After being plucked from the audience I had the frightening pleasure of being on stage with the Legend Freddie Starr in Oxford with his support act magician Rob Bromley. A memory I will keep forever. RIP the one and only Freddie Starr
During the Savile hysteria, he was accused of sexual assault, which he strenuously denighed, it was declared unproven, but the legal fight cost him highly, and he died pennyless.@@nathelondon3719
@@alanashore9570 He was a troubled man too. His alcoholic Dad's abuse, plus the fact that he was half jewish on his mother's side may have taken a toll on him too. Anti-semitism was and is still rife. Plus it wasn't all that long prior to 1988 that WW2 had happened, which, had the germans won?? well lets not go there. Its hard to say, but these things can really affect people negatively.
I loved his mainstream TV performances. He was superb with audience members and his guests. The Vincent routine was genius, the "speed up/slow down" thing he did, all the brilliant impressions, Adolf in wellies, singing with the Jordinaires, etc. Wonderful, every moment. In fact, the only Freddie stuff I don't love is the near-the-knuckle sweary, sexual stuff he did for later stage shows. But fortunately, there's plenty of the former to represent his sheer talent and originality. Still miss him. :-)
The best -- RIP - Freddie -- very sadly missed. We'll never see or experience the likes again. We were so lucky to have you and you made so many of us laugh so much.
The greatest at what ever he did, make you cry laughing or with his singing, the word legend was meant for this man, no other person has the talent he had. OMG what a singer too
Thank you Freddie, you made me laugh so much but I cried when I met you in Mijas towards the end of your life and saw the decline you had suffered. RIP one of the greatest ever singer/comedians
For many years I had the pleasure of being his Tailor! An amazingly talented act! though troubled in later years! But possibly the best comedy act we ever witnessed!
used to love watching freddie on tv as a kid, he was always on, loved his comedy, loved his singing, actually forgot how good he was! infact tonight ive just orderd two of his cds to play in the van and to feed my nostalgic needs. miss propper entertainers like this, such a character, certainally dont make em like freddie any more!
Freddie's telly appearances were a joyful part of my childhood. Some time during the late 70s early 80s I had the special privilege of seeing him perform his show at the Chatham town hall in Kent. A memory I still treasure. He wore those long shorts and walked like hitler then walked till he actually fell off the stage! Incredible entertainer 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you Freddie.
The Jordanaires, Elvis's backing singers, said that Freddie was the best Elvis impressionist they ever worked with. They loved to work with him. Read his autobiography, it's very interesting!
I remember watching this at the time. I was 28 then, bloody long time ago now! The whole family were gathered round the telly. A giant 28“ screen lol My mum and dad used to go on holidays wherever he did his summer show every year. I got very nostalgic watching this. Dad passed young back in 95. Good to remember the good times. Thank you for uploading the video.
There’s a fine line between genius and insanity. Freddie walked that line. He was a star in every sense of the word. They wouldn’t accept him now. Thank God he was able to entertain us back then. Thank you, Freddie. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
I saw him live three times and several times on tv. He always did exactly the same act, he was still doing Top of the Pops with Adam Faith and Mick Jagger in the 90s. He was funny in his time but this was all he ever really did.

Sort of act you still see every Saturday night in a caravan or holiday camp club house. I thought he was quite funny at the time, but you knew what he was going to do. Not saying it was not funny. I remember Eric Morecambe saying that he and Ernie Wise did the same act for 25 years live but employed great writers for TV; Freddie Starr just did his club act.
@johnpearce3033 It's just the popular sketches you are seeing. He was one seriously funny dude who was capable of pulling any shit at any time in mid routine.
A great all round entertainer who is sadly missed. There is nobody who could do what Freddie did
Freddie’s - Vincent routine is totally brilliant
That routine made me laugh so much
There will be nobody else like Freddie Starr.😊

Grew up watching Freddie Starr and to see what they made him become, at the end of his years, was nothing but criminal.
What crime did he commit?
No dote he was realy realy grate entertainer

Saw Freddie at Blazzers in Windsor , my jaw was aching for days afterwards from laughing so much , sadly missed ❤
Genius! God knows what he would be doing today, because he wouldn’t be allowed on stage! Back in the day when comedy was acceptable!
Brilliant !
He was incredible talented
Freddie was unique, he had no equals, never will have.
Greatest comedian ever grew up on this man and the best music ever heard the greatest days of my life Rip Freddie God bless you
Not sure if you can still use the word “normal” but that’s what l call normal comedy - bloody great ! 😂😂🇬🇧
I can't think of anyone who ever replicated " The Vincent routine " anywhere near to the standard of the late Freddie Starr.
Dion, Vincent, holy. Just a few of this man's quite fantastic 😀

Totally. Amazing to watch him - I think I appreciate him even more now. Just outstandingly talented and original.

It was easyer to go after him than Saville... Sad poor guy
I think he might of had a cold as well legend 😮😊

Who is they?
The corrupt police killed Freddie with the stress of false changes
Classic. Men from the 70s are now witch hunted for the mores of the time. Too PC now.
Shaky s backing band
Jimmy tarbuck probably the most unfunist comedians in England
And you're about as funny as your spelling.

I never found him funny, old fashioned humour even at the time!
He was dated even in 1988

I have watched a few vids of him on youtube and he does exactly the same act every time.
