- Maxx Force at Six Flags Great America is a great coaster, but it does have a pretty big downside. So in this video I go over everything you need to know about Maxx Force. Going in depth on its ride experience and surprisingly interesting history.

People getting injured on air launch coasters are because they dont listen and sit back with their head back. The announcement is for your own safety
Very true, people need to pay attention to the announcements.
It shouldn't need an announcement. If it needs an announcement like that then the design is flawed.
@nv_spartan1771 why yes cos sitting forward on the fastest accelerating coasters in the world is safe. All rides have safety announcements for the 10% who are stupid. And they're the ones who get injured

Idk how people don’t listen to the announcement I’m scared to death to do anything other than sit back unless it’s like backlot stunt coaster or something like that
I’ve been on this ride. The first time I went on, my body was very unprepared for that high speed. Time felt very weird during that launch. You’re right when you say it’s hard to describe.

Steel coasters are _full of_ gimmicks, complexity, technology and/or record statistics that often interfere with consistent operation. X2, Top Thrill Dragster, Kingda Ka, Lightning Rod, Maxx Force, West Coast Racers, Full Throttle, Velocicoaster, RMC Raptors (all 5 of them) & Do-Dondonpa just to name a few that are too-often not operating. I'm a wood coaster hobbyist & this is one of the things I love about woodies, they don't go down easily, nor do they depend on the latest thing in coaster design to make them fun. Maxx Force _IS_ a kick-ass ride, but an operational gamble if you go expecting to ride it. Great video!
When I visited last summer in early June, we intended on riding it at the start of the day, but it wasn't cleared to open in time. But a couple hours later when it did open, they only had one train ops going. Someone working in the station said the second train was out due to maintinence so the line wasn't moving very fast, and this was indeed the longest line of the whole day as I waited 45 mintues. As short as it is, I'm not sure it's worth that long of a wait, but it's still a great ride. That is definitely my favorite launch that I've experienced so far.
Interesting, I wonder if they are still doing maintenance on the trains because they where only running one on my visit in late April this year.
@Spinal hiccup they were only running one train 3 days ago as well.
My home park is great america and I have never had a problem with it. It has only had 5-10 minute break downs a few times a visit or when it rains. I think every element is so good with either hangtime, g forces, or just speed

@@spinalhiccup yeah you probably are just unlucky, ive been going for 3 years now quite often and it has only broken down a few times for a max of 15 mins when ive been there
I rode this it's opening year in 2019. It appeared to not be open when I first entered the park so I skipped it and went on Viper. While on Viper I noticed it running so I immediately got in line. The wait was about an hour and included waiting out a few extra trains for front row. I lapped the park riding pretty much all the coasters once and when I returned to the front of the park to ride the Whizzer, the anticipated wait time was probably longer than Maxx Force. I thought Maxx Force was a great ride well worth an hour wait, but I can't wait a second hour for that short of a ride, if that makes any sense.
There is one more major problem that great america just made for no reason. The ride only runs one train. Sure that might lead to less down time. But there's still a lot of downtime. And there's a lot les riders per hour.
YES they ran it with 2 in 2019 and 2021 but they stopped doing it since 2022 and it causes the worst line in the park

I used to work at SFGAm and the reason it always runs one train is because whenever Maxx runs two trains it turns into Anthony Davis and gets into downtimes left and right.
Well I hope they can figure out how to keep it more reliable with both trains as it can’t run one forever
The launch is incredible, however it's too short and the brakes at the end really kill the ride. It's too short and should at least allow the train to fully descend from the hill before hitting the breaks. The ending is such a buzzkill for me that it seriously affects my opinion of the experience.
My biggest problem with it is that they only run it with one train because the launch system would apparently overheat if they ran with two. If that’s true, then the ride needs to be scraped and shouldn’t have been built to begin with. Having such a powerful launch means little when you’re forced to operate it at an awful capacity rate for a park this size.
Pro tip: Wednesday of the final week of weekday operation. No lines. Suburban schools are in session.
Maxx force has gotta be one of my favorite rides
Great america being my home park, I have been going here for 4 years, and in the past year I have gone more than 30 times and only see it break down 3 or 4 times. I see rides like Flash or even joker go down more. I dont know why everyone thinks this is dragster v2. It simply is not.
dont try to hold your breath, if you decide to exhale again before inhaling itll launch and take your breath away, just breath normally.

During my 2021 trip, I never saw Maxx Force down at all.
Down three times a day, if it opens
I've never seen maxx Force closed but the capacity is really bad
I also really like the sound of the launch
I have only experienced two tomes where max force was down, I have ridden max force about a million times, since its my home park and I marathon it, the two reasons where that one, is around 2022, it was raining, and it was down, after 10 minutes of it stopping, the ride was back up so fast, the latest, six flags opening day, I went and max force is down, I was so mad, from your sayings and my saying, I am saying that I think maxx forces operations are turning into poo, which is sad, really, if this dose continue, something like hypersonic xlc will happen where from bad wheels( not this case) and bad operations, they can take this thing down. ( all assumptions) I also cannot relate more, I can talk hours on end about the launch, It really feels like you leave your stomach in the loose article bins, Love it
The operations are getting bad, although I don't think Six Flags will close this coaster this soon after opening.

You forgot about powder keg
Powder keg is a weird one. It was originally a strange water coaster manufactured by premier rides. It had a ton of issues issues and high coasts, so in 2003 it was closed. S&S came in and added in some new track and an air launch. Interestingly it also uses the old premiere track, which is why you hit a chain lift halfway through. Even though it has an interesting history, I decided to not include powder keg in the video because it wasn’t a super important moment in the history of air launch coasters. There are also some air launch coasters in China that I excluded for the same reason.

15 mill… shoulda gone toward rmc eagle or a giga or multilaunch with higher capacity and reliability. My gripe wirh great anerica is that they spend money more sparingly than the other major Six Flags parks and then I’m not really sure that they’re spending money on the right stuff… It seems like everything before superman ultimate flight was a home run for park guests and enthusiast to like. Superman works for the general public but x flight Goliath and max force all have their issues.
Downside: ride length, no airtime.
Pro: the launch.
Yeah, it wasn't worth the investment. IMO it's not that great, just a new version of Hypersonic XLC, the launch alone doesn't justify the massive waste of money that coaster is. It's fun, but a coaster needs more than a launch. That's the same reason why I don't rank Top Thrill Dragster or KingDa Ka or Superman (SFMM) very highly, theyre all basically one trick ponies....
Max force, kingda ka and Superman escape from krypton are all terrible with being down more than they're open. All 3 being launch coasters but with completely different launch methods . Kinda interesting that launch coasters seem to be the most finicky
I haven't had the greatest luck with Maxx Force, but I don't remember Kingda Ka or Superman being down much. I think I was just lucky though.
@@spinalhiccup magic mountain is my home park and Superman is down a lot. Glad you got lucky. Kingda ka is also down alot. The day I went it was up and down all day. Got lucky and got a few rides just before leaving the park
@@spinalhiccup Kingda Ka is like always broken. You have to be lucky to ever get to ride it. As of this post it's probably going to be down for like a month AGAIN.

i dont think it holds the record for the fastest inversion anymore. beyond the cloud in china seems to have a faster inversion.

the launch is really the only thing good about this ride imo. for 15 million dollars the ride could absolutely been longer like its called max force but barely has any force minus the launch there is so much more space available around the ride they could've thrown in like an overbanked turn or some air time pops but it really just does nothing besides an exciting launch. just a lot of wasted potential i feel like and im not upset if the lines are long either cause that just means shorter lines for the actual good rides at great America lolol
