After watching this scene multiple times, i finally realized it wouldnt have mattered even if Bruce was there. Judging by what is happening, seems like Alfred checks all the mail before giving it to anyone and maybe if Bruce was expecting something he would have told Alfred to give it to him and not open it. Alfred curiously and protectively opened the package for how sketchy the package was. The riddler surely didn't expect a Butler in the family haha

Considering how dismissive Bruce was toward his work, I doubt he even bothers checking his mail even if Alfred gives them to him. So naturally Alfred has to look at them himself.

    • @speedyazi5029

To add, Alfred checks it because the package inside says ‘For the Batman’. This line of text is what fully drives him towards opening the package when otherwise he might have thought of nothing much.
Alfred obviously knows Batman is Bruce and him opening the unknown bomb is proof that he would rather risk opening an unknown threat onto himself than having Bruce face it. It’s morbid curiosity mixed with compassion for protecting Bruce.

"Alfred Blows Up Scene" really, you couldn't find a better title

  • @OVianense

Honestly a scene that really made you heart broken wondering what was gonna happen next with Alfred and if he was going to be alright, as well as accurate from the actual storyline. They really nailed it. The movie literally tells us the actual story of "Batman"/"Bruce" storyline from how it began and how his legacy started out as well as grew from a very different perspective in comparison to all the other Batman movies. Like even the cast were amazing, especially Pattinson where he successfully managed to depict both Bruce as well as Batman perfectly well, same thing with the rest of the cast, like Carmine who was played so well, Alfred whom he nailed, same thing with Catwoman especially the riddler. Even the Batman and Commissioner duo was amazing, and one to watch. Goodcop, and batcop. Such an amazing soundtrack, a perfect, realistic, modern storyline that fits in with today and isn't overreached, or unrealistic, great cast with amazing potrayls of there characters that had no flaw, great effects, and emotion. Like you would always be on edge, and on your seat thinking as well as wondering what was going to happen next. You were literally focused on the movie at all times, esepcially with the amazing detail of the storyline that they nailed, and the attention in detail. Its literally a masterpiece and such an unforgettable movie, theres honestly no flaw with it and is one of my most favorite movies that I've ever watched on Christmas with my twin brother who never fails with his picks. Truly worth it, as well as a must watch if you wish to understand it or to see for yourself. Honestly can't wait for its sequel, trilogy if there's going to be one, and the future of this Batman. It's the best version of Batman as well as the most realistic Batman yet. One that isn't over the top, overreached and is just like the rest of us - having emotion, a past etc. - 12.26.2022

pretty subtle detail: When The Riddler talks with Bruce on the phone during Coulson's scene he said "I've been trying to reach you". Now Dory said the same but for a different reason. Haunting.

A scene filled with emotion indeed. I don't want to spoil it too much, But what a masterpiece, and honestly in my opinion, the best and most ideal version of Batman they managed. The movie literally shows and explores "Batman"/"Bruce" storyline and legacy from a very different perspective in comparison to all the others, and this new cast especially with Pattinson nailed it. A film with an excellent soundtrack, a perfect storyline, a great cast, great effects, and emotion, it was literally a masterpiece and an unforgettable movie, and I have nothing negative to say about it. Truly worth it, and can't wait for the future of this Batman trilogy!

We all know that Alfred knew that package was from the Riddler.
But with Alfred being aware of the Waynes' connection to Falcone, he 100% knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the package must've contained something fatal. He opened it too carefully and blocked his face too quickly for him to _not_ be braced for something like that.
He was willing and committed to _die_ for Bruce, and I'm not over that.

That's the only thing that truly disappointed me about The Batman which is how little screen time Andy Serkis' Alfred got. Given that this Alfred is based on the Earth One comic, there was TONS of potential for this to be the most badass and fleshed out live-action depiction of the character yet. But ultimately, they just kind of did nothing major with him other than injuring him and having him reveal the truth about Thomas.
