Beavers are really incredible animals. They transform landscapes into wetland ecosystems, creating habitat for other species including fish, mammals, waterfowl, songbirds, amphibians, and insects. And help to protect from droughts, improve water quality, and minimize flood risk and mitigate flooding peaks.
They're great!
co-evolved with fish to provide bypass routes to get upstream: ruclips.net/video/pxikLa1KSYc/видео.html
One exception is in Chile (where beavers have no natural predators) but it was humans fault (again)
And as an added bonus, if and when the beavers move out and the dam deteriorates, the dried up pond bed will be covered with rich silt that has settled out of the water, a perfect spot for a new meadow to grow.
Yeah, when they reintroduced to a bunch of places where they'd been extirpated, the whole ecosystem flourished.
Same thing when they reintroduced wolves to Yosemite - they thought the wolves would kill everything. Instead, they weeded out weak deer, prevented herds from growing too large and starving themselves to death, and the culling of those herds meant saplings weren't getting decimated, increasing forest cover, and reinforced riverbanks making for healthier flows. There were increased birds, increased small mammals, which increased birds of prey, more seeds got distributed.
Everyone thought that these were destructive animals, but turns out they have a purpose, like the beaver.
Beaver: "Give me rent."
Muskrat: "You'll get your rent when you fix this DAMN DAM."

Even the burrows they build submerged in water yet they have warm bedding. genius... I don't think humans can build such a thing with only naturally available mud and twigs.
fact: beavers do a full years internship at their parents dam before heading out on their own at age 2.
@@marthachampagne316 Is it paid?
the fact that they can build dams with nearly perfect thickness and height, store food below the water for winter, and even charge rent to other species by way of fresh bedding and even disposing old bedding, makes beavers unnaturally skilled animals, its already well established that animals are smart, but few animals are capable of engineering in a large scale, preservation of specific food, and the economics of winter seasons, that kind of skill beats even some working class humans today.
(you wonder why i included preservation of food? because beavers know to preserve green wood instead of dried wood, dried wood will rot in the winter if submerged for long periods, whereas green wood remains soft and supple during this time, this also prevents parasites from leeching into the wood and allows the beavers to access their storage even in the harshest of winters.)
And a lot of 'humans' who don't want to work - long after Covid-19 is over!
Your point was kind of obvious but I gave you a 'like' for your wording.
Actually wood decay needs fungi , fungi needs oxygen . Any wood if kept submerged will not rot

Wait so a beaver lives in a house made out of food?
Not quite. The tougher, bark-laden wood isn't good for them to eat, and the wood that's got moss and mold on it from years of soaking is as gross to them as months-old food would be to us. What they really want is the tender wood several layers down, freshly cut and still wet with sap and sugars.

I don't know if it's good or bad that after the video, I read all the comments in David Attenborough's voice... Very soothing indeed
I read your comment in his voice

" Infrared lights are no longer welcome it seems" lol
You know.... May sound weird! But ever since I was a wee lad!!! I absolutely loved, going down to a creek/river with friends, and building dams, and redirecting water, something about the sound of water, the feeling of mud/sticks on your hands, getting dirty, being outside all day, I absolutely loved it, and totally miss it.
Being in a creek looking for rocks, agates, making mud structures building islands you name it! I'm turning 28, and I still do this!
@Michelle Graham possibly!

THis guy is a GREAT NARRATOR, no matter what the subject, you just want to listen to him talk and explain. I wish he could teach Narrator lessons to young people.
What an ingenious way of getting to stay in another animal's home: paying rent.
Unbelievable.

What a great man! We are so fortunate to have him imparting his vast, first hand knowledge with us! And in extremely gentle tone of voice, and an equally gentle humour too...
He most likely has a script that he follows, but his voice is perfect!
Suddenly I have grew love for beavers

It's just fascinating to see how they create this unique environment and cozy home for themselves
