Dear Laura I found that this was the easiest most straight forward quilting technique on YTUBE. Thanks for giving me confidence to activate my creativity.
Thanks again for your very clear and simple instructions on quilting the top, Laura! Panels are more difficult to work with than I thought they would be. I used your technique of wetting them and shaping, which also worked well.
First of all, how sweet of you to show everyone how to use their domestic machines to do quilting, considering you have a nice sitdown mid arm quilting machine. That shows you are more concerned for your main followers than yourself! Received your book today & it is perfect. I am very happy you put your wonderful tips to go along with the patterns. If anyone has not gotten this book yet, get it! It is like having Laura right in your sewing room with you! And no, I do not know Laura personally, I just have watched her for a few years and wish I did!
As a new quilter I thank you for making your tutorial SO understandable During Coronavirus house arrest I am loving watching and practicing my skills Thanks
So very happy to see this tutorial ! So impressive that you gently explained the stitches , feeding , and those big pins ! What a great idea 💡!!! Definitely going to try that - genius !! Oh you just made my day. 💕Thanks so much !
Laura is my "Go To" instructor on youtube. You are always so thorough, easy to follow and have great topics that answer my questions & inspire me to get busy quilting!! Thank you very much
Loved the way the stitching looked. Thank you so much for all your "tips"! This takes the anxiety away from doing the stitching myself. Your instructions are GREAT and thanks for not talking fast!
Hi thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I have always had a problem trying to quilt my projects on a domestic machine. Normally I sew in the ditch but I am never pleased with the finish this creates. I tried the method you suggested in this video and I can’t believe the difference. It is a very forgiving method for a beginner like me, but the finished article looks much more professional that I expected. I can now complete all my other quilt tops using this method. You are a fabulous teacher and very generous imparting your expertise. Kind regards Yvonne Scotland.
I always learn at least one new technique from every video you put out, Laura. I have those same clothespins but it would never have occurred to me to use them for quilting. Thanks once again!
SO happy to have come across this tutorial. A friend asked me to finish off a couple of quilts she made. I think this technique will offer the smartest way to put them together. Genius.
Absolutely brilliant! I watched this video yesterday, and today while I have been sewing face masks, my mind has kept coming back to it. I am amazed that in all the decades I have been sewing and quilting, I have never seen this serpentine stitch used for quilting. I always machine quilt quilts that I make for babies or children, and I can hardly wait to use this technique when I quilt the baby quilt that I am working on now. It features the mom's favorite Merimekko fabric with large blue flowers, and straight lines just didn't feel right for the quilting. Thank you, Laura!
I have always been scared to try quilting but with your video, I feel more confident to give it a go. I have 2 great-grandchildren due this year so I'll try to make them one each. Thank you so much for doing these videos to help others to make amazing presents for our family.
Hi Laura, I just love your videos! Always so detailed from start to finish that I’m not intimidated to try your projects myself. As a relatively new sewer, your tutorials are a godsend. Thanks! 😊
I love this! I don’t have a long arm machine so I have been sending my quilt tops out to the long arm quilter. It’s getting a bit expensive! This is a great alternative. Thanks so much!!!!
Hi Laura, Thanks so much for this detailed tutorial. I had a baby quilt that I was holding off on because I was not quite sure how I wanted to quilt it. I have always used the stitch in the ditch mostly for other baby and tee-shirt quilts. I used a flannel fabric and was not quite sure if it would lay nicely. I am happy to let you know that I am really pleased with the results. Thanks so much. Also, I just watched you open your new book, good luck to you!!
I have been wanting to make a quilt but have been put off at the thought of quilting it on my sewing machine. Not tried FMQ but this method looks doable thanks to your wonderful tutorial. Many thanks for sharing 🥰💕
Beautiful quilt panel! You just have to love those red trucks!! I love how you quilted it with that wave stitch! You made it look so quick & easy! Thanks, Laura!
Thank you so much Laura, I have learnt so much from your videos and I love the Q20 tutorials you do as you explain everything so beautifully. You are one very clever lady. x
Thank you, Laura! I love getting new ideas for finishing. BTW, I am SO enjoying my copy of “Sew Very Easy Quilt Favorites”. It’s beautifully organized and photogrphed, and the patterns are fabulous. Well done!
Hi Laura! These tips are wonderful! I really like your huge clips and the fusible batting. I just bought a Bernina 790 Plus and I can't wait to use that 1396 stitch! Thanks for sharing the video!
Very nice tutorial. I’m a big fan of walking foot quilting and have done about half a dozen quilts using a similar serpentine stitch. Thank you Laura! ❤️
I have used this stitch on more than one quilt. I love it and it's very forgiving. I think some people call it a Serpentine Stitch. Either way.. it works for a lot of different patterns. Thank you Laura! I love your videos.
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for! The perfect feminine touch to my grid quilting. I love all of your videos and have so many saved. I just subscribed to your channel and love your tutorials!
Hi Laura! Another GREAT lesson. Your teachings are clear and imparts confidence so all your viewers can be successful! Thank you so much! Hope your new sewing room is just what you want and need! 🤞
I'm going to use this idea on my second quilt. I also love the clamp idea to save my having to wrestle with the big quilts. Thank you for sharing this helpful idea, Laura!
Thank you for explaining that so clearly. A chalk pen like that is on my Christmas wish list! Too bad my machine hasn’t got that stitch. I guess it’s not a quilting machine.
Thank you soooooo much!!! I am new at machine quilting and I have looked high and low for an easy quilt stitch pattern for my first design on a panel quilt!
Love this curving stitch! I'll have to watch again to be sure I understand how to do it! Also the big clamor idea! Love your sliw, calm clear voice....keep up the good work!
Great tutorial! I have the Heirloom batting, the Clover Chaco marker, the Glide thread and a panel. Ready to quilt with you! Your panel came out beautifully!
Thanks Laura for this tutorial! You have a very calm voice that gives me courage to do this on a quilt. Would love to have your Bernina sewing machine too.
Thank you so much. I didn’t know my sewing machine had that “double C” stitch until you mentioned that most machines have it. I looked right away and there it was!
thanks for sharing your experience. I have several panels that I didn't know how to go about quilting them and this was perfect. All of your thoughts were very helpful for me a beginner.
This is beautiful and you a wonderful teacher. Your voice is soothing and you portray a very patient teaching style., which is why you are my go-to sewing friend.
That looks so easy, didn't see a pucker anywhere! And I love that fusable batting!!! I've been spray basting mine but I really love the idea of ironing a fusable! Looks more stable.
I absolutely love this method. I am new to sewing, I just do little quilts for my granddaughter and I only know how to tack them. I will be trying this on her next one. Thank you so much for the tutorial.
I've always just stitched in the ditch. Not that I've made many quilts, only around six or so over a few years. But I was planning to make a jellyroll quilt for myself, so I'll try this out. If it doesn't look right, well, it wasn't going to be a gift anyway. I consider myself new to quilting, but from what I've observed, there doesn't seem to be a wrong way to do it.
Thank you so much....I really didn't know how and what pattern to quilt my topper... This will be fantastic... Look forward to seeing more of you videos of inspiration... 😁😁
That quilting stitch is my go to for most of my quilts!❤️ tomorrow I’m quilting a hexagon quilt and I have no idea how to quilt it, because there are so many seams and angles!! Maybe an echo stitch?!
I am so happy I took the time to watch this video. You are a wonderful instructor! I love those clamps you used. Where might one purchase these??? I have several quilt tops that need quilting and will try this method. Thank you so very much, Laura
I love that effect and I appreciate your taking the time to teach us newbies, lol! I've only done 1 baby quilt so far, a rag top quilt with family photos on the top and a jungle themed print on the bottom.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It was very helpful. However, I do not have a Bernina, or any other machine that the needle moves on like that. I am however, excited about that fusible batting.
Ditto here. Stopped by to mention that I have been using painters tape. Leaves no residue and doesn't stick too tight to the fabric so it comes off rather easily. (Stays on well -- use it several times.)
I learned a lot in your video today, so, thank you Laura! I'm definitely going to find that stitch on my Juki and get it quilted. It's a 3" tumbler quilt and I think the curves would look great. I might go down to every 2 inches. What do you think would be a good width to use? You solved my neverending struggle of what design to use. This looks easy and fun! Oh and I'm getting the fusable Hobbs batting. If I like it, like I think I will, I'll get a whole roll of it when it's on sale. Thanks again! 💜
Dear Laura I found that this was the easiest most straight forward quilting technique on YTUBE. Thanks for giving me confidence to activate my creativity.
such a clear and simple tutorial. Its hard to come across quilting videos that actually show you how to quilt your quilt! Thanks so much!
Thanks again for your very clear and simple instructions on quilting the top, Laura! Panels are more difficult to work with than I thought they would be. I used your technique of wetting them and shaping, which also worked well.

Laura, I love your videos! You have the best ideas and make sewing so easy. thank you
SO happy to have come across this tutorial. A friend asked me to finish off a couple of quilts she made. I think this technique will offer the smartest way to put them together. Genius.
I did not ever notice this wavy stitch choice! Showing me the marking is so helpful as well as the iron on batting practice
I love all of your videos! Your calm demeanor and a can-do attitude are encouraging. You are a very well put together, pretty lady! Thank you!

I love that stitch....I have used it on 4-5 quilts to have them out of the UFO pile....
Hugs for Everyone 🤗🤗🤗💞💖🌹🌷🌺💐🌸🌼🌻

Update - I bought a long arm over the weekend! It’s a “sit down” model. Can’t wait to use it!!!!!😃

Great tips, as always, Laura. Love the large clips, I am definitely buying those. I would not have thought about using the wavy lines, thank you!
I have been wanting to make a quilt but have been put off at the thought of quilting it on my sewing machine. Not tried FMQ but this method looks doable thanks to your wonderful tutorial. Many thanks for sharing 🥰💕
Great tips for marking grid lines so much better than starting in the middle, I always pick up a tip or two from your tutorials.

I have been using that serpentine stitch for all my projects lately and you are right, no matter if you veer off a bit, it doesnt show at all.
Love this thank you! So very clear, so simple. I don’t have stitches like that but I think I can do this. Thank you!

@Amy White Look at the stitch diagrams on your machine.

thanks for sharing your experience. I have several panels that I didn't know how to go about quilting them and this was perfect. All of your thoughts were very helpful for me a beginner.
Well this was great advice! I tried it on a pet blanket and it looks flawless.
This is beautiful and you a wonderful teacher. Your voice is soothing and you portray a very patient teaching style., which is why you are my go-to sewing friend.

I just did this method you demonstrated. Whoop! My receiving blanket/quilt looks great! Thank you!
That turned out lovely and red for quilting was the right choice. Thankyou for sharing.
Thank you so much....I really didn't know how and what pattern to quilt my topper... This will be fantastic...

This has been my go-to stitch for years! Easy and pretty!
Me too, it's great for baby quilts. If you have a guide bar, you don't even need the chalk lines.
This is awesome - thank you so much - as a quilter who struggles this is a very good way for me to do some home quilting.
Your videos are always easy to follow and very interesting. I'm always inspired to sew! Thank you :)
I do baby quilts for our church. This stitch will be great for quilting them. Thanks!

As always, a very clear and complete tutorial. Really useful, thank you.

I am making baby quilts for a pro-life organization in Israel. This method will be fantastic! Thanks so much.
I hope I can do this on my machine…what an awesome, yet easy and quick way to quilt.
Great tips. I love the Clover chalk marker! Just ordered two❤️
This is brilliant! Thank you so much can you do a simple way to do this with a king size example?
I love cutting and piecing, have for the most part stayed away from quilting my own. I will definitely be trying this! Thanks Laura!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It was very helpful. However, I do not have a Bernina, or any other machine that the needle moves on like that. I am however, excited about that fusible batting.
You give the best instructions with great visuals! Thanks
I love how well you thoroughly explain each step. Thank you.
Thanks so much Laura, another winner I can’t wait to try......✂️✂️
Thank you. I always use this stitch. On my Babylock it's called serpentine, love it. Will get the choco marker, like it.
P.S I see that your new book is now advertised on the Missouri Star Quilt Co website. How great is that!!
Great tutorial, as always! I’ve got to find those clamps.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful method for quilting. I may have to upgrade my machine so I can do such a fun stitch.
Your videos are so inspiring. I so enjoy watching them.
Love it! I am totally going to do this quilt technique on the baby quilt I’m working on now. I’ve never heard of fusible batting, good to know!
Wow all in an afternoon that’s my way of getting things done, thanks Laura
Genius!! I just discovered your videos and subscribed Laura! So many Great ideas!!! Thank you!
I just love this so much, this could be great Christmas gift to prepare ahead and it's very cute and simple. Thank you so much for sharing 💕
Please let us know where you got your big clothespins. I LOVE how you teach us! Thank you!
Thank. You. Laura. This was an excellent lesson. ( as usual ). I really got a lot out of it. 🧵🧵✂️✂️. Lou from Cape Cod,Mass.
I have to get that charcoal marker! I always “eye balled” it and used masking tape. Your mom ay looks sooo much easier! Thank you very much 😊
Ditto here. Stopped by to mention that I have been using painters tape. Leaves no residue and doesn't stick too tight to the fabric so it comes off rather easily. (Stays on well -- use it several times.)
Thank you very much for this super helpful video. I like the simplicity of it and the gorgeous result!
This was such a great idea. Did it with my last quilt and was perfect.
I learned a lot in your video today, so, thank you Laura! I'm definitely going to find that stitch on my Juki and get it quilted. It's a 3" tumbler quilt and I think the curves would look great.
