    A Mod is only for the person that owns it. Certainly one can buy a C-Tank watch or an IWC that speaks just to its owner, but a Modded watch becomes as much a part of its owner's originality as do the freckles on their hands. Modding is completely and absolutely worth it. This is a very good "review" of and for a Mod.

    I purchased my first modded sxk, the only thing as factory is the dial (same as in this vid). It’s all black case and bezel (yacht master style) with a NH36A movement, a double domed crystal with a red anti reflected coating, red inner chapter ring, red signed threaded crown in black, red minute hand with the second and hour in black, and black background day/date wheel with white text, it’s sitting on a black leather strap with red stitching...... 2 months on I still can’t stop looking at it, I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I couldn’t be happier with my purchase..... and that’s the point of modded watches, it will always be perfect for you. I have watches up to tens of thousands in my collection but this is still one of my favourites.

      You can see if the kanji says
      "一、二、三、四、五、六、日"
      or
      "月、火、水、木、金、土、日"
      The former is more Mandarin, meaning "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, sun". Such characters also appears in Japanese kanji.
      The latter is Japanese, meaning "moon, fire, water, wood, metal, earth, sun". Such characters comes from Mandarin, but in Mandarin we don't use them to say the day.
      Japanese day names come from the first character of the planet in certain planetary hours.
      If it's a JDM 5KX, it's probably going to have the day wheel in the latter style :D

So, I modified mine with NAMOKI MOD SKX case with threads, threaded crown, solid steel case back and the SKX bezel insert. I think every Seiko fan should have at least one modded SKX. Mine is modded to look a vintage blue dial Seamaster and I put in on a shark mesh bracelet, Yobokies parts, done by NEWW and blasted all the polish off. Kind of a poor mans version of the blue titanium Seamaster 300. It looks cool, definite vintage beater tool watch kind of look, and I wear it like that. Out diving or fishing out on the boat or at the beach- any situation that I would be concerned about a more expensive watch accidentally falling off and being lost to the deep, and it is the watch to wear. Also, I have a SARG011 that I had cerekoted and the seconds hand painted a bit darker, and I have a Tag Auquaracer quartz that I had the lume done to vintage beige and also wear as a bit of a beater. Love them all. Likewise, every uber rich watch collector should have one modded Rolex Sub. :-) However I am not one of those who does a lot of modding, and never myself; I know that is its own niche in the collectors hobby.

    I love the classic diver watch. While a Rolex no date sub is still king in my book, and having owned some really nice divers like the Tudor pelagos, I felt I needed an SKX. But I wanted an upgraded movement, sapphire crystal, and some other personal touches like ceramic lumed insert, coin edge bezel, and the whole watch bead blasted. Not to mention everything lines up correctly. Jeff at Watchmakers 4 does incredible work and even depth rates it before sending it out. I get asked quite frequently what it is, because though it’s just a Seiko it really stands out. For reliability it’s always going to be quartz for me (citizen promaster diver FTW) but automatics are something I feel everyone should own at least once.

    This one goes beyond a typical mod, as it only uses the dial (and movement?) from the original watch. Why start with a 5kx, spending unnecessary money for the entire watch, when you could just use a 5kx OEM parts dial, (or any dial of your choice) since you’re swapping out the case, bezel, hands, etc. All of the parts necessary to build a custom SKX inspired ‘homage’ can be had from a variety of sources. Did 444Pm pressure test this build?

    Oh man that modded 5kx VERY GRAND SEIKO LOOKING need to try that style
    Which 5kx number model is that?
    Have always hated the stock hands on the 5kx cause the dial feels so cluttered but that watch you got is so clean I like those hands keeps all simple on such a awkward confusing dial that has a lot going on
    Wait what XD 6:15 who made the handset?

    I have a red dial Orient Kamasu that I hope to mod some day. Nothing as drastic, or cool, as this Seiko, though.

    The only mod I did was an anti reflective sapphire crystal. Might as well buy another watch if you want to change the rest.

    Could somebody please explain me something?
    So I just got a new Seiko 5 with a 4R36 movement. However, I don't feel any resistance from the crown when hand- winding, even if I wind it 100 times. Is this normal with the 4R36 movement? Thank you for reading this ;)

    • @daylightsensor8695
      @daylightsensor8695 4 года назад +2

      Do you hear any clicking while trying to wind it? If no it might be defective. Also make sure you don't have it in time or date set mode

    • @amaanpatel9889
      @amaanpatel9889 4 года назад +1

      @@daylightsensor8695 thanks for the feedback. Yes,there is clicking, and the crown is fully pushed in. Should there not be resistance from the crown once it's close to fully wound up?

    • @RoniDor
      @RoniDor 4 года назад

      There is no resistance in an automatic movement after about 30 turns of the crown it should be fully wound, the resistance you refer to is only in a mechenical movment

    • @daylightsensor8695
      @daylightsensor8695 4 года назад

      @@amaanpatel9889 you shouldnt feel much resistance, only barely enough to notice it.
      last resort would be letting it die and then winding it manually to see if it starts again. if it doesnt, then its probably broken

    • @amaanpatel9889
      @amaanpatel9889 4 года назад

      Thanks so much gents! Well I did let it die and it did start to move when hand wound. However, the gears ( which I see through the exhibition caseback) still move when I wind it, more than 50 winds and the gears would still be moving when wound. Is this normal?

    Personally I hate the word modding being used on watches unless you actually have it modded and not just parts changed. Also you have that band that you bought in Milford so you know about the surfing in N. Hampton and Rye. I've been wearing an SRPD95 since the Fall through Winter, not so much Spring because of Covid and now Summer surfing and it has been through hell and it is perfectly fine. Only a moron would pull the crown when in water and the two times I have had water get into a watch was because I shattered the sapphire crystals which is why Hardlex is superior when you are in the water. I just wish Seiko brought back Sapphlex. Nice watch you got there and Happy 31st

    Modding is popular, but not my cup of tea. Even the guy with the sissy T-Rex for a friend has discussed it and noted that some people actually mod out Rolex's. The SKX with all of it's warts is just that, an SKX - arguably one of the most iconic timepieces ever created (even at it's ridiculously low price point). It doesn't hack, it doesn't hand wind, it usually gains 15-20 seconds a day and most owners have a scratched crystal, but it's still an SKX. Once modded, it might look cool, but now it's nothing - like a rubber engine mount Harley that doesn't shake at red lights. The warts ARE the watch!
