My take is that Ichigo is perpetually depressed, following his mother's death and his inability to protect her due to the hero complex that has long been established as part of his character. Ichigo wants to protect his friends and family, and it's only after his meeting with Rukiya and him gaining Shinigami powers that he's able to do so properly. This is what leads to him being happier, and conversely leads to his crash outs during his moments of weakness. The fullbring arc goes even deeper into the depression theme with Ichigo losing his powers, aka his sense of hope and his way to cope with his depression. And we can only see him spiral more and more as the arc progresses, leading upto his cathartic breakdown after Ginjo steals his fullbring and his friends and family all get manipulated by Tsukishima Bleach is so different from your run of the mill 2000s shounen and it's really a story you can enjoy on the surface for its hype fights and action scenes, but also read into the subtext behind it, and appreciate the masterful writing and artistry of Kubo.
Ulquiorra's own journey to understanding the heart with Orihime's encouragement and refusal to give in to despair, is amongst the most changing character arcs in the series. Even if it tragically occurred in his final moments as Orihime reached for him. And that's Orihime's key strength, a refusal to sink to despair. She had a horrible early life yet preferred to see the bright side and refuse negativity. Others have had everything be it power, speciality and influence yet would happily drown the worlds in blood to see their often exclusionary status quo emerge.
@@manuelacosta9463 this is why the arrancar are the better nuanced than the Quincies. With the hollows we go through multiple evolution to have them human at some point. Ichigo’s and Orihime’s conflict in the series mostly revolved around hollows. As hollows were included in their tragedies. We don’t have that kind of dynamic with the sternritters. I don’t mean a sob backstory but more of an underlying theme.
Orihime and Ichigo are so great together because they are so similar. She couldn't "heal" Ichigo because she needed healing herself (from Ichigo), and he couldn't protect her because he needed protection himself (from Zangetsu aka himself). Both of them were drowning in the "rain" that is sadness and depression. Orihime is in my opinion the shadow of Ichigo, in the sense that the character development that we see Ichigo go through, Orihime also goes through the exact development but it is VERY subtle and poetic in the way Kubo delivers it... and I think that was the intention by Kubo the moment he introduced Inoue to the story. Even on the surface level, Ichigo's Shikai manifests as a big sword overflowing with raw power... Why did Ichigo's Zanpakutou manifest a sword just as long or longer than he is tall? To answer that, answer this question first, for what reason did Ichigo manifest a Zanpakutou in the first place? It was to PROTECT his loved ones. Orihime is really no different, her Fullbring is just a shield overflowing with her will to "reject"... Why did Orihime's Fullbring manifest a Shield big or bigger than herself? To answer that, answer this question first, for what reason did Orihime manifest a Fullbring to begin with? It was to PROTECT her loved ones. So on the surface, they both got their wish but no. Ichigo wants to protect his friends and family as a SHIELD, the same way his mother shielded him from harm. But he got a sword, and so subconsciously the sword became big enough that it could almost pass as a shield. But more importantly, he wanted to be strong enough that even without a solid shield of his own, he could simply overwhelm any threat with his blade. (that's where Sado comes in very early on while he's still not "strong enough", since Chad goes on to get his own offensive weapon once Ichigo doesn't need him as a shield anymore, but that's another topic). Orihime's inner conflict was just like Ichigo's, she wanted to be capable to protecting her friends by actually destroying any threat like Ichigo could, but she instead got a shield. So she felt useless. It took a lot for her to come to terms with the reality that she simply isn't suited to protect her loved ones the way Ichigo does it, her path was to protect Ichigo... Since he's the sword that cuts down any threat, she would be his shield and comfort(healer). Together, they are one, they complete each other. This was just the surface level stuff just looking at their powers alone, and that's one thing I think Bleach does the best, the powers tell you so much about the characters. Inoue doesn't need a power up because she can simply reject any phenomena, as long as Ichigo is there to take out any threats by powering up, she will be there to protect him. She will not stand behind him, and he will not stand in front of her, they stand side by side as sword and shield to face any threat and protect their loved ones together. Orihime and Ichigo VS Yhwach is the culmination of their journey together. They drifted apart because the Shield and Sword have different paths, they are trained differently, maintained differently, and mastered differently, but in the end, they compliment each other in battle... Rukia was there to sharpen Ichigo, and in turn Ichigo (more like White, by this I mean, she strived to get stronger so that Ichigo wouldn't have to become a scary lonely monster ever again) was there to give Inoue courage. And so when The Horn Of Salvation form is revealed to Inoue, she has the courage to not only accept it, but the confidence to shield Ichigo from needing to push himself further than that or losing himself. I could go on and on but Orihime is REALLY under-appreciated for how much depth there is to her. They are so perfect for each other too. Gin and Rangiku Masaki and Isshin Rukia and Renji These are all great, but I personally believe that Orihime and Ichigo is the best written couple in not just Bleach, but in most Shonen (definitely in the Big 3 for sure).
Bleach is a story that often tempers with our morality. Yet there are people on the soul reapers side who genuinely try to make commence for everything messed up in the past. Also how important it is to withdraw strength from the heart.
7:41 honestly that speech kinda leads me to believe Yhwach is really just a victim cause this man witnesses death thousands of times and sometimes even his own thanks to Almighty and being the Quincy king like we kinda don’t realize but this dude experiences the same feelings Subaru from Re:Zero does just with his other sternritter’s inherited memories it makes sense why he’d want to get rid of that torture even if it means rewriting the rules of reality while he is a villain I really don’t sympathize with he is most definitely a villain I empathize with the most probably in all of anime.
yhwach is tragic yes but there's more to him than that, he's actually a very complex character and encompasses several villain archetypes tyrant via killing his own people to strengthen himself mastermind via using ichigo's blood to kill the soul king, his quotes imply he had planned that since a thousand years ago before the almighty was sealed fanatic via doing everything he can to achieve his goal of creating a world without death, even paradoxically causing death, and discarding any honor or justice since he is in a war tragic via watching his father becoming the soul king and experiencing trillions of quincy deaths throughout history (see yamamoto's bankai) corrupted if we consider old man zangetsu is yhwach from 1000 years ago, meaning he was a rather good guy back then and became a monster centuries later after losing the first war and experiencing most quincy deaths and force of nature via representing fate and despair. this gets more apparent after he absorbs the soul king and his appearance changes to something lovecraftian
I have a lot of empathy for Yhwach after seeing episode 28 of the TYBW anime. From my understanding, it seems like Adnyeus did this to him on purpose and it's very tragic.
No.. offence bro.. but Re: zero is too simple of a story when put alongside BLEACH. I get why most people don't realise What bleach is untill they wish to Dig deep.
Most ppl underrate Bleach because it's not on a surface lvl like Naruto or One Piece. It's more like AOT or some others manga that you have to watch twice ot analysis to understand
Kubo IS NOT A POET!!! He is a musician and bleach is concept album. The "poems" feel like lyrics not poetry. @kumo i was gonna explain why kubo isnt a poet but i have a video debunk on this notion. So you know why I won't respond
"true bankai" fanfic again? Ok, i will play along, if ichigo "true bankai" power is shatter fate so what is ichigo "true shikai" power? Also one of my fav poem is bleach vol 60.
Bleach aged MUCH better than Naruto and One Piece. Is only now that people are starting to realize how good Bleach actually is compared to those 2. Not that i think they're bad tho.

What makes Kubo special is his insane foreshadowing and his power to give the drippiest clothing ever to his characters.

I love how Bleach started as a 90s looking ghost/school anime to entering a war in the afterlife to stop the universe from collapsing

bleach is so underrated i am so glad you made this video
Kubo is such a philosopher and i love him for that
Been a naruto fan since i was young and still am, but since the time naruto ended no anime had brought me joy as much as bleach truly a masterpiece
Have u tried One Piece... plz do
I knew Bleach was deep but not THAT deep. So, thanks for the deeper dive
Awsome vid dude not many creators dive into the Poetry and literature of bleach a topic I think is very underrated 🔥🔥

You that is. I myself, will always sympathise with the quincies. They are tragic
@ the Quincies are tragic but it is difficult to sympathize with them.
Great analysis! Great video!
amazing video keep the bleach content coming
