    I have to admit, I'm a bit disappointed by this episode. There was a lack of detailed knowledge on the Akyazi and her sister ships (Arbiter and Akula). Then again, this is my favorite fan ship of all time, from my favorite set of tech manuals of all time (Ships of the Star Fleet, Vol. 1 & 2 by Todd Allen Guenther), so my expectations were rather high. Also, Capt Foley did mentioned there wasn't a lot of time for research for this episode. If you guys ever revisit this, I'd be happy to help. I know these ships in and out.

    I remember buying the Starfleet Technical Manual of this ship back in the early 90s, as Barns and Nobles. So it has been awhile on the convention book circles. The bottom of the drop down pylons was a Bia deflector pod. There was also a Phaser mount on the pod too. The drop down pylon also had a deflector dissipation veins? Not sure what that means. Now the Variant was named the USS Akula. (Not the Akula-class from Starfleet Command). There are fantastic blue prints for this ship and variants at www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/gilso.php.

    The deflector cutout seems oddly deep to me, to the point that it’s like a huge waste of internal volume in a saucer that already limited by the back half being removed. A tiny NX style cutout would make more sense, just enough to keep the deflector within the outer circumference of the saucer. But I suppose you could come up with a functional reason, pieces in the cutout focusing the deflector field or some such. But no other design, except maybe the Nova, has found it necessary to adopt such a wasteful design.

    This could be the Starship equivalent of current-day frigate warships give these a couple of weapons have a lot of them where they could be a part of a large battle group where if you want to you can have them screen the perimeter of the battle group or send them out on scout missions.
    By themselves they would be no match for a heavy unit but a few of them might make a major Klingon or romulan warship think twice about pulling something

      Maybe they figured they could swap the name of one deity for another (Hermes to Apollo), as the Apollo in Legacy is a single nacelle design just as the Hermes/Saladin (if I am recalling correctly). And then they're left with two names that start with AK and they assigned it to the Akyazi

      I did not know that. It's a shame that they couldn't put more effort (i say that cautiously, because i certainly don't know what it takes to make a game).
      The way you describe it makes it sound like it was to make a quick buck, and it may very well have been.
      It is a buggy game, even on XBOX 360, but my real gripe with it is that there aren't enough ships or missions. The TNG years could have been much larger

    It's a very interesting ship, but I've never liked the idea of the sloping curved nacelle pylons.
    I know they are probably more efficient than sharp degree turns, but they just always look 'off' for some reason to me.

    • @Blade_Runner_79
      @Blade_Runner_79 5 лет назад

      The 90-degree turn on the Galaxy class doesn't make sense either, I would love to see it with pylons that goes straight out which is the most efficient design, what possibly could be the reason for sending more plasma horizontally and then curving it vertically? And I think it would help the controversial looks of the ship frankly.

  • @balrighty3523

    13:26 Nope, no shuttlebays. All of the variants do have a pair of bays holding one worker bee each (for EVA repairs), but most Akyazis didn't even have a shuttle. Some did (the style we see in TMP that conveyed Spock to the Enterprise, minus the warp sled), and they were just externally docked between the two pylons leading to the engineering pod.
    But only on the Akyazi (the original version) and the Akula (the variant with the drop-down deflector pod). The Arbiter variant had a "stealth suite" (not quite a cloaking device) in between its pylons, which would get in the way. Shuttles would still be able to dock in the back of the bridge (like in TMP) or on the sides of the saucer, but they wouldn't be able to stay there in normal flight.

    I had the book about this ship there's a couple of things you had wrong. All of them have the 1000 registration number with U.S.S Akyazi NCC 1000. 1 that isn't armor on in the naracells, has something to do with emergency cooling, theyre 4versions of those. 2. It has three variants, with five different Bridge models, and crew complement ranging from 77 to 89. Some have only 3 torpedo tubes to forward and two rear lost home have four to forward and two rear, they do not have a shuttle Bay they do have to underbelly worker bee storage rooms, I feel like I'm having a single shuttle pod between engineering and the main saucer half, 3. The version with the bow is not the Akyazi, but it's it's Akula subclass NCC 1090 and Atami subclass NCC 1095. The end of the "bow" holds a long-range tactical sensor suite with a type 7 phaser emitter on both sides, the rest of the ship has Type 6 phasers. Out of The 128 vessels built only 5 was lost, 1 went missing (Starfleet mystery). Most were stationed at the Romulan and Klingon neutral zone border. The warp core is miniaturised and laying down like in the NX-01. Since this came out before the Enterprise TV show they took a lot of NX-01 designs from this ship. The timeline for this ship, as you can see in the registration number, it was before Captain Christopher Pike and the Enterprise. yeah I noticed the problem with the maximum speed in battle maximum, apparently the Atami what's the fastest reaching battle maximum speed of warp 22. Clearly not well thought-out, since anywhere pass warp 10 is transwarp. well I noticed interesting about the layout on decks 3 and 4 there's roles of crew quarters (2Personnel to each quarter) and a shared bathroom between each to crew quarters. And at the very end of each crew quarter block, is a larger privacy room, which looks like it has a king size bed (only), dec.2 were commanding officers quarters, they have their own bathroom. there's also one insta layout about the bridge, I only seen this with the layout of Enterprise D owners manual, walk towards the view screen and go out the door on your right make another right in walk down the narrow hall, to get to the bridge restroom.

    Someone probably pointed this out already, but for your full review I would recommend: www.amazon.com/Ships-Star-Fleet-Akyazi-Class-Perimeter/dp/0965601617.
    It has the full technical data on the ship (I'm not sure whether this is the publication that first introduced the design, but it's where I first saw it). Some interesting points from the book:
    - Due to its role as a patrol/fast attack vessel, the ship's hull is actually supposed to be made of special "stealth" composites which make it black rather than the white we are used to seeing from this era (although I personally prefer the white hulls that you showed in the pictures). Also, the ship is not supposed to have external viewports (except for a small viewing lounge on the back of the ship).
    - The vessel was inspired partially by the Orion attack ship from “Journey to Babel”. Like that ship, it was designed to use up almost all of its energy in a short burst, so it can achieve very high speeds and combat much larger vessels, but then it will probably need to be towed back to a starbase for repairs.
    - The bridge module can jettison and function as an emergency escape pod. Also, the two booms connecting the primary hull to the engineering section at the back can be cut with explosive bolts as a form of “saucer separation”; there are emergency impulse engines behind panels on the back of the primary hull for that purpose too. The two horizontal tubolifts which connect the primary hull to the engineering section would serve as lifeboats in that case.
    - The variant with the pylons below the hull is the "Akula" sub-class. The pylons support a deflector pod, which helps absorb incoming weapons fire and dissipate the energy far from the body of the ship.
    - Although there are no shuttlebays, a single shuttle can be carried on the outside, docked to a port in between the two booms (similar to how Spock’s shuttle docked in back of the bridge in The Motion Picture).

    The PA class ships were designed in mind like the old PT Boats, hunter killer submarine, and the ablity to use air to air combat tactics to defeat the enemy. Smaller shp, highi power and the ability to dish out punishment, means less comfort and less room for bars and such. Just a fighting ship like the old Destroyers of wWII. so yes it looks odd, but then in combat do you actually need a wet bar?

    • @Blade_Runner_79
      @Blade_Runner_79 5 лет назад

      The movie era ships specifically, the TNG have way too much animated parts that make them look a bit cartoonish. That's what made the motion picture era ships looks so much better was the absence of the glowing swirly psychedelic stuff on the original ship that made it look so dated. The Enterprise from the motion picture actually looks like a real ship , a real space-faring machine built by humans that could travel and looks powerful.
      And then TNG had to go back and add animation that bled over onto the ships' hull and distracted from the design in my opinion.

      I would appreciate a full episode. Comes from a publication of ships of the starfleet. As you can probably tell if you notice that my only comments on your channel were asking for you to do this ship, I greatly appreciate it. Big fan of this channel and this ship. Please read the technical manual for this class and the variants. Mention the "cameo" in JJ Star Trek 3. Yes, there are several reimaginings rendering the ship with different iterations. I think the McCook is pretty faithful, hopefully you can get in touch with that modeler. The main stinger is a weapon, the small stingers under the warp nacelles are the answer to deflector, its supposed to be torpedo launchers in the cutout and yes, there are workbees but no shuttle bay, it is designed to have a shuttle pod (ala the warp sled shuttle) docked externally so it is in the warp bubble and protected by the struts (pontoons as you called them) to be semi perminent I imagined. Lets see a full episode.

    Did you guys read the cutaway/orthographic legend and descriptions? The plates along the nacelles are "warp field reflectors", this has a cloaking device, there's a thing in the middle called a "defensive system generator" that I don't think refers to a normal shield system, and the front and back halves of this ship are connected with explosive bolts! There seems to be lot about this design you guys didn't touch!

      Yes the commander called out the warp Shield reflectors. At first glance to me they looked like shutters too quickly release more plasma or they can be closed to conceal the warp signature. But it definitely was mentioned, but not necessarily their purpose since it is not a canon ship.

    The things at the bottom were phaser banks I believe.

    In space the Profile of a ship has no effect on the speed!! YOU guys should know that.
