- Hey folks! Let's take a look at a ceramic bezel insert from L.C.B.I. (Lumed Ceramic Bezel Inserts). If you want to skip ahead to it already installed and to the lume check, go to 10:33. I fumble about a bit and my camera appeared focused in the LCD display. That pisses me off. OR, my vision sucks. That's probably more so the case :p But guys, I am actually pretty stoked on these inserts. At first I wasn't so jazzed but after putting it on the watch, boom! Looks good!

I was 15 and a freshman in high school. My buddy Vernon had just gotten his license and subsequent use of his mom's Nissan Pathfinder. Shortly after and on a Friday night, Vernon picked me up along with my other friend Alex and Kimo (I think it was Kimo).
We went to a party at this one park that everyone went to go party at. It was a different time, man. Huge, raging parties happened there and no one cared. It was good times.
At midnight and on our way out from the party, Vernon had started to play Pantera on his ghetto system. We were about to cross the bridge when Kimo yells out: "Punch it, Vernon! I wanna DIE TONIGHT!" Followed by laughter. Vernon did exactly that. He stepped on the gas all the way. I was sitting in the back seat along with Alex.
We crossed the small bridge doing about 50 miles per hour (80.4672km/h) and since it was a Nissan Pathfinder and not oh you know, an ARIEL ATOM that could handle the on-coming right angle turn, we crashed into the side of the mountain then flipped. I remember it being like I was in a slow motion scene during a movie. The world spun then I saw the roof of the Pathfinder cave in. Luckily for myself and Alex, the back of the suv was full of bodyboards which are made out of foam. They got tossed forward and prevent Alex and I from getting hurt.
Vernon and Kimo on the other hand, were not so lucky. For some reason, their hands went through the front window. Both of them sustained some pretty gnarly cuts.
Aftermath: We bolted from the scene as we thought the Nissan was going to explode. It smelled like there was a fire happening. We ran back to the park to find some older gentleman sitting at one of the pavilions. They were drinking and we asked them for help. Vernon's had was bleeding pretty badly. The bigger Hawaiian guy grabs me and RIPS my shirt off. I felt violated lol. He used it to wrap Vern's hand until the ambulance arrived.
What a night. I don't know why but the next week during school, we were fucking legends.
It's probably a better idea to put the 3m adhesive on the bezel insert FIRST. lol.
minitwatch better yet put the tape insert in the bezel upside down then place the insert on top so that the tape is perfectly flush. then remove the insert with the tape now attached . peel off the paper and put it back in.

In order for contact cement to have full adhesion, you need to: 1. put a thin coat on BOTH surfaces to be glued. 2. Wait for all surfaces to dry to the touch. 3. Adhere both surfaces together.

I have one and love it! The 3M tape works great and the insert sits nice and flush with my bezel. Also the lume with a good charge lasts almost as long as the Seiko lume. Definitely one of the best inserts around!
Awesome! I am quite impressed by this insert! Also, I think the coin-edge that I have might be a bit more shallow than the original bezel. Is yours the stock bezel?

Awesome upgrade. I found your vid because I’m about to order the insert myself and wanted to know more about it. A word of advice though, contact cement has to be applied to both the bezel and the insert, wait a few minutes and then bind them together. That way the bond is really strong. Thanks for sharing.
Bluebirdives sapphire skx style is what I have on and it is the same lume color. Looks great, as the sapphire is clear and has depth.

A great way to lay that in perfectly is to cut a thin piece of blue painters' tape and stick it across the insert. That way you can lower it into place and get the alignment perfect. If you have a domed crystal, cut the tape in half and just stick it to the sides leaving the center open.
I would have done it at 12:00 and make sure the bezel is clicked in good so it could be set perfectly lined up. I love that bezel, but I am very hesitant on getting a Seiko Diver watch. I think it is an antiquated watch.

How do you change the lume color on the dial? I love the blueish color. Is it just applying new lume over the old one?

if you have the standard glue ring that comes with a standard watch which is used to glue the insert to the bezel. use a q tip dipped in laquer thinner and saturate the bezel. lightly pry between the crystal and beneath the insert and eventually it will work out easily without bending it.
Fresh! But I kind of like the other insert -- it looked less busy. However, it looks amazing in the dark. I use 5 minute epoxy for bezel inserts. It's a two part formula (Part A is the resin and Part B is the hardener). It dries clear in five minutes and can be scraped off like contact cement. I use Selleys Epoxy Fix but there are many different brands. Can't get high off it like contact cement though.
The other insert does add a bit of class to it huh? This insert is a lot more sporty. I really like both! I'll look into Selley's for sure. Thanks!
Noyce. I think you need to install knives that pop out when you turn the bezel now so you can be like some spy ninja dude on a bike.

Thanks, Dennis! I Believe the only inserts they make are for the SKX and SRP Turtles for now. I might have a suggestion. When I get home from work, i'll test this theory.

One question though, does it make sense to get a few different bezels and put different bezel inserts on each of them if you plan to change the look of the watch frequently by changing the bezel inserts, or is it better just to change bezel inserts?
It depends. If you are really good at popping off that bezel then absolutely yes. If you are a moron like me, probably not such a good idea :p

Nice watch dude i would love a vintage seiko but theyre all too small . My sweetspot watch wise is 43mm to 45mm. I got a seiko sportura kinetic 44mm which is perfect .
Hi, just wondering, Have you ever polished a Matt finish watch case and made it gloss? I have a few watches like that and I'm trying to figure out what to do for that. it'll be great if you can make like. video based on that because I think the gloss polished look would make any watch look classier. Thank you in advance, incase you make a video based on this.
I have a couple. I've polished up an SNK809, SNK803 and a SNGZ09. All of which were bead-blasted from the start. They are old and I have better methods now. Which watch do you have or are considering getting to do this to?

Man, that is such a fine looking watch that I want to build one for my son. I showed him your video and he also loves the watch. He is only 10 years old, so the watch is too big for him, but I want to build it with him, then wear it myself for a few years until he is big enough for it. It will be special for him. My last seiko, a quartz Sport 150, is 31 years old, wears the original band, and still keeps superb time. I am checking it now against the atomic clock at time.gov, and it is accurate TO THE SECOND after setting it November 1st. Unbelievable. Will you please provide me the recipe for this unit? I know its an SKX007 (do they have a good quartz model same size?), and I saw the lumed bezel info, but where did you get the crystal, the crystal-removal tool and the tools for removing the caseback and movement?

The bezel rotates, why does it matter if it's aligned?
It's called OCD. It would drive me crazy, too, just like it does Curt.
Valid question! Far too often, i'll receive a watch from a manufacturer like Orient or Seiko and the 12:00 bezel marker will not line up with the 12:00 marker on the chapter ring no matter what I do (my Orient Ray II is like this). For this reason, I make sure that the inserts In install are lined up perfectly after a good click. If there's play between clicks, I'll align the insert to the side that has more tension. It's mostly OCD as mountainhobo says :p

Should always dry fit the bezel before hand. Rarely are the a perfect fit, especially if your bezel is after market.
I still prefer the first bezel, has a dressy vibe about it

I don' t like this insert bezel, the design mmhh.... I prefer the PO insert that it had. And the lume is not of good quality. I like very much the sapphire crystal double domed and the coin edge. It' s only my opinion.
