Don't apologize, I think a lot of us can relate to just want to rant and vent about our favorite characters and stories once in a while. I certainly feel the same since I recently saw some comment compare Solas to Thanos, despite them being very different IMO.
Besides, for an unscripted video, I think this was still well thought out and it's not like you forced us to listen to it.

I like the fact that the demons that pour through reflect Solas' feelings during the ritual: *Pride* (That's literally what Solas means and is), *Anger/Rage* (The anger/rage of what he's done to the elves & state he left Thedas in after he created the veil), *Hunger &/or Sorrow* (His hunger to fix the world of the elves & sorrow for the atrocity he must commit)... Side note for Kala & everyone; I've uploaded the music from Veilguard if you want to listen or use it for your content 🥚🐺❤

I really, really want there to be a way to get a happy ending for Solas, but I also kinda want that ending to be really hard and specific to get. Something like Leliena's storyline in Inquisition, something, where a bunch of very specific details have to carry over, that you as the player are not aware are carrying over in that way, and it will be almost impossible to get the happier, ''bettter'', more preferable outcome on your first playthrough.
I want the possibility of a happy ending between him and my darling Lavellan to exist, and for that to be my ''cannon ending'' to strive for, since my Lavellan was a character that I got really invested in writing and got very attached to and still love very much. I want to their story to conclude, but for it to be a bumpy ride.
Like with everything else in this series, there will be multiple possible endings. For the Solas/Lavellan romance route, I would like for there to be at least three possible endings: the happy one that is super hard to get, one where they both die together, and one where he dies, but she is holding him and conforting him while it happens, thus making it so he is not alone when the end comes, safe-guarding him for his worse fear.
I really want to know what the storytelling reason is for Lavellan to not have been there at this moment, my mind was racing, thinking ''Why on Earth isn't Lavellan the one having this conversation and trying to appeal to him and call him to reason?''
And yes, I know its because most Inquisitors didn't romance Solas, but when your worldstate is one where these two have this much history together, and how dedicated such a Lavellan would be to try anything to save him from himself, and then the Inquisitor is nowhere to be seen in any of the published material, it really starts to become glaring, like ''What is she doing right now? Why isn't she here?''. It makes perfect sense for any Inquisitor to have gone underground and be doing their own massively important thing, but I'd like to get to know what that is/has been for nine years.

I would be so disappointed IF we won't get the chance to die alongside Solas especially for us Solavellans/Solasmancers.
I don't want my favourite character to die... I never felt so touched by a game character, never cried so much.
The thing that hit me the hardest in DAI was knowing that he's unhappy, that he broke up with my Lavellan, not allowing himself the tinest amount of happiness..
the way he kissed our Lavellan with so much passion as if he longed for that feeling to be loved.
    The way he grabbed her..

I always thought that Thedas is stuck in a time-loop that starts with the creation of The Veil and ends with its destruction, being Fen'Harel responsible for both. He is the unwilling Maker of the human world after all... but it was Flemeth who solidified this theory in my mind, talking and behaving from the very beginning like she already lived the events we were about to experience in the games. Quotes like "I nudge history, when it's required" or "There is a smart lad. Sadly irrelevant to the larger scheme of things. (to Ser Jory, who gets killed by Duncan shortly after)" come to mind. Last but not least, I don't think the introduction of time-magic in Inquisition was something random, but a hint of things to come.

    • @Ashbrash1998
      @Ashbrash1998 20 дней назад +2

If you think about it, a form of time magic could be why Solas says he did consider other options besides creating the veil. It's why he seems so sure about what he does, maybe he uses a magic that foresees possible futures. But it's limited in its use, like it can't account long term or unexpected changes.

  • @Timjer92

Solas' arc of him trying to fix his mistakes, only to make things worse, might come to a full conclusion in Veilguard. While I don't think Solas will survive the events of Veilguard, I also don't think it'll be either Rook or the Inquisitor who will be responsible. Perhaps Solas' arc will come full circle and he'll finally fix all of his mistakes, but at the cost of his own life. At least, that's what I hope for him, as I don't want him to be killed by either my character or a person he considers a dear friend at worst. But I do hope that, when Solas dies, he won't be alone as he always feared. He will, at the very least, have the Inquisitor besides him.

The only thing I can think of as a reason why the ritual was messed up by scaffolding was because it was rushed. I heard on twitter that the inquisitor and co have been trying to track him down over the years. And maybe the spell needed to take down the veil sensitive to time and barrier strength. So the area he is doing the ritual could be where he made the veil last time, or the place where it's best to do it at elven ruins. So he didn't make the statues he recovered them to draw/focus magic. Then sent all of his followers to go away asap because the area he does the spell is where the ripple effects are at its worst so they took shelter. He can't take his time preparing the ritual as much as he would like because he wants to get this done without outside or inquizzie interventioon

Solas needs to see that the world he knew is gone and cannot be revived. The trapped Gods killed it with their greed and lust for power and with all the time that has passed, the people and their ways are lost too. At most, he can teach them what they came from, but they can never be what they never were.
I feel like he's trying to save it because he could probably see how good it could be without the Evanuris corrupting it. He needs to let go... and just come home with me.
Bioware needs to do an ANIMATED series about the world/time he lived in. I would love to see it explored and how he became the person he is from the cocky guy he said he was.

I get what you are saying but have no evidence that the veil is necessarily a good thing for Thedas. It could very well be linked to the blight etc... Bioware never give us enough info to see the truth. That said, if he comes home with you he will still outlive Lavellan (who he could make immortal if he tears down the veil) and die alone anyway. If he stays he is reponsible for the death of the woman he loves despite the fact that she would never want that.

Solas is a villain that I think can be saved, to have redemption to slowly fix everything that went wrong. I may say that because he ended up being my last romance in Inquisition and I came to like him much more than all the other characters. Not every story should end in tragedy, there should be closure for Lavellan and Solas, I hope they have at least a happy ending among all the bad ones.
We can fix him and we can save him; his desperation for having a better choice (a good one) is a good start to do things right. He doesn't have to haunt alone anymore because the friends he made on the Inquisition are willing to give him a second chance too, especially Lavellan who is his vhenan.

The most revealing thing that no one is talking about is your character's name, Rook. Rook originally symbolized a chariot. The Persian word
Rokh means chariot. In chess, the rook is the "Torre" (Tower). Remember the Rook is a unique piece that can move forward, backwards, or sideways. Also, it is a form of a knight and a type of crow as well. Crows being of the nature of being one of duplicity. I think this tell you a lot about the intent of the story for this character. Flexible, possibly of changing directions quickly. They are also referred to as guardians in certain cultures. I hope there is more discussion around the naming of the character. I think there is more weight on the movement of this game then revealed at this time.

I think the group only managed to get closer to Solas in this prologue to make the plot of the game itself viable. Given the importance of Solas' mission and the character's own inherent power, he could limit or prevent the "conventional" approach of any hostile, interventionist or nuisance force. That is, under normal circumstances, this should require something other than killing demons to get to the naughty elf.
On the other hand, I hope the player has the evil opportunity to side with Solas' original plan (perhaps with the promise of gaining something from it) and sabotage reality's own chances of survival. I want access to a truly tragic and evil ending involving the protagonist's own intentions.

This whole story beat felt very off - and yes the scaffolding is a part of that - I'm trying to give it the benefit of the doubt because it's heavily edited supposedly. It really felt like it should have been the Inquisitor, not Varric, who was talking to Solas at that point. All the dialogue felt "hey, let's summarize so you can remember what happened 10 years ago!" and that gave it a very rushed and odd feeling. Also, there's so much we don't know about Solas's story that I don't feel comfortable saying he's always losing. There are times when all one has is a bunch of crappy choices. Anyway, we'll see what's what soon enough I suppose.

What if he felt rushed because there was a chance the Evanuris were going to escape regardless. Better to do it in a controlled setting and make the first move?
Or at least that he believes they will escape regardless if he tears down the veil or not...
But I don't see people talking enough about Flemeth and her possible influence in this.
I actually think he's just a pawn her larger game, and she is banking on him doing exactly this so she can have her revenge.

What if the only reason tevinter and the arlathan forest have difficult demons is because thats where the veil has the weakest points due to the blood magic weakening the veil and especially when the 8 magisters broke into the golden city? He said he took the necessary actions to lessen the damage. Possibly leaving tevinter to be destroyed because there's too little of the veil to hold back

For all the names others have given him, he chose 'Solas' for himself. As a spirit of Wisdom, brought into a physical body by Mythal, Solas or Pride is the oposite of what he is supposed to be. He wears it as a mantle of shame, as you see the Pride demon wolf/dragon hybrid form looming over him in his murals. It is always him as he wants to be seen and the Pride demon he fears he has become/is becoming.
He knows he has to cross that line eventually as in his current state he is still too weak, but I can imagine he fears it too. To loose himself completely and become what the other gods became as well; arrogant, prideful, no longer caring about anything other than power. But we still see Solas' good sides, he hasn't fully succumbed to the other side yet.
Unfortunately he has been so worn down by ignorance of those around him that he has lost the patience to make real friends and rely on them. Hopefully that is something Varric can still teach him, that relying on others and having someone watch your back can be the difference between loosing it all again or actually getting a win in for a change.

That would make a great Dragon Age 5 where the roles are reversed and the other races are fighting to survive and the elves are choosing to increase their race and reduce others. He's always been like that. Even in da:i, he'll express approval for you helping refugees. Seems nice and thoughtful, except.... for what? His big plan is to destroy them, anyway. So, I don't think he approves of helping people, I think he was approving of Inquisitor mirroring how he treated the ancient elves. He isn't seeing people, he's seeing a dream of his own people being where these refugees are and he was fully forcing himself to pretend the whole time. He even admitted he DIDN'T see people as real, he was viewing it as a big long dream so who actually cares about those people besides us? He continually disregarded the other races, too. Qunari? Disrespectful to them. If you're a Qunari Inquisy it's even worse. Varric? "Child of Stone" despite Varric's constant insistence that he's a surface dwarf and is uncomfortable with anything to do with caves. His full plan, as known from all his quotes in Trespasser, is he's going to destroy Thedas as it is. For himself. He's seriously the most selfish character I've seen. (Which is actually good writing to make me hate a character so much because I don't typically feel this invested, I like to give benefits of doubt, but it was impossible with Solas. Even as I romanced him to see what the fuss was about on my third playthrough, I just couldn't find those redeeming parts. He's wounded and he acts like he's the only one wounded. He's even willing to wipe out everyone who isn't his ideal to heal himself.) Pride really is his biggest flaw.

@@TonksTheFool You forget that he is seeing spirits. Remember his quest to help a friend. And how that spirit wailed in pain and got twisted into a demon. By end this demon transformed into a harmless spirit that just wishes to die. So it does. His friend is no more. All because of Veil and mages who can pierce with magic the veil wanted to summon it against it's will. If there was no Veil they wouldn't have to pull it out like this, mutilate it into raging beast .. and then remember mages. They saw a monster. What he saw as spirit, as person of magical source .. his long friend .. a monster, because of what these ignorant mages did to it.
As for Qunari .. I played as qunari, so like he wasn't only one having issues. Believe it or not, my vashoth has more issues with Iron Bull takes towards her. Besides Corypheus mocks us saying how we were 'failed experiment' so .. qunari aren't natural. Solas probably knows. He might know the origin of qunari, reasons why they exist.
Beyond that one of clues in DA 4 is that Solas has been for years now (?) on action of freeing Tevinter slaves.
"Child of Stone" is probably referring to Titans. But Solas won't talk about it bluntly because of how old that knowledge is. And well he is speaking terms from his ancient times, and dwarves, as confirmed by Descent were made by Titans. You are upset at terms he uses, he is type of person that because of how distant his own past is, is trying to distance himself from everything.
It was even visible in romance, where he apologizes that he can't do it. This whole time he knows, Veil is wrong. It needs to go. But tearing Veil down will probably destroy world as it is now. He is person desperately trying to not form attachments to anyone in team, because we live in a world that is fundamentally flawed because of his mistake. We live in a mistake. A horrid mistake that cases like that poor spirit friends fate confirm to him.

@@cracmar03 The Veil was his mistake, so all those suffering spirits were his doing, no one elses. Thedas, however, was around before the veil, so it isn't a mistake. Thedas had the elves and Arlathan long before the veil every made what it did. Sure, the veil was a mistake and it made many things in its wake, it adapted and evolved and all those things that happen in nature. HOWEVER that doesn't make it okay for him to break it. Instead, he wallows in his mistake, he takes his anger out on those who don't even know, whose reality is very much real for them. He's trying to turn back a clock that stopped ticking for him and instead of trying to fix the cogs and the gears, he's breaking the clock. That's not okay. I'd be much more sympathetic to him if he was open to other ideas and other ways. But he isn't. It's his way or the highway, because of course he has trust issues. The difference is he was SHOWN people trusted him. He was SHOWN signs that the world was good and people wanted to help. And instead he makes a cult, runs away and goes through with a break the clock plan. He's an idiot.

He also reminds me in a roundabout way, a legendary historical figure like Alexander the Great. He has a vision, conviction and the power and will to do whatever is neccessarry to succeed.
Men followed people like Solas in real historical references because of that conviction and power. He feels he HAS to do this because the Veil was his responsibility and his greatest consequence that destroyed the world when he created it.
I can sympathize with that goal and why. Even if the results of what he wants to do is horrific. And if it were humans instead of Solas in this position I'm sure people would make every justification to putting humans back in the power position.
So the hypocrisy of wanting Solas to fail, when we would do exactly what he's doing for our people is too much for me to stomache.

I'd add, apart from being proud, Solas is emotionally stuck in the moment of realizing that the veil won't solve the elves' problem. He didn't just change reality, he destroyed it. And then, he wants to solve the problem by again destroying another reality. Like, Solas, get your act together, you're obviously not good at thinking about unintended consequences. That's not taking responsibility for your own actions, that's just trying to cope with your own overly simplistic thinking about how power operates.

He has no faith in the people he claims he is trying to save. If he had an ounce of trust, maybe none of this would have happened.
