What a GAME CHANGER!! I am so excited to try this out for myself... fmq has been a challenge for me and I just want to be able to do my own quilts with an all-over quilting pattern. Thank you very much for this tutorial. Blessings to y'all.
Good morning Laura Ann, What a bonnie pattern to decorate your lovely wee quilt with. I think i love the back just that teeny weeny bit more than the front and i love the front with it's lovely wreaths. This wee quilt would be beautiful with wee decorations like bells and bows at the top of the wreaths, but i know you don't want it to be directional. This would add that look of Christmas to someone in a home, but being easy enough to take down after the season was over. I wish i could longarm because i would make them for all the auld sowls near me, as we have a lot of old folks homes around and it's not possible for them all to be able to have a tree of any size in their rooms, but they could have this either above their beds or across from them to see. I have only made my first quilt and finished it at the start of the week, and although it is far, far from perfect, i am still so pleased that i tried. I am going to use the scraps left from my wee grandsons ' quilt to make a quilt and pillow for my friend's wee grandson and his dollys pram that he is getting for Christmas. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with us and sending crafty hugs across the water, from Norah, Glenochil Village, Central Scotland
I love this idea. I have a long arm, but I think this will still work. I sometimes think the pattern on the top, throws me off a bit. Thanks so much. You always have such great ideas.
what a great tutorial! I have a Christmasy quilt ready to go and have been wracking my brain for a continuous line stitch pattern. This one is perfect. AND will use it on future quilt as you go blocks. Judy in Virginia
Okay keep watching. Just donot want to be stuck with white or light backing, even though it has its own majic. Thinking about using a very large needle over my paper design. Then using chalk pad over pattern and if I do more than one row using hair spray to keep pattern from wearing off chalk. You have been so inspirational. It just that I like dark back grounds for teens. I have many. Your ideas and work blows me out of the water. Watch you all the time. I like and subscribe. You are so smart. Thanks.
Laura had not watched your channel in a little while…,I really enjoyed this! You went through the entire process and that is what I look for! Thank you for your creativity and skill!
Laura!! You saved my life!! I made a race quilt with these EXACT same fabrics and now I know how to quilt it!! BLESS YOU!! (PS this is my first quilt and it's for my parents. I'm so excited!!)
I love your videos. This one was very helpful. I hadn't seen anyone using the Crayola washable markers so those will be ordered tomorrow! I am 69 and just started quilting a couple years ago off & on. It's now on big time as I have been buying Accuquilt products because I have rheumatoid arthritis developing in my hands. I am looking forward to finding those patterns you drew on your quilt. Thank you for teaching this older lady some new tricks.
so beautiful. I would love to one day have a machine like that. I have a lovely 40 year old Kenmore 1802. I love her. However quilting is challenging. I am three years new to quilting and I love it as much as I love sewing clothes. I love your channel. I have your book. My bucket list is to sew ever one in the book.
I have used your process several times. It works like a charm. I do spray baste, which saves time. I also use the iron-off markers by Dritz. This allows me to get more quilts done, and that’s what it’s all about! Thanks for your great videos!
I have been quilting for what seems like 100 years now, but have never heard of using the Crayola Washable Markers. 😊 Thank you so much for showing how you mark your quilts. I quit using the Frixion markers because of a problem I experienced with them. You made quilting your own quilt look so doable so I’ll give it a go now. I learn so much from your videos and appreciate the time and effort you put into each one.
I like this idea for fmq. Quilting in the back with a solid fabric will help me concentrate on the quilting without watching the top piecing and trying to figure out where to go.
So, so glad you put this on here. This is exactly what I want to do! Love that pattern too, definitely gonna download that. Thank you so much, you are so helpful to so many of us out here, thanks again.
My jaw is dropping open in fabulous amazement. This is brilliant, because my FMS leaves a loooot to be desired. What a stunning technique and the result is beautiful, thank you for sharing!
The markers are great. I appreciated your detailed review of this product. I bought some and I tested on my fabric--and it worked well. Brilliant demonstration and this marker is fluid and great.
I just added Crayola markers to my grocery list and ordered a pattern book. This gives me hope for quilting my own quilt tops... about 30 of them stacked up.
I've given up all hope of quilting myself but have found several local ladies who have the time, machine and skill to quilt for me. I don't have to worry about ruining a beautiful quilt top and I'm supplementing the income of local woman and families.
This is genius! I love your tutorials since you really break down the steps into easy to manage segments! My free motion quilting skills are not where I'd like so this is a great way to try on my own. Thanks - you always inspire me!
You are a genius! I’m thinking abt how to adapt this to a long arm. If I remember correctly, you did this once before, using the backing fabric as the design for the quilting. I thought that was pretty cool too! 🌷⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌷
thank you for a wonderful tutorial. I have not had any confidence in quilting past straight lines. I have been unable to find the links to this wonderful pattern to try it
Drawing on the backing piece is a great idea; however, the title said quilting without a long arm and then you used a huge machine with a massive work opening. It would be nice to see how to do on a regular sewing machine. The fabric management is my biggest concern.
Hi, great video, Thank you. What about the stitches on the front, now the back? I find that it is often hard to get the right tension and the stitches are not as good on the back as they are on the front. And now the front is the back.
Absolutely gorgeous, will certainly try this.... Only one thing; my OCD would not let me get away with the mismatch on the white cross bottom right, seen very clearly from 1:00, I'd have to redo that before quilting.
I have only used a light colored background or back fabric once. Usually their medium colored. So how do you transfer in that case? The last one I tried myself I taped yellow paper or pinned it on top of the quilting design and traced that with the marker and then pinned the yellow paper onto my quilt and then stitched it and I had to do four long rows for a 48 inch wide quilt. As you might imagine it's a pain to remove the yellow paper.
Hi! what a Beautiful Quilt! I love it! The pattern is amazing and I am so thankful that you went over this in such detail. Awesome! I would like to know if you have any suggestion if the fabric is darker and you are unable to see through to trace over the pattern. Thank you.
I was wondering if you could use an old fashioned tracing wheel and tracing paper to transfer it to dark fabric. You would definitely need to test and wash before tracing all of it. You could place the design on top of the quilt using the tracing paper.
Laura what a wonderful way to quilt. I have seen your demonstration before and just need to find the courage to try it. Could you also tell me the name of the quilt in the wall behind you? Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You are fantastic. Sandra ...from Sydney, Australia
😊 I AM HAPPY TO SEE THIS IDEA OF QUILTING .NO WORRIES AFTER PATCHWORK ❤
THANK YOU 😊
I just love the crayola washable markers. I've used them for several years and never had a problem with them washing out. Thank you for this video!
Genius. What a fantastic idea for light colored back.
This is fabulous since I am terrible at free motion quilting. Have to give this a try. Thank you!
I agree I'm terrible 🤣 maybe this will help amazingly

I thought the same. Great can do this on my own machine but then saw you have a huge sewing area so couldn’t manage this. Such a shame.
Great idea how to quilt!! And I love the Christmas prints in your quilt!🎄🎅
Beautiful quilt, & I love the pattern you chose to quilt it! It looks awesome!! 🎄♥️💚♥️🎄
