- Vladimir Putin has cracked down on dissent, but it hasn’t stopped critics from speaking out. Many of them now live in Vilnius, Lithuania, a place some might view as the capital of free Russia.
"60 Minutes" is the most successful television broadcast in history. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 and is still a hit, over 50 seasons later, regularly making Nielsen's Top 10.

@@lukemurray4950 You are correct that in today's Russia is has lost all meaning, since it is a buzz word used for anyone that Putin doesn't like. It is however defined very well by scholars. I suggest you read Umberto Eco's "14 common features of fascism" and you will see that Kremlin regime checks every single box on the list. Russia became fascist, there can be no doubt about it.

@@lukemurray4950 Of course you can, many scholars have done it. Read Umbero Eco's 14 common features of fascism and you will see that today's Russia checks every single box. Just because it became a buzz word with no meaning in Russia doesn't mean it can't be defined.

Good Report! Thank You! Yes, We want everyone to be FREE!
I remember a short film I made getting accepted into a small film festival in Moscow. The communication with the festival organisers was fantastic, however part of the requirements to get the film screened at a cinema was they had to send each individual film to the Kremlin to be approved by the Arts Ministry in the event there was any western or anti Russia/Putin messaging in them. My film was about a young man looking after his father who has Alzheimer's in rural Ireland. People who think Putin has it all worked out, or buy into Tucker Carlson reporting on how amazing shopping trolleys are in Moscow have no clue the privileges they have, because if they lived in Russia today they would most certainly not have any type of voice. The film festival shut down as far as I am aware after the war in Ukraine began, as it was an international event that welcomed people from afar, but clearly that was too much of a threat for the Kremlin in my own opinion. Even something as simple as a film festival is enough to keep a tyrant like Putin paranoid.

NATO's role in global affairs.
Examples of ways NATO interacts with the public include:
Public diplomacy campaigns to raise awareness about NATO's mission, values, and contributions to security and stability.
Media engagement through press releases, interviews, and briefings to provide information and updates on NATO activities and initiatives.
Educational initiatives and resources aimed at informing students, educators, and the general public about security issues and NATO's role in addressing them.
Social media engagement to engage with a broader audience, share news and updates, and respond to questions and comments from followers.
Public events, seminars, and forums to facilitate dialogue and exchange of views between policymakers, experts, and members of the public on security-related topics.
While NATO's engagement with the public serves to enhance transparency, dialogue, and public understanding of security issues, it does not involve "games" in the sense of recreational or entertainment activities. Instead, NATO's interactions with the public are focused on fostering informed dialogue, promoting democratic values, and building support for collective defense and security efforts among member states and partner countries.
Critics may argue that NATO's activities and policies can have negative implications for peace and the public in several ways:
Heightened Tensions and Conflict: NATO's expansion eastward and military activities near Russia's borders have contributed to increased tensions between NATO member states and Russia. This escalation of geopolitical tensions can create instability and increase the risk of conflict, undermining prospects for peace in the region.
Military Interventions and Civilian Casualties: NATO's involvement in military interventions, such as those in Afghanistan and Libya, has resulted in civilian casualties and widespread destruction. Critics argue that these interventions have not always achieved their intended objectives and have instead exacerbated violence and instability, leading to human suffering and loss of life.
Arms Races and Militarization: NATO's emphasis on military capabilities and defense spending can contribute to arms races and the proliferation of weapons, leading to increased militarization and insecurity. This focus on military solutions may divert resources away from social welfare programs and public services, exacerbating inequality and poverty and undermining efforts to address root causes of conflict.
Lack of Democratic Accountability: NATO's decision-making processes are often criticized for lacking transparency and democratic accountability. Key decisions regarding military interventions and defense policies are often made by a few powerful member states without adequate consultation or oversight, limiting public participation and scrutiny.
Erosion of Diplomacy and Dialogue: NATO's reliance on military deterrence and defense postures may undermine efforts to resolve conflicts through diplomacy, dialogue, and negotiation. By prioritizing military solutions over peaceful alternatives, NATO's policies can perpetuate cycles of violence and hinder progress toward peaceful resolution of disputes.
Nuclear Deterrence and Risks of Nuclear Conflict: NATO's reliance on nuclear deterrence as a cornerstone of its defense strategy raises concerns about the risks of nuclear proliferation and the potential for nuclear conflict. The presence of nuclear weapons in NATO member states and the alliance's nuclear sharing arrangements contribute to global insecurity and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Imbalance in Security Guarantees: NATO's security guarantees may disproportionately benefit wealthier and more powerful member states, leaving smaller or less influential members vulnerable to security threats. This imbalance in security guarantees can perpetuate inequalities and divisions within the alliance, undermining solidarity and cohesion.
Overall, critics argue that NATO's policies and actions can have negative consequences for peace and the public by exacerbating tensions, perpetuating violence, and prioritizing military solutions over peaceful alternatives. Addressing these concerns requires increased transparency, accountability, and dialogue within the alliance, as well as a renewed commitment to diplomacy, conflict resolution, and the promotion of human security.
