For whole thermal paste, simplest answer is, the only wrong way is too little. Pea sized dot, x, smiley face, lines, flowers,... it really is all within less than 1C difference for regular desktop parts. It starts to matter a bit on HEDT like Threadripper, since heatspreader and CPU itself are huge. But with regular things us mortals get, it is small enough that it spreads once it gets pushed down by the cooler and paste is made to fill smallest of the "cracks" between CPU heatsink and cooler. It is really thin layer. And even doing too much, will just squeeze a bit out on the sides, which is non-issue unless you used whole big tube.... though it wouldn't be an issue with that either as long as paste is not electrically conductive. So basically, you almost can't go wrong and even if one corner is missed, die itself is in the center for Intel and heatspreader has "spreader" in the name for a reason. As for GPU, make sure you give it enough, because unlike CPU, GPU has no heatspreader that can make up for some corner not getting paste. It is on die directly and it has to cover corners, because otherwise that portion will run hot. Obviously this little thing didn't need much, but if you got bigger die, then give it enough. Also for beginner and most worry free, don't get paste with metallic base, or in other words electrically conductive. Something like Arctic MX-4 is fine and very safe to start with.

I really like the homely-style that you do in your videos! It's so relaxing and soothing with those pc components in the garden with your calm voiceovers in it, than in a studio with electronic music in the background! Keep it up, RandomGaminginHD! Also, I'm considering in getting that same electric duster as yours as it is £50 and I've heard good reviews. So, here's my question about it, do I have to ground myself before I start using it to clean my pc?
You don't need to be grounded all the time, but touching not painted part of a pc case when it's still plugged in (or other grounded thing) is a good practice. Also for time of cleaning avoid touching pets, carpets, and some kinds of clothes.
They sell a bracelet with a wire clip to discharge static, I have it and it's not a bad idea to wear it when working on delicate parts like RAM and motherboards. Honestly I think that the best way to address the problem is wearing antistatic clothes and shoes.
I have the Compu Cleaner in red and haven't bothered grounding myself. I do what RGHD did in this video as a side hustle and haven't caused any issues. A couple tips though if you plan to do something similar to the video: Unplug the computer and hold down the power button for 10 seconds to discharge the electricity from the computer. Use the blower before unplugging/disconnecting any computer parts. That way you don't get dust in used RAM slots or in the CPU socket for instance. Use your hand or a plastic pen to hold fan blades to keep them from spinning. Not doing so can cause damage to the motor (I have experienced this a couple of times). Be careful when using this to dust off hard drives and CD drives. I have actually stopped using it for those and just wipe them down by hand. You can accidently force dust into places you don't want it to and cause problems. I had a working CD drive that stopped working right after I cleaned it with the Compu Cleaner, but it was fixed by opening and closing the tray. I may not be lucky next time. Lastly, the intake is at the bottom of these cleaners and there's a filter to block big stuff from coming through. Make sure you check it often and don't set it down on places like carpet or loose things until the motor is completely powered down; it helps keep it from getting clogged quickly. Anyways, the duster saves you money in the long run and is useful for many other things as well!

You can use a steamer for cleaning the 'non' electric components like the 'case' after blowing it with the blower. It kills the unwanted germs and and provides a newer look. The steam can clean the grimes form all the nooks and crannies. Since its steam it'll take about 10 secs to dry out, so no worries.
Who's a dirty little computer...? YOU ARE 🤣 In all seriousness, though, it really feels like these sellers are going dumpster diving at scrap yards that take free e-waste (a lot over here will let you dump the computer for free and just charge for monitors) and selling them as-is.
Between Greg "hours spent carefully detailing with alcohol wipes, q-tips, and cotton swabs" Salazar and Budget Builds "Let me just turn a garden hose on the entire PC" Official lies RandomGaminginHD :D
When you use the Blower on the PSU (or something else with a fan) you should block the fan from spinning, since it can otherwise function like a Generator and fry components.
You're right, but the voltage it generates is not enough to actually fry components. I've blown out entire systems without blocking the movements of any fans and they all ran without any issues when I started them back up.
“How a case looks won’t affect the performance” Excuse me! Everyone knows the more LED RGB fans/strips you have, and the more weird angular lines you have, the faster it is!
I find great satisfaction by watching you bring these PCs back to life. Sure, it can't run triple A games with amazing performance, but PCs are able to do much more than that. So many people would be happy to own one of these, even if just for web browsing, watching movies... most machines are great if used to their purpose. You definitely don't need a Ferrari to move from point A to B, a VW Beetle might do just fine. :)
Looks similar to the Dell XPS 8700 I bought back in 2015 except the motherboard has 4 RAM slots (4GB DDR3 1600 MHz in each), an i7-4790 and a GTX 745 (now replaced with a 1070). Also, the PSU was 460W (now replaced with a 650W 80+ Gold). And yes, the case was complete HELL to work with! The thing would get caked in so much dust too! Moving it all to a NZXT case was the best decision I made.
I love the idea of rescuing systems from their inevitable death in a dump. Especially if said system could be used elsewhere and have a second chance of life.
Ayy I have the same exact air blower, and yeah it is the best thing I've purchased cuz it never loses its pressure unlike compressed air cans and I don't need to be buying new cans every time anymore
Electric air dusters are one of the best inventions. Mine has served me for years and probably saved me hundreds of dollars worth of compressed air cans.
Doesn't that CPU have Intel HD 4600 graphics? Wouldn't you improve performance just by removing the GT 705? as the iGPU is actually more powerful, especially if it had dual channel ram.
*sees the graphics card being pulled from the PC* Oh my goodness!! I know that exact card! I have the same one in my main computer! It is a GT620! Didn't think anyone would be as unlucky as me to have one. ".......let me introduce you to the GT705." Wow! Freaking show off! But no matter how bad they are, they are still leaps and bounds better then the GT620.
@RandomGaminginHD Some advice on GPU Thermal Paste application: Tldr: Spread the paste thinly and evenly on the bare die. (With a spudger or a cut piece from an old credit card or something like that) Why you might ask? Well, for crappy cards like these it wont matter 99% of the time. But let me tell you I've owned a 7970 Lighning BE in the past. Applying a pea sized amount on the bare die would spread out evenly on the die, in a circular pattern. Leaving out just tiny spaces in the corners (really only like 1mm of space): I deemed the card faulty because whenever I furmarked the thing, it would give me massive artifacts once it warmed up. I was about to give up but then I reapplied the thermal paste, spreading it out evenly to cover the full die. And boom, it worked like a charm (no Furmark artifacts anymore) - even though reported temps were the same between the two methods. Leaving me to believe that this really power-hungry card would actually overheat PARTS of the die (not where the temp sensors were positioned necessarily), leading to transistor failure/partial overheat. So from this day on, whenever I am to apply thermal paste on a bare die, I thoroughly make sure to get full coverage of the die. With IHSes you don't need to be so peculiar. Keep rocking ✌️

I did cringe a bit there. 😂
Who's a dirty little computer...? YOU ARE 🤣
In all seriousness, though, it really feels like these sellers are going dumpster diving at scrap yards that take free e-waste (a lot over here will let you dump the computer for free and just charge for monitors) and selling them as-is.
Between Greg "hours spent carefully detailing with alcohol wipes, q-tips, and cotton swabs" Salazar and Budget Builds "Let me just turn a garden hose on the entire PC" Official lies RandomGaminginHD :D
when you first said "faulty" I heard it as "forty" and got a good laugh, always enjoy your vids
also your dry delivery and wit has sharpened to a fine point, keep it up
When you use the Blower on the PSU (or something else with a fan) you should block the fan from spinning, since it can otherwise function like a Generator and fry components.
You're right, but the voltage it generates is not enough to actually fry components. I've blown out entire systems without blocking the movements of any fans and they all ran without any issues when I started them back up.
“How a case looks won’t affect the performance”
Excuse me! Everyone knows the more LED RGB fans/strips you have, and the more weird angular lines you have, the faster it is!
"Which, by the way, there is a special place in hell for..."
That was so unexpected and said in such a friendly manner that I burst out laughing.
Same.
And so true.
I’m past the point where I need the lowdown on gear so now I’m just watching for the back yard shots.
"Which by the way, theres a special place in hell for." Lmao this guy
If you don't use a torx driver for torx screws, you are already living in hell. ;)
The hustle begins.
That gpu would struggle even with mine sweeper. :)
I would have left the CPU in the socket for all steps involving the motherboard.
"Just a pea sized amount, it works fine - every time"
You're damn right it does!
Ah the Wheeler dealers for PC’s. But both Mike and Edd played by one guy
Haha I’m looking more like Mike these days
*sees the graphics card being pulled from the PC*
Oh my goodness!! I know that exact card! I have the same one in my main computer! It is a GT620! Didn't think anyone would be as unlucky as me to have one.
".......let me introduce you to the GT705."
Wow! Freaking show off!
In all seriousness, didn't even know of the 705, and here I thought the 710 was bad enough. *Insert any dawid video*. But no matter how bad they are, they are still leaps and bounds better then the GT620.
5:18 "Our case's looks won't affect the performance"
Blasphemous. Everyone knows an RGB case increases FPS by 90.
@RandomGaminginHD
Some advice on GPU Thermal Paste application:
Tldr: Spread the paste thinly and evenly on the bare die. (With a spudger or a cut piece from an old credit card or something like that)
Why you might ask?
I just noticed that most cables in PCs during this era have the German flag on them, just like my old power supply! 😅
Almost same spec as my htpc
i5 2400
10gb ddr3 1333mhz
GT705 (found on old system on my office)
1tb hdd
When I saw that case I got worried, I have this exact same computer but it’s an FM2 socket with an A8-5500. Glad you got at least a better cpu.
What's really funny is that I found this exact HP Pavilion at my local electronics recycling centre, I got it off them for £20 and it works just fine
