    I just did my first ever hands installation, watched this vid 3 times beforehand, and I'm amazed! It worked! I didn't have the putty, so I used masking tape to pick up the hands, took a couple of tries for each hand but I just went slowly, calmly, and again, sloooooowly, and suddenly it was done! Thanks so much!

      Henry M. For sure. Hand setting is the most nerve wrecking part. Too much pressure then you have touching hands. Too little, then theyre not on well enough to stay. Practice and patience is the only way!

    Thank you for the great content! It's REALLY helpful for beginners like myself! Question... Retrospectively, do you think it's mandatory to use a movement holder (the brass mount that can hold the movement) to install hands? I'm not planning on doing the operation many times and was wondering if I can get away (and don't damage the bottom of the movement) with just placing the movement on a soft piece of leather or cloth (like you did in this video). Thanks for the help!

    I'll be doing a GMT quartz movement replacement Ronda 515-24H. I'm wondering if the 24 hour hand should be calibrated when installed on the new movement. Normal function is independent of the other hand settings. When setting the GMT I turn the crown counter clockwise in the first position. I follow you how to synchronize the hands to make sure they are in tune with the midnight date change. Thanks!

      @@LumeShot help!!! My fossil ch3045 watch crown turns smoothly and works until my hour hand moves an hour from its previous position (12-1, etc). Then it starts clicking and nothing moves. If I turn it back it's the reverse and stops the hour hands and the crown starts clicking like it's being stopped...

      That means that the second hand isn’t properly in the center of the pinion. Just take a tooth pick to remove it and center it better. It’s a bit harder to do with higher set hands, but it can take a few tries before getting it in right

    I’ve seen somebody post on another video saying that installing the hands while on midnight will break the day/date complication. I don’t see how you could install the hands in any other position without it being misaligned, could you clarify that for me??

    • @daviddeckert
      @daviddeckert 5 лет назад

      If you know where the hands should be prior to removing (take a picture to help remember) then you can reinstall at any position that doesn't conflict with whatever tools you're using to get them on. It also helps to work on a non-moving movement unless you're just very quick!
      Regarding the cheap Seiko auto movement, it already takes "forever" for the date/day change to occur. From the factory, it starts changing at midnight but doesn't completely finish until 3am or so, since it'll first go through the alternate day language.
      So if you put new hands on, and discover the cycle begins changing at around 11pm or doesn't complete the change until around 4am ... you're not actually too far off from "ideal."

      Yup, but it wouldnt be as precise as setting it to 12 after removing it. The movement might continue to run after taking off the hands, which could put it to 12:01, 12:02, etc. depending on how long you take to set the hands after removing them.

    Pro tip, the dial protectors suck ass on a watch with raised indexes, since they will catch and bend the hands upwards. That was a $50 dollar mistake. Use a ziplock bag to remove the hands like he did in his other videos.
