Top 9 Affordable Electric Motorcycles to Give You a Taste of Zero Emission Commuting

- If you look closely at the changes in the transportation industry, it's hard not to notice that electric vehicle segment is on the rise. Successful investments in battery technology, smarter control units and electric motors by both EV startups and manufacturers with long history of auto and motorcycle-making allowed them to produce models that are faster, more efficient in terms of recharging times and could go longer on a single charge.
There is a lot of interest towards battery-powered transport from the consumers, who want to try this emerging technology. But if you think that they only want to drive electric cars, you wouldn't be necessarily right. While most cars and SUVs are still some time away from being affordable, it's motorcycles, scooters and bicycles that tend to attract most attention.
Bikes and scooters are already great means for city commuting: they are light and are definitely cheaper and more agile than large vehicles. By adding an e-motor with a powerful battery manufacturers are making bikes that are already great commuters even better. As a result, people in India and Asian countries started switching to e-motorcycles and e-scooters more often, while consumers from Europe and North America are showing great interest in ebikes and all-electric motorbikes. In case you missed some of the latest trends in this field, feel free to catch up on the news here: • Electric motorcycles, ...
Everything seems great with this new technology, but just like any other modern invention, motorcycles with batteries are still considered expensive, if we compare them to regular models. However, their production numbers are increasing all the time, new competitors arise, and the economy of scale kicks in, resulting in the decreasing prices with each upcoming model year.
Here we would like to review basic information about motorcycles that are currently on sale with the lowest prices, as we would like to see if these cheap models are worth the investment for the specifications that are offering and if they could help us open a new zero emission chapter in the history of city commute. - Авто/Мото

7:11 this bike is a 125 right?
The only one that matters to me would be the first one...as a food courier I need over 120 miles, simply because I carry heavy loads and would expect that to last about 90 in real world use. Which is what I need daily. But EV bikes really need to hit 160+ because as time passes the batteries will deteriorate.
WHAT? The EM2 DAYMAK does only 20miles an hour?? 😳 that's a mistake yea?
The F77 is looking like a scam... Still no release.
It's is an Indian company though
Are the prices of these motorcycles low enough to be considered affordable? Share your thoughts below!
I would say they're affordable if you have the income to buy a second car.
These are not motorcycles but pretty e-bikes, you don't need a license or insurance hence the low speed. Ranges seem to be based on lead acid so hence the very low range.
I could put a more powerful hub motor and lithium ion batteries on one of mine and pass you on a highway, but then it wouldn't be an e-bike anymore. And if you disagree then tell the government and the police that.
As for worth it ? No license, insurance, almost zero maintenance and cheaper to charge than fill are good points, buts it's made to fill a niche market not replace the real electric or gas motorcycle.
Usually these comparison videos throw together a bunch of nice visuals, some overlaid text and not much else so just commenting to give props for the links, data and audience participation!
I hope at some point, new definitions of eMotorcycle , eScooter and eBike become standardized. An eMotorcycle that only goes up to 20 or 28 mph is NOT an eMotorcycle... no way, no how! These are eScooters that happen to "look" like pocket rockets. It is deceptive Chinese practices that are made to fool buyers into buying glitter. They should NOT be in this video or on this list b/c they are NOT eMotorcycles. (I am an eScooter and an eBike owner)
Absolutely right on that one
That's exactly what I want
Well, unfortunately, what you think isn't a motorcycle doesn't count. The definition of Motorcycle is simple:
a two-wheeled vehicle that is powered by a motor and has no pedals
These are all motorcycles. All scooters are motorcycles, but not all motorcycles are scooters. The definition of scooter is:
a light two-wheeled open motor vehicle on which the driver sits over an enclosed engine with legs together and feet resting on a floorboard.
So...when a motorcycle like those in the video doesn't have a floorboard, it is NOT a scooter. Being a scooter has nothing to do with the speed, horsepower or performance. It is strictly based on the design of the vehicle. That means that all of these are indeed motorcycles, and NONE of them are scooters.
The law doesn't care about the definition of scooter or motorcycle either, caring only about the displacement of the vehicle to determine if it requires a special license to ride it on the street. This is because all scooters are motorcycles.
China didn't invent English, so they are not responsible for the definition of motorcycle or scooter.
@@dr.bherrin you are right. With that being said the daymak em2 is classified as an e-bike because of the petals you could say it's closer to a moped but it is not a motorcycle it just looks like one
@@dr.bherrin I know this already. You're simply stating the rules that I'm hoping get changed by our government.
For me that F77 Ultraviolette ticks all the right boxes. Chances however are it will be twice as expensive when it ever hits American and European shores. That would however still make it pricebreaker when its capabilities are taken into account. If it is well made and dependable I WANT ONE!
@Fully Kitted: Airsoft If you are more the "off road" type I can understand that but it's range is very low. That makes it more of a city hopper in practice. It is from the most experienced brand though. Here in the Netherlands it is however a lot more expensive. Over 15.000 US$ including all taxes ! I'd hardly call that affordable! You can buy a gass bike with comparable performance and a longer range for about 1/3 of that! Only a few years back you'd be able to buy a Brammo Impulse for only a bit more. At the moment powerfull electric bikes actually seem to become ever more expensive here. Probably because they are marketed ass high luxury goods in the Tesla class. No wonder one does not see any electric motorcycles on the road yet. Posh people with Tesla's are however all around. They have become a real status symbol.
I liked your video for the comprehensive content and design, I SUBSCRIBED because of the accurate subtitles. Thank you! I can't always blast full volume and only use headphones, not earphones which are not always practical. Your subtitles helped greatly.
Glad it was helpful!
That was an amazing video. Keep the good work up. My favourite was the one from zero motorcycles
Glad you enjoyed it!
It good to have ultraviolet motor in your list from India
The Indian one looks great .
Otto Bike and F77 Ultraviolet look nice. Nice thing about the F77 you can take the batteries out and charge them in your office at work. Otto bike has better range and top speed.
Please wear all the right gear!! So many trainers and exposed ankles. These are still 'real' bikes and the tarmac is still hard!!
lmao 25mph. my 800 dollar chinese folding scooter can do 30. some of these full size R1 copycats are hilariously embarrassing to look like they do and end up at 25mph. I would even think that's ILLEGAL to be that slow hahahaha
@@twrcrew8852 ok mr valentino Rossi, these bikes arent meant to go fast, just cheap, commuter, neighborhood toy. My aprilia sr50 can only go like 50 mph never gone over 40 but still a fun experience
@@antolivdiaz You have a point. But this has nothing to do with being a "rossi". If a bike tops out at 25, that means uphill it's even worse, accelerating out of the way of bigger vehicles that can't see you is impossible. 80% of accidents on a motorcycle happen in low speed environments, not on the highway.
Like you just said, these are for riding in the suburb. You'd have to treat these like bicycles in that case, and I'm sorry but if you have a full size looking ass bike that can get smoked by a 47cc moped which you paid 3x the money for, that's just hilarious no matter HOW you slice it. Not to mention, if you're using the bicycle lane to stay as safe as you could possibly be on these things, I'll bet you that I could buy an actual motorcycle if I got a nickel for every time a cop tries to ticket you for mistaking your toy for a real sport bike riding in there.
@@antolivdiaz also considering how this youtuber advertised them, they blur the lines and imply "you can totally take this on the real streets in traffic". which would go back to being dangerous unless you were in Manhattan at lunch time.
@@twrcrew8852 I mean I have no problems with hills or other cars in my sr50, its a very slow bike and besides I wouldn't care who beats me, I just want a bike to have fun and commute around the neighborhood. Hello, it's an amazing model for sure.
The em2 does 70kph out of box if you remove the limitter. The motor is a 3000w motor inside. If you upgrade to lithium battery it will go 80kph top speed. You can always upgrade the motor hub to a 8kw motor and get 0-100kph in 4 seconds. Top speed of 120-140kph
Hello, thanks for your feedback. One question, where could the 8KW motors be sourced from or is there a company that offers such upgrades?
Datacube: awesome facts and interesting top lists look up “the inja” he did this exact mod on his bike which is the same model as The Daymak em2. But he put a 17” rear hub. The daymak comes with 16” the following link is the kit with 16”

They also sell up to 14kw-20kw motor hubs FYI top speed is usually 160kph-200kph and 0-100kph in 3 seconds. From same source

Well these bikes are getting better but one very important bit of info missing, charge time.
Ok for sure there are other bits of info missing but charge time is a very important bit of info I think.
If the bike can go 120 + mph and has a range of around 120 miles that's ok because chances are it will do around 80 miles and be flat and in need of recharging in the real world milage.
But if it then takes 8 hours to charge that's a problem, unless you only use it to commute well within its range.
Oh and still no one has solved the problem of charging these things when you don't have a charge point available to you ie if you live in a tower block or on a street where parking is prohibited.
But most of the bikes are looking better than they used to with better specs, they are going in the right direction at last.
Yes it eco mode adds 20 miles 140 like 100
In the title is says affordable but only mentioned price on two
It not "Zero Emission" transport !! . . . its "Displaced" emission transport . . . The power for charging is often generated by polluting sources . . .
The manufacturing of these vehicles also creates considerable pollution and environmental damage - the materials for batteries - Cobalt for example - have to come from somewhere . . .
I THINK THE BEST ALL ROUNDER IS F 77 FROM INDIA . PRACTICAL,SMART, MOST AFFORDABLE NAD IT HAS GOT THE RANGE AND SPEED

Is it still zero emissions if you burn the tread off your tires?
Hello, thanks for the comment. In such case, we doubt it is...
Good one! :-) Nothing is truly zero emmision anyway. The energy that is needed to make such vehicles and charge them will still not come from sustainable technology. It is however claimed that riding fully electric will lead to an about 1/3 overall emmision reduction. Which is a good start. :-)

Hello, as far as we remember, those are included too.
I currently ride a Honda Rebel 500, but REALLY WANT an electric bike too. The Motto top bike wasn't too bad on range and price with a reasonable top speed as I'm not a racer at 64 years old. Then the Zero hours along and is comparable with the Motto but I know their range goes up in price giving big 200 miles range and that stupid £22,000 price tag. All bikers would consider electric if the range was 200 miles and it only cost under a fiver to fill the tank/battery. With the dramatic price drop in battery over the last five years in the car world I REALLY cannot see why those big 20,000 price tag are still with us, come on the likes of Zero drop the price to the cost of my Honda Rebel and I would buy one tomorrow......please....
Hello, thanks for your feedback. The Zero lineup is getting better year after year. Hopefully they continue in the same fashion.
Buy Honda. Gullwing

Thanks for your feedback
the first bike is the price, that any electric bike should cost, that has not more HP or KW output then a 400cc bike.. i mean i saw other vid about a startups bike that does go up to 120mph but costs $24K cos it has a 10KWH battery wich is expensive.. the battery needs to get way more cheaper..
11:26 - The Ultraviolette F77 is still a concept at this point. It is not available to purchase. The design and features all look great so I hope the company is successful. However, I HIGHLY doubt they can bring it to market for $4000 USD! I'll buy one if they do but I highly doubt they can.
Hello, thanks for your feedback. This bike does look promising, especially with pricing like this.
Will be available in a couple of month's for the same price. The release was delayed by a year due to the pandemic.
The price mentioned is for indian market, so basically the prices will go up once exported from india.
Are there any electric cafe racers with ABS?
That come motir cycles. Sciters
Daymak is blatantly going to be bought to be Lithium upgraded, and motor uprated.
The less than superficial insight on each bike made this review worthless. These bikes are never able to achieve their stated ranges under normal driving conditions. Additional issues include suspension, braking etc. shortfalls. There is one exception , I’ve test driven several Zeros and they are the real deal, i highly recommend taking advantage of a demo day and if range isn’t an issue get one they are badass! I ride and if you’re planning much highway riding you better stick to combustion if you’re planning longer than a 60-90 min ride. If/when they get to 250 miles of range I’m in! I would be very skeptical about all the others, especially because of the lack of credible warranty support. Ever try to complain to China about crap you’ve bought from there:)

HA! 20mph on a motor bike is quite depressing. I have electric Kickstart scooters that go minimally 45mph. I'll be getting an EVOKE or HORWIN for sure.
Hello, thanks for your feedback. What kind of scooters are those (the ones you mentioned)?
Way too many ads in this video
These bikes are clearly designed for commuters! Anything less than a 100 mile range is a waste of time in Western Canada. 20 mile/hr top speed?? Why wouldn't i convert, or even just buy an ebike? Most are good to at least 30 mph, some even more. I can pedal consistently at 18 mph, and up to 30 mph downhill. I love the idea of an electric motorcycle and EV's in general, but we've got a long way to go on both fronts! Better range, quicker charge times, and cheaper initial cost are just a few hurdles. Imo
A transmission on an electric bike? What nonsense is this?
Electric motors have a speed of operation that is optimal for power savings and a lot of torque but that may not be as fast as you want, or high speed but not a lot of torque so transitions come in just like with gas engines to transform that power into more useful power where and when you need it. :)

Honestly none of these look like a real replacement for a petrol-engined bike. If I'm spending the kind of money I'd pay for a motorcycle I want an actual motorcycle for the money, not a child's toy.
Hello, these are the models from the cheaper side of the price spectrum. Have you checked out any of the models by Zero Motorcycles?
@@Datacube Yeah, the cheapest Zero is £17490, and is roughly equivalent to a CBR650R at £7729. Both Zeros top out at 125MPH, which honestly I can manage on a CB500 from the mid-90s, current price range in the mid £3-4K range. Like I say, not a viable replacement as yet for those of us who have bikes as workhorses & day to day commuters. With a £10K price differential I could have 2 motorbikes for the same money.

Some of these where cheap granted, but as soon as they hit the UK market the price rockets to 750cc prices and above without delivering the performance. The Zeros UK price is just rediculous, Over15k for a base model. They are either brain dead or really terrible con artists.
