    Just received my modded SKX007 w/ upgraded movement & crystal, sub bezel w ceramic Batman insert & PADI deep blue dial w/ merc hands. Your choice of component parts was excellent! Workmanship absolutely flawless!! Outstanding job: On budget and ahead of schedule. Strongest possible endorsement. Thanks!

    Thank you for this tutorial! The other day I dropped my beloved little Seiko 5 SNK807 and the second hand popped off. My wife said, "Maybe you can fix it." I thought there was no way, but after watching your video I ordered the tools to give it a try and it worked! Good as new! (And, as usual, my wife was right.)

    • @Tennisfiles
      @Tennisfiles 4 года назад

      Is there some sort of notch or protruding metal that inserts into the spot where the seconds hands should go? I haven't been able to insert the seconds hand yet but I don't have that tool yet so maybe that's the key. Otherwise I'm fearful I make have broken the seconds hand. Thanks!

    Great work Eric!! For anyone watching the video, I ran into Eric's channel and was amazed by his mods. I reached out to him for the same mod as in the video. I asked for the BB58 dial and hands instead of the original white dial and hands. I received the finished product via mail yesterday and it is absolutely beautiful! The watch has the appearance of the BB but for a fraction of the cost. Would definitely recommend Eric for anyone wants a modded watch. Good shit Eric!

    Thank you so much for taking the time to put together a very detailed video on how to perform this detailed mod. Before watching this video I went to a local watch dealer and inquired if he would a mod on my Seiko SKX009 and to my surprise he said yes but that he would not guarantee that the watch would work after he completed the mod. So needless to say I didn’t have him perform this work. But thanks to your video I have completed the work myself without any issues. Thanks again for a great mod video. It was excellent !!!

      I usually rotate among my IphoneX at 4k, a nikon dslr ( can't remember the model off hand ) and a sony handy-cam. Each have their own purpose for the type of video I'm producing. As for editing software, I just use iMovie. Really want to get final cut but have been reluctant to buy it at the moment.

    one tip from me:
    to stop the second hand moving, you could also just block the balance spring CAREFULLY AND GENTLE!!!! with Rodico.
    We do this in the watch manufactury where i work, but you gotta be, as i said, extremely careful and dont forget to take the Rodico off again in the end, lmao.
    It's sad that the Seikos dont have a second-stop function, but you cant get everything at this pricepoint, theyre pretty insane anyway.

    But... I don't get why you need to keep the hands aligned in the same position as you don't use the day-date. 🤔
    ...
    On my side, I'm just gonna (try to) mod my snkl23 with a NH36 and new 'Omega-like' arrow hands set.
    Maybe the dial too but not sure for now as I really like the original striped dial.
    I've already changed the strap to a leather brown crocodile with Omega deployant clasp: It really feels like an Aqua Terra already.
    This will be my 'Baby Omega Aqua Terra' mod: Yes, my BOAT mod ! 😎😅

  • @cmb1972

    Once the case back is off you should release the tension on the mainspring first so there is no power, then adjust the handset to midnight date change, this saves all the fuss you went through.

    • @LumeShot
      @LumeShot  7 лет назад

      That would require partial disassembly of the movement including the rotor side and entire dial face side of the movement so the cannon pinion isn't damaged while turned over face down to work on the rotor side. Then reassembly of those parts. In retrospect, it would be much easier, less risky, and quicker to proceed with the method as demonstrated above.

  • @MrTimstaaa

    Great video. Very informative. But i noticed at 5:19 &5:20 as you were putting the stem back in to set the hands back to the 12 o clock position there was a hair stuck to it which looked like it went in to the watch as you pushed it in. 👍

    • @LumeShot
      @LumeShot  7 лет назад +1

      Timur Hafouz ah yes. Noticed that as well. It wasnt pushed into the movement but rather remained on the stem closer to the crown while the opposite end of the stem was pushed in.

      Lume Shot. No problem. It wasn't meant to be a criticism just something i saw while watching it on my tv. It really stood out so i thought I'd let you know. Great video. Probably one of the best detailed.

    I need a tutorial on trimming the stem for the crown and proper length. That's the only part I'm worried about. If I can take apart a Canon L series camera lens and repair it's focus mechanism, building my first watch should be a walk in the park.

    Hi, great tutorial! I love the Black Bay 36 and I'm wondering if you can think of a similar looking watch that can be modified like this that has hacking and hand winding (even if it has an ETA movement). Or would such movement fit in this case? Thank you!

    • @LumeShot
      @LumeShot  7 лет назад

      Thank you! Yes, an SKX007 can be used for the case. The bezel would have to be replaced by a smooth aftermarket bezel and a new movement would have to be used like a NH35a which is hand winding and hacking.

    also what's the point of reinserting the crown to check for hand alignment at different times? the hand and minute hand advance ratio is constant due to the gear ratios in the movement, so if they are aligned at one hour, they will be aligned at any hour

    • @LumeShot
      @LumeShot  7 лет назад +1

      The hands may seem to appear aligned upon installing them, but thats not always the case. Its best to check that they align up in different positions other than the 12 position. For instance, its easier to tell if the hands are aligned at the 6'oclock position since they should be linear opposed to a position like 4'o clock. Same with the 3 and 9'o clock position, its easier to detect for perpendicularity than a 120 degrees position on the 4'o clock. However everything is up to the individual and is a matter of if you care enough to check if everything is okay. This was not my personal watch as it was for a customer so I took extra measure stop make sure everything was perfect. Yes if it is perfectly aligned up at 12 or at 1, everything else should be aligned theoretically but that also depends on if the hands were inserted evenly into the pivot. If they were installed at an angle, it won't necessarily align up perfectly at other positions aside from its inserted position.

    Hi, thank you for sharing, the mod comes out very nicely after polishing!
    I have a question - I gave my Seiko Alpinist for service today and it costs me 100 euro or even more if there will be something else except cleaning and changing oil. Is this is a normal price for the service? And how much it may cost if something is broken? The watch is losing time from 20 seconds to 10 minutes per day depending on orientation, that's why I decided to give it for service..

      Thank you for watching! I believe it would depend on the reputation of the watch maker. Some places charge outrageously more than the others however I haven't taken in a seiko for a service before. Usually most Submariners can be serviced for $500 from a Rolex trained maker. Of course taking it into the RSC would cost more. I would ask for a quote from the watch maker before any work is done and compare the price with other makers around to get a general idea of the price.

    Are the dial feet symmetrical to where the dial can be installed upside down, lefty style?

    • @LumeShot
      @LumeShot  6 лет назад

      Unfortunately the dial feet are not symmetrical to allow for a LHD conversion. In theory the dial feet could be removed and attached with dial dots for a left hand configuration.

    I have zero idea about Seiko mods, but if you want that style in shiny isn't SNK789, SNXS73 or 79 a better alternative? It comes with a shiny case. I find this modding intriguing. So any 28.5mm dial can do? Can't the pins just be cut if they don't match?
