    As a guy that did play the original game, and has researched a bunch of stuff surrounding it, I think I can try to provide some context for some of the changes you aren't too familiar with.
    So, first off, the new moveset. It's interesting because originally, Mickey could only run and jump, do a double jump, and a Spin Attack a-la Mario Galaxy - that one's part of the motion controls shenanigans. It was also used to command Guardians, little sprites that hang around you depending on how much you've been favoring Paint or Thinner, and you did some motion control stuff to either attack enemies or find the way forward. It never got in the way actually, especially the Spin Move, just like in the Mario Galaxy games, it's really intuitive.
    The other motion control thing, of course, comes from the pointer, to aim where you want to spray Paint or Thinner. It was very responsive on the Wii, and when Epic Mickey 2 came out for more platforms, it ended up showing why the Wii pointer was the best way to play the game. The pointer is also used to point where you want to use a Sketch, and spawn in either a TV to power devices or distract enemies, a Clock to slow down time around you, or an Anvil to use as a platform, crush down enemies, or press pressure plates.
    So yeah, them removing the motion control stuff makes me wonder how will they handle the brush as a whole, in hindsight. Some of the things you can paint or erase are higher or lower from the platforms you can stand on, so I wonder how will that be tackled. Maybe it works in conjunction with the camera, with the pointer always being in the center of the screen. A bit more limiting, but we can make due with it. Plus, it does mean that the quick splashes of Paint or Thinner we can also do (another feature in the original) will probably be more used in combat, since they're quicker and more practical. I personally rarely used those "close target" splashes in favor of the ranged sprays, it just felt more natural with the Wiimote in hand, so it's nice to see that one would prefer to get more use out of them in this remake.
    Since we don't have much info about the new moves, we don't know if they'll be used for either combat, exploration or just more fluid movement. We also don't know if they'll make any changes to the level design in order to accommodate for these.
    The level select is interesting since, to me, because it had an option for the Dev Menu, it looked more like a debug menu feature, but it would be a cool addition since the game, despite having a few hub areas, is very much linear.
    This leads me to my next point, the choices/morality system. Despite being able to choose how you wanna tackle many challenges and problems, either helping folks, ignoring their problems, or making their situation worse... the story never really changes. Sure, boss characters are either redeemed or killed, some side characters either appreciate you or hate your guts, and even some areas and missions will only be available in either option... but the main story never quite changes, which I don't think is what was originally planned. Some unused stuff relates to Oswald antagonizing Mickey a lot more strongly, and even having a boss fight against him, so there's that.
    The original game had "different endings" too, and by that I mean it's the same ending, but some scenes that show the fate of some characters are either good or bad. And that's it. I am probably asking for way too much here, since this is a _faithful_ remake (and with Rehydrated, there were not all that many prominent changes to the core game either), but I would really live to see this idea of proper different endings depending on your playstyle a bit more realized.
    Next, there's the whole thing about no reimplementation of cut areas, like Wonderland and that one factory on top of a beanstalk that appear on Wasteland's map in the intro cutscene. I'm still a bit bummed out about that, honestly. I know it's a faithful remake, but since they're already willing to change some things, it makes you wonder why not some others. Now to be fair, adding new areas means they'd have to change the story and flow of the whole game. It means either creating whole new areas, characters, missions, enemies, all that stuff, either from scratch or from incomplete concepts. So, I'm bummed out, but I still sorta get it. Plus, they did the same thing with Rehydrated, so it's on-brand, we can say that much.
    Regardless of all that, I'm really happy to see this game making a return. I'm honestly just glad it's being brought to a new generation, regardless of changes, and it coukd be the starting point for new Epic Mickey stuff in the future, hopefully.

    The motion controls from the original Epic Mickey were basically aim and shoot the paint or thinner giving you complete freedom as to where you're aiming. It didn't get in the way, it actually enhanced it. Personally I was hoping the Switch version would have gyro controls to aim with the paintbrush. I might as well get the Series X version.

    RidersDX, 12:54 -12:56 "So, the 2D cutscenes will be reused from the original"
    Really? I'm surprised to hear that the 2D cutscenes AREN'T being remade. I honestly was expecting them to be remade, especially considering how some of the beginning 2D cutscenes featured Gus the Gremlin demonstrating the control mechanics with animated chalkboard illustrations. These scenes clearly showed a Wii Remote (as well as what motion controls to use) due to the original game being a Wii exclusive. If what you said is true, then I don't know how they're going to work around that.

  • @lucasd6880
    @lucasd6880 4 месяца назад +1

    This is being remade by the same people that remade Battle For Bikini Bottom. I think if you keep that in mind, your expectations should be fairly accurate. This will likely be a nearly one-to-one remaster of the original, with a few small extra things added in for fun. I highly doubt there will be any huge brand new things. The Spongebob remaster was great, so this one probably will be too!

    Having more Disney games being made, including bringing back Infinity (which I hope they will bring it back) if Rebrushed is successful would be wonderful, also about the whole Toys to Life system being difficult to bring back at 14:03
    Disney did actually released the gold editions of the three games on Steam back in 2016 that didn't used the Toys to Life aspect, but instead went with the digital route with having everything unlocked from the start, very much like the mobile and PC versions of the original games when they first came out from 2013-2016, so I could see a new Infinity title getting made that used the digital toys idea from the Gold Editions would sell very well
