There isn’t another singer songwriter that reinvents himself like John Mellencamp. He is always relevant and current. I have been a huge fan for 40 years.

He never “reinvented” himself. He was always the same, he just took his name back from a record company affectation

When all is said and done, and history is written, John Mellencamp will be known as the finest American singer-songwriter. He's behind Bob Dylan and others in the popular consciousness now, but that will change as future generations discover the profundity of this man's work. I hope they have a better understanding.

One of my cousins met John Mellencamp back in the mid to late 90's in a Bloomington bar. He liked my cousin's attitude. He played guitar with John Mellencamp in his studio. Cool right?

Saturday night. Out on a country road weaved into the river bottoms of rural Missouri. After working at McDonalds all night. My friend Dave and I get a bottle of tequila, a cup of McD's lemon wedges, and a handful of McD's salt packets. We put on the new cassette he bought at the not-a-super-center Walmart entitled Scarecrow. In his mom's brown cutlass cierra we sang Minutes To Memories and Small Town all night, shooting the booze and dreaming of another world. I, thank goodness, got sober 10 years ago. Dave is still a drunk. I haven't listened to Scarecrow or talked to Dave in 30 years.

Lucky you, and I mean that. John's take on the music business and the internet is one of the best I've ever heard from an artist. He doesn't seem the least bit bitter about it; he's just talking in a matter-of-fact way about what happened and how it's hurt intellectual property rights. He's smarter than I might have guessed. I'm going to see him in a few weeks at the Greek and I can't wait.

If you asked his ex wives and Meg Ryan they might have a different opinion about him but he is a straight shooter and has stayed clear of the music industry as much as any rock musician can and has done much for farmers but he seems to have his demons

John's a tortured soul but then again not really. He's fought the fight we all face. We are all tortured in different ways. He's just who he is. Prick, nice guy, musician, artist, dad, cheater, whatever. That's just life. That's you and me and him. Beatles or stones? What?....the who? Yep.......were all different.

John you haven't acted your age yet! I'm from Indiana, and I grew up listening to his music. But the real fact is John hasn't grown up yet, he still acts immature in many ways. But thats John and some ways it helped him and in others it has bitten him in the butt.
