My driving instructor had a foolproof method for parallel parking - nearly 30 years ago now - its simplicity blew my mind at the time and I’ve never forgotten it. Your video reminds me of that old lesson so much. Pull up parallel to the front car, making sure the back of both cars are perfectly aligned. Turn the wheel and reverse until your near-side wing mirror passes the back of the other car. The second your wing mirror passes, you turn your wheel fully in the other direction. You’ll end up nicely aligned to the kerb. Those two little tips: aligning the backs of the cars and then waiting for the wing mirror to pass, have served me well since then. Parallel parking is absolutely my favourite manoeuvre. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos, I always love them and learn so much.
same the method i learned was to line up the side mirrors with the car in front of you and turn the wheel one full turn and back up till you're at a 45 degree angle then turn the wheel fully in the opposite direction and back up
@@stevenraeburn8178 The back of the other car: so you line up next to the parked car, your car parallel to their car, then you reverse with the steering wheel turned, then when you wing mirror passes the back of the other car you turn your steering wheel in the opposite direction.
It's all about explanation and simplicity. You need your learner to fully understand, so they need to feel open enough to ask any questions they have. The way you explained it is perfect. If anyone is struggling, screenshot this mans comment and practise, it's exactly how you parallel park.

It's hard to explain on a message but directly to the side is 90 so half way there. Although 45 is the absolute maximum. Don't aim for 45 degrees just put a reasonable angle on that will get you to the curb. Even if you only have 20 degrees you will still make it. My advice, most people put too much angle on, less is more.

One small trick I found very useful to judge your angle in the "Angle On" part is to look at the side mirror opposite to the curb. When you can see both the side and the front of the car parked behind you the angle is correct and you can straighten the wheels. Struggled a lot in my driving lessons because the instructor and relatives kept saying 45 degrees, but I couldn't visualize that in my head. Hope this helps

@@liubomirwmI tried something similar to it with a learner yesterday and it worked well. We were parking into bay marked on the ground with white paint. so I told her when she could see all of the front of the marked bay to the curb in her driver’s side mirror, her angle was enough.
Passed a month ago. I got parralel park and emergency stop on my test. Passed first time with no faults. Very happy with that. Now I'm learning to reverse on my own.
I had been been watching your videos before my test. Your videos especially this one are really helpful! Before watching your videos I sucked at parallel parking cause I didn't know what reference points I could look to. Your explanation is really clear! I passed my test today with a pretty good parallel parking. So thank you very much!
Your vids are really good advice. Of course everything is flipped but it really doesnt matter. I passed my german driving exam like a week ago and had learnt to park good enough to pass obv. But for the city parking its just not enough. Thanks i'll put all your nifty tricks to the test and hopefully become better at parking.
Because of vids like this, I smashed out a perfect parallel park on my test this monday gone (3rd feb 2020) so thank u very much. Passed first time after 29hrs of driving with just 5 minors (2id argue but not worth it, 3 I sadly earnt lol!) And I was so nervous my tester had to tell me to breathe! But these vids really helped so much so a massive thank u again!
You are real for what learners are looking for when they are parking. Thank you very much for all tips 🙏🙏🙏 . My driving test will be in Australia lol on Monday.
Thank you Richard, I passed my G2 driving test in Ontario today! Parallel park was the reason I had failed my first attempt. Your videos helped immensely. In fact, your video here is the only thing that helped. The angle-on, get-there, angle-off method using wing mirrors to gauge distance. Thank you.
This is a reason why parallel parking can seem intimidating and nerve-wracking for a lot of drivers, even experienced. I suppose it's a necessity if you're going to live in London, since it seems like many households don't have driveways/bays. This video was really helpful as always! Even though I have to kinda hold my breath!
Love your videos. Most of the other videos on youtube just say how to pass the test. Yours is more practical which increases the confidence of the driver and that is the most important.
I feel that with my first instructor 7 years ago 😅 my new instructor teaches it more simply. My first instructor was tbf excellent with the mechanics of driving and taught me more complex stuff than my current one. But I think it may have over complicated things for me
Hi Richard, you are the best trainer ever I have come across. My bad luck I can’t get you as my instructor but you are my idol. Thank you for helping us.
Very good advice about parallel parking. I am usually quite good at this, although sometimes I have to try again, but not much. I am not so good at forward bay parking, so I shall watch the videos again and again. My Instructor does not like dry Steering though, I have to start moving before I steer.
Thank you, dry steering makes it easier, cars have power steering these days which makes it easier. I have videos on dry steering if you're interested in searching for them.
@Richard Just wanted to thank you for your incredibly helpful videos on Conquer Driving. I watched all of them and they made a huge difference in my driving journey. The video and explanation you provided was very meaningful and not just like remember mspl or third link reverse bay parking instead like “angle on” get there “ angle off” or speed gear etc etc was especially useful and played a crucial role in helping me pass my test. Am thrilled to share that I passed my driving test today at the Borehamwood Test Centre.. 50% credit goes to you for clarifying so many doubts in your videos… it is so much logical and very easy to understand… I really appreciate all the effort you put into your content. Thanks a lot for everything and helping me pass.. Can you now pls help me which car to buy as a second hand cheap and affordable and reliable one pls. Am sure your help will be appreciated in this regard.

Need more driver instructor like him however I have a female who's equally good as him. Brilliant to watch you. And thank you very very much for all you advice and support etc.
I used to teach full left lock, until my pupil was asked to do the manoeuvre in a narrow road. Try 1 slow turn until your mirror is level with the brake light of the other car, less likely to hit the opposite curb. I love the videos . Regards Simon Henson ADI Kings Lynn

Thanks so much for this video, I’ve been driving just over a year since I passed my test and I’m still not greatly confident with reversing, I will definitely try this technique as it looks much easier!!
Just a quick thank you for all your videos. I am working my way through them to help rebuild my confidence after being hit head-on at 50mph by a drunk driver 3 times over limit . Recovery from most of the physical injuries took almost a year (knee and leg damage and pain is permanent), however, the psychological damage is taking longer ... the accident was 3 years ago! I did force myself to start driving again 6 months after the event, but it is going to take some time to regain confidence and self-belief. BTW I can't stop driving as we're in a rural area with no public transport and no shops. Shame you're 110 miles away in Colchester!
I failed my 1st attempt at passing but I am watching your videos and they seem to be really popular I will use this method if I get parallel park again as I failed on that area
Thank you so much for sharing these videos. You are really good at explaining👏. Your videos are helping me so much. I have got my test in 2 weeks. I have my lessons with my instructor and keep watching your videos for mental rehearsal. 😊🚗
Thankyou sooooo much for making this video!!! After watching a dozen videos on parallel parking, your video is hands down THE BEST so far. Elaborately explained with all the alternatives and 'if' situations which the other videos lacked. I am from USA where it's a right side driving but I had no problem applying your instructions. My test is in two days so fingers crossed! 🤞🏽
Each time when coming back to watch your videos, there is always something more to learn from. A long waiting list here to do the driving test after a few lockdowns, but it allows me to review your videos over and over again. Thanks for these clear and less complicated explanations.
My driving instructor taught me this way: align the near side back window (the little one behind the passenger's seat's window) with the rear headlight of the vehicle near you. Then steer completely, reverse until you can see the logo of the car (if not present you can easily judge the center, there's some wiggle room), straighten the wheels, go back until you have space, make sure you check the mirror of course, then boom, you're done. It sounds contorted but trust me, it's easier said then done. I was told you can do even really narrow parkings effortlessly by following this method. I was terrible at it, but after several repetitions I managed to surprise the examiner who was genuinely impressed. The main flaw I noticed is it really depends on a vehicle, we have a car that is pretty boxy in the rear, so I have to adjust some reference points. But if your car type (brand doesn't matter) matches the driving school's, you should be completely fine. Which seems to be true considering I tried it with my dad's car and it does apply to that.
I am an old guy and I passed my driving test way back in 1965, in those days the cars that we had did not have power steering so the turn while stationary was very difficult and we had to reverse and move, l also had to do hand signals throughout the test as well as use the indicators, the clutches on cars were a bit temperamental and not as easy to use as today`s cars. But we did not have the theory test and I think that the test had less in it, we had to reverse round a corner and keep within a certain distance from the kerb, we had to do a reverse park and the turn in the road, if we touched the kerb, you failed. That was a terrific instructional video, my father owned his own driving school so I had a good teacher. I think that you are too.
Thank you. Cars were definitely harder to drive back then. Easier now but the roads already more challenging which leads to anxiety in many new drivers. Today, you can touch the curb and pass, as long as it's gently. A word with the curb is ok but an argument or a mount is not.
wow thank you man this video is very helpful, I wish I have a driving instructor like you, mine has no patience at all and always yell and make me confused even more.
Thanks for this. No wonder I find the drivers a bit rude here... that they speed by people when they are trying to park or pull out from a parking spot. What I mean by this, is if no one is coming when I start to pull out from a spot, polite drivers would stop (or so I thought). Having lived where lived in the US for years, where most drivers were polite (by US driving standards), few people would slip past. The person parking or pulling out has the right away once they have begun to do either with no cars initially in view. Now, I won't make this error--born out of misunderstanding as to what it means to be polite (politeness is on the other foot here)--when I take my exam.
Been watching this for a few times to do this today, should hopefully get on well , I'm glad I can see the mirror from your driving view as I can sort of tell the angles better, wish me luck lol
Just finding problems when I have to straighten up, I see the triangle in the mirror I just don't know how small the triangle itself has to be , I'm sure the mark when to turn is when the back door handle touches the curb or when the bottom of the mirror either touches the curb or when it's in the middle of the number plate on the next car , a bit long in explaining I know loo
I done a few independent today, I didn't touch the curb, I was literally about a drains width, so I wasn't on the side of the road ( that bit between the road and the curb, i don't know what that's called ) , would that be fine or do I need to be on the side bit of road ?
@@jamesfzj2495 how big the triangle is going to be will depend on how low you set the mirror. You want to feel like you're near the curb but not at risk of hitting it. You need to be closer than half a metre from the curb for the test but you want to aim for a higher standard. A drains width is perfect for the test as it gives you a margin for error. Once you have passed you will want to be parking within about 10 cm for so.
I might be setting it too low , I found when the door handle was actually on the curb , not just touching the curb, was when I'd start straightening the wheel and that's got me within 10cm , so no more than half a metre would be ok on test? Appreciate the replies by the way 👍

@@liubomirwmI tried something similar to it with a learner yesterday and it worked well. We were parking into bay marked on the ground with white paint. so I told her when she could see all of the front of the marked bay to the curb in her driver’s side mirror, her angle was enough.
@@ConquerDriving did you try it out?
Been watching the videos non stop !
Passed my theory and starting the parallel this week
I’m binge watching your videos as I have my first driving lesson on Friday.... your videos seem to help even though I have no clue what I’m doing
You by far the best instructor. This video is quite clear and excellent. Thank you
I love how this guy talks
Passed a month ago. I got parralel park and emergency stop on my test. Passed first time with no faults. Very happy with that. Now I'm learning to reverse on my own.
I hope the videos help.
@@ConquerDriving just need to brush up on parallel park and reverse bay. Then I will take my P plates off
I had been been watching your videos before my test. Your videos especially this one are really helpful! Before watching your videos I sucked at parallel parking cause I didn't know what reference points I could look to. Your explanation is really clear! I passed my test today with a pretty good parallel parking. So thank you very much!
That's great to hear, congratulations on passing!
Good tip about checking your "angle on" by looking in front rather than behind! Never occurred to me.
You're welcome ☺
I want to just give you a huge hug for this. You just made everything soooo easy. Thank you! 😊😊😊
Richard, you are a genius driving instructor! Thank you for your videos. 😊
OMG have looking for this detail parking for so long. Watched so many videos on youtube yet still found difficult until seen yours video. Thank you.
Thank you and you're more than welcome.
That's great news! I'm happy to hear I helped you. :)
Janet Othen just before lockdown, lucky you 😅
@@olivesjohnson9455 very lucky they started cancelling tests just 2weeks and a few days later. Still almost impossible to get a test now.
Thanks alot, You are a perfect driving instructor on earth!!! Your explanations are clear and easy to understand for someone like me.
You are real for what learners are looking for when they are parking. Thank you very much for all tips 🙏🙏🙏 . My driving test will be in Australia lol on Monday.
Thank you! Good luck on Monday!
Thank you.
That's really great to hear! Thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!
@@ConquerDriving thank you!
That's really nice to hear, thank you.
This is a helpful video, which actually starts at 3.20
My instructor made this manoeuvre waay more complicated than it actually is. Thank you so much :)
I feel that with my first instructor 7 years ago 😅 my new instructor teaches it more simply.
My first instructor was tbf excellent with the mechanics of driving and taught me more complex stuff than my current one. But I think it may have over complicated things for me
You are BRILLIANT. very well explained and easy to understand. you have made my life so much easier...i wish i could have you as my instructor
Thank you!
Yay I passed my driving test today...in NY. Thanks for uploading helpful content. GL everyone.
That's great news, congratulations on passing!
I was moving the steering while I was driving and that's how I ended up with a different angle and hit the pillar 🙄 this video makes it clear 👍
Hi Richard, you are the best trainer ever I have come across. My bad luck I can’t get you as my instructor but you are my idol. Thank you for helping us.
Thank you so much for being so kind.
I passed my license over 6 months ago, but I almost never had to parallel park after driving school. This really helped cheers for that.
@Richard
Just wanted to thank you for your incredibly helpful videos on Conquer Driving.
His outstanding. Keen to help and so genuine and his technic would help any levels such as new learners of course and nervous learners.

Thanks Brother for sharing your knowledge with us make the ROADS SAFE again and you're NATIONAL SERVICE TO THIS NATION.Now it's just needs one to one experience with your driving school and I will recommend this institution to any one.
Watching from Kashmir ( India side ) , ur videos helps me a lot , I am just a beginner & all the teachings from urs are helping me a lot to drive safely... thanks
Thank you and you're welcome
Conquer Driving My pleasure sir
I like the way he calls his students customers. That way it gives a better approach to coaching them
I found your video very helpful l was once terrible at front bay parking, after watching ur video I can do it perfectly now. And the same with parallel parking
I'm happy to hear this 😊
Thanks so much for this video, I’ve been driving just over a year since I passed my test and I’m still not greatly confident with reversing, I will definitely try this technique as it looks much easier!!
Good luck 🤞
My lessons are going well and it's all thanks to your tutorials. 👌🇿🇦
I hope you get your confidence back, I'm happy to hear the videos are helping 😊
You are one of the best instructor, I am only watching your videos ! 👍🏻
I failed my 1st attempt at passing but I am watching your videos and they seem to be really popular I will use this method if I get parallel park again as I failed on that area
Fantastic instructor.
Such a great explanation, Axcent as well. keep going teaching and releasing videos !!
Thank you, I will try my best.
Thank you so much for sharing these videos. You are really good at explaining👏. Your videos are helping me so much. I have got my test in 2 weeks. I have my lessons with my instructor and keep watching your videos for mental rehearsal. 😊🚗
Good luck with your test!
Thank you 🤞😊
The way you you talking is more clearly well explaining
A brilliant set of videos - I wish I had watched these weeks ago... thanks so much - very clear and concise...
Thank you and good luck on your test 🤞
This is absolutely the best parallel parking video.👍🏻👍🏻
Want to thank you for all your fantastic videos, I passed today and a big part of that was your videos. Massive thank you!
That's fantastic news, congratulations on passing!
My test is in November and these videos help SO MUCH!!!!! I can actually understand it and its explained simply
Been watching videos for days wish I had found your page on day 1 only person who’s made me grasp parrel parking x
That's great, I'm happy to help 😊
wow thank you man this video is very helpful, I wish I have a driving instructor like you, mine has no patience at all and always yell and make me confused even more.
Who else likes the video before watching knowing this video will be very informative..
Great explanation. You make my driving impeccable
Yes, good luck 🤞let me know how you get on.
Appreciate the replies by the way 👍
Thank you for thoroughly well explained tutorial video,I have understood that control and observations are the key features for this manoeuvre.
You're welcome ☺
Thankyou for all of your tips with driving keep the videos coming you are helping so many people with learning I'm so happy I have found them on here they have been critical to someone like me who have only had practice in my instructors car I'm sure others can say the same thing your awesome ☺️👍
Interesting comment on dry steering. I personally don’t recommend that but after your video, I am slowly changing my stance on it.
This guy cleared all my confusions and helped me to built confidence. Thanks mate...
I've got stuck with my learning on parallel parking, thanks for this
Thank you so much, i was able to connect the dots because of your videos , things make more sense now. angle on, get there, angle off is the mantra. My parallel parking and reverse bay parking couldn’t be any more better, all thanks to you😄
That's great to hear, thanks for watching!
The way you speak is very clearly
you explained the importance of side mirrors while reversing best.
Thank you.
