Hmm, it’s dumbfounding how many RUclips videos bias this subject as the husband is not doing enough or not doing things just right to keep their wife interested, attracted and engaged. Believe me, as a man married 35 years to the same lovely woman, wives have plenty of things they need to improve on too.

    • @TheMarriageFoundation

That's for sure. But you asked what you can do, not what she can do. I let wives know what they can do when they ask.

Yes, this is true. Both in the marriage need to work on themselves. I've been married for 41 years and we are going through problems. No marriage is perfect. The point is how we think. Is it healthy or unhealthy. Right now my husband is very angry. Angry about everthing to the point where he is drinking heavily everynight. That enhances his anger even more.
We've attempted to discuss this. I love him dearly. He says he's angry with me. I try to listen and understand. I apologize if I've genuinely offended him. I do have a stubborn streak. But this is not helping. So I try to understand his overall anger. What is causing it. Why isn't he happy?
We don't have a typical marriage. I wanted to be a stay at home wife, but financial circumstances wouldn't allow it. I now work 48-50 hours a week so we can make ends meet. He is retired on Social Security. I know the economy is bad and many people are struggling out there.
I've guessed part of it. He needs something meaningful to do. Every man does. I keep up my looks daily. I dress conservatively, but attractively. I cook when I can, and clean when I can, but now keeping up the house has fallen on him. And we have a small home. I get why he doesn't want to do it, but he expects me to do it now even after working 48 to 50 hours a week. This has gone on now for 3 months straight. I'm now walking on eggshells, because if I say anything now, it's taken out of context.
We are not intimate. We haven't been for 2 years. I miss that closeness. I fear we are drifting apart now. So I wonder now if he wants out of the marriage. Does he feel trapped? Or is he just going through a hard time? He won't discuss his feelings with me.
So the only thing I can do is be patient.

It's almost 7 years since we've been intimate. She doesn't even want to talk about it. I figured she doesn't love me and isn't interested in me anymore. But as soon as another woman says "hi" to me when we're out, she gets jealous. I don't understand it.

I've persevered for thirty plus years with my partner but I was the only one to do the research and the work needed. She just ignored the fact that we were growing apart.
I always felt like she was holding something back in our relationship.
I've just realised that she has "intimacy anorexia". Which is why she pulls back from throwing herself fully into the relationship.
Her behaviour meets every single criteria spot on for this issue.
Probably stems from the childhood trauma of her mother pushing her away.
Trouble is that it is an addictive behavioural habit which she has absolutely no intention of breaking.
In a nutshell, she's shutting off her ability to love and be loved.

Marriage is about "love" and "happiness".
Broad terms when communication, reciprocation, affection, honesty, trust, contribution, and honor in conduct to each other ARE NOT mentioned in the beginning!
You want love, you show it as you expect it, you want happiness? You pull your own weight and have your partner's/spouse's back in their time of need. It's called trust and respect!

You’re almost correct when you say there’s a lack of education regarding marriage in the western or more so in the American culture…. I would add more to that notion by saying that there is too much poisonous/wrong education in US regarding marriage. This negative “education” in US comes from the media, the tv series, tv shows, which provide plenty of bad examples where the idea of divorce, and happiness after divorce becomes the normality.
And then the couple counselors are telling you that you have to do more , perhaps, etc…

So far this video seems to be about fixing reparable relationships. Generally when man does not make wife feel loved enough to make effort to love back. If one is in a violently abusive relationship it is time to run. As brother you need to be prepared to accept him into your home until he can rebuild his single life. If STBex is violent enough, he needs to go to shelter specializing in abused spouses - and you need to be prepared in case she blames (and becomes violent toward) you.

Learning to love, unconditionally, is how to rise above the mind's inclinations, including bodily rebelion, which tend to control us. Most people love, but not deeply, from the heart, the soul. This is normal in a world that consumes us with "how are we doing" impositions, so we teach how to push the mind back and how to cultivate love from within. Then, as you learn these natural skills your love will be clear to her. At the same time we teach the rules of the marital road.... themarriagefoundation.org/ we want you to succeed!

I used to think humans were the most intelligent creatures in the world. But are we brilliant? This kind of video makes me think we must be taught about everything, including something that is supposed to be natural, like a relationship between a man and a woman. Think about it: in the days of our grandparents, the relationship rusted for a lifetime, but they didn't have this kind of teaching. Instead, they just approached relationships naturally and traditionally. How about animals? Who teaches them? There are monogamous birds and animals... Who teaches them how to live together for a lifetime? Either we are not as bright as we want to think, or something is very wrong with modern society.

If you have the money they want affection and all that stuff if you have affection they want money if you and that they want looks if you have the looks they want adventure they if you do have that they want dangerous if you have that they want the other.

Yeah, I get more enjoyment playing baseball, my guitar and bass, even painting the shed. We don't do anything together that is worthwhile anymore. And it's been like this for 20+ years. I don't bother asking her to do anything anymore, it's she's too tired, legs hurt, back hurts, tummy's upset, etc. We used to hike together---she won't keep up anymore---strangling behind and complaining. I can't walk that slow. It's no use, she and I share just about zero common interests. I have to pick up after her now, she won't even do that. I make the bed, feed that cats, clean their litter. Where did her energy go? Vaporized! Not fun, but it's for better or worse.
Yes, it could be worse, but it could be better if she made any effort. She hasn't and she's not going to. Still, I'll be as good as I possibly can because I'm responsible for my behavior.

I wrote my comment 1 year ago and today we’re divorced, I caught her having an affair and I have so many regrets, I should’ve talked to her earlier, maybe we would’ve split before all this happened. This was 2 months ago, now we split time with our daughter 50/50, I haven’t gotten over her completely, I think about her betrayal every day but I am so free now. I’ve gotten rid of the heavy, stressful part of my life and I get to keep my daughter the most enjoyable part. The other half the time I’m a bachelor. I'll check more of your videos out, but I am NOT in a healthy situation. I'm convinced my wife is a full-blown covert narcissist and I just don't believe your program is helpful for that. I think there's an assumption that the other person--at some level--is self reflective and examines themselves, but that's not what I'm working with at all. Right now I'm just doing what I can to survive another year (5 kids). With Christ all things are possible, but I have to think someone at least has to repent before God can work most effectively in their life. Good luck with that. Just a bad situation for 25 years. I just thank God it's not actually me after all this time--if it was, everything would be fine bc I'm more than willing and have changed tremendously over my life and will change still

If the wife has bpd none of this advice will work. She hates herself so nothing you say or do will change her attitude. Sorry pal its not always the man's fault. The only option is to move on. Churches teach the same thing. "If the husband loves his wife like Christ loves the church his wife will come around" In most cases this is true but their are contentious and abusive women where this won't work and the Bible speaks of them as well.
