    You asked about safe trapping with dogs in the area? I actually used your videos to do that this spring. I used a Michigan legal cable restraint which includes break away and deer stop, to make my drowner set. I used your snare mounting system and installed the drowning rod right next to the snare support stick, then made the snare fasten end as short as possible to the slider. It was installed on a very used crossover from a pond to a dammed up drainage ditch. The snare was more than “half in”. If a dog managed to get in that, which I doubt, then it would be a foot catch and the deer stop would set him free. Blammo, first night!

  • @timzeafla7678

    Nice job! That would be a good spot to put one of those float/castor sets out in the river. That way there’s no risk for catching any pets.

    I watch a trapper's youtube channel from Idaho and he actually posts signs along roads warning dog owners of traps set in the general area. That normally keeps dog walkers away from his traps. When he removes the traps, the sign are removed too.

    • @Northwoods208
      @Northwoods208 3 года назад

      Idfg has those signs available to us to print off, but it's up to our discretion to use them or not, personally if I'm in an area where I'm worried about it, I just set elsewhere

    Great underwater footage. I have a spot almost exactly like the one where you caught the beaver, crystal clear water, bank den with fresh gravel pushed up. I can only use 330's fully submerged 10 feet from the den. Water is fairly deep, 3-4 feet, it looks like they come into from multiple directions since there is minimal debris in the water in front of it. Is it possible to put a couple large sticks/branches to guide them to enter in one spot 10 feet out or should I not set there? Thanks

    That was really great!! The underwater footage gave a whole new look to this. I really appreciate that. And you are totally right about NOT setting traps where someone or their dog might get in it. (if it's there, you KNOW some idiot will find it) And the sport does not need any negative publicity from upset people!! Thanks for your consideration and advice.

    We used to fish a stream for trout at my buddy's golf course. I would often see chewed sticks from beaver. We fished that thing a mile up and a mile down from those sticks and never saw feed piles. We fished it in winter, spring, summer, and fall. What am I missing?
