No rounds penetrated his body armor, and he made it home with no permanent injuries. This happened in Kunar Province, Afghanistan.
READ From the cameraman:
" I got a hit a total of 4 times. My helmet cam died and i made it down the mountain on my own. I was also hit in the side of my helmet and my eye pro was shot off of my face. We were doing overwatch on the village to recon and gather intel. I was point heading down the face of the hill with the LT. when we got hit. the rest of the squad was pinned down by machine gun fire. I didn't start the video until a few mins into the firefight for obvious reasons. I came out into the open to draw fire so my squad could get to safety."
"A round struck the tube by my hand of the 203 grenade launcher which knocked it out of my hands. When I picked the rifle back up it was still functional but the grenade launcher tube had a nice sized 7.62 cal bullet hole in it and was rendered useless. "
This footage is part of an ongoing documentation of the war in Afghanistan.

@@robertburn8469 I dont think the other soldier thought that. Not at all.
He did get him self in a bad spot but he knew what he was signing up for. Even the best trained soldiers make mistakes, the sad truth in war is you normally get one mistake. This happened more to them than ours but regardless....this is what many of our enemy lived right before they got ended by a Apache or a-10 at least that's a quick death . Either way dying is part of the job, they signed over their life when they enlisted and trained to stay alive. I've never been in the military but I've been shot at and have had many times where I was sure I was going to die....it's beyond fear.
This soldier would have been disciplined in all actuality. He didnt follow procedure. When you recieve blanket machine gun fire and the position is unknown, your first goal is to find cover. After finding cover, attempt a request for indirect fire; howitzers, mortars, rpg, air support, or whatever it takes. Once you have a decent idea of the enemies position, the squad should split and perform a flanking maneuver. If this soldier was trying to draw fire, he would be practicing the "3 second" rule, "now they see me, now they dont". He put his squad in danger and is damn lucky he wasnt killed. In all actuality, the smart chouce would have been to move 5 feet up the hill and hid behind cover with the REST OF HIS SQUAD!

@@elliott6080 How so? They were spotted from a distance
For those of you who don't know why he run down and expose himself from these fire. Looks at the video description and the beginning of the video and you will know. And if you still don't understand why he does what he did. Let me explain it to you.
In the beginning, there were a Taliban MG pinning down his unit (You can hear the burst from the machine gun), the guy who we saw being shot (THE guy) was on point with his CO, and the MG pin down his squad.
Standard practice on being ambush is that you go out of the cross fire and sweep back (or flank) the ambush, that is what he is doing, if he is on point, which mean he is highly likely past the cross fire zone (as he said It was pinning down his squad) which mean he need to re-engage the target.
So what he does is basically hit the MG from the side. So, either the MG would have to target him and change the whole orientation (Which has happened in this case) and the guys trapped in the cross fire and move to safety. Or the ambush keep pinning the squad down and he flank/sweep and destroy the ambush.
He is not dumb or whatever, this is just how you counter an ambush, but he does have balls doing it alone..
@Harrison Stott I will have to say, if you resort to use the word "Noob" you are to be taking seriously.
Why bother with people just not going to understand what it felt like to be shot at? When the most they got is Video Game?
@what the hell your fucking disgusting he risked his life and your making stupid little jokes
Can I ask a question? I'm trying to understand his tactics. My thinking is that if he is trying to flank the machine gunner, should he not do it from behind cover? I mean he is going down into a valley where he is exposed to enemy fire, where the enemy has the higher ground relative to him and he has no buddy with him. Surely he would just go round to the enemy's side(i.e. flank) with cover being provided from rocks etc from higher ground as opposed to going down the slope where there is no cover from enemy fire?
This guy ran down a hill exposed his self to direct enemy fire and your talking about flanking lol no go
@@sethrauldatta2908 I cannot comment on the whole situation, I was not there, I can only try to understand his action.
But I do know two things.
1.) From the direction of his fire, the enemy should be between the road and the small ridge there in front of the mountain range. (I thought the enemy was in the compound but you can see he is not shooting in that direction) Which mean he most likely have to cross the valley (Between him and the road) if he try to make a sweep.
2.) When you are in an ambush, the worst position you would be in is when you silhouetted against the sky, which mean you are completely exposed to enemy fires, now, I am not sure where the solider was with respect to the mountain he is on as he did not look back and is not captured on camera.) but it is most likely he is in front of the mountain or at least at the top. So, if he move back behind the mountain, he would have to silhouetted against the sky and that is not where you want to go or what you want to do in an ambush, you want to stay hidden against the terrain.
He is going across the flank of the enemy, you can see at the beginning of the video, he walk forward and turn left to fire his weapon, and you can clearly hear the enemy MG is shooting at his left. But then at around 1 minute mark, you see first the enemy small arms are shooting his way and followed by the enemy MG, the guy still walking perpendicularly to the road (enemy fire), you can see he walks, and then looks left, and then engage left, which make sense because in his word, he said he was trying to draw enemy off from his platoon by presenting himself as a target.
However, I have to say, I wasn't there, that is just my speculation on what he is doing, unless he comes in here and explain to us why he do what he do, we may never know.
I guess movies weren’t exaggerating when making all the bad guys miss the shots
Well they are in close quarters combat these guys are at km of distance you can barely see where 's the enemy
in most wars u can not see the enemy u just hear gun fire u get low and u only know the general directoin where the shooting is coming from then ur suppost to just shoot back without seeing the enemy.
@YouMake MeReal 4 times total yes
Tbh this is actually pretty accurate fire coming from the insurgents
The hell are you talking about? This is extremely accurate fire.
This is a video they now show in Infantry school on what not to do. As hard as it is to watch, he made every mistake you can possible do in a field of fire. He is alone, he is bounding without cover, he has no awareness of where the fire is coming from, and the worst part is he has absolutely no cover to even bound to. Every time I see this I just think just keep going down, but he stops which is a huge mistake and then he takes cover under a rock no bigger than him and gets hit and in the exact line of fire of where we was getting shot from. The rock to his right was huge and he could have taken cover behind that. Beyond all of that I just pray he came out of this ok.
Same, he said he was goin down, I thought he was gonna run to that house, especially with those close impacts, idk tho fog of war maybe he just got turned around..

You have to be dumb as shit to do what he did. Then he risk other soldiers lives to rescue him. He runs down a hill exposed into machine gun fire. An of course he got hit. Why he runs down a hill closer to machine gun fire is beyond me. Stupidity is not bravery. It’s simply stupidity. A lot of people with big balls die. He is lucky he didn’t.

*_Serious Question_* : Where was his squad?
TheBraindead Ant His squad was pinned and he was going down the hill in the open to supress fire and make sure his squad can get to some where safe
TheBraindead Ant they left him because it was dinner time

I feel bad for this guy.. I was just waitin for his brothers to save him
tubeyou22973 He seemed very disorientated. First he opened fire out in the open and he didn't even know where to shoot at. Then he decided to walk down the hill. Apparently he changed his mind in the process and tried to go back up. I wonder how he felt in that moment.
Gled ShadowBroker It's hard to tell where fire is coming from sometimes, especially when you're caught in the open. You don't have time to look for it, the normal reaction is to put rounds in the most reasonable place. The guy was completely exposed and probably thought going lower would give him a better position. He started taking direct fire, as in rounds at his feet, which changed his mind. They had a good bead on him from that point, probably because he was moving, which gives away position. He likely tried going back up because there was really nowhere else to go and he made it to cover, just not in time. He was scared, but he kept moving.
Me too.
tubeyou22973 This guy went full video game mode and thought that he could be a sitting duck for a 5 minute trip down the mountain. When he says "I'm going down" the rest of the guys were probably like "WTF is this bro doing?" He also seemed pretty out of sight from the other guys.
F Scarecro Read the description. He was point descending the mountain with the LT. The rest got pinned down, and he ran into the open to draw fire so the squad could cover. He got hit four times, none fatal with no permanent injury.

Dylan Craig Ah, but I never said something about keeping them going. And I agree that I can't blame anything on said fairy tale, only on the people who choose to believe, and who choose to act out of their belief, in a harmful way towards others.
I only care if it's true or not, and so far, in the history of the world, nothing has happened that doesn't have a natural, explainable cause. So in not a single instance did a god have something to do with it. Again, I don't care how people benefit of it, I only care if it's true or not.

What a dumb thing to do! He was trying to be a hero to come down the hill with no cover. In the end he will be risking everyone’s lives to rescue his dumb mindset
The description explains it all
he is screaming i am hit but if his team came to help him they would be exposed to the same machinegun fire that nailed him and has him pinned in. best to let his team deal with the taliban then call for help otherwise his squad may become stressed or uneccesarily risk themselves for him which could result in more casualties.
fucking badass for taking those shots and keeping relatively calm tho.
according to description, he eventually just got up and went down to saftey after getting hit in the helmet, pretty badass

It isn't smart to put your life in the hands of this government anymore than it already is. Actually, it's pretty stupid.
Lol right some jackass leveled up in Call of Duty and now they think that they are combat experts.
Nope, no Call of Duty fanboy here, just a concerned American citizen who's eyes are wide open about this government and it's apathy towards the fighting men and women and the average citizen alike. My disillusion is based far more in reality than the patriotism built up in the minds of those who give their lives to this beast. Until Washington is squared away I see no honor in serving it.

The Army does not train us to move in the open to draw fire. A very poor decision on this Soldier's part. Fortunately, he survives.
Paul Carrier maybe u should read the discription under The video ?
Bluf, I read the caption. But stand by my comments that we don't train to "draw fire" and be a human target. When pinned down we call for Close Air Support or CAS to eliminate the threat.
Most importantly, he survived though.
He saved his people's life bro. Ever think of that, bet you wouldn't risk your life for the safety of your teammates
hush Paul is right about this. I dont think the guy im the video was taking the situation as serious as maybe he should until he had rounds tagging all around him

I see what he did wrong stayed out in the open and got hit. Then he threw his weapon down. He gave up. I'm a Veteran... to you new comers NEVER leave your weapon. It stays with you. It sleeps with you. If one arm is shot use the other arm. If you're hit, apply a tornaquit and stay in the fight!

Theres a lot of little rocks out there to twist your ankle on while you have 7.62's flyin at you while this guy is trying o make it a a rock he falls behind. Analyze the situation.
Right?! It didnt include having ample cover and terrian at all. This guy is extremly lucky to be alive.
I think he was drawing fire for his squad or something
Courageous soldier and hopefully, he's fully recovered from his physical injury. The mental trauma will be challenging.
I don’t know if you found out yet, but he wasn’t pierced at all. It says that he was shot 4 times in the chest, but due to his body armor, those 4 bullets did nothing but bruise him.
Always wear a helmet
@@cadrejeff he probably legit thought he was gonna die though
I've read comment somewhere about this video said this soldier still alive and now he became drill sargent
He’s certainly more courageous then I could ever be but I’m not exactly sure what he was trying to do here. He gives covering fire to his team that’s falling back but instead of withdrawing after a while he moves closer to the enemy and gets shot while in a wide open area facing the enemy. Then he starts to call his teammates back to help him. It seems like this was a poorly thought out plan.
Once he said im going down “by himself” i knew he was an easy target 🎯

You people don't know anything if you think this guy was stupid. He later said he was trying to help his squad move who was pinned down. Might sound stupid to you, but I think that's pretty brave
SyzbuH So him getting his own ass into trouble yelling 'help me' to his teammates, is considered a smart move in your book? Now they have to retrieve him back, risking being shot themselves. You cant be this impulsive in war, it'll get you and your other squad memebers killed. This man was reckless and clearly not trained probably.
SyzbuH he was in no better position than his team mates but he could have got on the high ground to his right at the beginning of the vid for one it had defilade against the enemy fire and he would have been able to support his team better from the high ground rule of thumb ad from the angle of most of the shots I would dare say the enemy was at a lower altitude and one more thing the guy did not commit to the path he had taken he responded like a dear in headlights to the sight of shots in front of him and he should have need sprinting not joging he is an at best amateur he don't think and he ain't got the balls to put his shit on the line that's why some people just ain't built for war and all the perks lol perks
