Very wise man... knowing when to quit, especially in this sport..... I've watched George on Joe's podcast and in other talk shows and he strikes me to be very level headed, especially in this fighting sport where aggression and competitiveness often overpower intellect.
That's why a lot of people still talk about Khabib, he retired a champion n undefeated with that 29-0 which is very rare, the name value is there..this is what exactly what GSP is talking about,.. everytime GSP got invited to a podcast or interviews, he's always asked about Khabib.
If only Conor and Ronda had supported the Union and helped push back against the Reebok deal back then they could have made a big difference! But because Reebok gave Ronda and Conor a special deal they supported it and went against the Union that GSP and other fighters were trying to make. That's why I hate it when uninformed people say Conor helped with fighter pay when he clearly didnt!
And now see who is happier today GSP and khabib or conor and ronda....The former are enjoying there retirement and all the money while later are frustrated and depressed with there careers..Ronda is doing wwe which is pure cringe while conor has completely lost his mind .
Probably, Khabib = being undefeated, never even got dropped or hurt, being P4P No.1 vs. GSP= having more title defenses, but getting finished 2 times and some split decision wins like Hendricks and BJ Penn, but never was P4P No.1 in official rankings, Also, in Khabib's defense, UFC didn't give Khabib title shot even after 9 wins, in 2016 Khabib deserved his title shot but they gave it to Conor and made him wait for 2 years, while GSP got his title shot after his 3rd UFC fight.
Never busted for roads maybe, but admittedly George used to blood spin which is basically like using EPO.. That being said, the playing field was definitely fair, everyone was on something, at least the ones at the highest level. Don't be fooled

@@infiniterer287 Well he's 42, which is relatively young for a person. Some people are still breaking athletic records in their 40s, it's rare, but it happens. However, while it might be pretty young overall, it's not young for most athletes at all. Most athletes have fallen off by 40, in fact most have fallen off way younger, some early 30s or mid 30s, so I get your point. GSP and Khabib didn't have that longevity though, and you need that to be the GOAT. Jon Jones for example is the best fighter in t he world in his mid to late 30s still, and he just crushed a heavyweight after not fighting for 3 years, not to mention it was his first heavyweight fight ever, that's what people need to do to be the GOAT. Khabib specifically retired way too early, but Khabib is not the type of guy to care about money or titles. He didn't care about the GOAT title. Khabib is absolutely insane too.
@@billj4525 I agree with most of what you said but the reason Khabib is on the GOAT list is kind of a quality vs quantity thing. Jones, DJ, and GSP have longer reigns true. GSP knows how to hold his ground while being balanced and reasonable. This is why even to this day Dana White and other fighters respect him a great deal even though Dana and the UFC brass used to buttheads with him regarding his pay and contract.
“It is lieing but its not lieing,” no dude it wasnt one of those business typa things, dana was blatantly lying, khabib still to this day after getting offered 100million he still wont do another fight. These guys are fighters before they’re businessmen and before fighters they are just men

Actually pretty sure GSP said that exact thing a long time ago as well... so not sure who said it first as far as UFC fighters, but it's a saying that goes way back, so likely neither took it from each other...
Sort of like when he came to fight the easiest 185 champ ever, said he was going to defend it, and made excuses not too. "It's all about the timing" - GSP
GSP is the G.O.A.T not only for the legacy he built inside the cage but for everything he continues to do outside the cage. Lives his life with a champions mindset years after leaving the UFC belt behind.
This is the greatest MMA fighter in history because he beat everyone he ever fought, he's take down defense was brilliant, his wrestling especially out in the open because his timing was sensational,His boxing was some of the best in UFC history, He's kicks were excellent also along with great bjj.The list of legends he fought and beat was amazing. He never failed a drug test in his career but fought and beat quite a few that were juicing.Left the Welterweight and Middleweight divisions as The Champion and really did seem to truly want to fight Khabib when khabib became Champion because Gsp was naturally a little smaller than khabib despite both being 5f 10i so he was willing to go down to 155 having fought against naturally bigger guys especially Bisping who was 6f 2i and was around 200 lbs on the night which Gsp said he was 186 but Dana and the powers that be in the Ufc knew that if George had fought Khabib 6 months after walking away as middleweight champ the chances were he'd have beaten Khabib and walked away again which would have left that division if khabib came and fought for the title against say Ferguson and won in the fans eyes the real Champion just walked away and that would have ended the greatest ever conversation for a long time in most people's minds. What i notice today is Gsp is finally getting his respect because he wins almost every poll of greatest ever UFC or MMA fighter in history which in my Humble opinion he is.Boxing has Ali and MMA had GSP.
He was definitely the goat. Not like khabib with a padded record or like Jones using steroids. Just natural talent, skill, and willingness to prove it. That's what makes a goat imo. It's easy to let people call you it and avoid the tough fights, it's another to take on the toughest challenges available just to prove it and without cheating.
What a wise man ! I always wondered why many great fighters keep fighting past their prime. The risk of physical and psychological injury is just too high to justify. Like GSP said nothing is more precious than mental and physical health.
It depends on the fighter. I mean guys like GSP and Khabib were some of the top fighters ever, and in a lot of other sports guys will keep going trying to be the best as they age if they feel they're very close to their prime. Khabib definitely had a lot of prime left as the top guy. You need to have that longevity like Jon Jones to be the GOAT. You need to show you're still the best fighter in your late 30s or later, or very close to the best still. So guys like that have a reason to keep fighting, that's if being the GOAT or one of the GOATS is important to them. Most fighters have no reason to risk their health and go on fighting past their prime or when they start falling off. GSP was falling off a bit, and likely couldn't have maintained his position the way Jon has, so I can understand his choice way more than Khabibs. Top top guys need that longevity to be the GOAT though, so those guys have a lot to think about. That said, your points and all have GSP's point are 100% valid.
Man imagine a Khabib-GSP fight at a catchweight of, say, 175 lbs. Their primes just missed one another but man, this was definitely one of sports what-ifs.
GSP doesn't have anything to prove. He dominated the WW division, beat several HoF. Won the MW belt. I wish he defended the MW belt against Whitaker or fought Khabi but Dana didn't want GSP around anymore.
Only if tyron Woodley retire before Usman fight. People would've regarded him quite high too. But he was stupid to keep on fighting at that age, without enough motivation toward the sports and now he is just a laughing stock.
I've never been more satisfied knowing a fight we'll never see is between the two GOATS who knew when to pack it up. It's so heartbreaking to see other champions, Liddell/Tito/Rampage/etc. limp to the ring having taped their ACL's together and weighing more than they'd ever fought at because they couldn't pass up the money offered and gamble with their health like that. I'm very grateful to have watched them growing up, don't get me wrong however, their's something to turning it down that highlights excellence beyond the physical realm.
That fight was never realistic at all it was just blown up by fans and media because they were the 2 best at the time and only 1 weight class difference. Anderson was at 185 and big for the weight class he fought at 205 several times while GSP was not a big welterweight. Ik he beat Bisping and became Champ at Middlweight but that was a lot of planning he added a ton of muscle mass over time to be able to be big enough it wasnt a good weight for him. During his prime years fighting he wouldnt have done that it would have screwed up his career at 170
@Andrew Vazquez Chael also had 17x the normal amount of Testerone of a normal man, while Silva had a hurt rib. Not saying that GSP wouldn't have won, but people like to bring up Chael but that's a HUGE factor. Chael was juiced to the brim and Anderson still won. Anderson destroyed him in the second fight.
Ha, GSP and Dana is basically how most business situations in life are when you're being smart and trying to do what's best for yourself. The other party is doing the same thing so they're going to run angles on you to try and make you do what works for them. Sometimes including some bullshit. No point getting mad about the "lying", you just analyze it and respond in a way that works for you or just say no thanks.
@@bbginc694 GSP also had 15 title fights. Fought many different styles and even moved up in weight. Khabib has 4 title fights. Only FOUR. Only defended against one style (kickboxers) and never moved up. He doesn't have the longevity that gsp had. Never challenged himself. Didn't fight long enough to go through adversity. 29 and 0 doesn't look that good when you only fought 3 top level fighters.
I don’t understand why anyone even says Khaba fought only 4 title fights, he absolutely destroyed every opponent, there is nobody today that can challenge him and wont be for a long time Khaba dominated everyone in a way that was just unbelievable We all heard how everyone was saying Connor will win and couldn’t do anything, than Justin, Dustin. You are the Greatest Of All Time.
I don't think most people can imagine the level of stress during the week before a fight. I know from having to walk out on a stage and play classical masterpieces to a dead silent audience . The stress is huge . The night before is always the worst. When I am walking onto the stage I tell myself at least I don't have to sing or even worst, be in a fight, That would be real stress. GSP said he trained so hard for fear of getting knocked out in front of millions of people.
I have a ton of respect for GSP. One of the few guys in the sport who retired on top. It's so sad watching legends come back and lose over and over again until injuries and age permanently retire them without choice. God knows we've seen more than our share of that.
I remember after that Johnny Hendricks fight, GSP was never the same. He was taking way more shots and I think the pressure finally got to him. He looks and sounds so much more healthy.
but my friend, after Hendricks he retired, and only once fought afterwards (he won against Bisping, and took the 2nd belt)! So when was he taking those shots???
UFC would've never made it a title fight. They only wanted to materialize that fight only after Khabib announced his retirement. UFC wanted to squeeze out the money as much as possible.
GSP could never make 155. He was a full sized welterweight that fought most recently at middleweight. The fight would have been at a catch weight most likely.
I would love to see the two fight, but for GSP health please stay retired. Gsp dominated clean in an era of steroid and testosterone users. GSP took a lot of damage because the sport wasn’t being regulated especially for the health and safety of their fighters. Interviews now compared to just a few years ago, GSP has shown mass improvements in brain cognition and overall enjoyment in life. GSP has given us, the fans enough. He deserves a life of happiness and riches. GSP is one of the most respected, if not the most respected and honest fighters to grace the octagon. Thank you sir.

6:28 I disagree Vince McMahon is the best promoter in the world, who else can take a fake sport, with an over the top product and turn into a billion dollar business.
Vince had a lot of advantages. 1. Wrestling was already somewhat popular across the United States when he got in. 2. Vince had had full control of the shows he promotes. The UFC was losing money and treated like dirt in the sport community when Dana got in, plus he can't control who wins, who says what, or how to book for the future. Definitely an apples to oranges comparison.
Gsp comes from a civilised and privileged society. Khabib comes from a place where they resist change and follows religious extremism. It just cultures. Khabib has his own merits and gsp has his own. Nobody is perfect.
Except Khabib never did that either. The homeless man was begging. In Russia, ppl dont beg to eat, they work. So Khabib's cousin asked him to at least do some push-ups to earn the money. Khabib recorded the spectacle from behind a cafe/restaurant window where he was sitting, laughing at how his cousin was trying to impart their work ethic values even on an american homeless person.
@@KnowledgeNorth I get you're a khabib fan, and will spin it however possible to protect his name... but there's no denying that incident showed a lack of class and respect from a multi millionaire world champion.
@@casual9982 its got nothing to do with being a fan. Notions of class and respect are subjective. Begging is frowned up in many cultures outside the US, esp if the person begging in the state he is due to alcoholism or a drug habit. But the main point is, you simply gave a false report. Khabib never made him do a single pushup. He was in a buidling watching as bystander. As for being charitable to those in need, check out his work in Africa, building schools and water wells with his own money.
Honestly, when you compare the resumes, Khabib does not deserve to be mentioned in a comparative sense with GSP. Khabib was good - but he had 3 name brand wins and they were not dramatically impressive. GSP fought and eliminated every single big name of his time without exception. Divisional GOAT for sure - possibly UFC GOAT.
Just to clarify, because Pierre didn’t come right out and say it, I’ll explain. Near the beginning of the video when he said that the UFC didn’t want to risk Georges fighting Khabib because they wanted Khabib to keep fighting, is because if Georges beat Khabib, then it’s like the emperor has no clothes. Khabib is no longer thought of as the top guy. He would be thought of as number 2. Khabib was a cash cow for the UFC at the time and Pierre beating him would put a stop to that. It’s like in the WWE when there’s politics of who and when the top guy is going to be, all about money.

Soo true! Connor helped only himself with fighter pay & thats why Dana loves him & never holds GSP In the same regard.

Probably,
Khabib = being undefeated, never even got dropped or hurt, being P4P No.1
vs.
GSP= having more title defenses, but getting finished 2 times and some split decision wins like Hendricks and BJ Penn, but never was P4P No.1 in official rankings,
Also, in Khabib's defense, UFC didn't give Khabib title shot even after 9 wins, in 2016 Khabib deserved his title shot but they gave it to Conor and made him wait for 2 years, while GSP got his title shot after his 3rd UFC fight.
Never busted for roads maybe, but admittedly George used to blood spin which is basically like using EPO.. That being said, the playing field was definitely fair, everyone was on something, at least the ones at the highest level. Don't be fooled

At his age? He's young, yo!! You made it sound like he's in his 10000's.
@@Merark1 lol he's not "young" but he's not old either...
But Khabib was technically more dominant than them in the fact that he didn't even lose rounds, let alone fights. So I think he's still 3rd or 4th all time.
Of course as a fan we always want more but what a superb action GSP and Khabib did. Retired on top level and a load of great opportunities waiting on side door

humble, wise, love hearing him speak. just the greatest of all time. a credit to the sport.
GSP knows how to hold his ground while being balanced and reasonable. This is why even to this day Dana White and other fighters respect him a great deal even though Dana and the UFC brass used to buttheads with him regarding his pay and contract.
This is why to me, GSP will always be the absolute goat and perfect rode model. An incredible human inside and outside the octagon!
“It is lieing but its not lieing,” no dude it wasnt one of those business typa things, dana was blatantly lying, khabib still to this day after getting offered 100million he still wont do another fight. These guys are fighters before they’re businessmen and before fighters they are just men
True, but ppl like GSP and Khabib are also a business and they can sell their products to this day, why? Bcuz what GSP was talking about - reitre on top b4 the game retires you.
By far and away my two favorite fighters based on how intelligent and deep thinking they are. So glad they both went out on top and had their iconic moments in the octagon.
GSP is one of the most intelligent fighters I have ever seen. So calculating in his choices. Good for him for letting his mind make decisions for him and not his ego. One of the most deserving champions at the top of a short list.

What a wise man ! I always wondered why many great fighters keep fighting past their prime.
The risk of physical and psychological injury is just too high to justify.
Like GSP said nothing is more precious than mental and physical health.
Especially with a solid gold house an endless supply of money. Various rocket cars.
Then money doesn’t matter atball.
THIS IS WHY HE IS A GOAT FOR ME!!! SMART GUY AND SOLID MAN AND HUMAN BEING.
GSP is very smart to retire the way he did.

Gsp and khabib are goats. And have u seen that Whitaker/GSP interaction after gsp beat bisping?
Only if tyron Woodley retire before Usman fight. People would've regarded him quite high too. But he was stupid to keep on fighting at that age, without enough motivation toward the sports and now he is just a laughing stock.

I see Khabib and Gsp have similar thoughts on retiring is very important part to your physical health.

That's some serious nuggets from the legendary GSP. Respect this perspective on retiring.
I don't think most people can imagine the level of stress during the week before a fight.
I know from having to walk out on a stage and play classical masterpieces to a dead silent audience . The stress is huge . The night before is always the worst.
Definitely an apples to oranges comparison.
nobody cares about wwe other then some americans
Plus MMA was considered too cruel, so big arenas in US wouldn’t even allow it. The road of UFC was definitely a hard one
Gsp is so well spoken spitting some facts. I hope younger fighters, and athletes for that matter, take this to heart.
I don't think GSP would EVER make a homeless person do pushups for a stupid video.. GSP is the greatest hands down.

What a wise man...
7:00 ..55 billion? No 😂😂😂😂
GSP is the man! He did things right inside and outside of the ring.
GSP is not only a legendary champion, but also a true gentleman
