- In 2005, Brad Soden invented a modified wheelchair for his wife Liz, who is paralyzed from the waist down, so she could actively participate in more activities with their family. These fearsome-looking machines can traverse rugged hillsides, sandy beaches and snowy embankments. "It took me 2 yrs and a bunch of beer in my garage..."
Holy shit, this guy is awesome.
I agree!!!
Amen to that! I am an Engineer (by school and trade) and will tell you that making that concept work is very difficult to say the least. Rock on brother!
@@4thorder ITs only difficult if you want it to be when you have a goal or need to do it you find a way. He did it cause of the love of his life and giving her life back. that is the biggest driver.
That's what America is about.
i have a feeling some russian dude is going to see this and just replace the tank turret with the chair lol.
The government should be required to provide vets with these free of charge if they are paralyzed during service.
LouPremo There is a slim chance that the VA will pay for one if you push the right buttons and have a VA doctor that will help you. The VA will give you 1 standard power chair and 1 sport chair which the track chairs are, but like I said you have to have a good doctor willing to say you need one to help you get your life back as much as possible. Also you might check with some of the places that do things for veterans that are in chairs but need something like this. I found one but they only give out about 5 a year since that is all the money they have donated to them. I had the interview and waiting to hear now if I get one. They go by what you will be able to do if they give you one. Me, I have always hunted but for the last few years I couldn't due to only having a regular power chair plus I love to go sit on the beach and fish and it takes a tracked chair to get on the sand or you will be stuck. Talk to your VA doctor and maybe they will get you one.
That would be the American people providing it. I think we would vote yes.
The vets can get no problem if they qualify
Then go one step further...and include anyone injured on the job while on USA soil.
They DO
I came to see tank chair. ended up emotional.
This guy has a big heart of gold
More proof of how some of us become effective engineers without actual engineering classes. Great job. Keep building.
These are the kind of stories we need now more than ever ! AND Thank you and all our veterans for service to To Our America !
"A bunch of engineers told me it couldn't be done..." Then you were talking to some really shitty engineers, dude.
Mr. Soden, you deserve an academic title in engineering for this.
Me thinks he deserves a lot more credit for this than he gets,...but i don't think he really cares about such things.
Seems genuine,...he doesn't have a single sign of being anything but humble and empathetic.
I really, REALLY need one of these.
Brad is amazing. I'm a disabled vet. If I had the money, I would love to have one of these. I have been very depressed because I no longer have mobility. Brad has given me hope, I'll try and figure out how to buy one of these. I so missed being outdoors. Thank you Brad for bring the person you are and thank you for your service.
This is insane I wish I saw your comment 5 years ago and had the money I would just contact you and have one sent to you immediately
Thy to make your own freind try
So nice to see someone who cares so deeply for others. That is rare in today's narcissistic world. Kudos to you and your lovely wife Brad! What a great invention!
if there were more people in the world like this man, the world would be a much better place, this man has shown us just how big his heart is, and where the giving back the gift of mobility can be a wonderful thing, god blessed this man with the talent to help others.
He is an example of how things actually got done before before computers!!
stuff like this usually comes with a high cost and the stories are usually fabricated bs .
you make an excellent I want to get in one of those chairs But i wish i could walk again
This is as American as it gets. Love, honor, commitment, and a never quit attitude to get it done.
Amen brother
Not to mention relentless entrepreneurship. This guy is a treasure.
Have you met ZachsJerryRig?? He and you should get your heads together, or at least say hi...
yes, I thought the same thing and posted this on their Safari video.
Yes mannn
People who say it can't be done should get out of the way of people who are doing it!
i made you read this damn straight
Inded it should be "how could it be done"
Living Successfully With Disabilities,,,,,, yea buddy u got it right
Well stated!
the ones that say that it cannot be done are trying to think how they can make them cost to much that they can line their pocket's. my sister who passed away in 1994 would have loved to get a hold of one of these when she lived in Texas.
...I particularly like the gun attachment
From Australia, at a time when we are all thinking about our troops and how scary the Korean Peninsula has become. It is uplifting to hear from such a selfless person. He seems both tough (in a nice way) and kind.
The world needs more people like him! You're an inspiration!
If only there were more people like this in the world! I work with disabled people in wheelchairs, it's horrible just how much you loose when you become chair-bound. This man and his work have and are changing lives. I just wanted to leave this here to say "Brad... We salute you!"
This guy is amazing! What he does..for others...Amazing!
Thumps up for this man!
+Der Eichbert this guy is anything but amazing! Do a search and look at all the cripples he's ripped off! This guy is a real piece of shit.
+Der Eichbert, How about backing up those negative remarks with some facts? It's easy to call names and denigrate people - any moron can do that. Someone truly concerned about people being "ripped off" would back up their statements with verifiable sources.
pbmaxx9
Ähm...what?
i think...you mean 1heavyHitr...not me...or do you?
+Der Eichbert - I'm so sorry - I was indeed directing my comments to 1HeavyHitr and not to you. Apologies!
Der Eichbert he is amazing n caring n you just gotta stop n think why can't there b more men like him on this world?this is a sure sign of America in its finest form a veteran helping better the lives of his fellow wounded returning brothers or sisters
"you cant swing a dead cow without hitting one", i love this guy so much, lol
LOL - I'm still trying to figure that one out..
Wow!! Former Marine here and want to wish a Happy birthday to all Marines today😊, and bless all service men and women who proudly defend the USA🇺🇸🦅🕊
I can already see my self getting kicked out of Wal-Mart on this lol
XD
I was thinking the same but that's when if I was able to get this chair lol
I wouldn't fuck with a man in a tank
and I can already see my lazy and obese neighbors going for their pizza and coffee runs on this.
Not me, they gotta katch me first! 😀
This chair is amazing! I wish I could afford something like it. The power-chairs I can afford can barely handle going outside on the pavement let alone off road. Would love to go on 'hikes' again.
I'm building something similar for my uncle. His accident was almost 3 years ago. I'm on a tight budget so I have to fabricate most parts myself (including the tracks). I was thinking about having the chair be detacheble so he can use his comfy chair for both applications...
Great to see there is a working model out there! Gives me confidence to see it racing around effortlessly 👍
Love and appreciate your passion. This brings tears to my eyes. My mother is 89 years old had a stroke and is wheel chair bound. In one day her independence was stripped from her. It had been so difficult for her. You chair is amazing, but getting a chair that will allow her to stand and climb stairs would be my first investment. Again thank you.
This guy seems like a real stand-up guy. A real man.
Vebinz Real American hero, top notch
+jared russell .... AMEN 2 THAT ! a MAN that put his LIFE on the line for ALLLLL of U.S.!,
then comes back & ... DEVOTES MORE ... of his LIFE for U.S.
Vebinz
No he's not, this guy is scamming people by selling faulty chairs and screwing people out of thousands of dollars. Search RUclips "MERIDIAN NEWS, REF ALL TANKCHAIRS ARE FAULTY WITH JIM STARR"
no pun intended?
I am a power chair user and I have insane levels of respect for this person :) thank you for working so hard to make a better future for us disabled people ❤
Your family and the ones you get to help are very lucky. Thank you for your contribution and dedication.
Everyone who has used his invention should give him a standing ovation he changed their lives for the better
A "standing" ovation? lol
Brad, Thank You Thank You, People like you is what make me proud to be an American, This chair is going to give people, in particular, our Brothers and Sisters that served and gave selflessly for our country, a new lease on life. I was moved to tears watching this video, I see the love and respect, just pouring from that gigantic heat you have, Wonderful! God Speed Brother
This is so positive and gives hope to chair users like me.
Need more kind and caring folks like this in the world. I ever hit the lotto I would purchase one of these for every single person civilian or veteran
As a vet with disabilities ( still walking) I applaude you.
This is the best thing iv'e seen all year.
Thank You for your abilities put to use and your compassion.
Thumbs up!
Nerol Salguod Thank you for your service and sacrifices.
Wow that is amazing. And you had no formal engineering training and to be able to build those chairs is truly remarkable. You're bringing happiness into a lot of people's life. Keep up the good work
Look more in to the story $40,000 for the chair and then 6 month most chairs wasn't working electrical problem with them and he just closed up shop.
I'm a bitter son of a gun... But how could ANYONE... Anyone, thumbs down this video?
Yoshimus Maximus I was thinking the same thing!
Yes in deed. No matter how kind, open and decent a RUclips video is, there are always negative detractors. Sad. A comment from Australia.
I know man... just people that arent happy with them selfs.
Yoshimus Maximus I see that all the time and wonder how. What is it that offends someone to see people being helped and having a better life than before..
You read my fucking mind.
I know this was posted a long time ago but I wanted to say what you are doing for people is amazing. Watching you talk about what you do and why you do it was heartwarming.
As someone who uses a power chair...this is friggin amazing and awesome!! Love this!!
Thank you for your service and the work you do. I myself have been in a chair since 2006 due to a motocross accident, left me paralyzed from the waist down. Would be nice to afford your chair, but times are tough all over, keep up the great work.
I love his heart! I hope his business last forever. Wish I could buy one of these for my dad.
The most awesome thing I've seen in a long time!
That’s pretty cool. Great work man, another level of freedom for those who really need it.
That's a really beautiful heart ❤️! God bless you man 🙏🏽🙌🏽
Awesome man!!!! Love the fact that he was determined to find a way for his wife to get out and do things!!! College is beneficial but ambition, determination, kindness, common sense go a lot farther!
Shannon: That’s a cool Trucky! I also like you were able to add both truck names!
That is the most awsome outdoor powerchair i have ever seen. Well done
You’ve got your power chair Penny but built to look like Bulldozer Ricky
“2 years and a bunch of beer”. This man is a legend, hat off to you, sir.
The man with his son brings back good memories of my son and yep daddys little girl we had some good times well im 80 now and have all those memories what. A life ,! If your in your 20s or 30s or what ever DON'T MISS THE CHANCE TO MAKE GOOD MEMORIES CAUSE YOU JUST CAN'T GO BACK AND GETEM
Awesome wheelchair, 3 years ago, me brain injury, now wheelchair bound.
Brilliant wheelchair...saving now.
Thanks brilliant man👏👏👏
Love it. I'm modifying my 4x4 skid steer wheelchair with independent suspension to go out
I would love to get one of these for my buddy. He spent most of his life outdoors and misses it.
I belong to the NWTF and they could use chairs like these for the disabled Veterans they help them to go hunting if I ever win the lotto I going to buy a bunch of these to help and donate them to different outdoor organzations. Thank you for service as well, GOD BLESS YOU SIR?❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
This guy is more inspirational then many influencers. His attitude. Appriciated. Nice work dude.
Man I love this guy, he’s so grounded and down to earth. It’s a shame that there aren’t more people like him in the world especially here in the 🇬🇧
Excellent! Good for you, buddy! People like you always change the world for the better.
: "You're a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve..." :o)
Bless you for your work!
As someone with a lot of foot pain, I know the value of being able to move, and get where I need to be, and you are doing a wonderful job helping others do just that. Blessings!
The word, the title of honour, hero, comes to mind. Thanks, Brad.
Imagine all the feet that would be ran over
love the chair, but most of all, love the man behind it !!!! great MAN with a great MIND !!!
I love what you do to help people physically get around
Dude you’re awesome and you’re onto something I can see a lot of people going through this product
A true American Inventor. God be with you in this endeavor.
amwaitingforrapture Amen
For anyone curious, this guy is a skeezball who knowingly shipped out hundreds of defective "tank chairs" and charged thousands of dollars to have them repaired. He rebranded his company to avoid legal issues too.
Where did you hear this at?
@@user-td1zo3tv9p Just enter "tankchair" into Google and read through the (for me) first hit. Explains it all. Don't be such a lazy ass.
I have had polio since I was 18 months old. I have been very active but now at 74 I find I am missing out so much. I would love to go out and see the beauty of nature and feel it. I usually end up seating for hours waiting for my family to return from their hikes. I see that you need a large truck to move your wheelchair from place to place. It would be wonderful if they could be rented on site in certain places. I'm so excited to see someone thinking about the disabled. Your are doing an amazing job.
Semper Fi brother. I found your words "unacceptable" about your wife not being able to go camping extremely motivating.
Brad way to put yourself out there to help out your fellow human... great design
I grew up two streets over from this guy in Glendale Az and remember the first chair he build for his wife. This man is awesome and I love what he does.
This is fantastic! Thank you for the video reporting, I hope for more fantastic spotlights in the future.
This reminds me of Johnny 5 from short circuit.
3:38 was a little creepy.
You and I have a lot in common, I give it away all the time, that warm humble feeling is what is called "To give is better than to receive" ! Keep doing the "right thing" it comes back at you 10 fold....
Thank you for your service and for helping others
I salute you
You're looking at a true American hero
This man is a real hero. The world needs more people like him and he is an example for everyone, he is so inspiring.
I tried joining the navy back in 1980 (I’m old) but had to many medical problems. Now at 64 I have a condition that is deteriorating my lower spine. I walk with a cane and one day (hopefully not soon) that won’t be enough.
I just hope when the time comes I might be able to get one of your tanks or maybe someone else’s design as I truly support entrepreneurs like yourself.
Thank you,
Joanna L
Is this the chair that only runs for a few minutes before overheating it's circuit board?
there needs to be more people like this man (Hero to disabled people)
daniel lyall I agree, I'm physically disabled myself
Wow! Much respect to u and ur team! That is one of the most inspiring things I have seen in a very long time. Thank you for your compassion!
you SIR are one of the people of WE THE PEOPLE that founded this great country, even though you were not borned in that time its the spirit of people like you that makes this country great. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we need more of this......job creation.
all these tankchairs are faulty! Check out this video explaining that all tankchairs need repair from faulty circuit board that frys out when too hot.
Check out what video?
deezynar how Comedy you are so defensive?
I love this dude, just shows you what determination will get you, more companies should be like this instead of just money being there drive, great job bro
You have a big heart and it shows in the work you do. You are a very humble person. People before profit is what this world needs.
Awesome guy and looks like a fantastic product. Brought a tear to my eye!
God keep blessing you with a giving heart.
My brother has CP and has been in a wheelchair since birth. My best friend became paraplegic 11 years ago in a car accident. I love what this dude is doing after watching how much someone in a wheelchair can suffer my whole life.
I'm sorry about the suffering of your loved ones.
Thank you sir. For your service today for veterans and civilians alike physical challenges.
Buyer beware.
I'm an old man now but I wish you could have helped me twenty five years ago. I had to give up everything I love because the wheelchair I can get won't even move in my stones in the driveway let alone take me in the woods hunting and fishing . God I miss what I grew up doing wasn't a day I wasn't doing one or the other. Even when I got married I timed it so I wouldn't miss hunting and fishing. We had it pretty good for 4 years my wife and I then in 1979 my world ended we lost everything to doctors and hospitals and debt over a million they took so much then finally stopped asking . We had two baby girls and me crippled my wife's a saint were still together it will be 42 years in April. But enough about my troubles I hope if you find another guy or girl who needs your machine thank you for inventing a real life saver . I don't know how I made it but I did even beat death in 2009 massive pulmonary embolism killed me but clot buster drug brought me back. So thank god I lived to see this and many more great things . I'm gran pop now no good but I can watch her till I'm gone no playtime but she knows pop pop stays in bed or wheelchair on the sidewalk . May God bless you with people who can afford your tank chairs. I can't but that's ok. With great respect to you I write this. Gary the Silverbullet
That's really sad. 😢
Simply fantastic. Absolutely fine craftsmanship and a really great guy. He can be proud for sure!
You are awesome dude, doing more for others and making those people with difficulty be able to enjoy life a lot more
You made such a great thing, God bless!
Too bad the majority of disabled people like me, will never have one of those, because we live on a very limited income, and have no possible way to purchase one. so I watched enough. they are nice. Yes I would love to have one. And it would major enhance my life, But, big problem. Can not afford one. so that is it. Nice equipment.
Never give up my friend there are a lot of charitable organizations around that may help you
THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO! !!!!
Yeah ... let's see those people at Walmart try and bully me now!
Needs refunds for when it breaks on a paralyzed person.
Thoughtful invention and I like how it opens up the field to do more .
kudos sir... your work completely moved me
Why not fix other customers chairs that you promised you fix
Do you have evidence to support you claim?
Tank Chairs don't work and break down. This dude is shady and ripping people off.
@Tim Nolan-----50K SUV's don't work and break down too so what's your point?
Not only is it poorly built, but the company is being shady and scummy about fixing it/returns.
Also they dont repair these chairs
I mean if this guy has no engineering degrees then that should be a red flag
