    I wish I could be your neighbor.
    You have no idea how hard is when you start deer hunting on your late 30’s and no one in your family hunt you are the only one.
    It’s frustrating some time.
    You have been help me a lot.
    Thank you for all the info you are share.
    You definitely save me some time. (Maybe years lol)
    I didn’t get any mature buck yet only shot couple spike last year I do get some Does and be able to put some meat in the freezer.

      That's perfect. Get good at just finding and harvesting deer. You will work your way into a mature buck if you stay on it. Always learn something when you get out in the woods

    I got one last evening. Small 10 point.
    We have not been seeing any daylight movement so I moved to a gully with a small creek.there is a cedar swamp to by back and a creek in front of me. Just before dark I hear a stick break so I stand up and turn to the right and wait.soon I see movement and he came sneaking out and I made a good shot.
    First deer I seen all week In are shot gun week
    I will say he was in full rut and smelt like piss.....I could smell him before I got to him

    Hey Dan, I live across the pond from you in Michigan lol. Big fan of your videos! I've been bow hunting for about 15yr and I absolutely love it. Only having access to public land and being a self taught hunter I had a hard time lol but the last few years I've been able to get a lot more serious about it and love trying to find the big boys on public land lol. I've learned more from your videos than anything and love just spending time in the woods and swamps. If your ever in the area would like to meet you and take any advice I can get. Thanks again for all the good information! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

    Old video but down here in southeastern KY it is impossible to glass other than road side fields. People refer to it as hill country but it should be referred to as mountain country. Very hard to hunt these mountains and makes the late seasons very challenging. Especially hunting public land which is the Daniel Boone national forest.

      I scouted a place on my last bike ride through a property I know well after Thanksgiving on my way in. Just a little snow & I could tell what was going on. But work schedule got screwed up due to the big cross country storm. I wanted to hunt most of the day Wednesday & then do a morning hunt Thursday. I couldn't do either due to factors beyond my control screwing me over. Someone took a deer Wednesday & gutted it 20 feet behind my where i parked my 🚗 on Thursday. Went out & seen nothing & a Thursday morning appointment turned into Friday mid-day so I didn't get a hunt in that day either. Looks like we will be very 🥶 for the near future here in MN. I've lost 25 lbs over the last 2 seasons with little success & I'm in pretty good shape. But I don't have enough of a B.M.I. to stay warm anymore & I hate sitting on the ground. At least our 6 week gun/muzzleloader season is finally over!

    I just think there's way too much talk about big buck big buck big buck it starts to get to be overwhelming and I believe that It needs to stop being pushed so heavily by the hunting community as a whole. I am sure those that don't get or don't see big bucks get frustrated and some quit hunting altogether. Hunting is about time in the field and memories. I personally make others feel good if they shoot a spike where legal.
    There are hunters out there that need help just to shoot a basket rack!

      Absolutely, some areas just don't hold big deer and some just hunting for meat. I'm fortunate to have some good spots working on a farm, but I never look down on someone for shooting a " small buck".

    • @thehuntingbeast
      @thehuntingbeast  Год назад +5

      The tactics described will help you kill any buck, or if saying buck is also offensive, any deer... Keep in mind that many people, most perhaps, dream of someday shooting a big buck. They just don't know how to get there. We give those people a path and a direction. If you watch our videos you will see plenty of people shoot there 1st buck, or just a small buck for one reason or another. Nothing I hate more than buck shaming, but it works both ways. You dont like being shamed for shooting forky dont shame someone else for pursuing big bucks.

    • @KS-ud8pg
      @KS-ud8pg Год назад

      The Hunting Beast With all due respect, I did not shame anyone for what they harvest, and I think you should read my post again. Just making an outside observation how I feel the hunting community portrays hunting success by the size or age of a buck determines a hunters self worth.
      Again, I respect this entire channel for all that you do in teaching hunters as you are some of the best out there imo.
      Hope you all have a great Christmas!

    Quick question for all y’all snow
    birds out there. Going to do some late season hunting in Minnie-Soda starting this weekend and the area just got hit by snow. Should I worry about my camo pattern while entering and exiting my tree location?
    Was thinking of just buying a white bed sheet and making a poncho out of it.

    Sounds like the holiday hunt is something of a backwards tool by dnr to reduce herd. Maybe that is a good spot to use EAB. They might get more participation. In my county, no matter how many antler less seasons they have, or multiple free tags they give out, it remains at 32 deer per square mile. They eat very well, so I usually take at least 2 does. The hunting is great, so I hate to complain.

    • @josephtreadlightly5686
      @josephtreadlightly5686 Год назад

      Most herd reductions r about #'s. #'s to them r $$$ so they can do what they really want to do which is manufactured wood projects on public land.

    I absolutely hate the extra hunts. Youth, 4 day doe, muzzleloader & holiday. Kids aren’t special regardless of what you think - they should hunt the specific seasons. If you can’t harvest a doe during bow or gun - oh well. Muzzleloader should run with gun season. Chose your weapon - rifle, shotgun or muzzleloader. Guns get put away after the 9 day gun season and December is bow season till 12/31 and then deer season is done!

    How can you glass and do observation sits when you primarily hunt hardwood hills with no crop fields? I considered waiting till after a hard rain and trying to still hunt my way until running into deer. That way the leaves wouldn’t be crunchy.

I think I need to look for different type spots for late season. I’m having trouble finding where they typically go when it gets colder and later. I just don’t have any late season experience.

    Spots that work with a south wind may be a good idea since south winds normally mean warmer temps.
