Just received my modded SKX007 w/ upgraded movement & crystal, sub bezel w ceramic Batman insert & PADI deep blue dial w/ merc hands. Your choice of component parts was excellent! Workmanship absolutely flawless!! Outstanding job: On budget and ahead of schedule. Strongest possible endorsement. Thanks!
Thank you for the review Mark! It was a pleasure making that piece for you. Hope you enjoy!
Thank you for this tutorial! The other day I dropped my beloved little Seiko 5 SNK807 and the second hand popped off. My wife said, "Maybe you can fix it." I thought there was no way, but after watching your video I ordered the tools to give it a try and it worked! Good as new! (And, as usual, my wife was right.)
Is there some sort of notch or protruding metal that inserts into the spot where the seconds hands should go? I haven't been able to insert the seconds hand yet but I don't have that tool yet so maybe that's the key. Otherwise I'm fearful I make have broken the seconds hand. Thanks!
In my opinion Lume Shot....im proud the way you do it the way you treat thw watch very carefully and intelligently...im 57yo PWD filipino ...now im retired from work...i wish i could learn also from you....
Great work....
Im your new subscriber...
Thank you,,,
Guys dont feel bad..this is just an example ....DYI ...be positive though,,,,
Great work Eric!! For anyone watching the video, I ran into Eric's channel and was amazed by his mods. I reached out to him for the same mod as in the video. I asked for the BB58 dial and hands instead of the original white dial and hands. I received the finished product via mail yesterday and it is absolutely beautiful! The watch has the appearance of the BB but for a fraction of the cost. Would definitely recommend Eric for anyone wants a modded watch. Good shit Eric!
Haha thanks man! Was a pleasure making it for you!
Commissioned LumeShot for an NH36 movement upgrade and he did an amazing job. Always enjoy watching the videos, keep up the great work!
Thanks for the support Cade !
This is the most thorough demonstration I've seen on youtube. Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words!
Love this vid! There’s not a ton of very detailed mod videos out there. Told ya everything to be done simply and clearly. Thanks man!
Thank you so much for taking the time to put together a very detailed video on how to perform this detailed mod. Before watching this video I went to a local watch dealer and inquired if he would a mod on my Seiko SKX009 and to my surprise he said yes but that he would not guarantee that the watch would work after he completed the mod. So needless to say I didn’t have him perform this work. But thanks to your video I have completed the work myself without any issues. Thanks again for a great mod video. It was excellent !!!
Thank you! Glad it helped!
Nice work. One thing though, I'd polish the case BEFORE reinserting the movement.
Good point, realized what could have gone wrong there.
I was wracking my brain trying to figure out how to cover the crystal. Doh!
I have a brand new seiko 5 807, I like its military look cause I already have a dress watch, however I have to admit this mod makes it look a lot better, keep going w/ the good work
Fancy meeting you here! I just ordered a couple of Lucius Atelier dials and a new SNK809. I typed in "how to remove Seiko dial" and up pops Lume Shot. This must be the only one of your videos that I haven't seen.
Always enjoyable watching an expert at work. Very smooth.
I have to say the job came out even better than I expected. Fair price and great turn around.
Thanks your services are top notch!!! Will be giving you more work.
Thank you for the review Anthony! Looking forward to making more custom jobs for you!
Just completed my first Seiko mod - Divers 200 dial - thanks entirely to your video. Watch never looked better and feeling pretty cool myself.
You make it all look easy! But I think the hardest is to size and buy the most suitable parts.
man .... you got tons of patience and skills ... i enjoyed every bit of the video
this tutorial is emersive AF. 10/10 would watch again
Great video. So many useful tips. Thanks. 👍🏻
My pleasure! Thank you for watching. Also enjoy your videos as well.
Lume Shot thanks buddy. That’s great to hear. I need to up my video capability. Your footage is so damn sharp!
No way! Your videos are super clear. What's your set up / editing software if you don't mind? I'd like to up my producing game too!
Lume Shot thanks buddy. I use a Panasonic G80 (G85), which is decent but I only have one lens at the moment. I then edit in Final Cut Pro. How about you?
I usually rotate among my IphoneX at 4k, a nikon dslr ( can't remember the model off hand ) and a sony handy-cam. Each have their own purpose for the type of video I'm producing. As for editing software, I just use iMovie. Really want to get final cut but have been reluctant to buy it at the moment.
Excellent presentation, I learned a lot from watching this.
Glad to help! Thanks for watching
one tip from me:
to stop the second hand moving, you could also just block the balance spring CAREFULLY AND GENTLE!!!! with Rodico.
We do this in the watch manufactury where i work, but you gotta be, as i said, extremely careful and dont forget to take the Rodico off again in the end, lmao.
It's sad that the Seikos dont have a second-stop function, but you cant get everything at this pricepoint, theyre pretty insane anyway.
Where do you acquire your Modification Supplies?? (i.e. bezels, crystals, etc...?)
New subscriber here.
Awesome video on Seiko mod! This guy has patience and appreciates attention to details. 👍🏼
Incredible detail in your video very pleased I watched it as about to purchase my first Seiko (skx007)
Good video; my only comment is; I've polished up my case and it got hot; so you could/should have polished it while the internals were all out and the case was empty. But I think I will be modding mine!
Good point! The bezel polishing was never intensive enough to get too hot but note taken!
Excellent no bullshit tutorial with some very useful tips. Thank you!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
Nice work. I don't know if I would have the patience but the video does justice to the effort it takes. Good work.
I tried asking my watchmaker where I usually get my JLC serviced to change the dial for my Seiko 55 fathom and he tell me it cant be done cos it just won't fit lol thanks so much for posting this up man!! The noob just lost a regular customer, I wonder if he cant even do something this simple wtf did he do when servicing my watches!!
I feel bad for the day/date wheels...they'll never see the light of day
An unfortunate sacrifice for the aesthetics.
RIP
we need a dial for the orient bambino ss that kills the date wheel
I wonder. Since they are hidden, can't we remove the plastic gears that move them since they aren't being used?
K Chu Yes you can.
An excellent demonstration and explained very well.
Thank you for watching!
You wizard!! Thank you so much for making this and being so informative, your attention to detail is very appreciated!
Nice mod. I love the Black Bay dial and snowflake hands.
Excellent work man, inspiring me to do my own.
Thank you! Definitely give it a try, it's a lot of fun!
Well done. I would have polished before reassembly but I understand why you did it this way. Watch looks great.
Well done, Eric. Thanks for the video and Happy New Year.
Beautiful! Where did you get the hands and dials from?
Made a relatively cheap watch look sexy af
Thanks!
This the THE best tutorial I've come across...Thank you. Btw I'm currently modding an SNKL Model. Are there any case backs with a Sapphire Crystal out there for purchase??
hey I was wondering where you got the dial from, just thought it looked great
ty
Exactly what I was looking for! I’m planning on modding my SNK807 with a California Dial and while that scares the crap outta me you gotta start somewhere right?
NICE WORK! It would be great if you list links to all the products, components, and tools you use in the details section. ...please.
Apologies, should have included that. I'll make sure to do a video about the materials and where to get them. Thanks for watching!
That looks really nice, can you link where to get different dials please?
Thank you for showing your craft. Where do you purchase your dials?
Fantastic job! Thanks for bringing us along. Subscribed!
Thank you for the support! Hope you enjoyed!
Nice mod! What was the size of the replacement dial you used for this seiko snk809?
Hey! I'd like to ask, if in that case, or any other seiko 5 case, can you fit the NH movements?
Good stuff dude! Would love to see more mod videos!
Super clear instruction! Thanks!
Thank you for watching! Hope it helps!
Nice tutorial ! 👌
But... I don't get why you need to keep the hands aligned in the same position as you don't use the day-date. 🤔
...
On my side, I'm just gonna (try to) mod my snkl23 with a NH36 and new 'Omega-like' arrow hands set.
Maybe the dial too but not sure for now as I really like the original striped dial.
I've already changed the strap to a leather brown crocodile with Omega deployant clasp: It really feels like an Aqua Terra already.
This will be my 'Baby Omega Aqua Terra' mod: Yes, my BOAT mod ! 😎😅
Great instruction video. Best I've seen. Great job!
Great video, ¿is it possible to fit a NH36 or NH35 movement in a snk sleeve? , I only ask because 37 mm is the perfect fit for me.
A very beautiful watch you made there!
Thank you for the kind words!
Could you make a seiko snk/ Rolex explorer 1 mod video?
thank you so much. if you dont have the drummel tool for polishing . do you think you would be able to do it by hand?
electric toothbrush?
Hi, I would like to try my first mob following your instructions! That's very inspiring, thanks
Where can I find the parts. I was looking online but I couldn't find a dial like the one you are using..
Google for lucius atelier
Seiko snxj90 but with a blue sunburst dial oris big crown style hands and a brown gator strap, and a hacking, hand winding movement. And a domed sapphire crystal
Great video. Just to check, do you set the hands to 12 noon rather than midnight to not interfere with the day/date change or does it not really matter?
It does matter. Never work on your watch at 12AM, it can lead to serious problems.
Tom Cookson did some work on one of my watches at 12am and now the date complication is broken :/
Dude this is insane! Where did you get the parts I wanna do this so bad!
Once the case back is off you should release the tension on the mainspring first so there is no power, then adjust the handset to midnight date change, this saves all the fuss you went through.
That would require partial disassembly of the movement including the rotor side and entire dial face side of the movement so the cannon pinion isn't damaged while turned over face down to work on the rotor side. Then reassembly of those parts. In retrospect, it would be much easier, less risky, and quicker to proceed with the method as demonstrated above.
Great video. Very informative. But i noticed at 5:19 &5:20 as you were putting the stem back in to set the hands back to the 12 o clock position there was a hair stuck to it which looked like it went in to the watch as you pushed it in. 👍
Timur Hafouz ah yes. Noticed that as well. It wasnt pushed into the movement but rather remained on the stem closer to the crown while the opposite end of the stem was pushed in.
Lume Shot. No problem. It wasn't meant to be a criticism just something i saw while watching it on my tv. It really stood out so i thought I'd let you know. Great video. Probably one of the best detailed.
Constructive criticism is always good! Thank you for the kind words.
Hi sorry for commenting on an old video, but do you think this can be taken a step further by replacing the movement to NH35 and putting in a bigger crown?
Possible to changed the 7S26 movement to the NH36? Thanks
I need a tutorial on trimming the stem for the crown and proper length. That's the only part I'm worried about. If I can take apart a Canon L series camera lens and repair it's focus mechanism, building my first watch should be a walk in the park.
Great looking mod. You make it almost look easy. Do you know which lume those hands and dial use?
I believe it is a mix of C1 and C3 superluminova!
Hi, great tutorial! I love the Black Bay 36 and I'm wondering if you can think of a similar looking watch that can be modified like this that has hacking and hand winding (even if it has an ETA movement). Or would such movement fit in this case? Thank you!
Thank you! Yes, an SKX007 can be used for the case. The bezel would have to be replaced by a smooth aftermarket bezel and a new movement would have to be used like a NH35a which is hand winding and hacking.
Wow is that Tudor hands on that Seiko?
What type of dial is that?
Can you use cape cod polishing cloth to get the same effect?
Nice looking, I will try with skx173.
Is it possible to replace a broken mouvement of a seiko 5 using this method please ?
This is an awesome beginners guide to modding a watch 👌👌👌
Thank you! Tried to be as clear as possible for anyone to try. Thanks for watching!
Nice tutorial. Very informative. +1 on your subscribers. 👍
Seiko NH35 would fit as a replacement. Better than the Seiko 7S26 and available on eBay for under £50.
Is there a website to get different dials and hands?
hello I like your videos, I am going to make a seiko snk mod, and I would like to give me the information of where to buy the dial and the needles and give me the measurements of these and where to get them, thanks and congratulations on your mods
Hello Great vid.
I have a Seiko Urchin will any Seiko 5 dial fit on this watch?
Do you have a place that you buy hands from? I am considering buying the snk803(?) with the cream dial and I want to do a small mod of putting blue hands on it as I think that'd look amazing
also what's the point of reinserting the crown to check for hand alignment at different times? the hand and minute hand advance ratio is constant due to the gear ratios in the movement, so if they are aligned at one hour, they will be aligned at any hour
The hands may seem to appear aligned upon installing them, but thats not always the case. Its best to check that they align up in different positions other than the 12 position. For instance, its easier to tell if the hands are aligned at the 6'oclock position since they should be linear opposed to a position like 4'o clock. Same with the 3 and 9'o clock position, its easier to detect for perpendicularity than a 120 degrees position on the 4'o clock. However everything is up to the individual and is a matter of if you care enough to check if everything is okay. This was not my personal watch as it was for a customer so I took extra measure stop make sure everything was perfect. Yes if it is perfectly aligned up at 12 or at 1, everything else should be aligned theoretically but that also depends on if the hands were inserted evenly into the pivot. If they were installed at an angle, it won't necessarily align up perfectly at other positions aside from its inserted position.
Hi, thank you for sharing, the mod comes out very nicely after polishing!
I have a question - I gave my Seiko Alpinist for service today and it costs me 100 euro or even more if there will be something else except cleaning and changing oil. Is this is a normal price for the service? And how much it may cost if something is broken? The watch is losing time from 20 seconds to 10 minutes per day depending on orientation, that's why I decided to give it for service..
Thank you for watching! I believe it would depend on the reputation of the watch maker. Some places charge outrageously more than the others however I haven't taken in a seiko for a service before. Usually most Submariners can be serviced for $500 from a Rolex trained maker. Of course taking it into the RSC would cost more. I would ask for a quote from the watch maker before any work is done and compare the price with other makers around to get a general idea of the price.
Ringer1982 And how much did you pay for service?
Is this affect the water resistant?
as long as the movement is a 7s26 can I assume that the parts are interchangeable?
may i ask you where can i get that dial? thnx
I would like modify my Seiko SNK807 to same as like this. If I send my watch, can you do that for me?
Can you use turtle dials on skx007?
Can a snk809 change and use bezel like the skx007
Hi, nice video, did you take it back apart to remove the mark at 3 o'clock.
Thank you! I always inspect my watches for any dust afterwards. Was definitely taken off.
A toilet seat drops at 9:43
is the dial diameter 29 mm suitable for Seiko SNK809K1?
Are the dial feet symmetrical to where the dial can be installed upside down, lefty style?
Unfortunately the dial feet are not symmetrical to allow for a LHD conversion. In theory the dial feet could be removed and attached with dial dots for a left hand configuration.
Q. I usually do this on a "Naked" case. I'm curious, are you not worried about the crystal getting marked up or scrached?
Are the bezels removable on the snk807?
This dude can make an open heart surgery on a Jeep...
hahaha thats my dream career
Nicolas Almazan I
Now there's an image!
I will use my SNK805 as lab rat, will try do something with it and then will see what can I do for my SKX013 and Orient Mako II Pepsi. I have to start learning these simple things, you just need not to be scared and work slowly and carefully, no rush...
Can you tell where did you buy hands and dial?
What other movements can fit in an snk80x?
Awesome tutorial thanks a lot
this is awesome! where can i buy parts for the skx007? any hints?
Searching on google for seiko mod parts should give a ton of results!
I have zero idea about Seiko mods, but if you want that style in shiny isn't SNK789, SNXS73 or 79 a better alternative? It comes with a shiny case. I find this modding intriguing. So any 28.5mm dial can do? Can't the pins just be cut if they don't match?
where did you get the dial and hands
Seiko has become the Honda of watch modding...
haha this is so true! THE WATCH RICER!
Why didn’t you remove the bezel before polishing? :D
Hello thanks for the great tut. Where can I buy those dial set? Thank you.
From dagaz! A google search as mentioned should bring you to it. Thanks for watching!
