    Thanks for this, it was a big help!
    I used this speaker from Parts Express, Dayton Audio - SD215A-88 8" DVC Subwoofer. It is shallower than the OEM but has a larger diameter magnet and fits perfectly depth wise on my 2004. I did need to cut back were the mounting holes on the bracket were about 1/8in and add new foam strip between the spacer. Just remember to weir this for 16Ohm unless you are also replacing the amp. The audio sounds completely different now. I don't think the sub ever worked since I owned the car.

    I replaced mine with the same speaker and 2 weeks in it blew my amp. so now I dont have a choice but to do a full amp replacement and probably the stereo too. yeah it would have been cheaper to just pay the 380.00 for the original one and called it a day.

    What's the mounting depth of that sub area?

      Hi Cal,
      It is an Alpine SWG-844 I installed. I have not had any issues whatsoever, been on a few long runs with the music playing and it has all worked perfectly.#
      Thanks,
      Ross

    It's not going to work. Not the right ohms. Mine didn't work.

      It does work, worked for months without issues prior to selling the car.

    Why would you put in a non matched impedance speaker ? ..................... just put in an 8 ohm one so you dont overdrive the amplifier ! ........... the mind boggles how you do this and make it sound as if its good practice !

    • @BlackbeardsDetailing
      @BlackbeardsDetailing  2 года назад +1

      If you watched the full vlog you would also hear that the entire system was being changed, including the amplifier so why would I put in a speaker to match the ML amp?

      @@BlackbeardsDetailing You stated later you sold the car ..presumably with the impedance mismatch still in place . Obviously you can do as you wish ,but as an electronic engineer , I think it is not a good idea to post this as if its good practice .

      @@nickloughrey9841 @Nick Loughrey yes the car was sold and the new owner knew.
      With fitting this subwoofer the speaker output voltage significantly falls (having an effect on the tone) however the flowing current only marginally increases. This won't significantly overdrive the amplifier unless ran at full volume for a prolonged period of time, but as an electrical engineer you'll know this.
      At no point did I say that it's best practice, I did point out the potential issues and again pointed out that (should I have kept the car) the entire sound system was being upgraded.
