Like all shooters, Ewing was having the occasional off-night. But like all champions, he came through in the end, with play after play. It's really a fluke that he never got that ring. I'll always wonder about the Knicks season the NBA bureaucrats ended in 1997, benching Ewing, Starks, Johnson, Ward, and Houston over two games and letting the Heat regain the momentum and advance in the Eastern Conference, only to get gored (nearly swept, 4-1) by Jordan's Bulls. That was the year I truly thought the Knicks had the Bulls' number. But we'll never know.
