  • If there’s one thing that affects speed by which our muscles can contract, it’s the load. Load is any weight applied to or carried by our muscles. If we push or lift any object, then we are talking about load. Now, our muscles can contract faster when there is no load; hence, it’s easier to lift our hands above our heads when they are not holding anything. The heavier the load is, the longer the latent period will be, and hence, the contraction will come slow.
