The whole Hans subplot in Frozen is the most half-baked villainy. They already had a great story with two mutually antagonistic protagonists. They didn't need a villain, but Disney can't stand not having that trope.
True. Hans felt like a twist for the sake of a twist. It's also a sign that the movie originally had Elsa be the primary antagonistic force, but they had to force a third act twist in because they changed Elsa halfway through
John Cena's acting ability is really hampered by his invisibility. Yeah, they CGI him back in Post, but it's really hard to get the micro-expressions right.
Maui's character design was originally bald - modeled after The Rock. Their cultural advisor pointed out that the hair is representative of an individual's mana. So Maui got hair.... that greatly resembles the hair of an advisor.
Live Action Mulan can't legitimately hide behind the "authenticity" badge. Xiran Jay Zhou, a Chinese American writer who grew up in China, basically became an overnight RUclipsr with a brutal review of the film and it's many inaccuracies. Not just in physical detail, but key aspects of the plot that make no sense from a Chinese perspective. One key point is the whole idea of witches=bad is a very Western mindset, in Ancient China it wouldn't have been something to ostracize a woman for. This is particularly egregious since it could have been easily fixed since magical animals wanting to be human *is* a major theme in Ancient Chinese dramas. There are a number of accounts of magical beasts who could turn into people, and almost always depicted in a negative or downright villainous manner.
Alan Tudyk is to Disney Animation Studios as John Ratzenberger is to Pixar. Alan Tudyk has been in every Disney Animation Studios movie since 2012. John Ratzenberger was in every Pixar movie from Toy Story (1995) to Onward (2020.)
26:09 - that reminds me of an idea I had a while back for a new Resident Evil game; have it set in Neo/New Racoon City, which has been built on the ruins of the original Racoon City from RE2 and 3, and the rebuilding efforts having been bankrolled by a mega-Corp called Parasol. Then when everything is going to shit and it gets revealed that Parasol is just a rebranded Umbrella or subsidiary of Umbrella that broke away after all Umbrella’s shady dealings got revealed, an NPC would react shocked by the news and then Leon, Jill and/or Chris just turn to the NPC with a look of utter exasperation at how dense the NPC has been and go “Really? You didn’t clock that a company called _Parasol_ could have anything to do with one called _Umbrella_ ? For Christ’s sake, their logo is even just a palette swap of Umbrella’s that’s been rotated a little bit.”
31:44 - following this logic, presumably the reason Princess Leia isn’t a Disney Princess is because of the one time she wore a gold bikini. Never mind that she only wore it against her will, or that she killed a major villain while she did so, it’s just too slutty an outfit for someone under the Disney Princess brand to ever have worn (despite Jasmin’s default outfit being only slightly less revealing/stereotypically ‘sexy’). 😜
The Moana name change for foreign markets reminded me of Count Dooku from _Star Wars_ having his name changed in Japan, because apparently "Dooku" means something bad in Japanese (I can't recall what).
Not the first time for Disney. Toy Story 2 started out as Direct to Video and it was bumped to a theatrical release... Regarding the Disney head urban legend - I have a friend who's a senior HVAC tech at one of the Disney Resorts. There is 3 reasons. 1. They're still new enough to stand on their own. 2. They're colours clash with the line up. 3.the most important to Disney line up... They're not princesses to a matching prince.
6:00 Consider that Sonic Team inserts memes into the things they make, and encourage the fanbase, I can imagine Sonic x Shadow is done to encourage the horny, rather than distract from it. Sonic doing the Family Guy Death Pose in "Murder of Sonic" is enough to convince me that Sonic Team is filled with shitposters.
Elsa and Anna aren't part of the Disney Princess brand because the Frozen brand is so big and profitable that Disney makes more money off of them being their own separate brand than if they were part of the Princess brand proper.
Disney is making cheap TV sequel movies. David Tennant is playing the Doctor. Jon Stuart is hosting the Daily Show. Avatar is topical. Both of them. Time is an illusion. Everything is meaningless. Damn it, Loki WHAT DID YOU DO?!
I always heard frozen Was and is so financially lucrative the merging it with disney princess brand would make the company look worse on paper vs having 2 separate incomes
I feel like the whole disney princess thing has to do with likeness rights and party rentals, things like that. Obviously, that's not a huge thing, but I've known a few college women who did the disney Princess Party scene and I know they pay rentals on their clothes to cover fees
Disney princesses fighting crime sounds interesting but you know what would rule? DISNEY PRINCESS AVENGERS! Elsa has an ice powers, Moana controls water, Snowwhite talks to animals, bunch of the others are accomplished fighters. It just writes itself.
He's in the room still but on multiple occasions he stole the autofocus from my camera and it made for awkward edits, he had to join the sidelines 😭😭😭 - Lucas
33:36 - you could go a step further; why limit it to just female characters? They could also use it to empower boys who don’t fit into the rugged manly man of manliness mould and who are gentler natured and get derided by bigots as ‘sissies’ and ‘not-real men’. Doesn’t necessarily have to be explicitly the Disney Princess brand, just an associated one. Similarly, they could probably do a brand for girls that don’t fit the girly stereotype; they could move more tomboyish Disney Princesses/Princess Candidates such as Mulan into that brand
I thought the real requirement for being a Disney princess was merch sales. With the main exception being the frozen character that out perform the Disney princess line. So to get into the club you need to be in that Goldilocks zone of not popular enough for your own merchandise but popular enough that you’re not dragging everyone else down
I love the episode where Hawkeye yells at him, "For God sakes Klinger put on a slip." Then the episode where he's getting chewed out by the Captain, and he says "Klinger it's after 8am. Why are you still in your house coat?"
I live in NZ and was working with Oscar Kightley on publishing a book for him while he was also working on Moana pre-development and it was very annoying and difficult to get a hold of him 😑
I liked the songs of Frozen but didn’t like the plot. I liked the plot of Tangled but didn’t like the songs. Moana was the first modern Disney movie that I thought was strong on both counts. (Though I too don’t care much for “Shiny.”)
Did they really say that Anya from Anastasia should be a Disney princess? She's Fox, unless Disney made something I'm not aware of. Which is likely, to be honest.
Disney made money, and used that to buy fox I guess 😂 It's the same way that people say the alien queen should be a Disney princess now. The Mickey Mouse House is always growing aha 😅 - Lucas
Loki would be a prince not a princess as loki is a male. The queen from Aliens she is a Disney evil queen, rhe question is, is Ripley a disney princess ..
It’s very much for a target demographic of young boys who like space, pirates, some gross out humor and a loud obnoxious character. But I’d argue that despite that its core story of a fatherless boy becoming a man with the help of a criminal driven by greed overcoming his obsession is what makes the film enjoyable for an older audience. Visually I’d say it’s dated but it was also an early example of animation being used in both traditional 2D and computer generated 3D. The thing that sticks out to me the most in terms of the time it came out in is definitely The Goo Goo Dolls, but other than that I enjoyed it as a kid and enjoy it today. But yeah, I understand why some people wouldn’t like it as much as I do.

It's strange, the "the villain can't get the best song" thing.
Because all the best Disney songs are villain songs.

7:03 - fairly sure Mr House in FallOut is a direct reference to the Disney conspiracy theory.
It also makes me think of Cave Johnson from Portal Aperture Desk Job.
It's warms my heart that you mentioned my snarky correction of who played the Boulder in Avatar: the last airbender last time you mentioned it!
Maybe Karl should just accept that he's wrong about Treasure Planet

There is 3 reasons.
1. They're still new enough to stand on their own.

Dwyane johnston is all natural in his work outs... and hes only been to fast food places once... several times for the first time.
Lol..
Is Alan Tudyk the new frank welker?
Yeah and I have seen a Mickey mouse cartoon where they did Uncle Tom's Cabin
Elsa and Anna aren't part of the Disney Princess brand because the Frozen brand is so big and profitable that Disney makes more money off of them being their own separate brand than if they were part of the Princess brand proper.
I know you really like the Moana soundtrack but my favorite score from a Disney film is hands down the original Jungle Book.
Disney is making cheap TV sequel movies. David Tennant is playing the Doctor. Jon Stuart is hosting the Daily Show. Avatar is topical. Both of them.
