    Frank Sinatra started in the 1930s btw. He was in his prime in the 50s and 60s, and kept singing until the 90s

    • @ILOVETHEPHILLIES1883
      @ILOVETHEPHILLIES1883 4 года назад +15

      Actually, his true prime was during WWII, because he didn't have to go to the war due to being "emotionally unstable." Rough Italian upbringing. During that time, his sultry voice sang every lonely woman, whose sweetheart was off to war, to sleep. He was the emotion for them that was absent in the Pacific or in Europe, and that never existed during the 20's and 30's. He really soared to the top with Tommy Dorsey and his Big Band in the late 30s and early 40s, but after the wars end, he was no longer useful in public America's eyes, and his career had a major low point in the late 40s and early 50s. However, he rose again to prominence in the middle 50s, and did have many career high points into the 60s. Truly, Sinatra was a man who knew how to fall and rise, again and again and again.

    You might be interested to know that Quincy Jones, the album's producer and conductor, was good friends with Frank. Quincy Jones is a great musician and arranger. He was the conductor and producer for a lot of singers in the last 50 years. You might know one of the recent singers, a guy named Michael Jackson, that is why the album "Thriller" was so good. There is nothing like an orchestra. Some of the musicians today wouldn't know how to sing with an orchestra if they had one.

    • @mikemorgan5015
      @mikemorgan5015 4 месяца назад

      While Jones and Sinatra may have been friends and did collaborate on projects, I don't think this is one of them. This was from the late 50s. I think you're confusing this with "Fly Me to the Moon" from the 60s album "It Might as Well Be Swing". Quincy Jones is a musical genius with more producing and arrangement credits of actual hits than probably anyone, ever. He simply(for him anyway) knew how to make it sound good.

  • @poetgb

    I like the way you guys are grooving to the song. Nobody could swing like Sinatra. Like you said, he had swag and style. Your reactions show that you understand good music even though it was from long ago. The music back then had a different sound than the music today. You should listen to Sinatra with the great Count Basie band on songs like ' I Wanna Be Around ' and 'I Believe In You '. Also listen to ' Star ', a big time swinger. I think you'll like those songs.

    If you’re digging Sinatra, I suggest “In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning,” the first song on his 1955 album “In the Wee Small Hours.” Emotionally it was a very low point (attempted suicide, breakdowns in the studio), and Frank arranged the songs to tell the story of his breakup with the love of his life, Ava Gardner. The album is...ahhh...chef’s kiss.

    Love your videos, guys! Your twin brother is more spot-on than he realizes when he says it reminds him of Christmas. This song comes straight out of the Big Band era. The first Christmas song ever recorded to try to sell was in 1942: Bing Crosby's "White Christmas." He received a lot of flack for trying to record and sell a song that would only be listened to one month a year. He got the last laugh. It sat atop the Billboard charts for 11 weeks, and is still to this day, the highest-selling single of all-time. Based on just how successful it was, everyone else in the era made a mad-dash to try to record Christmas music, which is why so many classic Christmas songs are associated with the Big Band style. Good ear, gentlemen! :-D

    Frank Sinatra was the first teen idol. In the 1940s, Sinatra began his recording career. He was so popular among the bobbiesoxer set that when he appeared in concert, the teenage girls would not only go into hysterics (screaming and crying) but some would actually pass out.

    My dad passed on to me his deep love of music. I still remember Papa taking me to see Duke Ellington when I was eleven or twelve. Ellington had his entire band with him and the experience gave me goosebumps. The music now is not to my taste. More than that, you can not achieve the same depth of sound with a computer. It is NOT the same at all. The big band sound will last forever. Not the same for the music out now. Sinatra is so revered because of his phrasing, hiws swagger and his voice. He had it all.

    Great video! I've been enjoying the reviews of Sinatra tracks, as I have been a huge Sinatra fan practically my whole life and saw him in person at the Greek Theater, L.A., around 1989/90. Though his voice had declined from its peak, he was still in control and sounding good. Merely to be in that space (an outdoor arena) was surreal. I have since learned much more about Sinatra and his brilliant career, but I treasure the memory of seeing him live. Thank God Sinatra left such a wide and deep variety of recordings for posterity to enjoy. Keep the vids coming, guys!

    Started out as a band singer with the Big Bands. He was a teen idol to his female fans (called Bobby - Soxers) they were screaming and fainting.
    Went to Hollywood and starred in musicals and then in the '50's got into dramatic roles - won an Academy Award for best supporting actor and from then on big star. Always singing, he was a big influence in early days of Las Vegas. "Old Blue Eyes" and "The Chairman of the Board"

    Frank Sinatra did a record with Luis Miguel about this song, and also Luis Miguel was invited on the 80s Aniversary of Sinatra. Frank Sinatra said once that he was one of the best singers thats he had ever listened. Luis Miguel has been admired by Quincy Jones, Chicago, José José, Alejandro Fernández, Ricky Martin, Vicente Fernández, Maná, Laura Pausini, David Bisbal, Alejandro Sanz, Michael Bubble, Michael Bolton, Anthony Hopkins, Ana Gabriel, Juan Gabriel, Camilo Sesto, Julio Iglesias, etc. He has selled more than 150 millions of CDs only working in Spanish, he has been in the Best Auditoriuims of Latín América, he has done movies, his voice is really amazing, his arrengements, letrers, elegant, smooth, vocal improvisations, his is not a commercial artist (of commercial I'm talking about to do the popular things), he always has had an elegant a romantic style, inspired in old music, giving it like Big Band and ballad style. I'll stop talking about him. He's like the Hispanic Sinatra (all the countries that talk in Spanish), but he is not an imitator, he has his own style, he's not like Michael Bubble imitator. I hope that all of you can watch videos of him, look here on RUclips to: Luis Miguel quiero vivo, Luis Miguel el Medley que hizo historia, Luis Miguel o tú o ninguna vivo, Luis Miguel tengo todo excepto a ti Montreal, Luis Miguel cantando a Frank Sinatra, Luis Miguel Best vocals 1, Luis Miguel Best vocals 2, Luis Miguel concierto vivo, Luis Miguel dormir contigo en vivo, Luis Miguel pensar en ti, Luis Miguel bravo amor bravo, and try to listen more about him. Check out In Spite of Ourselves by John Prine & Iris Dement, September Doves by Lost Dog Street Band, and Rather Low by Nick Shoulders. Would love to see yall react to more current folk/bluegrass music!!!

    Good point about only needing an Apple laptop today. You have to remember all the instruments and singing were played live...so if anyone in the band messed up, they had to start the recording over from scratch.

    Try some Tony Bennett. I think you'd really like him. I Left My Heart in San Francisco, Rags to Riches are a couple of his better known songs.

    Frank worked hard to get blacks accepted and respected in places like Las Vegas. The NAACP, a black civil rights organization, gave him a well deserved Lifetime Achievement Award not long before he died. Frank would be proud of you fellas and thrilled to know you enjoy his music in 2020.

    You should check out the movie "Guys and Dolls". Sinatra is one of the leads, it's a musical.
