GeneralAgrippa When this game aired in 1997, I had been following Michigan football for over 20 years. This was the most dominant game I had seen from a Michigan team.
if that doesn't wet your appetite, you're watching the wrong channel... The last time that Brian Griese ran that far, his father was chasing him with a stick. Simply the best announcer ever
This was such a huge weekend. I remember Michigan was #4 in the AP (miss those good old poll days!) and Penn State #2. Nebraska barely (and illegally) survived against Mizzou so when Michigan crushed, absolutely crushed the Nittany Lions they jumped to #1. As a 13 year old that season I remember cutting out the AP poll every Sunday from the Ann Arbor News (an actual newspaper!) and would out it on the fridge. That was such a magical season.
@@Jon.A.Scholt I was 13 years old as well. I will never forget the "catch kick" (Now Nebraska coach, Scott Frost) celebrated like crazy. We so deserved the National Championship but it was Tom Osbourne's last year and of course the Coaches Poll sided with them. Still 1997 was a great year
@@DMichiganWol21 I was furious that Phil Fulmer voted Michigan #4 in his final coaches poll because he was mad woodson won the Heisman over Manning. I have hated him ever since. But yes, '97 was a once in a lifetime season (well, hopefully not!)
This was a huge day of college football too. Michigan and Penn State, Nebraska barely got by a determined Missouri team (kicked ball) and Florida State beat UNC in a matchup of two top five teams that night. The ultimate Survival Saturday.
D Taylor, a light hearted, good spirited hitter from Texas, gave up a vertebrae and a promising Pro Career for the Program. Thanks "DT" Your Desire, Ferocity and Sacrifice will tough to be duplicated. Go Blue.
Someone should have made watching this tape compulsory for Rich Rodriguez before his first day on the job. "See that thing that prevents the other team from scoring and moving the ball well? That's called 'defense.'"
McQueary was stupid for calling out Woodson the week leading up to the game. The bigger the stage, the better #2 played. Perhaps the most complete performance I have ever witnessed a Michigan team put together.
It wasn't that Michigan won that stunned me. It's how they did it. I thought Michigan would win, but I had it as a touchdown game, not a 26-point game.
After this game ABC immediately cut to that game because they saw it as a potential upset. As a soccer fan i was excited by the play although i was also disappointed that now there were three undefeated teams. They had an "online poll" after the game on ABC's website that night asking people who was number one, about 60-70% said Michigan.
I remember this. The day was slated as Judgment Day and Missouri should have beaten NU, while UNC lost to the Seminoles and Michigan obviously beat an overrated PSU team and should have been #1 from this point on, but they only split the title based on the fact that the Huskers coach was retiring that year, but it's cool.
@currym0606 DAT DUDE SUFFERED LIKE TWO CRACKED VERTEBRAE'S N WAS LUCKY TO EVEN WALK AGAIN....DAMN,TALKN BOUT SELLN OUT FOR YA TEAM.THAT DUDE SHULDA HAD A STATUE MADE AFTER DAT.....GOTTA B BEST HIT EVER!!!!
Haha anyone else realize this game was played the same day of the Nebraska/Mizzou 'kick' game??.... One fluke play away from an outright National Championship
@@jamesbowen8960 I can remember the 1999 Alamo Bowl, his last game on the sidelines. They shut out Texas A&M and they carried him off the field. At the time I thought it was pretty cool. Oh, if only we'd known then what we know now, I'd have felt very differently.
@WolverineHistorian Oh yes, now I see. @ 7:22 It looks like he's yelling to his little boyfriend "Getback in the shower and keep your mouth shut!" WE ARE PENNIS STATE!
This was the game that defined this 1997 team. Went into Happy Valley and crushed the Lions. Brings back so many great memories.
Best game I've ever seen Michigan play. This game is reason #1 why there shouldn't have been a split title. They were world beaters.

Keith Jackson always has the best openings!
This was one of the most dominating performances I ever saw my whole life! Amazing!
Demetrios Manos totally agree. Our D was flying all over the place.

I was at this game and have never seen two teams unload on each other like this. The weather was foul and cold. What a fun game!
The Hit.... Gives me shivers every time.
R.I.P Keith Jackson

5:57 lol Jurivicius wanted a flag for that, that was perfect coverage
man I miss Keith Jackson calling Michigan games
One of the most dominant games in Michigan history. Taylor lost his career on that one play against Stephenson. Unbelievable.
5:35 is thee hardest hit I’ve ever seen… Pro or College.
I remember watching this in my living room as a kid back in Grand Rapids Michigan. Dammm.
I forgot just how many guys who played in the NFL Michigan had on that team
"...and of course, Joe Paterno's been here forever." IN NINETEEN NINETY SEVEN.
This game had my all time favorite Keith Jackson line. At 6:42: "and the last time Brian Griese ran that far his Dad was chasing him with a stick!"
WUT EVER HAPPENED TO GLEN STEELE N JARETT IRONS???DEY WAS BEASTS ON THE DEFENSE MID N LATE 90'S
Man, was this team special or what? What a fun season.

Chris Kreager Michigan destroyed them that day.
@Sherpaful He's shown after TD's by Charles Woodson and Chris Howard but I edited them when I put this together.

Keith Jackson “If that doesn’t wet your appetite, your watching the wrong channel.” Classic.

The win that moved us up to #1 in the nation
5:17 yea that is andre weathers from flint, michigan
@Wood97son I think he was sacked 5 times that night. But everyone remembers the Steele sack the most.
5:35..... BOOM. Still hurts me to watch it all these years later.
I miss Keith Jackson. One of the GOAT
He will always be the voice of college football. When it comes to college football he's the GOAT!
like 👍 always I was glad 😃 Michigan won 🥇 something extra got into them this game and I was glad 😃
great pick by Beano Cook before this game. No way Michigan can beat Penn State. Uh-huh.
Chris Zwiener Beano Cook was the biggest idiot in college football.
1:08 🐐 sighting
Love you and miss you Keith! Also, at 1:09 is that Tom Brady?
Yes
Tom Brady sighting at 1:07 hahaha
History will repeat
@hindupushup68 I watched this on a tv about 20-25 miles from there in St. Marys, Ohio. =)

You know, for a Lloyd Carr-era QB, Brian Griese sure could run.
At the time, I believe this was the most lopsided loss Penn State ever suffered at happy valley (with Paterno as coach)
go to the 5:20 mark in the video. best hit ever neither player ever played again!
Stephenson is the vice principle at my high school
The Defensive Cordinator for Penn State had a lousy day!
Did he say Penn State thought they would have success against the secondary? Charles Woodson cut the field in half.
Wonder what Woodson would have done had he just played offense. Probably All-American. He had it all.
Good eye!
Michigan Wolverines Starting Lineups: he wasn't a starter
yep
Haha anyone else realize this game was played the same day of the Nebraska/Mizzou 'kick' game??....
One fluke play away from an outright National Championship
I didn't see Jerry Sandusky. He must've been back in the shower room.
7:21 mark
Michigan WOLVERINES vs penn state Nittany lions 1997 Keith Jackson bob griese lynn Swann
