$42,000. I am not kidding. That is the cost of replacement batteries for a zero electric motorcycle. There are seven batteries, each battery is $6000 in a zero. Don’t believe me, do the research before you even consider buying one, then come back here and give me the thumbs up I deserve for warning you.....
Automotive Territory: Trending News & Car Reviews My resources are first-hand testimony from a disillusioned zero owner.. he owns a business/ body shop/ collision shop.. he repairs wrecked cars for customers, or he buys totaled cars and fixes them and sells them himself. He does the same with motorcycles. That’s how he bought the zero a few years ago. It was totaled, mostly because of expensive road rash to parts but basically sound. He Repaired the superficial damage to the zero and had been riding it for a couple years. We share the same enthusiasm for Italian motorcycles. Owns many Ducati/Moto Moroni / guzzi Machines. He likes unusual bikes..That’s why he bought the zero for himself. I was in his shop having my own Guzzi to him for its annual state inspection sticker a few days ago (today’s date is June 9, 2019). I noticed the zero still sitting where it was sitting almost a year ago at his shop. I asked him what’s the story with that now. He told me the story about the batteries being $42,000. he told me,The battery pack consists of seven batteries, $6000 each. I ask him how much are these motorcycles new? He said when these came out they were around $20,000. But he did not buy his machine new..He bought it totaled from an insurance company. I asked him how did this happen to your battery. He said, he went on to a blog for electric motorcycles. One of the bloggers suggested that he would get greater range if he would discharge his batteries and then charge them. And that’s exactly what happened. He discharged the batteries, but they would not come back. He called zero company, and they told him that those batteries were in danger of catching fire in that discharged state. The batteries had actually swollen up / the cases of the batteries were bulging. He also has another electric motorcycle very similar to the zero called a victory. He bought it totaled from an insurance company, in hopes of getting the battery out of it to use in his zero. But when the motorcycle arrived, it was in too good of shape to cannibalize just for the batteries. So he resurrected the victory, and is able to ride that. I asked him if he tried other places to solve the battery problem for the zero? He said he has tried everything he can think of and everything that people on the blogs have suggested. The zero company talked him through the charging ritual and had him do the checklist to ensure that things were set up correctly and that he was doing it correctly. He was doing everything correctly, and the zero company told him that his battery is toast. If the new electric zero is approximately $15,000, I would have no way of knowing that, I have no interest in electric motorcycles. None. A footnote. I was looking on eBay for a possible battery for my buddy and I happen to find a battery for a two year old tesla automobile for sale. Now we’re talking about a two-year-old tesla battery out of a wrecked Tesla for sale on eBay. The starting price was $26,500 I’m not even slightly interested in teslas anymore either. Because I tend to keep my vehicles a long time. How long? I owned a Ford E150 van that I bought new in 1977, until 2008. Also: I own a 1958MGA that I bought in 1968. I still own it. I have a 1994 Honda pacific coast that I used for all these years as a commuter. I kept my 1986 Yamaha venture royale for 18 years, 138,000 trouble free miles.I still on my 1974 Yamaha RD 250 club racer Box Stock roadracing machine that I won six championships on/2 time national champion on.(AMA--W.E.R.A.) I have a Gibson electric guitar that I have owned since 1966.. My point is, I take care of my stuff, I keep things a long time if I like it..I just can’t see that ever happening with an electric motorcycle when the batteries cost almost twice as much as the vehicle did new.
Curtis Marean you did hear what the topspeed was right?? How long to recharge again??? Bicycles go faster then most of those without all the plastic and wiring and battery’s and... you know planet devouring stuff... don’t accept/support crappy Ideas!! We can do way better!
Love it. Can't meet my needs(yet) but I'm still watching. Battery technology is growing by leaps and bounds. I don't think it will be all that long before an adaquet battery will come along. Meanwhile I'll just have to live with my stinky noisy gasoline bike.
@@automotiveterritory I'd have to go with run time. If the battery pack is removable you could run one while the others recharge. (My phone has a removable battery and I carry several charged batteries all the time.)
An average phone lasts for less than a day. Do you imagine how large the battery pack of a motorcycle is? It don't see a scenario when it can be removable. Unless there will be several battery modules that could be extracted and be taken for charging.

I believe a moped is a motorcycle that has pedals, and if I'm not mistaken these bikes, don't have them. Underpowered? Yes, but motorcycles nonetheless
A e-bike (bicycle) may be a much better value. You can more range at a cheaper price. You can ride street or bike path. No registration fee. No insurance. No license or license plates. No helmet, you lock it to a bike rack. And you can get away with things on a bicycle (legally) that you can not on motorcycle. Most inexpensive e motorcycles don't go fast enough to travel on highways anyway.
how can they make such an awesome invention as a electric motorcycle but they can't figure out that the guy narrating this video can't speak understandable, clear English
If the EMflux does what is claimed and is built well it is THE breakthrough electric bike as far as I am concerned. For that price it is almost too good to be true compared to the others. So let's see. Will it loose half it's power and range for the basic version?
When I saw the specs for the DayMak EM2 I thought that must be a misprint. 20mph top speed and a range of 37 miles, neither of which would encourage sales. At least it tries to look the part.
I can only think of two benefits of having this: charging at home or having a set of batteries and changing between charged and empty ones. Is it something that you are expecting from electric motorcycles?
@@automotiveterritory I mainly want a "standard" battery type so I can find a cheap replacement battery in 10 years without having to worry if the company will still in business. Do I want a highway speed motorcycle that uses swappable batteries? Sure. It would be great to pull up to a store, swap batteries, and keep going for long cross country road trips, but it's not my main concern. That's years down the road.
Manufacturers don't like standardization and unfortunately it hurts consumers the most. I do have to agree with you on this one - the industry still has a long way to go but we all have to give them credit for reaching this level of development already. Newer bikes are going to surprise us more and more in the nearest future.
Price and range are the main concerns for me. Top speed doesn't have to be massive- I don't want to exceed the speed limit on a bike. If it maxes out at 65 or 70 I'm good, I just want to be able to cruise comfortably at 45 or 55 most of the time while having the capability to go a little faster if need be. The range needs to be over 100 miles for sure, 200 would be the long term goal, and the price needs to be less than 10k in order to interest me. I could go with less speed and range up to a point if the price is more like 5k. If you look at something like the Harley electric bike, that is a well put together machine that already has the type of performance I'm looking for- but I won't spend 30k on it. No way. It's coming along though, and at some point there's going to be a breakthrough model that performs well and is priced within the range that I'm willing to pay.
Electric motors do offer lots of torque right away but the range only depends on the size of the battery. Large batteries make such bikes too expensive or too heavy.
@@automotiveterritory plus any manufactures leaning to capacitor storage? I was hoping C-Motives work would contributed to this line of industry, yet haven't seen them reach out to this sector of products. I thankyou for responding to my questions. I would peak at Shezen electrostatic motors if not C-Motives. I would call these motors e field motors as it follows the principles of compacitance.
Now certainly seems like the time when e-motorbikes are starting to address the mass market. The closest yet to matching product to market would have to be Zero. A lot of the bikes shown here are styled on the current look of conventional sports ICE bikes. I thing the next 18 months will prove the market demand for e-motorcycles made with the standard seat posture can go 100 miles / 160 kms on a single charge has LED lights (Zeros don’t yet!) and has a base price point around $4500 and with extras up to $6000 (£5000 or €5500). Meanwhile I’ll wait and keep watching - as I continue to get about town on my 2000watt hub motor e-mountain-bike - top speed 36 mph range 10 to 16 miles - cost 3 years ago £1500.
I wonder how much it would cost if I was to just take this old blown up GSXR and put a fork truck motor on it with a couple deep cycle dry cell marine batteries? The Yale fork truck weighs 5000 lbs compared to a 600 lb GSXR and the fork truck would go 20 mph forward and reverse. You could do a lot with gearing the chain and sprockets.
These bikes are nice for city riding. This is the reality that we have to face. Those, who need more range should look into more expensive bikes like those by Zero or Lightning.
@@automotiveterritory Of course not but at the end of the day if you're in America better off just buying a bike here would be cheaper but if some these companies started making bikes over here I would definitely be into supporting them
Still way to expensive for a short distance electric snail. They need to cruise at 55mph with at least a 200 mile range. Also Ro-Bo voice sucks commode water.
When talking about technology we should always manage our expectations. Expecting a bike to go over 200 miles on a charge is, while still keeping it in the affordable price range is close to impossible. These are battery operated vehicles, just like our cell phones and laptops. If you get more range, you also get a heavier vehicle with a higher price.
If you're going 20 mph on an electric bike, why not just get one if those pedal bikes with an electric motor strapped on? Cheaper and more suited to the laws and environment of cities. What I think the sweet spot is for a real electric motorcycle is $8, 000.00 or less, simple fiberglass body with steel frame, and spend the rest of the budget on the best motor and batteries you can. Cost to produce should be like 2 k or less in materials. And labor costs shouldn't be much as it would simply be spraying out some fiberglass, or even using frn plastic in all reality, and assembling outside parts. There's a guy who made a Plywood electric bike that shows how cheaply and well these things can be done up.
There are electric motorcycles that don't lack neither in the speed, nor the range department but they are not affordable, so I didn't mention them here. As for the affordable options, they can make amazing city commuters and could be charged whenever you are not using them.

I don't take into consideration the 200miles electric motorcycles in this video, since their prices usually start at 20 grand. The intro is about those models that are at least remotely affordable below 10-12 grand and could be compared to gasoline bikes that average people get to ride
@@automotiveterritory I am trying to help you here. I am not trying to troll or being picky. Removing the text from your intro does not help either. You are still starting your video making a horrible false statement that puts down electric motorcycles. And your responses to me only give two options: either you do not grasp your massive error or you do not want to admit it. By finishing that sentence saying the majority of people are not willing to accept the outrageous price-tag (20 grands) for those motorcycles, you are saying that THOSE motorcycles do not have that range. That is... those 20 grands bikes do not have good range. That is very basic! But there are bikes now with better ranges than combustion bikes. That is not longer the problem. The problem is recharging those batteries. This is just a friendly advice. Starting your video with such massive error that puts down the industry is a turn off for people who knows even a little about this subject. Who is going to continue watching a video that lies about a major advance in a thriving new industry?
I think the range and speed are still 20 to 50% less than they need to be for American riders, as our distances traveled and speed we travel require 80mph for highways and 55mph townish style driving.
True. Affordable electric models will be there soon. For now I recommend you watching a video about impressive electric superbikes. Dont mind the prices, though ;) ruclips.net/video/REn6rczPT2I/видео.html Here is a link
I mean if riding around on an over priced per performance electric bike is what you want. A used Kawasaki Ninja 300 would be cheaper and out perform this bike in ever category.
@@automotiveterritory I beg to differ, days motors still run hot and continuously need cooling. This is big waste of energy gone into heat. There is a lot of confusion about motors being up to 98% efficient, this is so wrong
Pricing is better however some lacked the power and speed, 20mph is not impressive, those are electric scooter speeds. Bikes like the ones we just saw should do a minimum of 55mph you know what it don't matter I'll modify mine to reach those speeds.
I'll pass on Ching Chang and Chung.......... have to wait till the Japanese put realistic electric bikes on the market even then give it five years of Guinea pigging before consideration
In this case, you won't have to wait for long. Yamaha have already started applying for patents in this field. So their electric motorcycle is only a matter of time.
the conversion kits for older small bikes are a good idea the people that need these live in places where the public transportation is poor and so are they...50 mph and range of 40 miles and charge times with short charge times to get it charged if you live some where they have rolling black outs
It seems to me that ev should be able to produce speeds in excess of 100mph. I also think that they are too small. They need one designed for larger people with longer battery life.
They are still expensive for the range they offer. At this rate I think we cannot adopt to EVs especially electric bikes. This will have tremendous impact on developing countries where the average income is only 1000$ per month
They are expensive for sure. The thing is that like all new technologies electric vehicles and bikes do cost more. Manufacturers are spending a lot of the research and development, so this is one of the factors that is driving the price up.

Electricity is the future, and the future is now. Thanks for the vid.
You are very welcome! Have any of these bikes got on your shopping list?
I'm not thinking of buying right now, however when I will it will definitely be something electric. Cheers
Best of luck with the purchase!
The "future" as forced upon everybody else by the "elite" and their government lap dogs. Do you think that all these wastes of oxygen will get rid of all their supercars like McLarens and Ferraris, etc, for plug in you cars? Even Teslas are too expensive for most of the public to buy.
I am interested in purchasing the Super Soco TC Max. I am in NY City. How do I proceed to obtain the bike? Is it available with spoked wheels instead of alloy?
There is a list of official websites in the description. Information about local availability could be obtained there.
This really helped me out! The gigabyke grooves go 20 mph and have a 25mile range. When the battery runs low you can pedal also. They cost about 1,500. That fly free smart and the zero fx are the two that I really want. Thank goodness there are so many options.

I can use one of these to drive to the weed shop everyday 🤣
Not bad. Just make sure to come back home before consuming anything ;)

It's done to make this bike fit with certain regulations. As for being able to continuously cycle at 20mph speed, great job!

Why does the slicker look a lot like the grom ?
It was either inspired by Grom or was purposefully made to look like this in order to lure some of the grom crowd away.
$42,000. I am not kidding. That is the cost of replacement batteries for a zero electric motorcycle. There are seven batteries, each battery is $6000 in a zero. Don’t believe me, do the research before you even consider buying one, then come back here and give me the thumbs up I deserve for warning you.....
Can you please share the sources? New latest generation bike could be bought for $15k new.
Automotive Territory: Trending News & Car Reviews
My resources are first-hand testimony from a disillusioned zero owner.. he owns a business/ body shop/ collision shop.. he repairs wrecked cars for customers, or he buys totaled cars and fixes them and sells them himself.
The starting price was $26,500
I’m not even slightly interested in teslas anymore either. I kept my 1986 Yamaha venture royale for 18 years, 138,000 trouble free miles.I still on my 1974 Yamaha RD 250 club racer Box Stock roadracing machine that I won six championships on/2 time national champion on.(AMA--W.E.R.A.)
I have a Gibson electric guitar that I have owned since 1966..
My point is, I take care of my stuff, I keep things a long time if I like it..I just can’t see that ever happening with an electric motorcycle when the batteries cost almost twice as much as the vehicle did new.
interesting! I like it, and I live in the north east U.S.!
Glad you liked the video! Hope many of these bikes will be sold close to you soon

Love it. Can't meet my needs(yet) but I'm still watching. Battery technology is growing by leaps and bounds. I don't think it will be all that long before an adaquet battery will come along. Meanwhile I'll just have to live with my stinky noisy gasoline bike.
Would you rather have a battery that lasts longer or one that charges faster?
@@automotiveterritory I'd have to go with run time. If the battery pack is removable you could run one while the others recharge. (My phone has a removable battery and I carry several charged batteries all the time.)
An average phone lasts for less than a day. Do you imagine how large the battery pack of a motorcycle is? It don't see a scenario when it can be removable. Unless there will be several battery modules that could be extracted and be taken for charging.

Do you really need dual discs up front for 20mph top speed?
Good point. Should have saved up on the discs and installed a bigger battery ;)
My idea of commuting and your idea of commuting are 2 different things I need a range of minimum 80 miles at 60 mph for it to be of any practicality to me I might had well stick with gas power, cant stop half way to work and wait 30 minutes to get half a charge assuming I find a power source.....
These are intended for city commuting. How often do you hit 60mph within the urban area?
I need a mx one. These golf courses have been screaming my name. I can hit them at night and no one hear me.

Most inexpensive e motorcycles don't go fast
enough to travel on highways anyway.
Bicycles are limited to 500W of power, otherwise you'd need to get it registered.

how can they make such an awesome invention as a electric motorcycle but they can't figure out that the guy narrating this video can't speak understandable, clear English
I see that you tried to post a rhetorical question. But who is it addressed to?
If the EMflux does what is claimed and is built well it is THE breakthrough electric bike as far as I am concerned. For that price it is almost too good to be true compared to the others. So let's see. Will it loose half it's power and range for the basic version?
It's hard to tell at the moment. As of right now, it looks very promising. But we could only see the full picture once it fully hits the market.
Emlux had said that they'll produce only limited bikes
When I saw the specs for the DayMak EM2 I thought that must be a misprint. 20mph top speed and a range of 37 miles, neither of which would encourage sales. At least it tries to look the part.
It's not a misprint. Such specifications were introduced for a reason.
@@automotiveterritory And that reason would be ?
Very short city commute. Though, I dont blame people who find these specs ridiculous. They are
Wake me up when the standard swappable battery motorcycles arrive 😴🛌
The industry is not there yet but it is evolving fast. Hopefully that soon we will get more options, better performance and competitive prices.
Range: 100km. Top speed: 80km/h. Those parameters would make the ideal electric motorcycle to me
How much do you think a machine with such specifications should go for?
These are beautiful motorcycles, yet for gas engine have less torque then range how can we take the access torque of electric motor into range.
Electric motors do offer lots of torque right away but the range only depends on the size of the battery. Large batteries make such bikes too expensive or too heavy.
@@automotiveterritory do any of the motorcycles use a planetary gearing or only direct drive.
In most cases they are direct drive bikes.
How would you change from torque into velocity to increase range.
And I may be wrong about the GSXR weight. It may be lighter than 600 lbs. But batteries aren't usually light weight.
I like the looks of the Super Soco.

3 to 5 k is a good price range for 50 miles, 50 mph top speed for city commuters. Some bikes shown do meet my needs and look interesting 😉
These bikes are nice for city riding. This is the reality that we have to face. Those, who need more range should look into more expensive bikes like those by Zero or Lightning.
Dymak Rouge seems like a good buy.
For short city commuters probably.
With shipping these are gonna be way more
Destination fees are never included in the price of the vehicle, are they?
@@automotiveterritory Of course not but at the end of the day if you're in America better off just buying a bike here would be cheaper but if some these companies started making bikes over here I would definitely be into supporting them
Sure. If you are in America you have access to some of the most advanced electric motorcycles.
There are electric motorcycles that will do what you’re asking for, but they’re not budget models. (Look at the top end Zero bikes, for example.)
With the given specs, these bikes only fall into my range of "curious" not quite "interest" yet.
How about bikes by Zero Motorcycles and Lightning?
The lack of range and speed on most electric bikes soI don't see them gaining wide success. Not to mention no one wants to wait an hour to charge up.
There are electric motorcycles that don't lack neither in the speed, nor the range department but they are not affordable, so I didn't mention them here. As for the affordable options, they can make amazing city commuters and could be charged whenever you are not using them.

Yes, there are bikes that go as far as 200 miles. They couldn't be featured in a video about the cheapest models though.
@@automotiveterritory Just listen to the very first sentence on your video, you are referring to all electric motorcycles in general as having low mileage range. You are saying some people are willing tu put up with the low mileage range but not the high prices. It is in the very first sentence...
@@automotiveterritory It is even at te beginning of your description: ¨If many riders are already willing to put up with the limited range of electric motorcycles, the majority still can’t accept the outrageous price tags that some of the not so impressive models carry. ¨

Cheap is great, but the range sucks. Evs need to surpass gas/petrol.
Why? I personally think that there are people, who are after low running costs.

These electric motors are getting pretty close to 100% efficiency. We just need bigger, lighter and cheaper batteries :)

When the zero fx gets down to $6000 or less they’ll become more common place. Then you’ll find used ones down to $4000. More people try them out then everyone will change their minds about electric motorcycles. I hope anyway.
What do you think that change a person's mind about electric motorcycles and prompt to sell right away?
Automotive Territory: Trending News & Car Reviews Need more comparison head to head with standard bikes close in weight and size. Then compare performance and maintenance cost over 5 to 10 years. Show what you get for spending more money for the electric bikes. It will just take time for the gear heads that want to modify their own bikes.
