I got to see him live in Milwaukee in 1992 when he was playing for Sixers. He had Manute Bol on his team so it was really like 4 Sixers vs 5 Bucks when Sixers were on offense. Barkly had such a silky smooth jumper for such a big man it was incredible. Manute Bol never played offense he only stay on defensive side of court when Sixer got the ball Manute would walk up to half court and wait for Bucks to get the ball and then get under the rim to try blocking shots.

The fact that Barkley is 6'4", weighted "only" 250 lb. or so and held his ground against a 7'1", 300 lb. freak of nature is insane. Sir Charles' strength and positional understanding were underrated.
Like MJ and Shaq, Charles Barkley was a much a popular cultural figure as he was a basketball icon. He hosted Saturday Night Live 4 times starting this 1993 season.
I watched this game as it happened. Charles outplayed and outthought Shaq and used headfakes and posting up inside to force Shaq to foul or lose position. Shaq pulled that backboard down and that was impressive but Charles took him out of the game early with those fouls. Also someone said Charles was 6 foot 6 inches and though some listings say he's that tall he was only 6'4 which made him going up against a 7'2 monster even more impressive. Shaq learned a lot during this game though and stopped committing and going airborne later on. He used his size and positioned better too later on. He gained some more muscle in the next couple of years and was quite accomplished by then. Having Kobe didn't hurt either.
