    Now THIS is a Klingon ship! We should have seen these in Discovery.

    You see this is where STD goes wrong. ENT, for all its faults, still respected the canon. It took existing designs and tried to visualise how they looked 100 years prior to the star dates shown on screen. STD had the chance to build on that, show us what a TOS-era Bird of Prey looks like, instead they give us the death glider from Stargate. Anyone can come up with a generic star destroyer shape but the real talent is in designs like this, were, even though I'm not a fan, show a clear design evolution to what we know and love.

      Chief Jericho Legally they have to change the designs like the JJverse.

      No Nicholas, they don't. Neither company needs to. They are creative decisions, not licensing requirements.

      Nicholas Dickens They didn't need to change them as much as they did. Chief Jericho isn't saying they should have used the ENT or TMP era design, he's saying they should have come up with a new TOS era design which bridges the gaps between them. That is something the STD designers could have legally done; Create a new design, but incorporate enough elements from the others to indicate they are related. We know they could do this because we see it with the Enterprise. She's obviously 25% different, as the designers have admitted, but she clearly looks enough like the Enterprise to be instantly recognizable. The Death Glider design on the other hand is not instantly recognizable as a Bird-of-Prey and looks completely out of place.

    I really love this ship. I wish it was more Klingon green than Romulan green, but it's still one of my favorite Klingon ships. It's competing with the Raptor to be my absolute favorite. Love those MiG intakes.

      The slight problem with the NX-era BOP is that it's so similar in scale to it's contemparies.
      But otherwise I accept it for what it is. I like all the 22nd Century Klingon Fleet.
      Perhaps if we had had the Romulan War Arc there would be a wider choice of Romulan and Starfleet ships too.

      Don Odyn I don't remember seeing it, and I have looked at the Klingon fleets and some detail just for my own entertainment and this little guy got under my radar too.
      Must have had the cloaking device on!
      Hope to see more of these gems show up, it's kind of like Star Trek archaeology, the ship is on screen for 2 seconds, sits on a hard drive for 10 years and then trekyards digs it up, dusts it off and shows it off to the fans! And it's Canon! Lost bits of History, getting their recognition finally.
      And now I, and many others, now no it is a Canon part of Klingon and Star Trek history! Thank you Captain and Commander!

    Main thing is the much smaller engines, makes you think it might be a slower/shorter range ship than the Bird of Prey or possibly an alternate manufacturers solution to the same design requirement, i.e. a prototype of a rival design which had a limited production run.

    • @Jack_Stafford
      @Jack_Stafford 6 лет назад +1

      Watcher Zero agreed, rather than being fighter size I think with that scale shown if it's more in a light bomber / troop carriers / Patrol scale like the slightly larger bird of prey in Star Trek 3 was. It makes sense they would have slightly different configurations like we have both destroyers and cruisers, that can cover an overlap a lot of the same duties.

  • @WaybackTECH
    @WaybackTECH 6 лет назад +1

    I think at this point in Klingon and Romulan history of ship designs that they both used the same ship builder. I know it has been said Romulans were using Klingon designs in TOS but Star Fleet doesn't really know much of anything about the Klingons and Romulans at this point so I think the similar looks of the 2 can be because they are bought from the same builder, possibly a Ferengi connection too of some sort. Star Fleet intelligence can get things wrong too. I mean it makes sense given the history of Klingon and Romulan collusion. Klingons never struck me as having the temperament to build star ships.

  • @jankjason

    Off topic but not really.. Maybe ENT ISN'T primeline because of the discovery of the Borg in arctic/antarctic ?

    • @PixelatedH2O
      @PixelatedH2O 6 лет назад

      There's a major problem with that idea if I'm understanding correctly. Voyager also takes place in the same timeline.

    • @Jack_Stafford
      @Jack_Stafford 6 лет назад +2

      I think it's generally agreed that they both are prime, but things like scientific and governmental secrecy or just the passage of time have changed some aspects of the story like our first encounter with the Borg. There also is section 31 changing things, and ironically it was a Star Trek episode starring red Forman or his real name kurtwood Smith trying to alter Reality by changing things one at a time and finding out how that ripples through space and often does it give the results he was hoping for. So since the show's generally refer to each other and keep most things close to Prime and Cannon, I mean considering first Contact that had a change on history as well but they're all in one big happy River of continuity Prime Cannon. Then there's a white rapids stream on the other side of the mountain that doesn't fit anywhere in Cannon and that's where the JJ verse and Discovery lives. I mean how many times did Kirk say he was born in Iowa, yet in the movie he's born in unescapable shuttle. How many times were we told the Enterprise was built in orbit at San Francisco, yet we see it on the ground in bumfuk Iowa. So those things have to live as a completely separate alternate reality, rather than slight alterations to the real prime time line that everything else belongs to.

      No, it was a Klingon design first :) the Romulans had warbirds, although the TOS version is sometimes called a Bird of Prey because of its bird under pattern.

    Non canon, enterprise depicted Klingons in contact with humanity despite it being too early for them to be contacted according to previously established canon. This ship along with all others in the enterprise-discovery universe is pure conjecture and speculation.

    • @Jack_Stafford
      @Jack_Stafford 6 лет назад +2

      Genuine_Intrepid I thought they did a good job of having fit into Canon, and explaining in a believable way why the Klingons look different in the movies than they did the TV show. I think Enterprise did more to fix Canon that it ever did in hurting it. And at least for those that just like it they can say that it had the shortest run at only four years, probably to be beaten to the race to the bottom when Discovery is finally cancelled. So there's not that many episodes of it and it does cover some interesting stuff and introduces things that allows the other things to actually exist through temporal cold Wars and augment viruses. So I'm cool with it.

    • @Intrepidthegenuine
      @Intrepidthegenuine 6 лет назад

      My point is that the difference in the Klingon appearance didn't need some convoluted explanation because they shouldn’t have been in contact with humanity in the time period that enterprise took place in. And even if I did accept the apologetic argument about the augment virus, then it still begs the question of why change them again in discovery? It seems to me that it is change for change sake.
      And I find the idea that enterprise did more to fix canon to be completely ludicrous, there was no enterprise prior to the constitution class except for the ringship in established canon. Established canon didn’t need fixing until that show came along and screwed everything up, discovery is just making it worse.

    Is that a photon torpedo launcher or enhanced forward combat deflector?

    • @trekboy02
      @trekboy02 6 лет назад

      I takes cues from the Vor'cha class. The green glowing part at the front is a weapon and the red window looking thing above it is the deflector. Just like on the Vor'cha. The person that designed this did their homework.

    • @Jack_Stafford
      @Jack_Stafford 6 лет назад

      Jon Bonda I think it's very clearly a weapon either a small torpedo launcher or a plasma weapon, the requirement of navigational deflectors never really was a thing until long after ships like the Reliant and the D7 were designed, those clearly are weapons ports regardless of what it is Diner said off hand after the fact, we've seen on screen them firing weapons from these ports and seen many ships without deflector dishes so it is not a requirement. People don't like to hear that what a designer says isn't can it, because I feel like he invented it. But what shows up on screens, novels, comic books is what is actually the definition of Canon. So I think it's very clear that the Klingons being a warlike race would have a weapon and placement there with no need for this relatively new idea that every single ship has to have an air deflector. It's as much bunk as the paired warp engines Theory. We've seen on screen exceptions to that rule, so therefore it's not a rule. And All Ships do not need a deflector dish, I'm sorry Captain Foley. On the original ship it was defined as a sensor dish and a Communications dish, which is exactly what it looks like. And on TNG most of the time it was used as some kind of weapon or particulate being projector to seal up a time Rift or something, and people have just jumped on that deflector train and a writing an off of a cliff. It would Limit artists so much to have to include a dish in order to satisfy this so-called requirement, even though so many other cool designs don't have one and I will not accept someone saying that a weapons port or a docking port is one just to satisfy their own stubborn need an opinion that every single ship must have a navigational deflector dish. Of course these people never refer to the Runabout or any of the shuttles that travel at Warp. A deflector dish is not a real thing.
      So that's a weapons port on the front of this Klingon attack ship.

    • @Exaris79
      @Exaris79 6 лет назад

      Dale Stafford // It would at least be a photon torpedo launcher as the post Romulan tech exchange in TOS Season3 would also be a plasma torpedo launcher. Most likely if the ship was still being used post TOS, it will have the hybrid photon/plasma torpedo launcher on it depending on how expendable the ship is in its mass production and the cost of upgrading it. Also the ship looks like a corvette or armed/armored troop/vehicle cargo vessel or even a mine layer.

    • @Jack_Stafford
      @Jack_Stafford 6 лет назад

      Sovereign506 it is titled *Affliction* , season 4 episode 15, it's the first half of a story about the augmented Klingons, the second half is called *Divergence* and would be season 4 episode 16.
      It's a good two-parter that has some original Klingons from the original series and explains how they ended up with smooth foreheads using the original actors which was cool, and of course anything that involves doctor soongs various exploits is always interesting.

      @@Jack_Stafford Thanks I thought so. I got confused because Cockings says, Klingons would attack enterprise to get Phlox but he was taken from earth by a bunch of aliens conspiring with Sec 31.

    • @Jack_Stafford
      @Jack_Stafford 6 лет назад +2

      Well and then there was another episode actually titled the "augments" and that also was a two-part episode about the subject, so that's why I highlighted the names of the episodes.
      I decided to watch it myself and this ship shows up in the episode *Affliction* season 4 episode 16, at about 23:00 , just two brief scenes of It kind of dive-bombing the Enterprise.
      I was hoping so hard that it would show them *firing out of the green hole in the nose* because I am so against this idea that All Ships must have deflector dishes, despite Canon sources that show otherwise. But unfortunately they didn't shoot out of the nose so no more Canon evidence for my side! Lol deflector dishes on All Ships. But they were shooting from the wing tips where the guns are in the model shown here.
      And I would say the story was worth going back and watching a couple of episodes of enterprise! You question led me to my entertainment for the evening! Cheers!

      @@Jack_Stafford I've just rewatched the 2 episodes and saw the ship in action. But in the episode it is clearly smaller than the NX01. Those this mean the B'Rel is also smaller than earths first warp 5 ship? The D4 BOP used in the S2 finale seems to be much bigger.

      Dale Stafford I replied to your comment on the other video, copying and pasting what I said here,
      @Dale Stafford discord isn’t really a show idea, sorry should have been more specific. Discord is a voice platform over the internet like teamspeak or Skype the big difference with discord is that it’s primary feature is community building and it’s free. So a group like trekyards could make “trekyards discord” and make it so if someone was a fan or looking for a community inwhich to discuss trek/battlestar/bab5/or any other show or subject that the creators wanted to promote it discuss. Friends of mine and myself for example use discord to keep in touch, share tech news and when able host stellaris Star Trek games.
      Now if you wanted a show idea, I think it could be fun if you had two opposing sides (one playing devils advocate inorder to keep it friendly/fun) debate situations or scenarios in which could have happened in Star Trek or theoretical face offs between two ships that would come from different universes (battlestar vs Star Trek, stargate vs the expanse) etc where you could add in conditions where if it were trek vs bsg that the federations ship and possible secondary deflectors are down and warp drive unserviceable and would be forced into a fight with a cyclon basestar. Just something fun that people could discuss and joke around with, especially with all the crazy stuff going on in the world atm people need a good distraction.
      Just food for thought on both subjects and if trekyards needs help setting up discord hit me up with a pm.
