As said in the video, Zen 2 architecture was more successful during silicon lottery, so there were not that many 3300x to begin with . And due to silicon shortage, it did not pay off for AMD to make these cheaper processors on purpose . 2:32 you are correct. the 3300 and 3100 are indeed defective ryzen chips that doesn't meet the required core count for 3600 and above products. as the manufacturing process matures - less and less defective chips are produced hence why these ryzen 3 vanished like a fart in the wind which is a real shame because they are really competitive chips for their original MSRP.
    TLDR; the 3300 and 3100 are not purposely built cpu's. but rather a byproduct of defective chips during the (at the time new) manufacturing process. it was a godsend back then the "no chip left behind" mantra.

      On top of that the defective CPU had to have a very specific configuration of good cores to be a 3300X and not a 3100 (All four good cores on the same core cluster, or CCX).

    • @DigitalJedi
      @DigitalJedi 3 года назад +27

      With AMD moving to an 8 core CCX with the current 5000 cpus it makes sense that the 5100, 5200, and 5300 variants are quite rare as losing that many cores to defects on a CCX likely means other parts of it are dead too.

    • @roqeyt3566
      @roqeyt3566 3 года назад +7

      It's also why you can sometimes get disabled cores or cache to work, but it's a bit of a mess and it's usually instable
      Sometimes a chip has 5 working cores, and the cache is functional for a 6 core model, but one core is just not really up to the task so they bring it down to the next lower spec by disabling portions.

    AMD should really start focusing on APU production, especially RDNA-based APUs because from watching the price trends of their current 5000 series CPUs with the frequent discounts on them from retailers, they're more accessible and easy to buy than their GPUs. They would earn more this way instead of expecting people to buy overpriced GPUs.

    I recently put together a lower cost amd system, and i wanted a 3300x
    However i found they were only about 10$ CAD cheaper than the 3600 new.
    And on the used market they were actually more expensive than the 3600.
    So i felt i was kind of pushed in the direction of buying the 3600 because the pricing just didnt really make sense.
    I have seen some benchmarks from HUB where the 3300x scored higher than the 3600 because of the higher single core performance. But the 6/12 cpu will most likely have more longevity.

Pretty contented with it even if it is currently paired with only a 1650 Super. Was planning on upgrading but the GPU fiasco started.

      When I built my 3300x system, I also scored a brand new vega 56 for $200 from Newegg. (it was on sale on the weekend I bought it) It has exceeded all of my expectations for the quad core and the vega gpu. They love being overclocked and has been a little race horse for me. Yes, I went overkill for the cooling system, because I thought I would be upgrading to the new 5000 series cpu when they came out...Then the gpu and cpu apocalypses happened. So the pairing has been amazing and never regretted it.

      The true reason for all these shortages IS NOT the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic! That's just a bullshit cover story told by the mainstream news agencies, in the interest of NOT causing a public panic. The true reason for all these shortages is the Long Emergency, as foretold by James Howard Kunstler! You see, the Long Emergency is caused by global resource depletion. Well, guess what: the COVID-19 cover story will only DELAY the inevitable public panic that WILL happen once people start encountering $20 per gallon gasoline and empty grocery store shelves!

    This chip has been readily available, brand new, in Australia despite the UK,US shortages for ~120-140GBP (220-260AUD) for some reason. Interest here has dropped off since Microsoft has failed to list it again on the latest updated list of approved chips for Windows 11. I think AMD might have asked them to kill it off since it competes with their own latest chips now.

    One thing one should add, 3100 and 3300X are different internally, by the nature of the configuration of active cores per CCX in each bin of an CCD chiplet, the 3300X has an substantial advantage in memory related workloads since it essentially acts like an monolithic die architecture, with all 4 cores using the same cache, all 4 of the cores in the 3300X are IN THE SAME CCX. In the 3100 the cores are spread between BOTH CCXs, so in any workload where one core needs to "talk" a lot to another or make heavy usage of the cache, there is an severe latency penalty.
    This fact also explains why there are fewer 3300X's than 3100's, it is FAR more likely that at least 1 core will fail in ALL CCX's, the unique situation where all 4 cores inside the CCD are functioning only in one CCX is very rare, even more so as it would be wasteful to disable the functioning cores of the other CCX inside that same CCD chiplet, the 3300X exists only as to make sure this rare occasion where only one side of the CCD works while the other does not, doesn't results in immediate e-waste.

    I have one of these. It was a great purchase for its (then) very low price. I saw some reviews and thought it looked like great value. Put in an order with a major hardware retailer but quickly realized that was going nowhere as the delivery date kept getting pushed back. So I looked around with smaller retailers and found one that had it in stock.
    For most games it's excellent. For that last 0.1% of titles like Cyberpunk, it's fine but not optimal. It has a tendency to run hot, which is why I fitted it with a cooler that ironically is somewhere around the price of the CPU. It does come with a perfectly adequate Wraith cooler, though.

    There is a setting in Windows Graphics settings advanced menu that completely sends all the frame timings to the gpu bypassing the cpu entirely. So from there the gpu goes as fast as it can go. I have a 3950x so I tell the cpu to handle the physics instead of the gpu, using nvidia control panel. So this gives the card more resources on itself to perform better.
