I have a Ryzen 3 2200G in my prebuilt system. It runs on single channel 8GB @ 2666MHz and I must say even on single channel, this thing can still give you playable frame rate. I'm contemplating upgrading the single to dual channel, no GPU yet sadly due to the stupid prices.
I have a 2200g in my build currently and it’s not bad but also not that good. The onboard graphics are not bad being vega 8, they can run all the games i play at around 50 fps on 1080p.
I think that cpu gup combo is great for mmo and pre 2015 AAA games , but playing 2020 or 2021 AAA games ... is just not worth it , better wait a bit for upgrate , and after all there are litarally tons of great games that can run on potato ;)
@@reksiohundson8706 I got a gtx 760 a few months back and it performs pretty well now. I only really play gta and minecraft but I also do emulate pokemon as well. It hasn't caused me much trouble considering the 760 is almost 8 years old
This was my main rig between 2019 and 2022. In 2020 my graphics card bit the dust, so I was on integrated for most of that time. Ditched it for a 5600x a couple months ago and built a spare parts HTPC around the 2200g. 3.85ghz (5% compared to stock boost) OC on the CPU and 1.6 ghz OC on the graphics (45% over stock) really help put it over the edge into playable territory in a lot of titles. I can see myself holding on to this thing for another decade or so, possibly its ultimate fate will be for me to underclock/uv it and deprecate it into file server or router duty.
I bought this APU durning the GPU shortage of 2017/2018. With the thought in mind I'd later pair with with a gpu when I could find one. Paired the APU with 8gb of fast ram (don't remember the MHz). LOL it was my first pc build. Later down the road I found an RX 570 for $120.00 came with a code for RE7R and I couldn't say no. Honestly for my first build it went well, and still going strong. I later added an SSD. For the money I put into my build. I'm happy with it.
@@reksiohundson8706 I think that with DDR5 APUs will start getting stronger GPUs as currently even if they put a stronger GPU in the APU the DDR4 bandwidth would be the bottleneck.
Hey RGHD, when you're saying "60% OF 1080p" could you also mention the equivalent real resolution? For example, 50% of 1080p is 540p. Helps put things into perspective.
One of these is in my Dad's Current Micro ATX build I setup for him. 1050ti is in the system but the onboard graphics is there for troubleshooting and testing if need be. Very nice chip for someone who needs to just browse online and play older games from GOG.
I've been quite pleased with how well this little APU ran for me. Bought it new back in 2018 for like $130 CAD, slapped a nice overclock and it's been rocking on since. Granted I always had a dedicated GPU along side it but it still kicks serious ass regardless. Not a bad investment if someone is just starting to dip their toes into PC gaming.
Definetly! With the GPU market the way it is, I've used many of these in builds for customer's first gaming PCs recently. They still do very well. I've been using a specific part list that comes to under $580 and has all the extras. (AsRock A320, 16GB OLOy RAM, M.2, 1TB HD, Apevia 550W PSU, Cylon RGB Case, peripherals.)
I bought this in 2018 when I was first getting into PC gaming. The whole rig was just around $300. While it was great on its own, I decided to upgrade the graphics when I saw a RX 580 for $80. I've since upgraded my processor, but I still have this APU, waiting for a chance to build a Mini ITX HTPC/couch gaming machine.
With the announcement of AMD FSR, it would be pretty nice if you would take a look back at these APUs while utilizing that feature in compatible games.
Still using it right now! I got an RX 570 graphics card and both of them run pretty much any game in 1080p. Never had problems running any game so far.
With FSR coming this month supporting APU, all AMD graphic cards till RX 400 series and even GTX Nvidia cards from pascal and up it will be very beneficiary for all “peasant” cards and will help this APU as well. Test it again after 22nd of June with FSR on. It will be very interesting to see the uplift. It might turn this APU into a solid 60fps 1080p option.
As a former 2400G owner, the extra threads helped with MMOs and other multiplayer games that would stress the CPU. The Vega 11 graphics doesn't perform any better than the Vega 8 found on the 2200G and the 4000G and 5000G series APUs. I think that's why AMD didn't bother going any higher than 8 units on them.
I still have my Ryzen 5 2400G and it allowed me to game for a few months before purchasing the RX 570 for $130 brand new at a local shop. I still have that card as well despite having bought an RX 5600 XT and then a short time later a 2070 Super.
This was the CPU I picked for my first PC build. Put it together with a 1050ti and a stick of 8GB DDR4 3000 on an MSi board. Ran it for about a year or so before picking up a 1600AF and an extra stick of ram, which is now my current setup. The 2200 was able to handle what I threw at it quite well, all things considered, and paired well with the 1050 for 1080p in the games I was playing. Once I got the 1600AF was when the weakness of the GPU started to shine through.
1050 Ti is really weak even for the 1600AF, definitely room to upgrade there as well. Fingers crossed that can actually be done again one day lmao. Ugh -_-
I have this exact motherboard and apu with 16 gb ddr4 2666mhz ram and it’s not the greatest gaming experience but it’s just about bareable so It’s good for now. Do you think I should upgrade to a ryzen 5 3400g or get a new motherboard (b450 maybe) first as graphics cards are still expensive and I’m not sure what to do. Great video dude, as usual! :)
In May 2020 i upgraded my main system from a R3 3200G to R5 3600 & 1060 6GB. It was worth ist because i got the 1060 for 100€. The 3200G is now in my Media-PC and still runs older Games like "Dead Space", "Trine 1-4" and "Dirt Rally" without major problems.
that's cool. I recently upgraded to a 3600 too. only problem is, now I'm super GPU limited. doesn't seem likely that that's gonna be fixed any time soon.
I have the low power variant of this (2200GE) and honestly shocking how well it performs. if you are not playing the latest AAA releases a ryzen apu is a great choice, especially in today's gpu market
@@mwhunter2346 you can use anything and everything you can use with normal CPU. For all purposes it is just normal CPU, just with graphic card placed inside of it.
This was my daily driver for light gaming and online school when the pandemic hit! I've upgraded since then, but I will recommend this APU to anyone who wants to get their feet wet with PC gaming.
I think these APU's will get much better when AMD Releases FSR , I have an rx5500xt 4gb and I'm also planning on getting a ryzen 5 3500u laptop , so you can imagine the sense of happyness I felt when I learned that I can potentially get 3x the performance
Still using a 2200. I built a low budget system about 2.5 years ago. I paired it with an rx580 that I got for $100, and just 8gb ram. Sure it doesn't hit AAA games all that well, and ill be upgrading as soon as prices settle down, but I won't be tossing this in the bin. I'll keep it to build a media/emulator/GoG pc in a suitcase, because I've always wanted to build a suitcase pc.
Overclocking the iGPU from 1100Mhz to at least 1450Mhz+ should be very easily doable on these first Gen APUs. Personally used one for oevr 2 years, and was blown away by how good it was with dual channel 3333cl16 ram and 1525Mhz iGPU. Please include oc results as well if possible - especially for APUs, where every last bit counts! BTW you will need at least a B450 to overclock the iGPU i think
Thanks for this video , i've been debating on building my dad a deskmini so he can get into gaming and he uses a 900p monitor so this confirmed it for me !
Ryzen 5 5600G + 5700G are available in August btw, if you don't mind waiting, they are around 1.5x faster graphics than the 2200G with a much better CPU.
5:57 I had a similar experience with Rage 2 on an i5-3570, 8GB ram, rx 460 2GB. I could get 40-60 fps at low setting 900p but 4 or 5 out of 10 times I loaded a save the game decided to run at 20 fps, forcing a restart of the game and sometimes a complete restart of my pc to fix it.
Crazy to think I had this in my main rig there for a long time. Sold it right before 3000 launch to build a new 10th gen rig. Never happened for some reason, can’t think of anything at all
I used a 2200G for a year and a half, and the Vega 8 graphics were amazing on Linux, even running some games at playable framerates at 1440p. It's just too bad that I got a motherboard which had its BIOS pre-updated to support Ryzen 3000, which meant that I had some stability issues which were reproducible on many 2000 series Ryzen CPUs on various B450 boards - and you can't downgrade the BIOS on some ASRock boards, including the one I happened to buy. I've since upgraded to a Ryzen 5 3600 but I will absolutely be using this CPU in my spare computer when I get a compatible motherboard - it currently uses a FX 8350 which really makes the room its in really warm, which of course is not ideal in the summertime. Additionally, my only spare graphics card is a GT 730 which is a bit of a nightmare on Linux with the proprietary drivers, so it'd be good to make use of the 2200G's Vega 8 iGPU again.
Love this little APU! Its was a great gateway into the AM4 socket, and I really hope AMD does something similar for their upcoming AM5 socket. Though, maybe with multithreading this time lol.
RGHD! When testing CPU's can you have a more 'traditional PC' games test line up?? Stuff like the Total Wars, Transport Fevers, Java Minecraft oh and Universe Sandbox will melt anything you throw at it! These types of game can often be pretty demanding especially when doing stuff on a large scale. I know all the games come out on PC nowadays, and that is good, but I would like to see something other than the same AAA stuff everyone else bench marks. Keep up the good work :D
Java minecraft is tested in old cpus or extremely low end reviews, but often it runs good enough on half decent hardware to not really need to be compared, and also can have a ton of different performance optimizations that dramatically change framerate.
@@gamagama69 Well the latest version, no optifine, spikes my 5800x above 90% when loading 25 chunks. Is super fast but still the most I have seen without building a death system in universe sandbox.
I've been using my AMD Ryzen 2200G since 2019 with 16gb of DDR4 ram. I never really thought about it's age, for my uses, my rigs been more than adequate and is most likely a LOOOONG way from needing any upgrades (probably until 2025 when Windows 10 will join Windows XP as part of PC history)

I gave my brother a 1050ti when i upgraded but he has a 2400g and all the games he plays ran fine on 720p.Even with the 1050ti he still plays on 720 with higer settings rather than 1080p on lowest. For us old gamers. It's not about quality,it's about game play.
I use a 2200G on an HTPC connected to a 4k TV. For the most part, it's fine. I don't play games on it, and normally it works well for playing 4k content directly or via RUclips. Be warned though, when you start doing stuff like playing two (720p/1080p) RUclips videos at the same time and do something pretty simple like maximizing one of them, the video playback can lockup for several seconds, and if you have several apps open at once, things can get a little choppy. So, while it's still a decent CPU, you're not always going to get the smoothest experience out of it even when you're not playing games, and as this video shows, it's not always the GPU side of things that is holding it back.
You know I used to be one of those avid "build your own pc never pre-built" but now? It's actually worth more to get pre-built atleast now, a 3060 on its own can be close to 1k, and a nice 6900x being over 500 you'd be better off
Watching this video because I managed to get a 2200g, a B450 mobo AND a liquid cooler for the equivalent of 50 dollars. I'm so happy I could run around in circles!
Something to bear in mind with apu's.. ram speed really really matters, don't go for the absolute cheapest motherboard possible, go for a cheap midrange chipset and go for Higher speed ram with xmp enable, ram speed makes a huge difference. Also make sure you have dual channel ram. The 2400g is also much better than 2200g
Couple of mistakes you made in this video (nothing serious): 2:10 "Anti-AA at medium...." - There's no Anti-AA, unless you're claiming there's an option to counter the AA in order to re-introduce the jagged edges that AA counters back? 4:20 "...drop the res down to a native 1280x720..." - It isnt a *native* res per se, unless you're claiming that your monitor has a max resolution of 1280x720, which evidently it isnt the case, since you claimed that you dropped the res down to 1280x720. A *native resolution* is a monitor's maximum res, and the res that the manufacturer tuned the monitor and intended it to work with that.
Well.. still using 2200g and 2070 now (bad combination, I got the 2070 for free). The 2200g is still more than enough for Photoshop and office application and a good heatsink will make a big difference in performance in video editing

Lowering the resolution scale actually reduces latency fulltime.
A lot of games perform great at 713p
Ayy ive had this since launch, im glad to see it here. I might upgrade to the 5600g

Putting this bad boy into a small form factor PC for my parents. Great little chip that held me over well when I was waiting for the 3600 to release.
A 2024 version would be also helpful.

Great one man, could you please do some videos on laptops from ebay especially old gaming ones?

I gave my brother a 1050ti when i upgraded but he has a 2400g and all the games he plays ran fine on 720p.Even with the 1050ti he still plays on 720 with higer settings rather than 1080p on lowest. For us old gamers. It's not about quality,it's about game play.
hello, will you do a reviewing your rigs video again? Also love the content!
Been using this cpu for 2018, does the job
You know I used to be one of those avid "build your own pc never pre-built" but now? It's actually worth more to get pre-built atleast now, a 3060 on its own can be close to 1k, and a nice 6900x being over 500 you'd be better off
It was a pretty good CPU. I still have mine.
That would be cool to see all 2nd gen and 3rd gen apu in a comparaison to see if the more expensive option are worth over this little beast
Couple of mistakes you made in this video (nothing serious):
2:10 "Anti-AA at medium...." - There's no Anti-AA, unless you're claiming there's an option to counter the AA in order to re-introduce the jagged edges that AA counters back?
APU prices are a nightmare at this point. The 2200g is $260 new via Amazon, $140 abused via ebay, that's just sad.
Got one of these chips ~8 months ago, great chip plays Skyrim SE well at 1080. Witcher 3 is 720p but high settings & smooth frames. Picked it up new for £65 at the time.
view distance does not affect player view distance, only objects like bushes or trees and so on
Could you compare it with a 5000 series APU next? I'm considering an upgrade but I can't find a reliable comparison.
There is no 5000 series apu. Only 4000. The 4650g for example.

This APU will always be legendary. This demolished Intel back then in graphics performance when it was launched. Perfect for average 720p gaming.
I have the ryzen 5 2400g and I used it for about a year without a gpu. I was able to play games like the witcher 3, at high settings 900p and 30 fps.
