How to fix some common issues Default overlay still showing: in Afterburner (not Rivatuner) go to the monitoring tab, for each of the options showing in the default overlay, turn off "Show in On-Screen Display". If FPS isn’t updating( I.e. stuck at “62 fps”): Create a new layer and manually type %Framerate% A second FPS counter is showing in the overlay: Make sure to turn off “Show own statistics” in Rivatuner If the “More” button is greyed out: Click the up arrow in your windows taskbar to see if RivaTuner has launched. If its not, then you may need to manually launch it in windows.
When I go to Afterburner and stop everything from showing in OSD then the overlay disappears and I need to have at least one thing in OSD for it to work
very thankful for ur video, sadly i have some questionmarks: when i uncheck the opions in afterburner "show in on-screen display" nothing will show ingame when i toggle on/off, because i have also the thing that the default overlay is showing besides the pill shaped one.
@@TheSeanMacGuireNvm, I just fixed it. U need to click the ticks besides the overlay.dll and the hotkeys.dll in riva tuner/setup/plug-ins. They were light grey like the unchecked ticks in msi afterburner. After that it worked for me without having opened the editing space of the overlay.
Open the background box layer, open the color picker to the right of the "use custom background color" checkbox. There is an opacity slider in that dialogue. For the circle image (or any image that you import) you will have to add the transparency in your photo editing app.
Good job! To simplify the process of creating similar overlay layouts with OverlayEditor I'll slightly modify hypertext tag format (solid filled ar rendering) to allow you to embed bars with rounded corners directly and much easier than before. So you won't need to implement such rounded background with embedding additional ball sprites.
Thank you so much for making this detailed video. I really love this video, it was very thoughtful of you to make a video that would make our OSD look way better. Keep up your amazing content.
Thanks, took a little work getting it up and running for me, I had some old version that was running the default once in the background while I was trying to configure it the way you described it, but I reinstalled everything and it worked.
Damnnn not me using Afterburner/RivaTuner for like 8 years and not knowing you could customise the overlay and use the classic orange/green text Couldn’t be me…. lol thanks
I should have checked the description first so I could download the overlay and use that instead of being a creative myself. Anyways, I liked this a lot. Thanks
Thanks a bunch. I had been trying to customize through afterburner... and well it was a pain. Never knew RTSS itself can handle it. Had to disable OSD settings for the afterburner values.
Wow, that's really cool, thanks a lot for making this tutorial, that's a lot of work! 😊 I think I will play around with the colors, and maybe keep the original and well known color scheme, to help me better recognize the CPU/GPU info 🟧🟩
Thanks for this its amazing, any chance on uploading a few more premade ones? maybe with added memory usage.. 2 Questions if you don't mind: 1- the onscreen display zoom, doesn't change the size at all, it doesn't do anything (for me anyway), any work around to make your overlay a little smaller? 2- I've tried highlighting your overlay in the editor and moving it around so i can center it, but it will only move up and down in my game no matter what i do, any advice?
Thanks man! Looks clean. Just so you are aware I tried using your template but you left the GPU name to GPU1 so it wasn't displaying correctly. It was an easy fix. I just renamed it to GPU2 and it displayed correctly.
my overlay editor is showing my old overlay that i created long ago using stuff from hwinfo as well, even if i click create new overaly the previous infos still remain there, how do i create a blank canvas like you showed in your video? i tried reinstalling rivatuner didn't seem to work, still showing old overlay
In the monitoring tab click on the options in graph i.e GPU Temp and on the right side it would be showing in OSD, Click on that particular item and uncheck Show in On-Screen Display from below for that particular option , I hope it solves your problem.
man I did it, thanks alot it was fun, thank you mate PS: your explaining & summarizing is at point, you're good man. Forgot this out of exitmenet: I can't center the final result in middle of the game, the most I set in riva tuner it doesn't center in-game how to fix that?
This is great. I was able to build it and also a separate one using your import. May I ask if there's a way to quickly select all of the elements on the overlay editor and make everything smaller at once? It's too big for my monitor lol
great video 👍👍 but i have a question instead of having CPU then the temps is it possible to have the name of the CPU or The name of the GPU ? was sent by ZTT
Thanks, it looks great! Just one question: at the moment, to use the overlay, I must keep the "overlay editor" open. Otherwise, nothing happens when I press the MSI "toggle on screen display" hotkey. Is there a way to toggle it without having the riva overlay editor opened? Thanks again!

plus: there is no overlay unless i open riva tuner and go to setup and open the overlay.dll
Same problem I’m having

Thank you to ZTT for pointing us all here! And Thank you for that very nice in depth tutorial. All I wanna do now is create a translucent background.
Open the background box layer, open the color picker to the right of the "use custom background color" checkbox. There is an opacity slider in that dialogue. For the circle image (or any image that you import) you will have to add the transparency in your photo editing app.
can you do that for me please 😭😭😭
Oooh actual aesthetics for gaming. Love it. Uploading it for ease of use is a great idea.
Thank you Devy! Really appreciate your work! ❤
I also came here from ZTT. Great Job Devyn and thank you so much for sharing this. It looks so clean, I love it 😍
If you can't get rid of the default graphs:
In Afterburner. Open Settings -> Monitoring -> Disable "Show in On-Screen Display" for all options.
still doesnt work for me tho. i dont know why. did it exactly like you said
Click apply
Thank you!
Legend, thanks
Thanks a lot
ZachsTechTurf just made a video on this, super useful as I always use Afterburner 👍

For those not seeing the imported layout try to full screen the Overlay Editor. I found mine on a little bit outside of the screen.

For adding time: add a layer and write in the hypertext "%Time24%" for 24 hour clock
Thank you so much!
Thanku! Cant it be 12h system btw? & How long am I running an application?
This cheered me up after a extremely hot and exhausting day! Thank you!

Ahh finally, an upload about that sweet custom overlay! Very helpful for someone like me who wants data and design to look great together!
I wanted to thank you for this straight to the point and informative video. You are the reason I made my first overlay. Thank you!
Exactly what I was hoping you’d do a video on. Thanks!
Awesome !!!
This makes that "clunky" looking MSI/Riva Tuner standard overlay look soooo much better.
THANK YOU for sharing and giving the tutorial.
You always give people what they want and I really respect that!
This looks great, I've been using afterburning/RTSS for ages and I never knew this existed, thanks a ton!

If you superscript text and don't see any changes change it to text example
Thank you very much!
tysm! btw is there any way to change the colour of only the superscript text?
If this only works on either GPU or CPU, format the script this way
%CPU1 temperature% °C
Jeeeez bro
you are faster than the program itself lol
had to watch this on 0.75 speed
