  • An ace team of Arwing pilots for hire that fight against evil - there's only one such team in all of gaming - and they're Star Fox. If you play games or grew up in the 90's especially, the odds that you know the name of this band of heroes are very high.
And this holds today, even in spite of the limited output the franchise has had in recent years. What gives? There's no gameplay and character set like what's seen in Star Fox, so why don't we see more? Let's look.

I think a prequel showing what happened to James McCloud would be the most refreshing. Nintendo needs to step outside of its box and talk with fans because there's so much untapped potential yet say they're "out of idea" for Star Fox and F-Zero but have no trouble pumping out Mario games.

    • @jacindaellison3363
      @jacindaellison3363 2 года назад +1

Wait, they actually said they have no more ideas for Star Fox?! Also, yes, a prequel game focusing on James McCloud, Peppy Hare, and Pigma Dengar would be awesome. It could provide answers, like why James left the Cornerian Fleet to found his own mercenary team, how did his wife react to his leaving his fleet, what was his relationship with Fox, did he name it Star Fox after his kid, why would they trust someone like Pigma, ect. The game could also show how James had to go through a lot of trials to prove that mercenaries could be use for good. Maybe even have him tangle with Star Wolf a couple of times!

Nah, stepping outside the box has been the biggest problem with this franchise. Step 1: Return to the 2nd (or as I like to call it definitive) timeline that started with 64.
Step 2: Retcon Star Fox Command (if you haven't already) but hold on to the characters Dash, Lucy, and Amanda.
Step 3: Change Katt back to pink.
Step 4: Follow in the footsteps of Star Fox Assault because let's face it the series was in its prime then.
Step 5: Balance out the gameplay segments so the ground mission don't outweigh everything else.
Step 5: Make a story that isn't batcrap crazy (what command was in a nutshell).
Final Step: Release it for the Switch.

The problem with Star Fox is that it's a series that's stuck on its one hit wonder (64) for over 2 decades, has had 2 reboots and can't bring itself to commit to a maturing of sorts. The one game that was on the right path on evolving the franchise was Assault, with a new main enemy, new story atmosphere and emphasis on multiple ways to play (though admittedly should have had more Arwing missions). Honestly I feel Zero would have been amazing if Platinum was left with full creative control on the title and wasn't forced by Nintendo (specifically Miyamoto) to implement certain things like the atrocious controls. If Zero could get cleaned up for the Switch, or a sequel that dials the 64-nostalgia tripping back and just focuses on being an evolved SF experience, then it'll bounce back. I also hear Star Fox in StarLink was very well recieved... and honestly, they need to stop neglecting the few female characters the franchise does have since they all have cult fanbases (Krystal, Miyu, Fay and Katt)

You fly outside open world style exploring asteroid belts etc. When ready to progress to a planet the Great Fox warps to the chosen sector in the form of an on rails mission, and the story continues. You fly into the planet like Starlink and explore it open world style with the option of exiting the arwing. Just my thoughts.

That doesn't make those other games bad because they each have different pros & cons but they're all the same idea with the same story none of the less and the franchise could use a game that keeps the same star fox 64 style with a new story.

The problem is that Miyamoto isn’t willing to push the series forward since he wasn’t all that inventive with the game, it was Argonaut Studios that made the game from top to bottom! And that’s been true for the majority of the games with Rare’s Dinosaur Planet, Namco’s help and Creative Push in SF Assault! Argonaut staff again making The SF Command and 64 3D titles!
And Freaking “Platinum Games” Help on Starfox Zero! Miyamoto is basically the deadbeat Dad for the series, not willing to push the Franchise beyond the Lylat System cause he doesn’t believe the SF universe isn’t as Malleable as Mario or the Zelda series! The dude is too much into Gimmicks, if he wanted to spice the Series up, he should’ve contacted Insomniac Games or Naughty Dog and asked for their help since their Jak & Daxter, and Ratchet & Clank games have all the elements of fun and creative gameplay featuring furries in Space!
Hire someone not from Japan for once and start getting them and the fans to help develop ideas for the Starfox Brand!
Shit, if you want a Tactical game, the gameplay of Starfox 2 and Command and build a New Tactical RPG game that mirrors Fire Emblem or Advance Wars!
Make a Full-on remake of Starfox Adventure without shitty Controls and better Backtracking elements Like what FF7 Remake Did! Or even better make a Starfox game where you get to Mirco manage your Team, switch them out! And while your at it, you can have Team Star Wolf Playable, you can have Krystal, Faye, Miyu, and Kat be playable or have them be unlocked for endless replay value on Every New Game+ as you have characters chatting and giving unique dialogue every time you play each mission with a secret or 2 here and there!
Don’t fucking say there aren’t any plans or “you don’t know what to do” with these games, cause you Do Nintendo! You do if your willing to Make a Starfox game just to try and sell Your Awful, gimmicky motion controls!

If they were to work on another starfox game they should take the best from 64, adventures, assault, and starfox 2. Take everything that made those titles great and put it all into one game. Take away most of the rail shooting and make it to more of an ace combat style. Mix the exploration of adventures with the on foot combat of assault and make the controls more comfortable. Really make the next one as big as breath of the wild. Explore space like starlink and explore all the planets in lylat including sauria and maybe cernia. Bring back krystal and other characters(dont bring back panther fuck that guy) make the story as long as zelda bow. Add a online multiplayer/co-op. Make the story really good too that's very important. This would be ground breaking for starfox and really bring back the series to its former glory

I've always thought that Star Fox could and should be so much more than a rail shooter. Don't get me wrong, I love Star Fox 64, but it's essentially been released 4 times Star Fox (Super Nintendo) Star Fox 64 (N64) Star Fox 64 3D (3DS) & Star Fox Zero (WiiU). I loved Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox Assault because they were different. My biggest issues with each was the lack of classic Arwing piloting in Adventures and the ease and predictability in levels along with the very Japanese anime-like graphics in Assault. On the whole I think Nintendo should focus on adding elements of both those games to a new Star Fox title. They should also really develop the story with the characters. One thing I loved about Assault was the interesting twists and turns in the story. Maybe if they made a game where you were aboard the Great Fox as a sort of home base and accepted and undertook a lot of different missions from a campaign map table of sorts. Missions ranging from stealth, to assault, to piloting missions. Be able to play as different members of the group. They could even drop a DLC where you play as the Star Wolf team.

Also, maybe with Zero's entry, they can maybe start making games that focus on other characters, which also add different genres while also keeping what made the game great. I have maybe a couple of problems with Assault but, like I said earlier, they should go with that game style.

(Just my opinion which may differ from yours/others.)
SF on SNES - Played a lot as a kid and liked it. It's one of my favorite SNES games.
SF 64 - (Unpopular opinion) Didn't own an N64, but eventually played on Wii's virtual console. Did a playthrough, thought it was okay and moved on. Wasn't a fan of the landmasters portions either. (Before you say I should've played it on an N64, sorry bub, not spending MY money on an N64 and one game.)
SF: Adventures - Wasn't half bad. A little slow at first, but eventually I grew to like it.
SF: Assault - Fresh off playing Resident Evil 4, I played Assault at launch. It was okay. Arwing portion was fun. Everything else (on foot and landmaster) was frustrating to control at certain times.
SF: Command - (I'm going to get hate.) I enjoyed a lot. The controls worked surprisingly well. The multiple storylines felt mature (not in blood soaked GTA kinda way but rather a man becoming a dad and starting a family kinda way as an example) for a Nintendo game featuring anthropomorphic characters. Every character having their own individual look to their ship (and stats) was a nice touch and I felt gave them a tad more personality. I loved the fog of war strategy element of it and there were NO LANDMASTERS in the game. I like Command a lot.
SF 64 3D: Oh yay, I can play it on the go...landmaster controls, even with motion controls, still suck. Next!
SF 0: This is the only one I can say that I have not completed, but man the controls are horrid in a lot of areas from what I've played so far. Probably the only one I'll never complete.
SF: Guard - Didn't even take the game out the shrink wrap as I was disgusted with 0. Okay, so 2 SF games I may never complete.
SF2 - Taking into account that this was finished in '95 or '96, I'm not expecting state of the art graphics or anything. That said, I actually like it and thought I wouldn't. It introduced elements that influenced future SF games. I actually enjoyed the walker portions too. My only complaint is how crowded the screen feels in certain scenarios where if you decide to change your ship's view from cockpit to ship on screen, the ship takes up a lot of screen space. I don't recall that being an issue with me in SF on SNES. However, it's only in certain scenarios where this is the case. Also, how are the walker controls better here than in 0? Oh right, they used a regular control scheme.
Starlink - Honestly this should be the next step for the SF franchise. Controls work, the non linear planet as well as solar system exploration is a breath of fresh air, the ability to change weapons seems like a natural evolution (could easily reduce the amount of weapons to cycle through to just 2 or 3 per wing with instant swapping/cycling being mapped to L shoulder or Y for left wing and R shoulder or X for right wing), hover mode is way better than landmaster AND there's 2-player couch coop. I'd add on foot temple exploration as well as a vs mode (1 to 4 player vs if it's single system split screen with bots taking up empty spots, up to 6 Switch's in handheld mode for local vs, & up to 6 player online vs options) and you got yourself the foundation for the next SF game.
(Again, this is just my opinion which may differ from yours/others.)

To Nintendo... Go play Ace Combat 5. Now use your imagination to make a Star Fox game like that.
Gaming has come too far for young people or even myself to enjoy a rail scroller. So:
    1. Make the map bigger with actual objectives to accomplish.
    2. Return to adding hidden criteria to unlock tougher missions. This gives the game re-playability if the missions actually impact the story and/or allow you to unlock new characters.
    3. Rather than having 1 mission per planet make each planet have several mission to liberate or capture.
    4. Make the whole campaign a story that take 40+ gameplay hours across multiple planets to complete, like most games today would.
    5. Make a new Arwing that is customizable to resemble real planes, so that my playthrough and Arwing is different than my brothers. The Arwing is a classic... Retire it, this is risky but make it unlockable after beating the game.
    6. Because planets are big and the starfox team is also now more than 4 members (and a robot), make it to where you can assign teams and leaders to head the mission which you would play as.
    7. Give each character advantages and draw backs to piloting and leading teams.
    8. Most important in my opinion... Make it up to 4 person co-op. Where I fly along side my friends as another character in the mission.

I doubt its not coming back, series is probably on the backburner until they decide what they want to do with it, the games do have fans to draw profit from after all, if I were to take a wild guess we will see a new release upwards of 2-10 years from now

In the zero release for the switch, which is basically what I’m taking can be my own rumor or the motion controls will be turned on by default, but if players doesn’t like it, they will always deactivate the motion control gimmick
