**Thank you for watching! We really like this apartment and find it to be suitable for our needs right now as we are travelling so much. It’s the perfect lock and leave apartment as it’s secure and the bikes are safe in the gated area with CC TV downstairs. We might move to a bigger place in future, but we will wait for the 100% perfect apartment/villa/house to come along!
**Just for a laugh, I’ve pre-prepared some negative comments so those who are feeling negative don’t have to go to the trouble of writing their own. Just comment the corresponding number from the list below! It has never been easier to flaunt your superiority and/or negativity! 😂😂😂
1. “You’re wasting money. You can rent an apartment for $50.” 😀
2. “You’re paying way too much/You’re being ripped off. I have seen much better apartments for $XX (insert stupidly low amount).” 😀
3. “You’re so tight/cheap/stingy. You should be paying way more and not living so cheaply.” 😀
4. “You’re taking housing stock away from Khmers,” or, “You expats are driving the prices up for locals.” I had a variation of this one recently. There is so much housing stock in Siem Reap that these are ridiculous statements. 😀
5. “I pay $XX (insert stupidly low amount) a month for electricity. You are stupid/soft/clueless/being ripped off.” 😀
Please take this in the fun spirit it was intended. We've done a fair few of these apartment tours in our time, and the negative comments always seem to be the same!
I hate to disappoint you, but I have nothing negative to say or even constructive criticism. The videos are informative. I'll be watching. 👍🇰🇭
@@whatsname2649 so pleased to hear it!
@@ForRiel 👍🇰🇭
Are you kidding?! These are an incredible service and you obviously put so much work into them so shame on the losers who criticize. They obviously are entitled, ungrateful brats.
That's not right! Stealing all the negative comments. Now what am I supposed to do, say something nice. You ruined my day! 😠
I'm a recently retired single man who I lost my wife 10 years ago.
I recently discovered your channel and I'm glad I did..
I am seriously tired of the political unrest and division going on in the USA and will be visiting Cambodia, and now Seim Reap, soon in hopes of retiring there and living out my life in peace.
I appreciate your time in doing those and the good works you're doing..
Regards.
Thanks so much! We are pleased you found us. Happy planning - Cambodia is such a great option for a peaceful retirement.
It's so nice to get a woman's view of Cambodia.
Thank you! There aren't many of us. Julia Haw is a friend and artist living in Siem Reap. She has a channel too. I think it's called Julia Haw.
I just want to enjoy my senior years.
Very cheap for $175 US a month for an apartment like that is a bargain. Great for a long term young travellers or retiree looking for somewhere more affordable this is it. Loved the apartment it looks neat & clean .
Lovely little apartment, you did very well for $175.00 a month
Thanks so much. We like it a lot!
It's a beautiful home. Not a big apartment but with high ceiling I think it's great! Lots of windows/ light, a super serene vibe and of course good parking space indoor too! That would be so much more convenient during rainy season. Overall a prefect home at a super attractive price 👍👍😀 thanks for sharing 😊❤🙏
There is certainly good value to be had in Siem Reap. Some of the landlords are still being a little unrealistic with their prices, particularly when brand new apartments in brand new buildings are coming onto the market all the time. Thanks so much for watching, and we're really pleased you like our little place!
Wow! I pay $1700 for one bedroom in Dallas TX
@@sethsath6506 > That's disgusting ! Bet it's not worth 10 times the price either ? My room mate & I pay $720 for a 2br in Lexington Ky.
i cant wait to go live there for like a year! Im from Seattle Washington and im paying $1850 for a very small 2 bedroom apartment. Cant wait until I leave the U.S and go live in Cambodia. That place is such a great deal for $175! People would kill for that over here! Enjoy and live it up!
Yeah, it's a bargain and leaves so much space to spend money on other things, like travelling! Thanks so much for watching.
Lucky you 1800 / month in Sydney for old run down apartament .
So perhaps time to leave Australia
,Rent hikes post Covid up to 30 % insane
I love how you split the living space into two areas, lounge and workspace, without it being 100% closed off. Very nice!
Thanks so much! It was a very functional space and served us well for several months.
This video gave me more ideas, more confidence about apt hunting. Thank you very much.
That's great, we are happy to hear it!
Neat, simple and low maintenance - can't go wrong! I especially like the patio door in the shower! Also loved the pre-emptive negative comments too 🤣🤣
Yeah you half expect the patio door to be followed by a sliding fly screen door just to enter the shower. I think we'll move to a bigger place at some stage; maybe when the perfect one comes along... Until then, this place will do just fine. Nobody played along and selected a negative comment number. So sad. 🤣
@@ForRiel I couldn't find my negative comment number there, so I must supply my own, to wit: #6 - "Kindly remove yourselves from my future apartment!" 🤣😂🤣😂😅 Just kidding of course. I really love your place though. I'm actually leaving the USA in two months time for the Philippines, but I am currently binge-watching your videos and have been a subscriber for a while. You and Jeremy (spelling) are making me rethink my retirement destination, although I originally thought Cambodia would be perfect for me. I might just go visit my friends in the Phils and then come to Cambodia for a nice long visit. Thank you both for all you do there, not only for us foreign guys and gals but also for your philanthropy. Love your wit and charm. And I get your jokes! 😁 God bless. But I will be watching you more closely from now on just to see when you are vacating my future apartment! 😂
Nice 👌 I like it , simple , fairly modern - Thanks for showing us 👋👌👍🙏
Thanks so much and glad you like it! 🎉🙏🎯
Thanks for sharing. An apartment like that would work perfectly for me once I arrive, very cozy!
Thanks for watching. It's a great space that works well for us right now.
A lot of space for 175! Thanks for sharing this!!
Yes, it was a great deal and suited us well at the time.
Thank you so much for giving us a tour of your home. It is lovely and neat and very affordable. I just learned of your channel from Taylor's latest video. Look frwd to learning about your life in Cambodia 😊
Oh, lovely! Thank you so much for joining us here. Prices and quality of life are very good in Siem Reap.
Your aparment with internet is less than my internet and cell phone. Time to make a change. Great video!
It's a really amazing apartment, must be the quietest place in Siem Reap but minutes to nice restaurants. 😀
Wow I really like it and very nice apartment.
They did a fun refresh when we left, only problem was the large window at the front.
I love these type of videos great apartment with a great value
Thanks so much! Very kind of you.
Thanks for the video I will be apartment hunting around end September beginning October. This was a great help. I want to be walking distance to town and around $150 per month.
That's possible but I would recommend getting a bike or Moto. This just adds to your enjoyment of the surrounding areas.
I love your thumbnails. They have so many different layers. ❤
You are too kind, Mr B!
Wow, Awsome, great value. You guys are truly inspirational. Retirement just got a little closer 😍
Thanks so much, Darren! There's room in Cambodia for you when you're ready. 🏡💰🍺🎯🙏🎉😁
We (myself and my Khmer wife) are looking to move back to Cambodia 🇰🇭 too. The pleasure of these small things that For Riel shows is the “bees knees”.

Wow Amazing! Imagine how much that Cost of Rent would help the Homeless people in America!
Yes, it would allow a lot of people to live with dignity. It's a similar situation in Australia and very sad.

Just road around Cambodia for a month. It was exactly what I expected. Miles of dirt roads and dust. Loved it. People are nice. Super cheap and safe. Good country. I'll never return.
That would have been fantastic! It's great to get off the beaten track here.
Thorough and helpful, especially about the strategy for a small space for keeping costs down regarding AC
It's all about keeping cool 😎. Will have a new Vlog out soon about ways to keep cool in Cambodia 🇰🇭
Fantastic! Looks like a great deal & you have done a great job arranging everything. Enjoy SR!
Thanks so much! It has everything we need and nothing extra. We love the location, too!
Less than 6 bucks a day! Proper 1 br, spacious enough, washer, great value apt for sure! And as you say, perfect home base for travelling. Btw, the pre-set comments LOL!
We have been travelling so much lately and feel completely at ease locking the door and leaving. The more you are paying, the more difficult it is to justify leaving for long stretches of time. Haha glad you liked the comments - people always have the same issues, basically either we're paying too much, or we're not paying enough! Hope you are going well!
Claire, can you tell the area where is that appartment ? Wat bo ? Damnak ? Sok San Rd ? . . .
and con you please say where you got Bamboo shelves and tables ?
Thanks a lot.
You both really do a great job i
Sure, the apartment is just off Taphul Road two doors from Smiley Guesthouse (find them on Google Maps). It's a great location. Bamboo shelves are best on the River Road just north of Jaya House River Park. The shop is called Sophanith Furniture Shop. He will give you the best price straight up, no need to haggle. Tables from Furniture Den on BBU Road.
I like this apartment very much. I find your videos informative and inspiring. Perhaps I will see you around Siem Reap in about a year when my work contract in Vietnam expires.
We enjoyed our stay there, but we've now moved to a bigger place. There is good value to be had right now.
Are pets usually accepted? I would like to get a small dog.
Enjoying your clips. Do you speak Cambodian ?
Thanks, unfortunately only a very small amount. We are going to get some classes when we get back from Australia.
Nice apartment. Would certainly be looking for something similar when I move there, and great price.😊
Yes, it has an amazing location, and the fact that it has a washing machine was a real bonus for us. I hope you find something that suits your needs.
What area in Siem Reap. How do you find general noise levels.Dogs, ect
Really nice and neat! Thank you for the tour.
Thanks so much, John. Much appreciated.
Rewatching older vids and this is such a lovely apartment... just big enough with a great little patio. :) For the price it's pretty incredible! Is it in Wat Bo neighbourhood? Thanks again, Claire!
Thank you, it was a good apartment that served us well. We have moved on and are now living in a different area. The apartment is just behind Taphul Road - here's a pin: goo.gl/maps/CbFBMgLC8UG94ZRJA
@@ForRiel Thanks for the location - I enjoyed your restaurant recommendations for Taphul Road so this is fodder for the future. I do wish that Street View would update Cambodia... everything is now 10 years old! :)
Hey that bed is awesome :)
Yeah, I'm still not sure if I loved it or hated it.
Thanks for the tour. We're hoping to find something comparable when we return to Phnom Penh at the end of August. Your place is perfect for us, just not in the right town. Appreciate all of your videos. 😊
There's a lot of stock in Phnom Penh, but it's more expensive. It matters a lot more which area you choose to rent because that will determine where you spend most of your time. Thank you for watching!
@@ForRielthanks
Hi Claire, whete did you get the little bamboo shelves from? They're so cute. I've been scouring siem Reap all week looking for some like this.
Just across the river from us

@ForRiel thank you so much, had a little adventure, ended up in the wrong place, then the right place, was informedvtheir not bamboo (or wicca) but ratan, then visited the owners other store (much bigger, noidea where it is, I just told him to tell tuk tuk driver) then an interesting game of high speed, tuk tuk, rattan shelf jenga
im all about the Dracula bed frame! its fancy and traditional. I would put the other matching shelf instead of the chair on the other side but mb thats my ocd haha
Yeah the bed has grown on me these last four months. I'm trying to cure my OCD, so am forcing myself to look at the mismatch every day. 🤣
Hi Claire and Jeremy. I didn’t have a TV in my apartment when I was there, and never bought one. Never watched TV when I was in Cambodia.
But I’m curious what channels you get, and what programming there is on TV there. I might decide to have TV when I come back.
Thank you both….take care. 🙏🏼 🌴 ☸️ 🇰🇭 ✈️ 🙂
Hi Robert, we only use the TV to cast RUclips. I have no idea what channels, if any, we could get on it! We consume a lot of RUclips! 🍺🎯🎉🙏😁
Great video. Which neighbourhood are you located in? Also, you don't have a separate electric water heater in the shower or the apartments somewhere else?
It's just near Taphul Road next to Smiley Guesthouse. We have moved to a different place now, so I can be a bit more open about the location. There is a water heater for the shower but it is hidden in the ceiling. Thanks for watching.
ahhh, i so miss the bum gun !!! haha. "the poor mans bidet" thx for the memories...
It's a beautiful thing to have a power cleaned butt 😌 😍...
GREAT INFORMATION!
DID YOU USE REAL ESTATE AGENT TO FIND THIS APARTMENT ?
HOW MUCH WAS COMMISSION ?
WHO PAID REAL ESTATE COMMISSION ?
HOW MANY MONTHS DEPOSIT
We used IPS. The owner pays the commission. One month's deposit.
Well done Claire, another great vlog . I have not been to Siem reap yet But I'm sure that I will be there sometime soon. One thing that I like is Jeremy's negotiating skills. Take care and keep enjoying life's little challenger's.
Thanks so much for watching. I am sure you will love it when you eventually visit. It's a great place.
Great apartment! And great tour! Krud hat takes pride of place 😅
🤣🤣 Krud is pride of place, where it belongs! Thanks for watching.
Love the video.
So glad!
Very interesting to see. I like the use of dark wood which seems to be common in many SR apts. May I ask what camera/phone you used? With or without a gimble?
- Thanks.
The dark wood is traditional and a symbol of wealth in these parts. It's old growth wood, so that aspect of it is not so good. For this video, I used our DJI Pocjet 2. It has a built-in gimbal. You can see it when I'm showing the bathroom. Thank you for watching!
@@ForRiel That's very interesting. Thanks. I just looked up the DJI Pocket 2. Would you say you are completely happy with it? Have you tried the 4k/60fps?
No more questions, I promise 😁
Preferred the Pocket 1. They made some changes to the P2 that, in our opinion, are negatives. If you are talking, the Pockets are great at capturing sound. The GoPro has a nicer picture but the backward facing sound is awful. Neither is perfect. We mix and match depending on the situation.

@@ForRiel thanks guys u are the best
Damn good apartment for the price. Did you have to put down a deposit? How did you find it? Don't worry about stains on the walls. You're renting, not buying. You'll have enough headaches when you own your own place. This place is temporary. 👍🇰🇭🏰
Yes, it's good value compared to many we have seen. We paid a month deposit and a month in advance on moving in. That's standard, although some places try for a 2 month deposit. I wouldn't stay in a place that wanted 2 months. I'm ok with the stains but they bothered me the first week or two. Thanks for watching!
@@ForRiel 👍🇰🇭
That really looks great for the money. I would probably try to upgrade a little but that's just spoiled old me.
We lived there for six months at a time when we were doing a lot of travel outside Cambodia. It was the perfect base but a little small for two people. We live in a house now. Thanks for watching.
That is a beautiful apartment for a great price. What is required for such apartments there? Is there short term lease or only long term? How did you find the apartment? Was it through a realtor or sign on door?
Facebook pages are the best. You just look at them pick what you like and contact the realtor. Go and see it and work out a price and rental period, 3, 6 or a year contact.
@@ForRiel Thank you!!
Good morning, curious again about the charity event today, when and where on the river? Fell out of the brain, lol
Hi David, it's at the FCC, 2 - 7pm.
Ok, all I come up with on the internet is a hotel by the Royal residence
I used to watch your videos in Kampot , are you staying in Siem Reap now?
Thank you Thyda! Yes, we are in Siem Reap now. I hope you are well.
@@ForRiel Is it ok if one day if we go to Siem Reap we visit you ?
Nice Apartment Tour! Question do the apartments come with appliances and furniture , or do you need to purchase them separately?
Thanks for watching. Apartments are always furnished. They usually have a new set of sheets on the bed, and appliances like the fridge and washing machine are included. Some have a microwave and a rice cooker, even crockery and cutlery. It depends on the place.
Thank you for letting us look into your home. Would you mind sharing why you both wanted to move to the different areas? What was the main decision to check out where you are now?
We moved as we needed a bigger space to settle down, and make it a long term home.
I appreciate your reply, are the leases month to month or does it depend on where you live/ situation with each landlord. Could you point to where an expat could start for looking over there for rentals? 😊
Hard to believe that was a year ago already😅
Nice apt are you guys still there?
We remember viewing this apartment when we were hunting for a home and the bed was crazy to open the door and see. Thanks for the second tour :)
The bed makes me smile, I like that the landlady probably chose it because it looks like that solid wooden furniture they prize so highly here. It is outrageous though. 🤣🤣🤣
My taste must be a little "out there" but I gasped when I saw the bed, but it was because I loved it! 😂 13:13 I really get the Asian feel from it & that is absolutely my favorite decor.
I'm a new subscriber & am just considering spending some time in a SE Asian country. I have to be very budget conscious, so Cambodia seems to be a place that would definitely work for me. Thank you for all your hard work creating these videos & sharing such great knowledge! ❤
Great choice guys. Sooooo cheap. Parking under cover. Wi-fi. Love the work space with the window. Living area a little tight but bright with a useable outside area that has a neat aspect. $190 with power. Per month! Gotta love Cambodia.
About $240 USD a month all in, so not too bad at all. The living area can be a bit tight but we've learnt to live with it. We've been in and out of the country so much that the low price really appeals to us. We might move in future but it's perfect for now. Thanks so much for watching!
Lovely apartment thanks for sharing,,,peace and happiness and today is my birthday,,,
Happiest of birthdays to you! Thank you so much for watching.
Comfortable, modern apt, and lovely video! Well done.
Just a small suggestion: at 0:26 you mention your electricity charge per kilowat hr (maybe that's interesting to fellow Aussies or Kiwis?), but it was only at the video's end that you said you pay about $ 60 / mth for electricity.
So, a summary:
Apt rent: $ 175
Electricity 60
Water ($3-4) 4
WiFi (good!) 0
TOTAL $ 239
= excellent! Very informative & encouraging...I'm considering semi-retiring in Cambodia 🇰🇭 (I'd need to supplement a small pension; eg. by teaching ESL online).
Many thx...& blessings!
Yes, it's incredibly good value living here, and the apartment in this video was very inexpensive. We've since moved out, but it served us well while we were there.
Nice place Clair and looks like your enjoying it there ? -- Being old and ''frugal'' by myself it would be too much for my comfort. A small studio perhaps half that size or even a little less - would be enough for just me. Cheap to cool & easy to clean. -- Maybe even a cheaper rent price ? Location near a lot of good reasonably priced food would be ideal. -- Good job illustrating the video making it quite enjoyable !
You'll have no trouble finding something that fits those requirements. If you aren't fussy about a pool, there will be plenty of options for well-located studios with air con around the $100 mark.
@@ForRiel> Thank you for responding. Curious if any English speaking Dr.'s and a Cardiologist that speaks it are there ? Hospitals any language issue ? Will need health insurance too ? What / where do expats go / do ? Bases covered I presume ?
Looks like a perfect place for a couple. My wife loved Siem Reap. Our little apartment was $189, but I like yours more.
We will be back very soon. Amazing country and people.
Wanted to add, we spent Christmas and New Years 2023 there. New Years in the park was super exciting and busy... LOVED IT!
We enjoyed living there but we've moved on and live in a villa now! Great to hear that you had such a great time in Siem Reap.
Well done on all the charity work you do. How would I find an apartment like this in Cambodia - a local agent? I was in PP during Covid and I found AirBNB just offered overpriced places.
Best way is to join cheap apartments Siem Reap on Facebook. Look for what you want and Contact the agent. They will contact you and ask you what you are looking for, then they will show you several properties. Almost every property is listed with multiple people.
I don't recommend walking around looking for a place without a agent as they will help you of anything needs doing.
If you purchase furniture items, can most stores deliver or do you arrange delivery?
Absolutely. And they usually deliver immediately.
Wow very good one. By the way do you know in Cambodia is there Couserfing place?. ^_^
Thank you! I don't think so because visitors would have to be correctly registered, and to do that, I think you'd have to be set up as an accommodation provider.
Thank u so much, I don't know much about that service, but my friend from French they said Couserfing is a favourite one for European especially francophone country. I think maybe Cambodia will have it later. ;)
@lomor2n
Do you mean couchsurfing?
Where you stay free in someone's apt (maybe sleeping on their couch)? And offer others the same in your apt.
@@adad1270 ^_^ yes I mean that couchsurfing, but I don't know this point is there in Cambodia or not.

The plants make it really lovely.
Thank you, they really help make it feel homely.
Nice appartment and a good deal ! Don't you have mosquitos/bugs issues considering it is not on a high floor ?
Not really. There are mosquitos around but we try to keep the screens shut at dusk and dawn when they are most active. You just learn to deal with them, I think.
Hi Claire - great video thx! would you please do a video on those with a $1000+ per month budget - I'd be interested to see what sort of 'large/country house' i could get..I'm not into glitz/bling...happy to donate :) Coming to SR in October - introducing my daughter to the country as a volunteer and I'm going to scope out a retirement visa
It's interesting as you tend to just get bigger places the more you pay. I've seen small hotels and guesthouses for that price. There are some very lovely properties around, and for that money you'd be looking at a very nice standard with a private pool. 😀
@@ForRiel Thanks !
Plane tickets sure have gone up. I just priced out a 1 way ticket to Bangkok from the U.S.A. 7 months in advance and they want $1400. The roundtrip ticket is $2300. Crazy times we are living in. Friends from the Philippines said they are going to be holding out, before visiting family in the U.S.A.
Yes, prices are still high compared to pre-covid. They can only come down as time passes, but it's a one-time expense so I wouldn't let it stop me if I was ready to move here.

Thanks fore sharing your perspective Claire.
Siem Reap is on my
short list of places to investigate further.
What is the tempurature at night in July, 95 degrees?
What is the crime rate?
Are Digital Nomads from America viewed positively?
Do you need to speak the local language to get by for 8 weeks?
Thanks so much for watching! Glad you found it useful. I am not sure of the temps exactly, but in July it is wet season, and probably around 25 (c) at night. Cambodia generally, and Siem Reap specifically, are very laid back places. Locals are curious about what you might be doing in terms of working, but that's about as far as it goes. There is no judgement that I have experienced. I made a video about safety in Cambodia if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/XhSdTuDBA-k/видео.html
My one bedroom in Dallas TX doesn't come furnished and it is $1700. In America when you move into an apt, you have to buy everything or bring ur old stuff w you
Apartments are usually fully furnished, washing machines are sometimes shared.
@@ForRiel ❤
Claire, The rent. Is AUD or USD? The apartment is lovely. I have been to Siem Reap. Love the place and the Cambodian people.
I am a Kiwi living in Surin just over the border from you in Thailand. About 3 hours drive.
Great videos and very informative.
All the best to you both.
Thanks so much for watching. All prices in USD because that's how things are charged here. It was a great deal for an apartment in a great location with really good inclusions like the washing machine. I hope Thailand is treating you well!
Excellent video and it would be really awesome for just one person.
But how exactly did you find a place this cheap and was there a deposit and minimum lease time ? Thanks
There are a lot of Siem Reap real estate groups on Facebook. It's a great place to start! Deposit is one month’s rent. Lease length is negotiable.
How is the contract set up, if there is any? Minimum period of time, open end or fixed period? Do they take a deposit?
Yes, there is a contract that contains the details and passport numbers, etc. Standard is a one month deposit and the first month in advance,so effectively you need 2 months' rent to move in.
I have lost count of how any residences you have had since arriving in Cambodia. I'm curious to see your journey from that perspective.
I surmise you were entranced by Kampot but Siem Reap is more economically viable for working age folks.
Regardless as to the reasons the result is you two have lived in a number of rentals in two towns over the past couple of years. With each introduction of a new residence there has been thoughts on how and what to look for in apartments, I'm sure this was hard earned info. My thought, question, or suggestion is to make a deep dive video about your renting experience and learning curve. I imagine your audience will thank you... until I move to the kingdom in December I am fixated on where I will live and 'budgets'.
Hi Carl, you're right - we definitely move around a lot. It's not something that's new to Cambodia, though. We have always been like that even in Australia. We actually keep a Google Doc where we list all of the places we have lived at we're at number 24 right now. Moving is a fun adventure and although the packing up isn't fun, experiencing a new place is. I think your idea of making a video about renting and our experience of it would be good. Thank you for the suggestion. Thanks so much for watching and supporting us.
@@ForRiel I've pondered 24 moves for a day or so for a couple as young as you two. Having moved a lot I assumed I'd be in our neighborhood. This morning I counted... I'm 70 years old. In my adult life I have moved 18 times including 9 US states, Saudi Arabia and Thailand. By the time you two are my age you'll be on move #64 and will have lived on the moon!
I’ve seen many apartments in Siem reap now, and never see ones this big for 175 dollars.
These apartments are being advertised for $220 or so - just be sure to bargain. I hope you find something!
Hi Claire, my name is Joe and I want to come over to Cambodia to Teach English. I have a TEFL qualification which I obtained in Australia. I am English or as the Aussies say a whinging Pom, it’s not whinging it’s constructive criticism 🤣🤣🤣 Should I just get over to Cambodia and look for schools ?? I’m thinking of coming over to Cambodia in January, I will be on my own soon extra baggage to look after.
Thanks Claire.
If you could give me any tips I would really appreciate that.
Why not send some emails out and see if you get any responses? Look around on some school websites and see if they are advertising for staff as this might give you a feel for the market. It's also fine to come over and do your job hunting in person.
Thanks Claire.
Hi Claire. Just a quick one re: water pressure. Out of the places you stayed out (hotels) and lived in (apartments) in Siem Reap, how would you describe the shower experience? Thanks.
Some better than others. I find the water in Siem Reap to be very hard. Pressure is hit and miss, some good, some not good.
Great vid, thank you. Just curious. How much would it cost for a 2 bedroom apartment similar condition like yours. Thank you 😊
We have seen decent 2 bedroom places starting at $250. Have a look on Facebook Marketplace, just set your location to Siem Reap. Thanks for watching!
@@ForRiel thank you. That gives us a good indication to bench mark. My husband and I are from Australia too and currently living in Seoul, South Korea and we are also exploring to come and live in SEA so your channel and likes are very much appreciated. I especially like the way you provide information in different category. We saw you and your husband being interviewed by Tyler in Malaysia consequently arrived to your channel :-)
The strong solid bed is some sort of power from Feng Sui perspective…I think?
In that case I will sleep well and think nice thoughts about the bed! Thank you for letting me know. :)
wow thats crazy cost for electricity. I use 1800kwh a month here in miami. that would be 450$/mo in electricity there!!! that means getting a solar roof would pay for itself in 2yrs
Yes, electricity is the one thing that is more expensive here. You have to be really careful with air con as you can end up with a very big bill.
How could you not like that bed. Sick!
Classy AF
I think the bed is great!
Hi from Melbourne. Just checking the costs are in US Dollars or Australian Dollars
We always use USD in our videos as that's how apartments are priced here. Thank you for watching. Sorry about your weather. :(
Great video. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Sweet pad, more than enough.
Cheers, we are happy here, and it suits our needs right now.
Nice apartment and great value. I love cats as well.
Thanks so much! It's a good fit for us right now as we're in and out of Cambodia a lot. Don't feel bad leaving at such a low price.
Nice place for under $200, better than over here in the States for $1000.
Yes, the value for money is very high in Siem Reap. There are a lot of apartments available right now.
Another enjoyable video for my Sunday morning coffee. Thanks again Claire! I am curious how you pay your bills? Is it online, phone or do you receive a paper bill somehow and have to pay it at some location?
There is a single bill for water and another for electricity that cover the whole building. Every month, when the rent is due, we take a photo of the two metres, work out the cost, then pay the total amount to the landlord via ABA transfer. The metres are individual. We send her the metre photos as well.
@@ForRiel Thanks for the reply! That's an interesting way of doing things, but heck, it works, right?
Sure does! It's good because the landlord, who is actually a landlady 🤣, doesn't live on site.
Very nice.. are you still at this apartment?
No, we moved into a villa nearly a month ago. It's our first time in a stand-alone place, but we are loving it.
where is it and what is the apartment block name?
I don't know that it has a name, and we didn't include the location when we made this video because we were still living there. If you google Smiley Guesthouse, it's two doors down from there.
Very nice. It's hard to believe that this apartment is only175 dollars a month.
It's crazy cheap and for that price, the standard is quite good, too.
25¢ per kw but what does usually come to total after a month? Thanks
It's heavily dependent on your aircon use. Ours is usually around $60 USD.
You’re allowed to keep your shoes in the common area?
We had a shoe rack out side the apartment and on one seemed to care.
sorry for confusion. All I wanted to know is, have they stopped accepting one doller american paper dollars in cambodian bars and restaurants, as some bloggers have stated.
Yes, you'll have a hard time getting rid of them now.
Hi Claire , is it possible to Rent an Apartment Monthly ? Or for 2or 3 Months .?
Yes, plenty of places will allow you to rent monthly. The price will be a bit higher and not all landlords will allow it, but not hard to find.
@@ForRiel Hi , Thank you for your speedy Reply Claire !!!
Absolutely beautiful thank you for sharing. Are there any other apartments like that available? I’m coming July 9 and need to find an apartment
Thanks so much! There was another one advertised but it is at the back of the building and doesn't have a balcony.
I have approx 800us dollars I changed about 8 years ago, all in perfect condition, somebody told me they will not be accepted in cambodia now, as they are too small , is this true.I was thinking of going to phnom penh, over christmas.
I'm still a bit confused why and where the $800 is located.
My math’s says $370 AUD a month, rent , electricity. Water , excellent,
Claire question please remind me , Cambodian, power points , can I just insert my two prong Australian plug , as I do in Thailand?
Peter Mackay QLD ,
Yeah, $240 USD, so about $365 AU. Not too bad at all and we have 5G too. Power points here are 2 prong and they take round, vertical flat or angled flat (like AU). Sometimes you have to give it a bit of a shove to get it in, but if you can, it will work. Thanks for watching!
Would you say electricity is reliable?
Yes, there are outages now and then, but they are usually very short.
