    Consider this a five-star review from a verified purchaser, the delighted owner of Eric’s poster child SKX007 mod.
    I loved my SKX when I put it in a box and sent it to Eric. Communication was excellent throughout a friction-free transaction, and in the end, I’m wearing the perfected edition. Changed the way I think about the watch and keeps way better time.
    If you love the face but tire of the shuffle and reset routine, Eric is your guy.

    Thanks for the video. I broke my skx013 a week ago when I tried regulating it and accidentally touching the hairspring. I was so discouraged I just left it in my drawer because I didn’t want to even look at it. Btw, the 4r and Nh movements have an important jewel upgrade that extends the life of the movement by 14 to 20 year : factory jewelled mainspring arbor ports. 7s movements don't have that.

  • @oldcoldwarrior
    @oldcoldwarrior 6 лет назад +56

    Well done! You have a gift for concise explanation. Most broadcasters ramble on, get off topic, over explain simple details and generally produce long videos with little substance. You don't waste a word or an action. Very informative and most enjoyable to watch.
    I am conducting research for doing this mod to an SKX013 that I have. I love that little watch, but she needs hand winding, hacking and a sapphire crystal to make her truly great.
    Have you put this movement in the smaller SKX yet?

    Thanks for this upgrade video. When you reinstall the c clip on the date wheel, you absolutely need to make sure the curved side of the c clip is facing down on the cannon pinion and not up. Otherwise, it will be next to impossible to remove the c clip the next time for servicing. Ask me how I know.

    Eric modded my SKX007 with the NH36 movement with ceramic lumed dial and domed AR sapphire crystal. He did a fantastic job and the service was quick. It’s all I’m wearing on my wrist these days. • @esvegateban
    @esvegateban 9 месяцев назад +1

    Of course to avoid exchanging the date wheel, you could just order an NH36 movement for "crown at 3.8 position" and be done with it. Also, the black ring fitting tighter than the gray ring must be due to factory tolerances and is not relevant, as the movement is anyway pressed between the chapter ring and the caseback lip, so don't worry about it if you're using an original SKX case or fully compatible one.

  • @TheGoodwolfe

    Thanks very much for doing this video! You've given very thorough, detailed instructions to make the modification. This really struck home for me, as like you, non-hacking, non-hand winding for the SKX models has been a real issue I can't overlook. Of course anyone watching and nodding along can't help asking themselves why in the world Seiko hasn't done this themselves!

    • @LumeShot
      @LumeShot  6 лет назад +3

      Glad it was of help! The 7s26 is for the most basic of watches in the seiko line up while the 4r36 is reserved for the next tier up watches unfortunately. The SKX seems to be considered a base level watch. Thanks for watching!

And while their at it, for god sake, take care of the markers on the dial..... how hard can it be? Love the SKX design, won't buy it, it is finished poorly.

    I remember going into a Seiko outlet store (lowest prices at the time) in the mid 2000's. I asked the employee why some watches cost more than others. I actually remember that the two watches were the SKX007 (entry level she said) and an orange Monster. She said the SKX didn't hack or wind. After explaining to me what that meant, I thought that I didn't want an SKX. And I thought the SKX was too expensive. Of course, 2 decades later I wish I had bought one. 😃😃😃

    Well was following the instructions to the letter but when putting on the black housing I don't know what happened but the date for the day/date function has stopped working and the crown won't turn in that direction when pulled into the date changing position. So everything works but it is always the 9th. Just going to buy a new SKX. I only changed the movement because I dropped the watch after going through TSA, and it stopped working. Great video but @ReneBense may be on to something. Don't open your watch unless you know what your doing or this is your passion and understand that stuff happens and it may just break. It may be better to have a professional to handle it. Either what great video but it didn't go well for me lol.

    Thanks again for this content! Is there a way to overcome the day wheel swap and the plastic movement holder swap if you do not have a 7s26 to swap parts with? Since crystal times and Namoki has after market skx style cases, there is not much of an incentive to buy a whole skx since the parts can be sourced individually. I’m curious how you have been overcoming this hurdle now for a ground up build. Does the alignment issues for the 4 o’ clock crown hold true if you are doing a build with both for the NH35 (date complication only) and NH36a (day date complication)?

    Great video!! I wish I can DIY mod my SKX to be just like yours. I love the design, size and everything but the manual wind lacking really puts me off.

    Excellent video and great work. It does make you wonder when Seiko will just move with the times, and install NH36 from factory.

  • @SirBeauJangles

    Very clever. But I can do okay without full hacking when you can softly back-turn the crown and it arrests the second hand movement enough to let you get it into synch. Wonder how much this modification cost in parts?

    • @TourGuide223
      @TourGuide223 5 лет назад

      nh36 movement costs 45-50 dollars and the crown/stem would run you only a couple of dollars.

    Just starting this new "watch" hobby and looking forward to the exact mod. Please clarify - now that the watch is manual wind - it will stop working unless manually wound daily or within the reserve time period?
    Great vid - would have liked to see the clipping to size of the stem.

    Hello. Like your videos on watch modification. Please tell me whether it is possible to install nh36 in the skx013 case? If not, what mechanism can be installed instead of the 7s26 in the skx013 case?

    Nice job on the video and the watch. I have two automatic mechanicals and they both wind. One has hacking but the other has not, I suspect because it has two balance wheels it's harder to accomplish.

    Great tutorial! 2 questions: 1. How many c clips have you lost removing them that way? 2. Does the SNK crown unscrew from the original stem or will I have to source a new crown for an SNK mod in the same way as with the SKX?

    • @robertbrandywine
      @robertbrandywine 8 месяцев назад +1

      I was told that both the SNK and the SKX crowns will come off with the application of heat to melt the thread locker.

    Doesthe new movement or crown affect the watche's waterproofness?

    • @moswap3876
      @moswap3876 4 года назад

      Around 19:33 you can see that the dimensions of the O-Ring(gasket) are different. This will result in a different compression of it and thus less/more waterproofness.
      You can see the different ring size here as well: seikoparts.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/qfrzft1.jpg
      To be compared for sure, the material and correct dimensions of the O-Ring are needed.
      Despite that I think the main seal is inside the crowns head, and will be compressed when screwing the crown on. Since the thread size is the same that shouldn't affect the waterproofness a lot.
      But make sure to pressure test the case if you really need a waterproof watch. Use a pressure of at least 20 Bar for 200m.

    One day soon Seiko will wake up and supply these popular watches with a decent handwinding and hacking movement like a 4r36 or even the cheaper nh36 as you are using here. Also with Sapphire instead of the Hardlex scratch magnet chrystal.

    Great video, just subscribed! I was wondering If it would be easier to remove the canon pinion instead of the circlip to remove the day wheel.

    • @LumeShot
      @LumeShot  6 лет назад +2

      Thanks for the support! The canon pinion is much more risky to remove. It MUST be perfectly straight up and undamaged in the slightest way. There are special tools just to remove the canon pinion. If given the choice, I would choose to remove the C clip every time.
