Thanks Richard. Last week bought a new car bigger than my old one. I’m approaching 70 and not as confident as when younger. My Dad taught me to drive at 17 (he was a driving instructor in WW11, Tanks, jeeps, cars, trucks). Found you on RUclips and love your methods. In Austrtalia we drive on right like in UK so your videos are perfect for me. Keep up the good work your followers love you.
Richard, I have watched this video several times and actually managed to reverse into a bay at an empty Tesco’s carpark this morning! I always drive into a space and avoid reversing like the plague. I’ve been driving for a long time and just wanted to thank you for the impossible! Wishing you a happy Easter.
Passed my test 5 years ago and I NEVER reverse park, but would love to because getting out looks safer (hate reversing in general)! Asked my husband this method, it looks like the one he uses but he does it 'automatically' and can’t explain it to me and both instructors taught me the 3 car method too but I could never get my head around it and in reality, someone WILL knick my space as I drive pass it, so I can't thank you enough!!!👍
I knew if was doing something wrong this whole time, and you've shown me the way. I love my new Mclaren Sena, bit ridiculous that you HAVE to get one of these to bay park but my parents always did say that driving is a big expense. Didn't even have to watch he rest of the vid after that so cheers, very time efficient 👍👍
Fun fact. I watched a different video from another youtuber/instructor. And he thought the 3 lane forward method like you showed. Honestly I tried it and yes it does work. But 100% of the time, the reference won't work on all cars due to different car dimensions. But it does work. So I went with my brother and tested it myself and it did work. Then my brother brought up that it might not work always. Then he pointed a single lone separate parking bay in front of Wren's Kitchen store and told me how can I park if it did not have 3 lanes as reference. I said I dunno. We switched up, and he showed me the same method you are showing in the video ! And I learned how to reverse that way. I didn't necessarily have to do the full lock to Angle On as I did not wanna enter the bays in front/there are cars in the bay in front. But still did the angle (shallow at times), and followed the same steps and making sure I am going into the bay. Just keep looking at the mirror while still observing. Honestly your maneuver videos are really good. Simply because you actually show what you see in the mirrors.
Hi Richard, this video has been my north star for reverse parking! I think the crucial thing for me was the 'get there' part, getting the wheels straight and reversing back to get closer to the bay has made the manouvre much more reliable for getting a nice, clean park between the lines.
My instructor has been teaching me the 123 method but yours seems so much better.i failed my test in may and lost my confidence but you are deffinatly changing that through your videos .so thank you
You always describe things in the most detail and make it clear. Other videos just show you the manoeuvre which doesn’t help me. I’m going to watch this video several times until this sinks in! I haven’t been taught to park using reverse 45° method. I passed in Dec and hate parking, mostly because I’m anxious and not confident at doing it. I don’t feel the 90° is practical, although I reverse into my driveway using 90° angle (but it’s not busy like a supermarket carpark!) I want to be able to teach myself to park but it’s likely I may have to get lessons with an instructor if I can’t do it. Being anxious about parking ruins the whole driving experience for me as I’m anxious the whole journey thinking about how I’m going to park! This is why I need to crack it. People tell me it’ll come with time but I’m impatient as I know as soon as I crack this I’ll feel better about driving.
The more you do it the better you will get. It may be wise to reason with the source of the anxiety, I would guess it's more to do with people watching you and waiting for you than the ability to get into the space? People still have to wait for me to park and I will rarely do it in one, I like to go out straight and use the mirrors to make sure I'm central before going back again to finish.
This is my story, and the only part am dreading in my forthcoming test. God help me🙏🙏🙏. Will continue to watch these videos even after passing to develop more
@Conquer Driving thanks alot Richard, You are a rare gem tbh 🤗🤗, you give me so much hope and motivation about this driving. Hopefully, I pass one day 🙏🙏🙏 cuz have never been this worried about achieving things🤕
Thank you so much for your videos which have helped me clarify things and keep learning in between lessons. I managed to pass today with three minor faults and I will continue to watch your videos.
Have searched which driving license is the most powerful in the world and that is no doubt at all and im not suprised at all when i saw that its the UK !!! Its my ever first driving license to get, and what a pleasure to pass it !! Your vlogs are very clear and so helpful, thank you !!
It's funny how these things become completely instinctual over time, that you don't even think about it, you just do it automatically, regardless of the car. Doesn't matter if you're driving a small hatchback or a truck, your body, your eyes just know what to do. :)) To all new drivers, you're gonna get there before you know it. Don't stress, don't worry.
Yes I agree You explain driving practices and pin point mistakes and find a solution for them on the spot. Your videos are extremely helpful. It boosted my confidence and I can see now where I make mistakes. Thank you Regards
I’m not sure what it was with the way how my driving instructor has been explaining the reverse bay park but I couldn’t grasp the concept of it, BUT after watching your video I have!! Thankyou so much
Tried parking in a driving lesson and it was a mess. Randomly clicked on your video before my next lesson and slightly remember things that you taught in this video. Ended up my instructor said everything was spot on. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video! I have been avoiding bay parking for 8 years because I believed I could never do it but your video explains the steps really well :D I would be grateful if you could do a video on how to deal with emergency vehicles, thanks!
I passed my test a year ago, but only learnt one way which to be honest had a 50% success rate. And in my car, I have never been that great at reverse parking. I never had anyone explain what I was looking for in my mirrors and I never saw this on a video before. This method has been amazing as you go into this detail! Best video on this on RUclips. Thanks! Has helped me massively!
Richard, you've made this so easy for me, and very soon I have my drive test scheduled here in Ontario. I am more confident than I was ever before. My instructor could not do a better job even with 10 actual in car lessons than you did here.
Thanks for all your helpful videos. Since getting a manual car, I've nearly given up on bay parking (unless I can get one of the end bays closest to the exit) and strictly parallel park and I don't care if I have to walk a km! However, since watching this video and your forward bay parking video, I'm willing to give bay parking a chance again. I find parking in my 2011 Toyota Aygo much harder than when I had a sedan sized (automatic) 1986 Buick Century.
Yes totally agree, little cars like the Aygo are more challenging to park than larger cars. It's counter intuitive but that's what I find. To be fair I think it's because it's easier to control more expensive cars as they generally have better pedal sensitivities and more parking aids like reverse sensors, cameras and auto dipping mirrors. Size plays a small factor in how difficult a car is to park, most cars only vary by 20cm in width anyway.
this is really similar to the method I've been learning with my driving lessons however instead of looking for the gab I was taught to look for the triangle
Thanks Richard for all the video's you made and Will still be making . It really help me a lot. In Belgium we can drive indepedently after 20 hours of lesson in a known driving school. 20 hours still not enough to learn everything. Because it's very expensive to pay for extra hours, i Just watch tutorial on RUclips and that's when i came accross your channel. Your explanantion, point of view, tips, positivity, encouragement help me improved a lot 🙂. Please continue to inspire all the new drivers. Cheers to you all!
Amazing! Thank you so much for this, I had my first reverse bay parking lesson today and while it wasn't a nightmare, I can see I'm going to need to practise it a lot. Very grateful for this video and all your others... your calm, upbeat, can-do attitude and for sharing your knowledge so freely. You're the best learn to drive channel on RUclips! :)
I just had my first driving lesson earlier today. The way you explain things are perfect! You are my go to driving channel now. Keep up the good work dude. ✨✨
I just have to message to say thank you very much for your videos. I have actually passed my automatic license roughly 12 years ago and now I'm about to sit my manual test on Wednesday. My driving instructor is against using the wing mirror and tries to make me do the manuver in one go and with the first method of the three spaces... this isn't how I was taught back when I first learnt I thought it was ok to break it down.. Now after seeing this I am reverting to the same technique as you prefer it is much better and on the test I will be using my wing mirror. X
Thank you a million, your videos helps to give me the confidence I so needed for my driving test and I am pleased to say I watched your videos even the night before the test. I am grateful I pass today 💓 Thank you again!!
I passed my test recently in Taiwan (where I live) and the lessons are nothing like in the UK. They also used the sticker method you mentioned, which I agree hasn't helped me at all when it comes to parking the car. So now I am petrified of parking as the car I have been given to use is ginormous, and most the parking spaces in Taiwan are tiny or the car park is full, and you have to squeeze into the one space left no one wanted. I will be practicing this way of parking in a car park this weekend. Thanks.
I love your videos. I've just started driving again after a long period out. I had a few refresher lessons but your videos have been much better for getting grips with manoeuvres such as this. Please do a video about multi-storey car parks! :D
He's really good, thank you, I passed by driving test I think as teenager but haven't driven for long time, did have a driving lesson recently but didn't go back after but finding these videos super super helpful,
@@ConquerDriving I tried to give it a go and he doesn't agree with dry steering whatsoever - I did nail the parallel park though from your other vid and he couldn't understand how I was doing it :')
@@natashatribe4676 great news, shame he won't accept dry steering, it's not a problem on the test and will make your life a lot easier. I've been doing it for 150,000 miles in my current leaner car with no problems.
Hi Richard, as an Adi I've found many student struggle with the 3 line method...as for "Dry steering" I advise my student's this is a great reminder to observe around as you've paused. Brilliant video as always mate keep up the great work

The best driving lessons available on RUclips, no question. I have a small question, why isn't there a universal rule for driving a car anywhere you want? Why we need practise all those things separately? I might be dumb, but looking at good drivers, they just know, whatever the situation is, to get out of it and drive safely, what is that? What do they have? How do they do it?
Thank you. I'm not sure what you mean about a universal rule. Road infrastructure has been built gradually over the course of more than a century, limited space and money means they have to improvise with road layouts. Rules are there to help keep you safe and help traffic flow but don't always work well, if you are careful and thoughtful you will probably be OK. If you try to be rigid you will have problems.
@@ConquerDriving No, no not those rules, I meant the art of driving a car, do we have train for each and every scenario like parallel parking, forward parking, overtaking etc. Why can't there be a single principle that we can use to suit all the scenarios? I mean it is like putting carpets everywhere rather than putting a shoe on your feet, I hope you get my idea
Parking on left side 1. stop when you feel like you are sitting outside the middle of the spot you want 2. Turn your side mirrors down *specifically the left one* 3. Steer all the way away from the space you want (all the way to the right) 4. Get the second line to have a small space between you and the car 5. Get close to the bay (get the line to be just at the bottom of the mirror) 6. Get angle off (steer all the way to the left) 7. Come back slowly until car is parallel to the line 8. Straighten the wheel and come back slowly until you are in the parking spot fully:) Parking on right Do the same except use your right mirror this time Step 3 changes to steering all the way left Step 6 changes to steer all the way to the right
Thank you for this! I've been learning with my aunt for most of the year and then went to a driving instructor to make sure I'd covered everything. He initially taught me with the sticker method which is all good and well but like you say I'm not going to have that on the day, Today, I tried the angle on, get there method when parking up and returning the car. I didn't have full space to angle out but I managed to successfully reverse park between 2 bay parked cars! Previously I was terrified of this, but I was able to do it after watching this video! Amazing thank you! I have my test on Wednesday! So going to be catching up with the videos that will help me. I will update!
Ive been waiting for this video! I enjoy your video struture and how well you present the information. Ive only been driving for 8 months and I absolutely hate bay parking, especially in small tight car parks but hopefully I can take this advice on! Great Video!
Thank you and good luck, remember to lower your mirrors and return them when you're finished. I have an old car where the mirrors don't lower so I have to crane my neck up very high, this is ok when you're experienced as you can do it quickly. When you're a novice you need to take your time and stretching your neck whilst trying to control the car can get exhausting very quickly.
Haha, that 'third line' method is how I learned, which I found very hard to translate to my parents' car, and is impossible to use for our personal parking space because -there is no line-. This really helps!
Thank you so much for this very clear explanation. Im from Canada and my instructor only every ever taught me the 123 method which is not good in a busy parking lot, your reverse bay park video has taught me a lot about the mirrors. Thanks for giving me confidence, I will try this soon and provide an update. Your amazing. Stay blessed.
Can you do a video with “ the different Show Me” questions that can be asked in the current UK driving test please? There ARE existing “Show me” , and “Tell me” videos on RUclips , which to a degree have been helpful, but for many questions the video doesn’t pause for long enough or give a clear enough view of , for example, the controls I would need to press inside the car to switch on the rear demister. (There are other examples which I can’t currently remember!) I have tried pausing the video myself but it just doesn’t show the symbols/controls clearly enough for me to be confident that I could answer correctly in the test. Thank you. You have gained a new subscriber by the way! :)
Finally what I needed! I need to reverse park in a tight parking space next to my house, walls on both sides. Well no bay lines there, really. Thank you.
Hi, once again thank you for these extremely helpful videos - I’m watching a lot of these daily in the hope that they will sink into my subconscious before my next lesson! :) I have another question...one thing I feel quite nervous about when doing a reversing manoeuvre is that say for example, a dog or a very young child was directly behind the car , they would probably not be visible in the back window or the mirrors due to their height. An older child, adult or cyclist would obviously know to get out of the way and that this would be a dangerous place to stand so they wouldn’t remain there, but a young child or dog might not move in time. Am I overthinking this? Lol
Thank you for your praise. I would not say you're overthinking this, these thoughts have entered my mind. There is an element of risk in everyday life and this is one of the risks. However it is an unlikely one as if you're aware of your surroundings you would likely see the kid or dog approaching and go out of view behind your car. Also, most animals and children won't let a car run over them, they will move out of the way, that's why it's important to go slowly to give them time to move if you have missed them. But you are right, you can't completely negate risk only reduce it as much as possible. I personally decide not to worry about things that are out of my control.
I put blindspot mirrors on both mine and my partners car and we both find them so helpful for parking. I couldn’t live without them now, I would find it really annoying adjusting my full mirrors every time I wanted to park.
I am from Namibia and Got my drivers licence yesterday... Been watching your videos and I am very much grateful. They helped me a lot. I will definitely continue watching them to learn more.
amazing. thank you so much for this explanation. its great that this concept is explained in this detail as newer drivers can better understand mirror information
I never learned parking the traditional way of third line, but always intuitively used the angled second approach you showed. Somehow I found with not adjusted mirrors, easier to park between parked cars than empty spot :P, but your method still helped me to refine it further with reference points.
Thank you so much for this, I've never been able to do this and was taught with the stickers, just beginning to drive a year after passing my test. Managed to do this twice after watching and going to keep practicing

Asked my husband this method, it looks like the one he uses but he does it 'automatically' and can’t explain it to me and both instructors taught me the 3 car method too but I could never get my head around it and in reality, someone WILL knick my space as I drive pass it, so I can't thank you enough!!!👍
SAME. 3yrs been driving and never had to or chose to do one. Have you accomplished it yet?
I knew if was doing something wrong this whole time, and you've shown me the way. I love my new Mclaren Sena, bit ridiculous that you HAVE to get one of these to bay park but my parents always did say that driving is a big expense. Didn't even have to watch he rest of the vid after that so cheers, very time efficient 👍👍
I'm happy to hear I've help you with your car choice and your parking.
My instructor has been teaching me the 123 method but yours seems so much better.i failed my test in may and lost my confidence but you are deffinatly changing that through your videos .so thank you
I LOVE the way you talk! You emphasize every single word 😄😊
I have noticed that since I've been filming myself. I also say intill instead of until and in this occasion instead of on this occasion.
This is the best tutorial on bay parking because it clearly explains how to use the mirrors.
I don’t feel the 90° is practical, although I reverse into my driveway using 90° angle (but it’s not busy like a supermarket carpark!)
I want to be able to teach myself to park but it’s likely I may have to get lessons with an instructor if I can’t do it.
I passed my test today and watched your video before my test thank you so much because of you I passed thank you
So happy I helped!
Why am I watching this even though I am a somewhat experienced driver? I am a driving geek and his explanations are top class! Good work!
Yes
I agree
You explain driving practices and pin point mistakes and find a solution for them on the spot. Your videos are extremely helpful. It boosted my confidence and I can see now where I make mistakes.
Thank you
Regards
Omg I struggle with correcting bay parks with the 90 degree method and the correction you did at 11:11 literally made it all click! Thank you!!!
I’m not sure what it was with the way how my driving instructor has been explaining the reverse bay park but I couldn’t grasp the concept of it, BUT after watching your video I have!! Thankyou so much
You're very welcome ☺
Your videos are brilliant and so helpful. They helped ms pass my driving test yesterday, with zero minors.
You are by far the best driving instructor! I love your explanations! Every one of them is very useful!
Thank you, good idea!
I'm so happy to hear that 😊
Richard, you've made this so easy for me, and very soon I have my drive test scheduled here in Ontario. I am more confident than I was ever before. My instructor could not do a better job even with 10 actual in car lessons than you did here.
Good luck with your upcoming test!
@@ConquerDriving thank you!
I used this method today and It worked perfectly. You're an amazing instructor. Congratulations!
Got my test tomorrow and just checking over the manoeuvres now! Great video thanks!
this is really similar to the method I've been learning with my driving lessons however instead of looking for the gab I was taught to look for the triangle
As long as it works 😉
What triangle?
I have been driving for 46 years but I am learning so much from your video. Your explanations are wonderful.
Great to hear! Thank you for watching!
Perfect explanation and your British accent so classy
Thank you.
Clear demonstration of the concepts with visuals.....appreciations from India
I just had my first driving lesson earlier today. The way you explain things are perfect! You are my go to driving channel now. Keep up the good work dude. ✨✨
Thank you!
Janitra Erlangga he is brilliant
@@devonmoon5016 awww thank youuu ✨, and you too, good luck for the lessons. He is amazing
Good luck with your test! In my opinion, using the mirrors is how you guide a vehicle backwards. Otherwise it is guess work.
Thank you a million, your videos helps to give me the confidence I so needed for my driving test and I am pleased to say I watched your videos even the night before the test.
I am grateful I pass today 💓
Thank you again!!
Congratulations on passing!
@@ConquerDriving God bless your channel
Hello from South Africa 🇿🇦, and thank you so much for your videos... I passed my driving test through watching you. God bless you 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
That's great to hear! Thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!
@@ConquerDriving thanks much
😂😂the see through door part was funny
Thank you. I may do in the future.
He's really good, thank you, I passed by driving test I think as teenager but haven't driven for long time, did have a driving lesson recently but didn't go back after but finding these videos super super helpful,
My instructor taught me the first way and I still get it wrong, hopefully I'll be able to try the second method as it makes so much more sense.
I hope so, I really don't agree with the first way as you can't see where you are and will only work in one specific car.
Thank you. You're the only one who explained it clearly. My driving test is next month
Goods luck next month.
Well done, thank you very much, your approach is really interesting 👍🏻
You're welcome.
Hi Richard, as an Adi I've found many student struggle with the 3 line method...as for "Dry steering" I advise my student's this is a great reminder to observe around as you've paused. Brilliant video as always mate keep up the great work
The trouble with the 3 line method is that it's not necessarily teaching them how to guide the car backwards using the mirrors.
@@ConquerDriving I generally say it's a method but not the best method.
Thank you so much for this my instructor taught me only 1st method but i parked left well but right side is only problem i struggled 😰😵 .i don't know what the problem with right. But i will trying your method (the half )one on my own car .😊😀
Good luck, the same principle applies for both left and right. Don't give up, keep trying.
@@ConquerDriving Aw thank u so much. 😀
Parking on left side
1. stop when you feel like you are sitting outside the middle of the spot you want
2. Turn your side mirrors down *specifically the left one*
3. Steer all the way away from the space you want (all the way to the right)
4. Get the second line to have a small space between you and the car
5. Get close to the bay (get the line to be just at the bottom of the mirror)
6. Get angle off (steer all the way to the left)
7. Come back slowly until car is parallel to the line
8. Straighten the wheel and come back slowly until you are in the parking spot fully:)
Parking on right
Do the same except use your right mirror this time
Step 3 changes to steering all the way left
Step 6 changes to steer all the way to the right
Sounds about right. Do you think I should make a shorter more concise video?
@@ConquerDriving IMO this video is just right. It's a bit long but I'm pretty sure some people need the long explanation.
Thank you for this! I've been learning with my aunt for most of the year and then went to a driving instructor to make sure I'd covered everything.
He initially taught me with the sticker method which is all good and well but like you say I'm not going to have that on the day,
Today, I tried the angle on, get there method when parking up and returning the car.
Did this yesterday (4th lesson) I love these videos, thanks so much!
You're welcome.
⚘❤
Thank you so much for this very clear explanation. Im from Canada and my instructor only every ever taught me the 123 method which is not good in a busy parking lot, your reverse bay park video has taught me a lot about the mirrors. Thanks for giving me confidence, I will try this soon and provide an update. Your amazing. Stay blessed.
Thank you, I'm happy to hear I'm helping you.
Update?
I was waiting for a video like this which explains this
I learnt this method on my last lesson and is so much better than the 90° method this video is perfect thankyou ☺️👍
You're welcome, I do plan yo make a good show me tell me video in the future with symbols so you will know what's what on every car.
Conquer Driving Thank you! That’s fab :) :) 👌
Finally what I needed! I need to reverse park in a tight parking space next to my house, walls on both sides. Well no bay lines there, really. Thank you.
Best instructor thanks alot
Thank you and you're welcome
Took a couple of tries to get this but now it works every time. Seriously, thank you!
Yay can't wait to watch this. You're amazing and deserve to be known more. Thanks so much for uploading this great video :)
Thank you, good words of encouragement for when I'm in a car park being stared at by everyone for filming and talking to a camera :)
@@ConquerDriving I know exactly what you mean! 😄

You are the BEST teacher/instructor have ever seen! Please, keep it up.
I just realised I've been to this car park lol
Can I just say your better then my driving instructor at parking this has helped me a lot & aswell with confidence thank u✌️
One of the greatest driving instructors of all time 👏🙌♥️
Is that the back door or front door... used as a reference?
Front door.
I put blindspot mirrors on both mine and my partners car and we both find them so helpful for parking. I couldn’t live without them now, I would find it really annoying adjusting my full mirrors every time I wanted to park.
My father do it so easily, i wish i can learn that from him but sadly he pass away on 55 age
I'm sorry to hear that.
I am from Namibia and Got my drivers licence yesterday... Been watching your videos and I am very much grateful. They helped me a lot. I will definitely continue watching them to learn more.
Congratulations on passing your driving test yesterday! Thank you for watching.
Do forward n parallel next
I have a parallel already. Yes, I need to do a forwards one, got so many to do.
@Sharon Reilly I'll be honest, personally I find forwards harder as I can't see the lines for most of the manouvre.
amazing. thank you so much for this explanation. its great that this concept is explained in this detail as newer drivers can better understand mirror information
0:22 Dora the explorer
I never learned parking the traditional way of third line, but always intuitively used the angled second approach you showed. Somehow I found with not adjusted mirrors, easier to park between parked cars than empty spot :P, but your method still helped me to refine it further with reference points.
Booked the test in 3 weeks literally don’t even know how to do this
Good luck 🤞
Thank you so much for this, I've never been able to do this and was taught with the stickers, just beginning to drive a year after passing my test. Managed to do this twice after watching and going to keep practicing
