I used to live in Japan and have used quite a lot of their sunscreens. I find Japanese sunscreens to be really good, my favourites are the Biore Aqua Essence and the Shiseido Anessa sun milk :)
I love Biore Aqua (another Japanese sunscreen)! The first time I used it I was taking my kids to float the river. They applied physical sunscreen at least 3 times and all ended up slightly burnt or burnt. I applied Biore Aqua once and didn't even get tanned. I recommended to my oldest because she has such fair skin and she loves it too.
The skin aqua I find is also melanin skin friendly (for reference I'm a 330 during summer in MAYBELLINE fit me ND 332 otherwise, NC 44-45 in mac) there's no cast for this sunscreen. Awesome video!!
Yes, would totally love a similar video on Korean sunscreens. Also, another topic suggestion - would love a review on fungal acne safe sunscreens that are also sensitive skin friendly. It's a real gap in online content and it would be so helpful if you could cover it!!
I’m obsessed with skin aqua! I have dry dehydrated skin and the alcohol does not bother me at all. I have super sensitive eyes too and it doesn’t bother them. I will cry if they ever stop making it!
Omg me too. I never used a sunscreen so religiously like I use skin aqua. I'm the worse when it comes to discipline and consistency but I love this sunscreen so much I use it everyday.
I want to try that aqua skin sunscreen. HOWEVER, I wish it didn't have hyaluronic acid in it. I have looked high and low for a Korean and Japanese sunscreen without HA. There isn't any unless you go with a physical sunscreen and I hate those. 🤣
I have oily skin and I LOVE the Verdio GeL. It is hands down the best sunscreen I’ve ever used and I’ve tried so many. It looks good without makeup or under makeup. I have really acne prone, sensitive skin and rosacea and this sunscreen causes no irritation, stinging under my eyes, or breakouts. I might try the gold pump one that you recommend for oily skin just to see how it works, too!
This is really helpful! I'm trying to find a sunscreen for someone who has sensitive, acne-prone skin and I think the Verdio one is the one I'll go for!
@@cruzecruz5246 I buy all my Japanese sunscreens on YesStyle. If the Verdio Gel is currently sold out, I’d also highly recommend the Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel Abbey talked about . Love Asian sunscreens! I'm placing a Yesstyle (also love their site) order for the Nivea Japan super water gel 50 and the skin aqua UV. Ages ago I found Missha at Target and that is what turned me on to Asian sunscreens. I had no idea sunscreen didn't have to sting my face! Missha Sun Gel is still a favorite of mine. Thank you for your content!
I live in Japan so I always get excited when videos are released on Japanese products cause I can get them super easily vs other products that I'd have to buy online 😭
Just ordered my very first Japanese sunscreen, thanks to you! I got the Skin Aqua Super Moisture Gel, as even though I don't have oily skin, I can't stand glow of any kind in skincare. Also love the pump on the top! Ordered the Purito BB cream while I was on there! Great review as usual
@@nursyazwanie5688 I really like the Skin Aqua moisture milk (white bottle gold lid) for body sunscreen. I live in a hot, humid climate and it's perfect. The Canmake Mermaid Gel is great for the face and re-applications. I have oily skin and these work for me.
I’m on my 4th or 5th tube of Canmake’s Mermaid UV Gel. I definitely want to try the first Verdio one you talked about, as well as the first Skin Aqua one.
Awesome reviews and info. Can you demo and show us how you do reapplication during the day when you are wearing makeup? I often sit outside after work and have drinks and dinner but dont want to mess up my makeup.
I gave both of the Veridos to my adult kids last summer and they loved them. Anyone else see the independent UV testing of Japanese sunscreens? Appears a couple of the Skin Aqua formulas came back far below the stated SPF & with lower PA ratings 🤭
Interesting. Any link? I know some Japanese AND some Western brands have failed too after tests last year such as Estée Lauder, iPSA, Anessa, Shiseido, Curél, Sofina, Laneige, Dermacept, Bio-Essence. Lab Muffin mentioned it last year.
Hi, Abbey! You should try the OMI Verdio Tone Up Essence. It's alcohol, essential-oil, & fragrance free. It's also water resistant and has iron oxides. it doesn't have a white cast-y tone up.
I use skin aqua sunplay baby milk because it’s mineral and fragrance free. The formula is amazing! Edit-the downside is only 34 spf and pa +++-but my sensitive skin requires mineral and no fragrance. Thanks!
I love Skin Aqua pump too! Did you ever try Hada Labo UV White Gel SPF 50? It’s amazing & one of my Japanese faves. The only thing I don’t like is that it’s in a jar vs. a pump.
Don't automatically poo-poo American sunscreens. I found the Neutrogena Invisible Daily Defense Lotion SPF 60+ in the peachy-pink tube and have been loving it. It is oil-free but feels beautiful on application. My makeup applies perfectly on top and I've really been liking this one. I'm intrigued by the Skin Aqua with the pump and may try that one next but the Neutrogena is handy b/c it's in my local drugstore. I don't think you'll be disappointed!
One of the Korean sunscreen that is very popular in Korea but for some reason, I never see youTubers review it is called ‘Dr G’. I believe they passed the 3rd party testing, at least one of their sunscreen so it’s a good sign. It is very reasonably priced (available on yesStyle and Amazon), and the texture is very nice. My husband and I (in my 50s) and my college kids like it. If you ever try it, do lemme know what you think.
Great review Abbey...I know AND use all these sunscreens!!!. Big fan of Japanese sunscreens...certainly after all the Korean scandals!!....CANMAKE is still one of the best , in my opinion, for many skin types and tones!!!!... it's alcohol free, which is very difficult to find in Japanese sunscreens ...great for the winter months or if you live in a dry climate 🙂!!!
Hi Abbey, I really enjoy your channel and appreciate the effort you put into creating useful content. My favorite sunscreen is Hada Labo UV White Gel. My dry, sensitive 60 yo old skin loves it as does my 24 yo daughters combination skin.
JP SPF are the most beautiful!!! Athelizm Milk and Anessa Milk are my favs. Only trick is that they don’t write down its expiration date and formulas can change every year (that’s why sometimes packaging differs slightly).
Thank you so much! I love Asian skincare. I'm a guy with oily acne prone skin and I'm really wanting to try the Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel. I've been looking for an spf that's pretty much invisible, without cast or shine. Thanks again!
Honestly, I don’t mind if a sunscreen is a bit dewy, just as long as it’s not a sticky greasy mess. If I don’t feel like looking dewy I’ll just put on a mattifying primer, even if I’m going makeup free to absorb some of the shine. Translucent powder works well too.
I've been using the Hada Labo UV white gel (it comes in a blue jar) and I love it! I have the blue Skin Aqua sunscreen that I'm going to put in s compact to carry with me for reapplication. I've also used the Skin Aqua one with the gold pump and have sent one to my son in Canada! I haven't tried the Verdio or Canmake yet but I'm sure I'd love them too. Asian sunscreens are the BEST!

I will pick some of these up if I find them, because your spf recommendations are the best! I love those Skin Aqua products that I bought after I saw your analytical video about them. In my opinion, the ones in the tiny bottles might be better even for oily skin because I find that when I use the big one with the pump, the one with alcohol, after a few hours my skin looks oilier than when I'm using the one in the small bottle (I'm sorry I forget the names...), even though at first it disappears into the skin like you said.

I heard some K beauty sunscreens got called out for not having the apf in it that was claimed on the bottle. No wonder I always love K beauty sunscreens! I don't think they have FDA type hoops to jump through like the US. I will be passing on Asian sunscreens from here forward. I have melasma, and can't afford to mess around...
I tried the skin aqua white bottle spf and ended up getting a Melasma spot under my eye so now I'm very suspicious of the spf value 😪 I've gone through many tubes of the etude house mild airy spf 50 have you tried it? 🙂
With any sun protection, is there any certainty that it will also be protected? I use dmrtlgy, but I read that US products are not so secure. After Purito, the Asian products no longer either. Why aren't the products checked properly? I'm totally insecure now
These are Abbey’s favorites, not general recommendations. I think for her, living in the US, the benefits of using Japanese sunscreens are the cosmetically elegant finish and superior UVA protection afforded by the chemical filters in them not available in the US. Off the top of my head, Anessa (Mild Milk), Rohto Mentholetum’s Sunplay, Curel and Biore UV kids are either mineral-only ones or have such options.
hey abbey. there’s been a rumor around that the australian gold tinted spf 50 is not actually an spf 50 because it’s active ingredients are only at 4% each. what do you thing of this?
Dr. Dray has talked about this, basically that you can’t calculate SPF based on percentage of actives. There are a lot of factors that come into play, including the synergistic effect of the inactive ingredients. Australia has some of the most stringent SPF testing in the world as well.
@@InimeKai I suppose I shouldn’t have assumed! The US also has strict testing requirements though, even though they don’t allow a lot of the more modern filters.
I think that should not be taken too seriously because in vitro and in vivo test give different results. I'm totally insecure now
horrible ingredients o.O
So sad there were no mineral only options for us sensitive skin gals. ☹️
Dr Dray has talked about this. She said there aren't many Asian sunscreens that are mineral only 😕
These are Abbey’s favorites, not general recommendations.
@@heidilongman8128 its an american sunscreen
@@InimeKai I suppose I shouldn’t have assumed! The US also has strict testing requirements though, even though they don’t allow a lot of the more modern filters.
@@heidilongman8128 thanks!
Do you moisturiser underneath these spfs? I am currently using kose suncut. Not sure if i like it. I tried verdio and i loved it. X
Are safe to use? (because of the Purito,Klairs... situation)
i loveeee the skin aqua gel! however, i heard from multiple sources that it was tested to be spf 16 instead of 50+.
Janae... what who when 😮!!! Please let’s hope this is fake news... I love all the Skin Aqua sunscreens... I like everything about them. Oh 😥 Dios!!
I think that should not be taken too seriously because in vitro and in vivo test give different results.
Some people did reach out to Rohto (the mother company of Skin Aqua), and they responded in the comment section of this post: instagram.com/p/COeIKy1D79-/?igshid=x8okm726bfev

Is the skin aqua super moisture milk more moisturizing then the canmake sunscreen ? I love the super moisture milk for the winter but I’m looking for a summer sunscreen for my dry skin!
Me watching this video and looking at my sunscreen collection: Verdio, Skin Aqua and Canmake 😂😂
I like Biore. Anessa is supposed to be good but it’s expensive.
Hi, does anyone know how much ppd the verdio spf 50+ gel has? I really want to buy it but I don't know whether or not it will give me enough uva protection. Thanks for answer.
For the “canmake it” sunscreen are 2 options - clear and white. Is there any different besides cast? I have dry skin which one of these 2 do you recommend?
I would recommend the no white cast as the white can make people with slightly warmer skin tones to look ashy.
hey ! so i have very very damaged hair (i’ve dyed + bleached it multiple times) when i brush it i think i loose so much hair that i could make a wig , i also have lots of random small strands in my hair (literally looks like i’ve just grabbed a chunk of my hair and cut 3/4 of it) but really it’s just the damage from bleach. My hair isint dry or anything just fluffy , I really don’t want to shave my hair and i want to dye it again soon , which olaplex products would you suggest?
Is the verdio waterproof or water resistant? If so, for how long? Also how long is the aquas waterproof for too?
Which more do you prefer between Verdio Essence/Gel and Canmake? I can’t decide 😭
Surprised u didn't include biore essence
