Hey there, Did you work at Wendy's when they made the spicy chicken fillets in house? If so, how did they do it? I can never seem to get it spicy enough when I make it at home.
I worked at Wendy's in the early 80s. The chicken was great then. We had just regular chicken breasts that we breaded like you would at home, right before they went into the fryer. Then they started making all these cost cuts and the chicken was the first to go. Started getting pre-breaded frozen stuff that wasn't even close to the original.
I remember this. Wendy’s was my first job in high school. Yeah, frozen chicken just doesn’t compare. Shortly after Dave Thomas died, things really went downhill fast. Haven’t eaten there since.
I’d be interested in seeing some videos in a “But Faster” series. Show us how to make quick meals at home faster than you could by driving out to a restaurant, ordering, and returning.
I remember Wendy’s being one of the first places that had a spicy chicken sandwich and that was 15 years maybe more than that. McDonalds also used to have one many years ago. What I liked about those ones is that the spice is in the breading and not just a sauce like it is now at McDonald’s Burger King Chick-fil-A etc. But Wendy’s fries are amazing as well
josh i’m glad wendy’s stood out against all the other sandwiches because wendy’s is the best fast food chain out there. that tropical berry lemonade SLAPS.

Living in the UK, we don’t have Wendy’s here, but I got to try one when I was out in the states a few years ago. I’m a sucker for fried chicken! Can’t wait to try this. Thanks 🙏

You see Josh I like this series. Its nice to see how we can make this so easily at home. However I'm not going out of my way to make something like this when I'm either running late somewhere and want something quick or just straight up lazy.
Looks amazing! The one thing Wendy’s does have on this chicken sandwich… You can just go get it on a whim. You have to plan to have a chicken sandwich sometime in the future if you’re going to make this recipe. And it’s not exactly quick.
It's true, but if a person were so inclined they could make the buns and have them ready for a week, you could make the aioli and that should be good for a week (I think?? I don't know how long it would last), then just make the chicken in real time when you want it. you could skip the marinade since it's going to have a sauce anyway. if you had the chicken ready to cook, start to finish in 20-30 minutes maybe? a lot of work and forward planning, but still better and overall cheaper than 2 sandos for 12$ then you'd have buns and aioli for other dishes - burgers or just a few more chicken sandwiches.
What surprises me is that Josh actually says that the Wendy's chicken sandwich is one of the better fast food ones he's had. I mean, that's pretty high praise.
For those that want to dial this down in spice level, skip the coating in oil+spices step and toast your buns using a chipotle/siracha/hotsauce of your choice mixed with mayo instead of the butter and it will still be fantastic. Nice work Josh. I do think the hot oil pushes this into Nashville hot chicken territory though, as opposed to the spicy coating on the Wendy's version.
Is there anyway for you to cut the spice out completely? I plan to make a bunch of these for my family for dinner but a few of my family members cant stand spice
I really enjoy these videos! but I would like to ask, how much did you spend for the ingredients.. not just for this but also the other.. I know that sometimes the price increase is subtle but still I think it is interesting!
Wendy's is just terrible tbh. Pretty sure their tweets are the only things keeping them in business. Burgers always dry, fries always soggy and tasteless, always getting orders wrong. Just a sad place, easy to beat.

I agree completely. Josh has some skills. But this is not even a comparison of chicken sandwiches. I was excited for this one because i used to eat spicy chickens from Wendy’s all the time. But. I thought he was going to get the seasoning blend and elevate the sandwich. Not make a completely different sandwich and say his is better.
I feel like "But Better" should actually encompass making an upgraded version of something that's generally the same. This is literally a completely different type of chicken sandwich, it feels more like a "Josh's Chicken Sandwich Recipe" video than a food item based off of Wendy's
The amount of people taking this as seriously as they are is just hilarious to see. This entertainment in the comments is like the dessert after the main course
Everyone knows that the BK Ch'King sandwich is best of the fast-food world so far.. its nothing short of incredible as far as fast food goes.. and honestly its better than anything I can make so far
Of coarse you’re going to say your food is better than the other competition you should get other people to rate your food it’s fucking annoying when you say you did better than a fast food place.
Look I’m a fan. But that’s not “but better”. That’s “ something different”. Why not make the same thing with the same base ingredients. Making it a Nashville is a completely different sandwich. This and the Cinnabon are bad examples.
I personally love how Josh notes on the bag that it says hot and fresh, and then he's surprised when he cuts into the sandwich she goes "ooh that's hot"... Promise made, promise kept by the bag

Josh could you make a "but healthier" series where you make macro-friendly versions of popular fast foods items. This would be really helpful.
Love, love, love this video!!!! 🤩🤩🙏🏻
I was just thinking about this the other day, glad you actually did it
I feel like "But Better" should actually encompass making an upgraded version of something that's generally the same.
The ratings are kind of biased towards this one location. Just because this Wendy’s is haunted by the girl from The Grudge doesn’t mean they all are.
Man when I want a new recipe for something I just look up josh 😂😂
Everyone knows that the BK Ch'King sandwich is best of the fast-food world so far.. its nothing short of incredible as far as fast food goes.. and honestly its better than anything I can make so far
I came everywhere .
Wow so you can make a better chicken sandwich than a minimum wage high schooler, great work
okay cool now try making a million of these per second
Man made a chicken sandwich and you found a way to dickride a multi million dollar franchise
“Wow these minimum wage employees did a bad job. I’m gonna do it better!”
What is this guys problem?
Next vid idea is cosmic brownie but better. Love the vids keep up the good work.
Always success, bro, easy sustenance, always healthy
Wow, these minimum wage fast food workers did such a bad job! I'm gonna cook it BETTER!
Nobody makes minimum wage
What a lame comment, they follow a recipe.. hes just one upping the wendys recipe
@@sourdough9052 what a lame answer
Im so not a fan of wendy’s ….. but this looks delicious
To be fair, wendy's has had a spicy chicken sandwich for decades.
The Wendy's sign/Wendy face segment sent me into uncontrollable laughter for 5 min. You just can't make it up😂😂
He made a holy godly chicken sandwich and made it 100% better in looks feeling smeel and taste respect!
he cooks a burger hell of a lot expensive than wendy's
fair although its "but better" not "but cheaper" lol
Of coarse you’re going to say your food is better than the other competition you should get other people to rate your food it’s fucking annoying when you say you did better than a fast food place.
Look I’m a fan. But that’s not “but better”. That’s “ something different”. Why not make the same thing with the same base ingredients. Making it a Nashville is a completely different sandwich. This and the Cinnabon are bad examples.
I LOVE THAT INTRO!!!
watched this video completely thru and decided that I would go into my kitchen for a change. you really inspired me to make my own food
We need cordon bleu and a shout of because of the level of commitment ive shown posting on all your videos
10:26 when your so tired of cooking.
I love how he always opens the cabinet talking like we’re shut in there just waiting for him to come back for another one🤣🤣🤣
I had a spicy chicken from Wendy's yesterday added cheese and onions; it is the best standing chicken sandwich today
