Brilliant video and explanation! I don't think anyone could explain this complicated topic any better than you have here. Not only have you explained the mysteries of how ISO works in the camera, but you have offered very useful suggestions in how to choose which settings to use and when to apply them. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this!

Your videos never cease to impress and educate. Love your content and the balance of theory and practical advice. I shoot a lot of street work but also events (indoors) and keeping shutter speeds high enough even with fast glass can be challenging without jacking up ISO. This video has given me some real value. Thanks Pal2tech

I primary use a very high ISO when doing long exposures to check if I am taking in the objects correctly in pitch black landscapes. After that revert back to lower iso once setup looks good and then wait my eyeballs out for it to finish processing 3 min exposures. 👍

Just keep doing this Chris. Another gem in the toolbox simple and direct with practical implications. Who needs all the theory? (I do, don't know why?) Who cares how is done tell me how I can use it. Most of us just need help to use our Fuji better as a creative tool. I would like to see a series on Fuji menu. You have them, but you are all over the place and they are great tool - strongly recommended. It would be very nicety go trough the menu item by item from top to bottom and explain in your fashion. Then, based on that go and fly. Kind of more systematic approach.
    Stay well and safe.

Exposure increase/decrease in LR the same as ISO change on my camera?!?! WHOA!!, another new 'trick' learned from you for this old dog, plus learning 2 amps are involved!-...Love ya Chris for teaching me this topic!! You're awesome! never paid much attention to the tech behind, just kinda learned what works best from shooting thousands of images. I always shoot at ISO 160 until I need faster shutter speeds, then bump the ISO up. I have never shot higher than ISO 3200!! Now I have new experiments to play with

Lol, I can imagine 😄. I've been trying to get a better understand of the DR200/400 settings in-camera, and how it affects RAW files, which seems to complicate ISO a little more 😩 From what I can understand, its best to protect highlights by using DR100, with a lower ISO, and lift shadows in post for a cleaner image. However, DR200/400 is a good option for sooc JPEGS.

Nicely done explanation. However, I figured out that trying to outthink the Fuji engineers does not usually improve my photography in a meaningful way. I have a tendency to choose my shutter speed and aperture based on my artistic intent. I will then set my ISO either manually or using one of the automatic settings to achieve the brightness I desire. Sometimes I may expose to protect the highlights other times I may let some of the highlights become blown out. If necessary the ISO invariance allows me to pull shadows up to get the desired look. I usually try to achieve the look I want in camera and I often will have the grain setting on weak and sometimes strong. Therefore noise in high ISO shots doesn't usually bother me. I do enjoy your videos so please keep up the good work.

I'm just so glad that you say ISO (eye-so). There was a time when all the know-it-alls would reprimand someone for not saying (eye ess oh).
