I was at this game. Aaron Shea with the greatest block I've ever seen in my life at any level of football ever! He took out 3 defenders,putting 2 of them on their butts! Incredible! 12:48!
I had forgotten what an incredible up and down season this was for us. Started with 2 losses, and not *really* all that close, either...and then 8 straight wins, culminating in this one...and then a tough loss to OSU in Columbus...then a W @Hawaii game (I remember them playing Hawaii after OSU a couple of times -- at least I think so -- always thought this was bizarre)...and then a convincing win over #11 Arkansas in the Citrus Bowl to finish 10-3 (7-1), with a share of the B10 title.
@GoongalaGoongala That's basically what happened. Michigan, Wisconsin and OSU all shared the conference title that year but Wisconsin went to the Rose Bowl only because Michigan and OSU had been there more recently. That little tie breaker rule didn't last much longer.
12:49 Greatest block in Michigan football history. Looking at this game, aside from appeasement issue, how in the world did Brady not start all of 1999? Probably cost UM a NC doing so.
Take away those first two games against Notre Dame and Syracuse, and that '98 team turned in a very good season. We can only wonder what might have been had Marcus Ray been available all season. And if Charles Woodson had stayed...ah, well. A great era with great memories! GO BLUE!
@LMCMInterloper wrong. What Michigan had no business doing was losing so badly to Notre Dame and Syracuse at the start of that season. The experience of those tough early games helped them beat Wisconsin and Penn State soundly towards the end of that year.
@LMCMInterloper You can't be serious. Wisconsin had beaten just 2 teams with winning records all year coming in to this game. They were not battle tested at all playing a pathetic non-conference schedule and they didn't have to play Ohio State. You could see this win coming from miles away. The media was right when they said we won this because of experience. Michigan was used to playing big games, Wisconsin was not. And it certainly showed.
What I remember abt this game Ron Dayne broke a record in the first half and unbroke it in the second half he was definitely scared to play against Michigan man we ruled the 1990 and early 2000 against all the big ten ! Go Blue!!!
As a side note, as much as I LOVE the Red Wings...I really wish Michigan fans would leave the red jackets in their closets when opponents who have RED as their primary color visit Michigan Stadium. Some examples of it here...and I saw it this past season when I was at the OSU game.
The big ten tie breaker rule. Where the team with the longest rose bowl drought. Gets the nod regardless of head to head. Screwed Mich this year. Even though the Badgers finished with a better overall record. And Wisconsin/OSU didn't have to play. OSU always seemed to avoid good big ten teams like northwestern in 95 an 96.
@WolverineHistorian You wouldn't believe how many people I've told about your channel on RUclips. I've even shared links with the old-timers whose seats are right in front of us at the Big House.
Remember watching this beating...I believe it was two years in a row where Michigan beat the Badgers, but the Badgers did not play ohio state and went on to the rose bowl

Anything better than a bewildered Barry.
I know I said it before tai streets made big plays and it was big to get Marcus Ray back he really stablelized the defense
The A-Train was one of my favorites to have ever played for the Wolverines...

That theme song is 🔥. The nostalgia

If "Upon Further Review" existed in 1998 Aaron Shea would get a record +4 for the play at 12:45, Best. Block. Ever.

@WolverineHistorian True that...true that.
Sets the standard for MGoBlocks
Idk how this team didn’t go back to back. They only loss Woodson Griese & Steele

@MrDunedon He was completely thrown off over not having to play a cupcake opponent.
How many yards did Dayne have?
Another underwhelming Michigan season should of competed for back to back championship with this team.😢
What was up with Dayne that day? Wow...he played stupid. Good for us.
@rryants 53
Michigan beat Wisconsin same year Badgers won Rose 🌹 😳 Bowl 🥣. Too bad Ohio State and Wisconsin didn't play this year. Some year for Big Ten
