This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). @@JuliettJess Glad you decided to react to this band,They’re definitely a band that are better live,their studio stuff is good but it’s their live performances where they shine…they go from operatic though to rock,folk,Celtic and on to thrash and everything in between,hope you decide to dip your toe into some more..if you do then definitely use Gabriel’s list as it has the best quality videos performance and audio wise.👍

A real life animal (think Muppets) on the drums with Jukka and the impish prince on guitar, as amazing as he is playful, Emppu. Nightwish has always been considered as a live band but were taken to another level after this singer, Floor Jansen, joined only ten months previously mid tour in the USA with only 48 hours to travel from The Netherlands and learn the setlist. Every song (15) had been written for other singers before she joined.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish, and the genre of metal music called Symphonic Metal, it is indeed a deep, deep rabbit hole!! Floor is the group's 3rd singer, the original singer Tarja (who this song was originally written for) had a much more pronounced "operatic" style voice. Anette was the 2nd vocalist and had a much more pop/rock orientated vocal, and then came Floor who had been singing with the band for about 10 months when this show at Wacken in 2013 was performed (she wasn't actually confirmed as a full time member of the band at this point in time as she had famously agreed to join the group on their US tour at short notice when Anette became ill, and travelled from Europe to join them and perform her first concert with only 48 hours notice!)
I did see there were previous singers before Floor which I found interesting! I feel at one point I may look into listening the other 2, I wouldn’t compare them as such but would love to see the differences like you mentioned 👍🏻
@@JuliettJess Yes, be very careful with comparing the 3, especially Floor and Tarja, as it can strike quite a raw nerve with some ardent fans of certain eras of the band and it just gets very messy in the comments. Unfortunately Anette never really hit the same level of performance of either Tarja or Floor live, so her studio material is probably the best way to sample her vocals. Also, be ready to discover a surprise 4th and 5th vocalist!!
Nightwish songs never are what you're expecting. And I can still say that after having been a fan for more than 25 years. You just discovered simply the world's best band. Enjoy the experience; it'll be a great ride - such an incredible high. For some contrast, you might try "7 days To The Wolves" live at Wembley next. Or maybe the Epic emotions of "The Poet And The Pendulum". Then there's the all-encompassing "The Greatest Show On Earth" which is....well, the title says it all! Truth is, you can't go wrong with any of this band's many live performances.

@@JuliettJess this concert (wacken 2013) is incredibly epic and deserves to be watched and reacted entirely, song by song, in particular I suggest these three songs: "song of myself", "storytime" and "ever dream" this performance of "ghost love score" is one of the three best performances of the nightwish band, together with "the poet and the pendulum" from 2015 concert at the london wembley arena and "the greatest show on earth" from 2015 concert in tampere - finland (actually there is a fourth best performance: "dead boy's poem" from the 2018 concert in buenos aires).

Great reaction! None of us were prepared for what was in store when we first heard the greatest band on earth. It’s why we watch reactions bc it gives us joy to watch others experience the same . Please do more bc believe it or not this is the tip of the NW iceberg. Every song is unique and tells a story. They give 100% in every performance. One thing I enjoy watching repeatedly is the singer herself reacting to this video. She did that on her RUclips channel, oh probably 2 or 3 years ago now. But it is absolutely fascinating to me to hear the actual singer's thoughts on this very performance, from her point of view. I don't know why, but I just find that massively interesting.

Fyi At this concert Floor Jansen was only 10 months with the band. She stepped in halfway NW's World Tour, after the 2nd singer left the band. Floor had only 48 hrs to learn the setlist, 15 songs! When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on RUclips. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered RUclips in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turns 7 years next march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

It’s a shame you have only just discovered them because they have taken a break from touring. I was there when they played to a packed Wembley Arena in 2022 and it was just mind blowing. But the good news is that there are tons of amazing live videos to check out. If you got to Gabriel Bardac’s famous list you will find links to the best version of their songs. And, believe me, every Nightwish song will be an experience, every Nightwish song will be different, but it will always be unmistakeably Nightwish. You can't go wrong with General Gabriel's list of recommendations, but in my eyes Nightwish is best served live (Wacken 2013, Tampere & Wembley 2015, Buenos Aires 2018), and for Floor solo, I recommend anything from the Beste Zangers 2019 TV show or the covers from Floors YT-channel done during the pandemic. Although they aren't massively well known here in the UK (you sound like a fellow Brit) they do headline the bigger arenas when they play here. Across Europe they have had a number of big hits - including 13 number 1 singles in their native Finland. 🇬🇧👍
So true about not well known in the UK. I only came across them about 2 1/2 years ago by chance off another reaction channel for GLS. I was hooked after looking at more songs from this Wacken concert.🎣
@@paulmarsh4079 I had a couple of their CDs with Tarja, but would have classed myself a casual fan at that time. It was seeing a GLS reaction 4 years ago that really elevated my enthusiasm for them - they are my favourite band now and I've acquired many more CDs & Blu-rays.
I was fortunate in that my French girlfriend (at the time) put me onto them. We saw them perform in Nottingham in 2004, and even stayed in the same hotel as them 😊

Vous venez de faire connaissance du métal symphonique et de notre reine Floor, mais vous n'avez qu'effleuré le dessus de l'iceberg et vous n'êtes qu'a l'entrée du terrier de lapin. Continuez sur le festival du Wacken Open Air 2013, vous êtes sur de ne pas vous tromper, les quinze chansons du set sont des classiques pour tous les fans du groupe et sont à écouter absolument. Cette chanson est la 11 sur les 15 du set complet, ensuite toujours dans le même concert, faites le Ever Dream qui commence comme une douce ballade voix piano et sur un signe de Marko ( le bassiste ) continue d'accélérer pour finir comme un train à grande vitesse, ensuite je conseille une petite histoire comme Storytime un excellent rock entêtant puis essayez du plus lourd avec Ghost River pour entendre le surprenant mélange des voix de Floor avec Marko ou plus lourd encore avec Romanticide..... They have been around since 1996 with two previous lead singers. They just yesterday completed their tenth studio album, yet to be released. There is much to discover with this band, including amazing performances from Wembley in 2015. Enjoy the journey. It’s one worth taking!
she is one of the most versatile singers with that voice such effortless transitions between highs and lows operatic its quite incredible the range both she and they have together
Ok. I'm a 74 year old former professional musician, first trained on classical piano. I proceeded to teach myself guitar in college, and three years later I began playing as part of a duo in Greenwich Village. I also played guitar , synthesizer, sang backup and wrote most of the music for a hard rock band with my duo partner singing lead, when the only band doing anything like us was Heart. We also recorded in major NYC studios, such as the late, great Hit Factory, so I know my s..t and have also attended many, many live concerts. This performance is simply the greatest vocal performance I have ever experienced, by far. Nothing comes close. Of course the entire band is phenomenal as well, but the beauty of this vocal, is virtually perfect in evrry way possible. Her stage presence is magnetic, her ability to not just express emotions, but make everyone feel what she is expressing (much more difficult and rarer than you think), and her incredible ability to change the vocal technique she uses to best express what she is saying is beyond anything I've ever experienced. In other words, the entire performance is close to beyond belief. I fell deep into the Nightwish with Floor Jansen rabbit hole, so I can tell you virtually all her performances are almost this good, but yes, this is the best, in my not so humble opinion. Bravo enchantress, and bravo Nightwish.
Hi JuliettJess, I found Nightwish during lockdown completely by chance. I became quickly addicted, and in December of 2022 I was lucky enough to see them at Wembley Arena. I'm almost sure you know where that is :). It was a fantastic experience, and I hope they go on the road again, I'll be seeing them again for sure if and when they do. I really enjoyed the reaction, thanks! It's a deep rabbit hole, one i've really enjoyed taking, and I hope you choose to do the same. Gabriel will have given you some links. Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora. Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. And the master of this magic is: Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish) Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot. I don't usually comment on GLS reactions, even if I'm watching them a lot. But your emotions were so pure and written all over your face - loved it. Been a fan for nearly 25 years, have seen them with every singer live (and loved every one) more then once and feel so absolutly connected to them (like many many many people), no other musician could do this for me! My favorite line in the world is the last "We were here" from Greatest Show On Earth. Gotta need this as a tattoo!! Love and hugs to every Nightwish Fan out there. We are one, we are a universe...
I'd recommend Ever Dream as well as Romanticide (from the same live Wacken 2013 show) as your next stop in your Nightwish journey. Lots of great other songs to check out as well. Happy listening!

Nightwish Army Northern California reporting in. This band does everything live beyond that, which is put on a recording. Recommendations: Off this live show, "Romanticide," all metal it's a real treat to watch their whole set. Floor, the singer, had only been in the band for a few months, and this was her coming out party. Then I recommend another epic, " the greatest show on earth," and finally recommend a song cover that Floor did during covid from her home "oblivion" The Valerie goddess is, in my humble opinion, the greatest singer of our generation.

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

@@JuliettJessWatching the whole Wacken 2013 - if you never heard this band before - will be more like going to the concert and seeing them for the first time (even if you're watching it song by song - to actually watch the whole show in a row might be more epic. A NW concert night.) I saw this concert on RUclips in 2014. First time I saw Floor. Just amazing. There's so many more music from Tuomas and Floor that you can listen to after that.

The genius that is Tuomas writing these works of art and rocking out on the keyboard. A real life animal (think Muppets) on the drums with Jukka and the impish prince on guitar, as amazing as he is playful, Emppu. Then you have the Swiss (British) army knife known as Troy just to rub it in to all the other bands. Greatest live band on the planet. Follow the lists and you're in for a journey.

Nightwish has always been considered as a live band but were taken to another level after this singer, Floor Jansen, joined only ten months previously mid tour in the USA with only 48 hours to travel from The Netherlands and learn the setlist. Every song (15) had been written for other singers before she joined.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish, and the genre of metal music called Symphonic Metal, it is indeed a deep, deep rabbit hole!! Floor is the group's 3rd singer, the original singer Tarja (who this song was originally written for) had a much more pronounced "operatic" style voice. Anette was the 2nd vocalist and had a much more pop/rock orientated vocal, and then came Floor who had been singing with the band for about 10 months when this show at Wacken in 2013 was performed (she wasn't actually confirmed as a full time member of the band at this point in time as she had famously agreed to join the group on their US tour at short notice when Anette became ill, and travelled from Europe to join them and perform her first concert with only 48 hours notice!)
I did see there were previous singers before Floor which I found interesting!
I feel at one point I may look into listening the other 2, I wouldn’t compare them as such but would love to see the differences like you mentioned 👍🏻
@@JuliettJess Yes, be very careful with comparing the 3, especially Floor and Tarja, as it can strike quite a raw nerve with some ardent fans of certain eras of the band and it just gets very messy in the comments. Unfortunately Anette never really hit the same level of performance of either Tarja or Floor live, so her studio material is probably the best way to sample her vocals. Also, be ready to discover a surprise 4th and 5th vocalist!!
Nightwish songs never are what you're expecting. And I can still say that after having been a fan for more than 25 years.
You just discovered simply the world's best band. Enjoy the experience; it'll be a great ride - such an incredible high.
For some contrast, you might try "7 days To The Wolves" live at Wembley next. Or maybe the Epic emotions of "The Poet And The Pendulum". Then there's the all-encompassing "The Greatest Show On Earth" which is....well, the title says it all!
Truth is, you can't go wrong with any of this band's many live performances.

this performance of "ghost love score" is one of the three best performances of the nightwish band, together with "the poet and the pendulum" from 2015 concert at the london wembley arena and "the greatest show on earth" from 2015 concert in tampere - finland (actually there is a fourth best performance: "dead boy's poem" from the 2018 concert in buenos aires).

Great reaction! None of us were prepared for what was in store when we first heard the greatest band on earth. It’s why we watch reactions bc it gives us joy to watch others experience the same . Please do more bc believe it or not this is the tip of the NW iceberg. Every song is unique and tells a story. They give 100% in every performance. So much so that Floor actually collapsed last year from exhaustion bc she wouldn’t quit the tour even while pregnant. Follow Gabriel’s suggestions! NWA Philadelphia subscribed.

Fyi At this concert Floor Jansen was only 10 months with the band. She stepped in halfway NW's World Tour, after the 2nd singer left the band. Floor had only 48 hrs to learn the setlist, 15 songs! When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’.
Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera).
'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’.
Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’
Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see.
Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on RUclips. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered RUclips in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish.
Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turns 7 years next march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

It’s a shame you have only just discovered them because they have taken a break from touring. I was there when they played to a packed Wembley Arena in 2022 and it was just mind blowing. But the good news is that there are tons of amazing live videos to check out.

And, believe me, every Nightwish song will be an experience, every Nightwish song will be different, but it will always be unmistakeably Nightwish. You can't go wrong with General Gabriel's list of recommendations, but in my eyes Nightwish is best served live (Wacken 2013, Tampere & Wembley 2015, Buenos Aires 2018), and for Floor solo, I recommend anything from the Beste Zangers 2019 TV show or the covers from Floors YT-channel done during the pandemic.

Although they aren't massively well known here in the UK (you sound like a fellow Brit) they do headline the bigger arenas when they play here.
Across Europe they have had a number of big hits - including 13 number 1 singles in their native Finland. 🇬🇧👍

It was seeing a GLS reaction 4 years ago that really elevated my enthusiasm for them - they are my favourite band now and I've acquired many more CDs & Blu-rays.
I was fortunate in that my French girlfriend (at the time) put me onto them. We saw them perform in Nottingham in 2004, and even stayed in the same hotel as them 😊

Continuez sur le festival du Wacken Open Air 2013, vous êtes sur de ne pas vous tromper, les quinze chansons du set sont des classiques pour tous les fans du groupe et sont à écouter absolument. Cette chanson est la 11 sur les 15 du set complet, ensuite toujours dans le même concert, faites le Ever Dream qui commence comme une douce ballade voix piano et sur un signe de Marko ( le bassiste ) continue d'accélérer pour finir comme un train à grande vitesse, ensuite je conseille une petite histoire comme Storytime un excellent rock entêtant puis essayez du plus lourd avec Ghost River pour entendre le surprenant mélange des voix de Floor avec Marko ou plus lourd encore avec Romanticide..... They have been around since 1996 with two previous lead singers. They just yesterday completed their tenth studio album, yet to be released. Ok. I'm a 74 year old former professional musician, first trained on classical piano. I proceeded to teach myself guitar in college, and three years later I began playing as part of a duo in Greenwich Village. I also played guitar , synthesizer, sang backup and wrote most of the music for a hard rock band with my duo partner singing lead, when the only band doing anything like us was Heart. We also recorded in major NYC studios, such as the late, great Hit Factory, so I know my s..t and have also attended many, many live concerts. This performance is simply the greatest vocal performance I have ever experienced, by far. Nothing comes close. Of course the entire band is phenomenal as well, but the beauty of this vocal, is virtually perfect in evrry way possible. Her stage presence is magnetic, her ability to not just express emotions, but make everyone feel what she is expressing (much more difficult and rarer than you think), and her incredible ability to change the vocal technique she uses to best express what she is saying is beyond anything I've ever experienced. In other words, the entire performance is close to beyond belief. I fell deep into the Nightwish with Floor Jansen rabbit hole, so I can tell you virtually all her performances are almost this good, but yes, this is the best, in my not so humble opinion. Bravo enchantress, and bravo Nightwish.
Hi JuliettJess, I found Nightwish during lockdown completely by chance. I became quickly addicted, and in December of 2022 I was lucky enough to see them at Wembley Arena. I'm almost sure you know where that is :). It was a fantastic experience, and I hope they go on the road again, I'll be seeing them again for sure if and when they do. I really enjoyed the reaction, thanks! It's a deep rabbit hole, one i've really enjoyed taking, and I hope you choose to do the same. Gabriel will have given you some links. Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora.
Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy.
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6).
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.

Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish)
Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people (one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany). The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.

Great reaction JJ..we have all been there with Nightwish discovery…I’m 72 and just discovered them a year ago and they are top of my bucket list to go from Canada to see them hopefully live in Finland when they decide to tour again 🤞🤞

I don't usually comment on GLS reactions, even if I'm watching them a lot. But your emotions were so pure and written all over your face - loved it. Been a fan for nearly 25 years, have seen them with every singer live (and loved every one) more then once and feel so absolutly connected to them (like many many many people), no other musician could do this for me! My favorite line in the world is the last "We were here" from Greatest Show On Earth. Gotta need this as a tattoo!! Love and hugs to every Nightwish Fan out there. We are one, we are a universe...

Floor is an angel and a beautiful flower which is what her name means in Dutch. She can sing anything. Listen to her cover of the heart song Alone. She pulls you right into the emotion of the lyrics.

Off this live show, "Romanticide," all metal it's a real treat to watch their whole set. Floor, the singer, had only been in the band for a few months, and this was her coming out party.
Then I recommend another epic, " the greatest show on earth," and finally recommend a song cover that Floor did during covid from her home "oblivion"
The Valerie goddess is, in my humble opinion, the greatest singer of our generation.
