- Feeding a baby great horned owl at approximately 4 days of age. Wildlife rehabilitator, Martin Tyner, of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation is feeding it small pieces of a mouse. Normally the baby owl's mom and dad would catch mice, voles, squirrels or bunnies to feed their babies, pulling tiny pieces to feed their young until they become old enough to pull at it themselves. Soon they will be eating mice whole.
This baby's nest was blown from its tree in Tropic Utah and brought to the SWF for care.
Check back for more updates as the baby grows.

Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.
The poor baby looks so helpless and vulnerable. It surely would have died if it wasn't saved. Thank you so much for your great work to save these amazing animals!
Thank you Nigel!
Precious it doesn’t even have its little eyes open yet and the noise it makes is really awesome and you guys are so great to take care of it and all the others you work with I enjoy watching all your beautiful videos
Thank you Veronica
what a precious little sweetheart ♥️💕♥️💕♥️. propped up like an easel on those feet 🤗🤗🤗
They are all kinds of cute!
You guys do such great work!
Great work! I have three that decided my chicken coop was an owl coop and anything living inside was food. Now they won’t leave so I just feed them. Hope to see more babies next year :)
I miss eggs but they sure are cool birds 😎
It's like a tiny killer marshmallow :3
The “tiny killer marshmallow” must be one of my favourite RUclips-videos of all time! Just look at the little guy! Those feet alone, this video is now more than five years old, they must have grown into powerful talons by now, and I find it absolutely adorable how you can almost hear the feeder say, "Come on, one more!", until the baby is really stuffed to enable it to grow into a big wonderful bird. I wonder how the little guy might look today.
O my goodness so sweet
Thanks for your interest Kim!
Not now, Mom, I'm trying to nap! That might be the cutest thing I've ever seen! Thanks for the vid!!
Definitely a cutie!
1:40 🐥 “What are you doing !! What are you doing !!::shoves food in beak:: ...”Ohhh!! Nom nom 😋!!”...
big bites!
TOO CUTE.
He’s like let me sleep 😴 🦅
Yay for Martin!
hahahaha adorable.
Awww 😍
aww! it almost look like dragon giffion. cute!
Now that's a way to Properly Stuff a Bird.
Those little ones need a whole lot of food!
Could not have been in better hands.
Besides momma... ;-)
Impressive!
He's so cute. To me he looks like a cross between a bear and a duckling.
A whole lot different than the adult version, for sure!
That is the cutest thing. I am assuming it’s mother met with a terrible fate.
It's not easy in the wild...
❤️❤️❤️🦉
The egg tooth with which it broke the egg shell is still clearly visible
A young one!
@@GowildlifeOrg I do not understand what you mean.
God it's so small and fluffy. Still looks like it could rip one of my fingers off with those little talons tho
Small, fluffy and tough!
At what temperature should they be at in Fahrenheit?
😍😍😍🤩
😊😊👌👌
I found a couple of baby owls and I don’t know what to feed them.. please give some advice! I’d hate to have these little guys die :/
You will need to call your local Fish & Game office or police dispatch. It is not legal to hold those owls.
Yes I did get in contact with someone that protects and cares for wild life
Why force him/her to eat?
No human is actually that stupid.
He’s not being forced to eat he’s brand new out of the shell he’s hungry can’t see so they have to put the food in front of his beak for him to open his mouth when he stops taking it they stop offering it
I saved a owl like this one from crazy crow. But this bird is not taking food by himself.I keep him open but he is not flying eating nothing.so i am feeding him like a mother bird do.what can i do now?
If i leave him alone in jungle he will not survive.please give me suggestion.I am giving beef as food.
+Raju Tasneem What did you end up doing with the owl?
+RivaLCF I hear they make a great baby owl stew!
+Leo Scarpoli You must hear from foul mouths then.
