My first run with this item i took damage immediately after getting it on my like, 3rd floor and took it all the way to beast and it fell while i was in a pesticide cloud and i instinctively dodged it using dark arts without realizing it until my friends on my stream pointed out it was no longer above my head, have yet to see this item since

@@WikiED code of the game explicitly shows that it triggers Damocles chance to fall only if you get hit.
Unless the code has been spaghettied, Damocles won't ever fall.
@@silverdededestruction2197 Are you sure? The wiki says it also has a 1/10000 chance to drop every 4th tick or something like that.

@@nelots1462 They're right, the condition for Damocles to begin checking every 4th tick is taking heart damage that isn't self inflicted (Such as in the case of Blood Donation, Demon Beggars, Curse Rooms, etc.)
Because Holy Mantle stops you from taking the damage, it won't ever fall in the case of The Lost unless you get an extra life, in which case as seen in the video, Damocles will eventually fall on the next life.
I feel a bit guilty being praised for patience :|
I did not actually wait 16 hours. Cheat Engine made it 5 times faster, so it should be around 3 hours only. And I just left it there and went to sleep lol.
I think it is safe to make a conclusion if the sword does not fall after 140 mins.
If you find something incorrect, just let me know (maybe with proof as well so that I can verify it).
As a math guy I can say that 140 minutes is more than sufficient. If the game runs at 60fps, there’s a 99.999663% chance the sword would have fallen by then. For just a 99% chance you would only have to wait about 51 minutes.

actually according to the wiki, game logic accepts 30 fps.

Tooth and Nail saved my Damocles run with Samson to the Witness.
My first item was "Metronome" which on the second use, gave me Damocles. And yes, it didnt go away.
I took so many hits, and yet the sword didnt fall on me... for a VERY long time. Guess when it triggered?!
On Corpse II. Also, it triggered on the 1 second invincibility of the tooth and nail.
That spared me from losing the run, and i beat witness afterwards.
I will NEVER forget that run. :3
Tooth and nail is surprisingly good for that, it gives you invulnerability 1/7 of the entire run so having a 1/7 chance of avoiding Damo isn't bad at all

Same, only noticed those recently. Was playing co-op with my bro and he went afk so I just walked in circles around which is when I noticed them.
It seems you kinda need to tread the same path or step on the same places to make the prints more and more defined.

I had a Damocles run where I actually had red key. I took it all the way to Delirium where I found R key, so I was min maxing against my better judgement but I opened a red library and inside was a book of shadows, which I grabbed and just instinctually used. It wasn't until one of the boss rooms not giving me 2 items did I realize that the book of shadows saved me from the damocles fall.

As alt eden when you get hit Damocles seems to reroll it self into new Damocles, which is restarting falling fall chance, that makes eden, lost and tainted lost best characters for this item

You know curious, if you can have it in the death certificate room, can you hypothetically die in there and if so what does isaac descibe the room as? Is it the same as the floor or is it a special one?
Since it looks a lot like the red key room at home, it's probably described as a "familiar place"
How Glowing Hour Glass works with Damocles? Can you save yourself using it while the sword falls? If this works, will the sword fall at the same time it had fallen before returning?

Idea: The knife can be thrown and can be controlled depending on the direction you are facing. (Ex: facing up, you throw the knife, it can go up and down) The knife retreats back to you when you move or when you turn directions, and can be thrown again.
This item seems really good for the Lost/tainted lost and Lazarus.

I presume if youre quick on the draw you could react to the falling sword with dark arts? I|m fairly certain dark arts counts as complete invincibility since wisps from the book of virtues arent destroyed while in dark arts either
I think that you could react to the sword in time with some form of invincibility. If you wanted to try and survive the fall you could figure out on average the amount of time it should fall, and then wait and try and react once that amount of time has passed after taking damage. No clue how fast the start up of invulnerability items like unicorn horn/stump or book of shadows is, but if it's frame one it could be doable.

The point of the item is to induce the fear of your run ending at any moment, if you don't remember you took damage that's a you problem
@@Osvaldatore Well, I get that. And I was just saying what the other person wanted to say. I personally would've liked a way to tell if self hurt did or did not trigger it. Like, an indicator for like one room only, just to confirm it did trigger

I had a T-Eden run where I took democles thinking it would re-roll after I took damage so it would just be extra items for free. That shit didn't even let me realise I was wrong, it fell on me frame 1 the first time I got hit.

It's not just because of Damocles, but I am really glad that the game now differentiates between intentional and unintentional damage, because I don't think that used to be a thing - definitely not for Angel/Devil deal chance as far as Curse and Sacrificial rooms are concerned, and I am pretty sure even Blood Bank and Devil Beggar used to ruin chances back in WotL.
would tooth and nail's invincibility work? if you're going to test it I suggest trying to make it always on if you can somehow
So.. can your reaction time be fast enough to use Book of Shadows or a invincibility pill/rune at the moment the sword falls? Like seeing the sword start to fall, pressing the item button and survive with the invincibility? Or impossible with the short timeframe?
