The Cleveland Cavs made it to the playoffs one season holding the ball for 20 seconds per possession averaging 87 points per game. The NBA was losing fans and money, so to produce more offense, for two seasons the NBA moved the three point line up, eliminated hand checking from the end line to the opposite foul line, and stopped players from using their forearms to stop an offensive player that is facing the basket. There were also a number of rules that made hard fouls easy to get away with. The man had everything you'd ever want in a center offensively and he was one of the great defensive centers of all time as well. A real shame the Knicks never got him any help.
Embiid would have straight body bagged him. Embiid is bigger and has Ewing,KG,Hakeem,Dirk moves with elite Defense. AD is more skilled but he don't have enough bricks in his pockets and he's wishy washy. Prime Dwight with the huge shoulders would be fun to watch on defense. Ewing couldn't stop him cuz he can't jump that high to get the lobs but Dwight isn't getting 30 a night so whatever
Hard to imagine, but his whole career began after the knee injuries in college. If he didn't have that happen, God only knows how ridiculously good he could have been. Definitely still my favorite player of all time.
Ewing would DOMINATE this era the same as he did then. His J was "wet" and he was highly skilled in all facets of the game... on both ends. Shaq would pass Jordan on the scoring list in this era. He'd be a lot less beat up, adding a few more years to his career. Today's game is so damn soft it's ridiculous.
Testos Tyrone it really is soft. Jordan, Bird, Wilkins, Drexler and many other players would have much higher scoring totals had they played today. We seem to have WNBA 1 and WNBA 2 now but look at the commissioner.
It would be like if Hassan Whiteside had a jumper. Dude would be averaging like 13 rebounds and easily around 25 points a game on the right team. He had the shooting form and would probably stretch out his shooting ability. He would basically be Lamarcus Aldridge and Whiteside mixed together imo.
Wilt could drop more than.those guys if a team let him in this era. Nobody tough enough to guard him in this era. He jumps higher, runs faster, rebounds better, passes better, dribbles better, plays better defense, shot blocks more often, steals more offen has more skills and is stronger than Shaq. Shaq is in no area better than Wilt. Embiid admits he would stand no chance vs Wilt. Embiid is currently a top 3 big man in this current era. Put Wilt, Kareem and Shaq in current era and they be the top 3 big men.
Watching these clips of Pat makes me appreciate more how good the guy was. People in NY always ragged on him for not winning it all, but who did during the Jordan era. The guy had the Knicks in the playoffs every single year practically, could hold his own with the great big men of the era, and was the best shooting big man of the era.
Man Ewing was that once in a lifetime big man, athletic and quick with offense but burly and strong enough to smother you in the paint. Wish he’d a got a ring.

This was my era, awesome and all but how amazing it would have been to see it from say Jerry West’s pov and he’s still around from when he got drafted in 1961 and he’s seen *them all* played with Wilt and Elgin, got the logo, paired Shaq with Kobe, etc. Some of the things that make the game as great as it was/is is in the history books (this student writes this comment to you buried deep in Jerry West’s basketball reference page). Something tells me you’d love that era as well as many of us “youngins” do
BFire I remember when I was a kid in the 90s, there was a sports illustrated for kids magazine and Patrick Ewing wrote an article about bullying. Ewing is my all-time favorite player. I started watching him at Georgetown as a freshman. I remember my dad telling me, hey come in here and watch this kid...he's gonna be the next great center in the NBA". I watched every game I could through his 4 years at Georgetown...and even though I am a die hard Cavs fan...I secretly rooted for the Knicks and watched as many games of Pat's that I could. I remember watching this game when it happened. I knew how good Shaq was gonna be...and watching my hero give young Shaq a lesson on the court...it was a special moment. I still miss watching that jump shot...and his warrior like yell after a huge dunk. It's a shame the game has changed so much that centers have become irrelevant...they added such grit and toughness to the game. We have enough flavor...we need some dirt back in this league.
Patrick had a beautiful jump shot for a 7 footer! He was very talented Center. They don't have guys like that anymore. No Ewing's, no Shaq's, no Olajuwon's, no David Robinson's. No awesome centers. A bunch of soft 3 point shooters nowadays.....
If you have no idea why Patrick Ewing's nickname was the warrior, just look at his battles with Shaquille O'Neal, Hakeem, and Kevin McHale. Then you'll have an excellent idea. One of the few players in the 1990s that had the upper body and leg strength, as well as the game, to go one-on-one with Shaq and make Shaq work at both ends of the court.
When players were perfecting their post moves and mid-range jumpers, the game was more fun to watch. The precision of Ewing's jumpers and his post game was just a beauty to watch.
actually Scott Skiles was pretty decent on the Magic before Shaq was drafted. Skiles did break the record for most assist in a single game, before he had Shaq to dish to.

Wow a center that could make a mid range jumper look at that.
For real. Actually make FTs, mid range...etc Dudes worked at there craft way more in these days. Now just mostly punks who have no where near all around games many di d in Ewings day
eh, they can mostly hit 3s now, all of em
Voice of REASON no they can’t
@Greg A Nikola Jockic
@@incidentalist But they're uncomfortable in the post. Which is where they should be dominating
Ewing had the Sweetest jump shot
This man shot 71% on 21 shots and dunked twice in this game...
The jump hook, runner in the lane, spot up on the wing, corner or top of key, turnaround off the high or low post, drew fouls...
The man had everything you'd ever want in a center offensively and he was one of the great defensive centers of all time as well.
A real shame the Knicks never got him any help.
I miss this kind of basketball. Patrick Ewing was so skillful. That jump shoot was money in the bank. And Shaq was absolutely beast back then.
You'll never see a nicer, more consistent turnaround fade away jumper from a 7'0" center
Talk about efficiency. 15 of 21 FG
They were some real men back then lol - Oakley, never forget that dude, played with some heart!
Everyone talking about Dwight, Davis, Embiid, etc., but Ewing was the BEAST FROM THE EAST
@@camerondrain8166 nah Ewing would bulldoze through’em all
@@camerondrain8166 .. shaq is bigger than embid right there. ewing held his own. problem is he was starting to get old then.
All facts my dude. Ewing would be a 26 and 10 guy easy with better numbers than Joel Embiid. Shaq would be a 30 and 12 reb guy easy.
@@Iwillnotbepushed bruh...🤣🤣🤣 . It's funny but true.
P.E really revolutionized the bigman standards of the NBA
Ewing Jumper was Wet 💯
Old school postup big men basketball. The 90s were awesome
Man Ewing was that once in a lifetime big man, athletic and quick with offense but burly and strong enough to smother you in the paint. Wish he’d a got a ring.
That Patrick Ewing dunk at 6:24 was just friggin’ nasty!!!
that's a real sledgehammer right there
So much power in that
Ewing had such an awesome high arching mid range jumper.... incredible feel for a guy his size... just wow.
And Basketball WAS beautiful back then...Ewing was a monster, thank God I had the opportunity to see the game when it was played by real men. I miss real Basketball and the 90's!
the exact same thing for me, they replaced our league with the actual circus.
Top 10 center of all time
Top 10??? How about top 3?
@@youneke top 3??? You really reaching for this one.
Antoine Wright i say top 5
@@MW_3 If you're talking about pure talent than you may be able to put him right behind Wilt, Kareem and Olajuwon but if you factor in accomplishments/stats he barely makes into the top 10. Probably right behind David Robinson just b/c Robinson was slightly more dominant in my opinion.
Top 5
ewing is so underrated and underappreciated
wow... just reminisced how smooth and easy on the eye Ewing was... for a big guy, he made it look so effortless
Give it up for the the warrior. Patrick is my favorite player. Such a sweet shot.
Patrick overall had more skills than Shaq like most of the good centers way back then
I was born in 98 but man this basketball is the best skill competition, heart man not the three point contest we have now I love the mid range post up when guys were really going at each others necks to win. Back then it’s just different this makes me miss the 2000s and trickles into the 90s I wish I was born eariler to see this live
I hear ya, a very real feeling.
Something tells me you’d love that era as well as many of us “youngins” do
HOH DROPPING BANGERS
How Did I Find you
So much more fun to watch back then!
For a center Ewing's midrange jumper was nice.
Great retro footage!!! This is how every highlight video should be. Best plays with replay of most interesting/attractive!!! I want more of those!
Just watching these highlights got me an adrenaline rush.. can’t imagine being on the court
Ewing with the "FEET work"😂😂. Shaq had that disrespectful lob jam on Anthony😂😂😂 pure shaq moment.
In a losing cause, tho
Beautiful thing watching Ewing with that jumper
You don't see this type of basketball anymore. Powerful men going at it in the paint.
Basketball was so much more exciting back then.
I really miss those Sunday afternoon NBA on NBC games :(
Absolute facts amazing memories created there
Patrick Ewing is one of my favorite players!
same!
BFire I remember when I was a kid in the 90s, there was a sports illustrated for kids magazine and Patrick Ewing wrote an article about bullying. He said when he first came to the country people bullied and made fun of him and called him coconut and he told how he turned it around to success and how to avoid negative comments. I’ll never forget that article and I liked him ever since.
@@TheFoodieCutie Thanks for the info bro! Pat was such a beast and never walk away or backdown in my mind...Even against top dunkers in the game he will do his best to contest them and never run away like today's players... When you hear the name Ewing like Charles Oakley, you know what you will get out of them right away...
The NY Knicks should truly be ashamed of themselves and their treatment of the great Patrick Ewing! He should currently be a staple and part of the organization!
Lol Ewing got caught up in the Jordan era Hakeem was a way better cause he got a couple of rings in the Jordan era so lets not go down this road wit ole Patrick Ewing just won't the man everyone thought hehehehehehe big loser in the NBA
@@kenriccorbett5369
What in the hell are you talking about?? 😂 Shut up. Ewing put in work. They were one game away from beating Hakeem and those Rockets......so ya argument makes no sense. Secondly, those Rockets won in the Jordan era WHILE JORDAN WAS PLAYING BASEBALL!!!!! Smh
@@daddyfamlittle6262 putting in work and being a champion is to different things lol you a DAMN scrub yourself but anyway you need to pray if be inducted into the hall fame I don't think he will cause he's not a champion no rings no hall of fame lol the dude won't as good as people expected point blank so you shut the hell up scrub
@@kenriccorbett5369
After that astoundingly stupid rhetoric and complete nonsense you just spewed.......I will digress 😒
@@kenriccorbett5369 ewing is good he is the greatest knicks ever.. But what about Miller he has no rings but inducted at Hall of fame
Patrick Ewings middy jumper is deadly
It seemed like everyone had a good midrange jumper. I have a DVD set of the 91 NBA Finals and guys were nailing mid range jump shots like it was nothing.
Damn he was a beast. He’d flourish today with that midrange he had
Happy birthday Patrick!!!
The vibes from this. This was the good days
Hey there's something you haven't seen in the NBA in years.... *DEFENSE!*
Patrick ewing didn’t have any titles, because MJ had them all, but he was a generational talent.
I remember a game when he was a rookie and was seriously schooled by Moses Malone. But Patrick was the real deal!
Gotta love the battle of the bigs in the 90’s.
90s Basketball was the best!!!
Patrick Ewing will always be my favorite NBA player. No one even comes close.
even tho ewing was 7ft tall and center he was sooooo smooth
I get the NBA changed but I miss this style of basketball. Physical defense, hard picks, post up offense and a silky smooth mid range game.
Nailed this comment
Ewing had a sweet jump-shot. He is so VASTLY underrated.
Man that old school Garden vibes from the 90s so many memories....my favorite when my boy Reggie lit the garden up 😁
When players were perfecting their post moves and mid-range jumpers, the game was more fun to watch. The precision of Ewing's jumpers and his post game was just a beauty to watch.
I can still watch this and enjoy it ...man those were some old good times
same here...and that's precisely what I am constantly doing at a certain point of most workday's nights. Cheers ;)
You've never thought you'd hear that... "oooh scott skiles has taken over"
actually Scott Skiles was pretty decent on the Magic before Shaq was drafted. Skiles did break the record for most assist in a single game, before he had Shaq to dish to.
I'm not saying he sucked... he was a good solid player... I'm just referring to what the announcer said
@@mc365mc That record still holds too.
It’s just interesting to see how much more physical the game was back then…. Them boys played hard defense - especially in the paint..
Yep and let guys like Gilbert Arenas tell it and it’s all out war and blood everywhere…at least not on that night lol but the game from a purist pov it was more complete in these days. And it was the 90’s as well so that’s another book in itself
@@HeathOverledger I stopped taking Gilbert Arenas seriously. It’s obvious at this point he’s trying to be controversial just to get clicks and hits to his podcast and on his RUclips channel. He has contradicted himself so much and says things that are just flat out not sure. He said no 90s point guards could compete with any guards after 2000 and they were all too small… Many 90s guards went into 2000 and became the best ever and HOFers. I guess he forgot about Jason Kidd and Penny Hardaway and more I can’t think of now. AI was from the 90s and gave everyone in the early to mid 2000s a fit, and he was a small dude….
If Ewing has Kobe or Wade on his teams he would have just as many rings as Shaq.....hell if Ewing had Pippen he would have had at least 2-3 rings....never had that second superstar....Knicks did him a great disservice
If somehow they got a Pippen and kept Mark Jackson they would had multiple rings
Amazing Game 🔥🔥🔥
Still watching 💪💪💪 June 14, 2023
Ewing is my favorite all time.
Patrick was one of my favorite players growing up. I loved to mimic his turn around jumper.
Wow.. Ewing had a nice jump shot and Shaq was really quick back in the day :)
bluesanyu Films Yeah, personally I think Orlando Shaq was much more fun to watch compared to his heavier LA years.

The little kid: "Ewing...Ewing" and then the fade away. That was the masterpiece of the video
