  • What's up, folks! I'm back with another Duran Duran reaction, and this time we return to their 1990 album Liberty for the song "First Impression." As you'll see, I like this one a lot, and I felt several influences and multiple styles along the way. So join me for a fun and fast track from early '90s Duran. Cheers!

I'd like to point out I resisted the immense temptation to comment immediately after the song ended with, "My first impression?"

This is a great rocking song. Some of the best shredding Warren has ever done in his time with Duran.

This and "My Antarctica" have been my faves from LIBERTY right from the start. I never thought of it as some kind of rip-off, I was just so happy to have new songs when the album came out. And I still enjoy a lot of the songs, including "Read My Lips".

Right there with you LDW. I knew this album was frowned upon by I try to find their artistry in every song they create. Kudos Matt for giving “Liberty” a chance.

I remember their live version from the Dilate Your Mind tour of 94 at the Radio City Music Hall in NYC and it was powerful, massive with great guitar solo at the end !!!

This is where Warren's guitar work really starts to shine as it's showcased a lot more. I love the little flourishes such as at 08:27 in the vid where Simon sings "Good enough for you" and Warren extends the "you" with a sustained note. This is the guitar creativity that I still miss.

Hi Matt, love this tune!🎵 it's a real rocker and a great why to start the second part of the Album which for me is much stronger than the first half🙂 so here's a bit of an outlandish claim, this song always reminds me of Black Sabbaths Paraniod, in the sense that from the opening bars you have shake ya head right through it till the end!👍lol. This is hilarious, and it brings up a related anecdote. One of the ska/punk bands I listen to, Voodoo Glow Skulls, has a song called "Trouble Walking." Well the singer has a voice that makes words a bit "blurry" sometimes, and for like 15 years, I thought the chorus was "To Milwaukee ... I'm moving to Milwaukee" (to my dying day, I will insist that's what it sounds like). Then one day I paid closer attention to the tracklist and was like, "oh my god..." I felt ridiculous until I told a friend who also likes the band, and he said, "Wait, he's not saying 'jabberwocky'?!" Me = dead
Anyway, I did react to that song if you're amused enough to hear it. Cheers.

Good Liberty track...I always loved Warren's guitar! I wish they would had brought him back after Andy left for the second time. I think Read my Lips was one of the tracks I would skip. Pop Trash was the album that I first hated and listening to it again recently can really appreciate.

warren show he can make a great rock guitar cliches......just as good as Andy!!!! even better. but still a cliche..... sadly no bush reference with the read my lips.....good vibe. except the chorus, this one sounds like DM in the early 90s......nothing to write home about....get a grip, read my lips.....that is a combo of prince with DM, and not as a praise.i know i dissssssss this album a lot......but i expect more from them.

This is ok. Just not anything exceptional or even Duran sounding. It could be any other bland 80s rock band.
And it feels like towing the line. At this point when I bought this album and got to this point, my heart sank - I felt I lost my band
